Re: Feature: Please Understand: Unpacking Nintendo's Vision For Metroid Prime 4

atomicjuicer

Those mentioning Metroid prime sales compared to Mario and Zelda don’t understand the context.

Super Metroid was the first massive success of the series really and it was on the SNES - a hardcore console at the time with an appropriate audience.

GameCube didn’t sell well in that generation of consoles and NONE of the games on GameCube reached huge heights - that’s the platform’s fault not Metroid’s.

Metroid did well on GBA.

Wii hit the casual family lottery. Nintendo forgot entirely about the hardcore audience and focused on grandma/kid friendly content. If Metroid had been on a competitor platform during this or the following generation it’d have found an appropriate hardcore audience.

Wii U was a failure.

3ds released a Metroid game after the console had died due to switch.

Now Nintendo drops the ball again. I always presumed work for Metroid should have been going on during the Wii U era but we saw nothing.

The truth is they’ve wasted this franchise and don’t deserve it. Same as star fox.

Like valve and half life 3 Nintendo need to license their ip out when they don’t know how to exploit it. Microsoft would murder for the rights to give half life to its internal studios. That’s money on the table. That’s fans being neglected or dying of old age.

Samus returns is cool though.

Re: TriForce Announces The Yooka-Laylee Collector-Boxie

@electrolite77 I use a bunch of apps to track sales on psn. rime, doom, yooka laylee, snake pass, syberia, nba playground, butcher are cheaper than they should be and regularly featured in sales. These are some of the best 3rd party switch offerings and they are also decent for PS4 but unlike similar quality titles on ps4 these games in particular get slashed regularly.

Where's the game?
Where's Steep the game?
Serious opportunities lost due to delays.

You see the competitors intentionally targetting switch 3rd party discounts in every sale. Especially Playstation. They slash every 3rd party switch game down to nothing.

Nintendo need to accelerate 3rd party support.

Wish I'd known flashback was coming to switch. It's a great game but I've played it to death and bought on ps3 and Xbox 360...

Anyone who hasn't played it, ignore the reviews and be sure to customize the game before you play as the options menu is quite specific.

Can't say the other games here have me thrilled to be honest. I'm sure they're fine but not feeling it for switch. They seem either too boring or low quality.

C'mon Nintendo- get us more third parties and metroid too.

Re: Europe, You're Getting Three More New 3DS Cover Plates This Month

atomicjuicer

(To clarify my reason for a "limited" release:

Americans seem to believe that bigger is better (I've visited the US a few times and everything is HUGE!). Over here cars, buildings, seats, portion sizes, and people* are smaller. Now don't get me wrong, some things like IMAX theaters, roads, TVs and houses should be bigger but controllers, phones and handhelds deserve limits in my opinion.

Nintendo probably felt that the bigger handheld would sell better in the US and they probably used test groups (I even remember youtubers from the US saying they would be getting the bigger one). The cover decision was probably a tough one either way, but its unusual for Europe to get customization and personalization options not available to the US so this was a first and maybe an experiment by Nintendo just to see what would happen.

*I mean bigger in terms of height.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Franchises We Want to See at E3 - Metroid

The other M gameplay was great (environments, power ups etc.) but they lost the idea of being alone. Exploring by yourself without extra annoying characters.

Samus should be more like a sci-fi archaeologist with weapons and scanners to keep her safe. Or Lara croft / indiana jones in space sorta.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Franchises We Want to See at E3 - Star Fox

I hope Star Fox (or Star Wing!) goes back to its SNES roots. Majestic music, awe inspiring visuals, and dramatic scenarios.

I've no interest in waving my gamepad around and I don't care about the characters.

If they want to use the gamepad well they should let you give special orders to the team (like a list of targets on the right of the screen and a list of pilots on the left so you can match them up or something). Maybe let you transfer shield energy between ships or power bombs (kinda like a midair refueling).

Re: Poll: We Need to Talk About amiibo - Where Do You Stand?

atomicjuicer

I'm not interested in smash brothers which seemed to be one of the main games for amiibo and though the stock levels and price were fine where I live, the only character I was interested in (Samus) seemed too plasticky to me. I wouldn't mind having a Samus figure on my desk at work but I'd want something a bit more expensive looking with better materials.

I'm glad they don't hold important DLC though because I'm not a toy collector.

Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'

atomicjuicer

Somehow this news is exciting and dissapointing at the same time. I'm excited that a new nintendo console is defintitely coming but announcing it now worries me that it means there'll be no Metroid or Fzero for Wii u.

The mobile stuff is just a terrible idea full stop. Sony just closed PS mobile because it was an absolute failure and they actually make mobile phones so nintendo games on mobile is a bad idea.

Look at ridge racer or street fighter on mobile and tell me that something like Metroid would work. It won't and they'll waste millions.

Ugh

New dedicated gaming device sounds great though. I wonder if they'll go after VR again?
