Re: Nintendo Has Quite A Bit Of Maintenance Planned For Today

@rjejr while I wouldn't rule out more storage at some point in the future, I don't think right now is the time for them to do it. It would've been pre-black Friday. Too close to Christmas now. If they have modified hardware it won't be announced until after Christmas, maybe February or so.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

The fact it shows a memory card leads me to believe it won't be digital only. The memory card appears to have some sort of installation data that contains two programs. One is stored on the HD, the other is stored in memory. Sounds like some sort of handshake verification process is used to ensure that you have the card inserted maybe? It wouldn't surprise me if we see a form factor similar to 3DS or Vita games for this system. I'm all for using a non-optical physical media. Flash memory is quicker and harder to physically damage. Things have come a long way since the old cartridge days. Optical media is struggling to keep up now.

Super Saiyan God is already a different thing. It's a temporary form that requires the power of six Saiyans channeled into one. Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan means harnessing the power of a Super Saiyan God without the support of other Saiyans, and going Super Saiyan while this power is harnessed. Hence, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.

Or, if you want an easier explanation, Super Saiyan God is red hair. Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is blue hair.

Re: Cyber Gadget's Retro Freak System Is Looking To Topple The RetroN 5 In The Downright Awesome Stakes

Looks like they are using the same mold as the Buffalo Classic USB Gamepad, which is pretty much the best clone SNES controller you can buy. I have one sitting on my desk right now. The two small buttons above select and start are a dead giveaway. If I didn't already have a Retron 5 I might be interested, as the USB controller support is intriguing to me. But still, too similar to what I have already.

Re: Weirdness: This Game Boy Macro Is Crafted From The Remains Of A Nintendo DS Lite

@Kirk I think Nintendo switched the layout in order to match their other systems better, but then used B/Y for confirm/cancel in a lot of games, especially earlier SNES games, because they had been developed on the original layout. I actually prefer the way it is now. It's never really bothered me. I just rock my thumb back and forth between B and A. It's comfortable enough for me.

Re: Retro-Bit Is Releasing A Super Mario Edition Of Its RetroDuo Console

@retro_player_22 That controller looks cool. I still have some old SNES pads kicking around and that's what I've been using though. I have a retron 5 now too so my duo is mostly retired, but it's still nice to have as a backup system. If the trio is only $10 more though that seems like a better option for sure.

I have a Retro Duo. The controller is pretty bad, but the system is nice enough and compatible with SNES controllers. It's really small so for years it was an easy way to cart NES/SNES games around to other places. For $60 it's not a bad system, much better than some other clones out there with good compatibility and durable enough to have lasted me for at least 5 years and running.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Franchises Should be Produced as TV Shows?

bngrybt

I know everyone likes to act like the Zelda cartoon was exceptionally horrible, but at the time it really wasn't bad. It was on TV at a time when Ninja Turtles were at their biggest. It's just the way cartoons of the late 80s were.

As far as characterization goes, this was Zelda as it was before Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past. Link and Zelda were blank slate characters and the writers of the show had to create personalities for them. Hence, they became personalities of their time.

I was a huge fan of the show as a kid and I never thought of it as being particularly horrible. It wasn't until the internet showed up and kids raised of OoT started watching it that it became retroactively "horrible".

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime and Co. Take On The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

bngrybt

People need to stop complaining about the Ice Bucket Challenge. It's a worthy cause. Sure, there are other diseases that are better known and affect for people, but don't blame ALS for that. It's a horrible disease that normally flies under the radar. They have been running a successful campaign and that is good for them. The money they have received will fund them for a great number of years, and that's a very good thing. Most people will donate to higher profile diseases like cancer multiple times in their lifetime. I'm willing to bet that this is the first, and probably last time that a lot of people will donate to ALS. In 6 months this challenge will be pretty much forgotten. Don't knock a good thing just to be a buzzkill. Enjoy the silly vids while they last, and be glad that the money is actually helping people who are suffering and their families.

Re: Talking Point: A History of the Sexualisation of Samus

@Therad the complaint was that there are no week known male characters in a Speedo with a bulging crotch. Zangeif was the first example that came to mind. Also, if idealized men in form fitting clothes are also designed to appeal to male sexuality, then what exactly would be something designed for females? I honestly want to know. I'm not a woman so I don't know what their ideal would be.
