Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that three new Cover Plate designs for New Nintendo 3DS consoles will be arriving on June 26th - including the famous Splatoon plates, which weren't expected until next month.
The Splatoon design is - as you might expect - covered in colourful ink splats. The other two designs are a little more reserved, but still very eye-catching.
Will you be investing in some of these? Let us know by posting a comment below.

As soon as that Splatoon plate is available for Pre order, I'm on it, the over 2, meh, not for me.
And.... we still don't have cover plates.
Hehehe, my N3DS will look gloriously blotted!
SPLATOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
Funny thing, I got my 3DS card holder from Club Nintendo and one of their cover inserts features pictures of various cover plates. I thought "Why are those there if I can't get them in the US?"
@ikki5 and again there is a petition for releasing new 3ds to us and stop region locking

Yay! Splatoon Cover Plates!
Obligatory post stating lack of regular sized N3DS for North America.
@DEAD Already signed it a while ago with the hope that it may be read... though unlikely but there is always a slim chance... or unless this is another one.
My poor salty American tears can barely see the glory that is the fabulousness that is a Splatoon Themed Black Standard New 3DS.......
I feel like I'm totally over these cover plates. Total waste of money. Unlike Amiibo of course ;p
I love cover plates I must get the splatoon one.
@ikki5 @bstoppel @Samuel-Flutter
Ditto to all those comments. Especially yours, bstoppel--it did indeed seem somewhat cruel to include those pictures on the 3DS game case in NA . . .
If they don't charge a premium for the Splatoon plates then I could be tempted...
I'm waiting for Cover Plate 042. Hoping it comes out before Senran Kagura 2.
Watch them disappear in mere seconds! TA-DAH!
Really though, the sense of entitlement in America these days never fails to astound me.. It's just a few pieces of plastic with pretty pictures on them, do you REALLY care that much? Sorry, America, you need to learn you can't have everything and move on with your lives. Most of the faceplates are dull and boring anyway, these three are no exception. I could just as easily have made some stencils, bought some New 3DS shells (or New 3DS XL shells, if I didn't have the normal model) and painted them myself. Probably cheaper too since the faceplates are £15 a piece.
SPLATOOOOOOOOOON !!!!
I like the Splatoon one kinda...too bad it's of no use over this way though.
@kamifox1 Yes, because being skipped out on the standard model(which actually has more issues than just faceplates!) for absolute bs reasons, unlike what...every other region(?), is being so entitled...sigh I guess it's easy to say that when you have it available though.
On a more serious note, the whole 'just get over it' mentality isn't exactly a magical bandage either way... :l
I can't help but be unbelievably ass mad over this living in north america, I hope ass isn't considered too far.
@kamifox1 "Really though, the sense of entitlement in America these days never fails to astound me.. It's just a few pieces of plastic with pretty pictures on them, do you REALLY care that much?"
About the pieces of plastic? No, I don't. And actually, like myself, the majority of people who are upset about the matter care more about the size of the system itself than about the cover plates. Many of us prefer having a smaller, lighter system as their portable.
As for the entitlement: Is it really entitlement to expect to get the same options that literally every other region got? Besides, it's not just about being the "left out" region. Thanks to the internet, we all saw the New 3DS and XL months in advance when Japan announced it. So that was three months during which those of us that wanted the standard model were looking forward to it--something that had nothing to do with which regions got what, since that hadn't even happened yet.
Anyway, keep some perspective. It's not like we're starting mass riots in the streets. We're merely expressing our disappointment over not getting something after months of looking forward to it and rightfully expecting that it would come, based on past situations.
@kamifox1 I know this is the internet and all, but please try to refrain from making sweeping generalizations about people due to their nationality. It is juvenile and unnecessary. Humans all act entitled from time to time has nothing to do with where you were born or live.
On topic: I feel like I would need a little wall with hooks to display all of the plates. Splatoon, Zelda, Xenoblade...FE! so many choices!
Meanwhile in America...
@kamifox1 And 3DS shells are AT LEAST $30. Then there's the paint. You are insanely stupid.
@ianolivia You can buy them for like £10 here, if that so no, I'm not incredibly stupid and you're replying to someone who clearly wasn't responding to anyone... I'm only responding now because you made such a ridiculous point that only showed your own ignorance.
@BinaryFragger Yes, because pieces of plastic with pretty pictures and one version of a device you could easily have never gotten full-stop is totally worth more than a whole bunch of decent games. That makes sense. Not that my "complaint" was technically even a complaint, it was simply a statement about my lack of understanding.
Also I'm sorry but said sweeping generalisation does happen to be mostly true. You don't see large quantities of people from any other region whining nearly as much as Americans do when they miss out on something as minor as, again, pieces of pretty plastic or one version of a device. Think of it this way, at least you got a New 3DS full-stop, it could've just as easily been like so many consoles that never left Japan at all.
It's not just this either, every time America's missed out on something, there's been large quantities of Americans whining yet when any other region has, there's been a few complaints and that's it, really. Mostly just queries and "meh"s.
Oh and for the record, you Americans get a LOT more gaming merchandise, events and stores than us Brits and Europeans not to mention the fact you almost always get everything before us so sorry if I appear to be a bit bitter and cynical towards Americas childish complaints when it comes to these things.
They should do a limited release of the regular new 3ds in America.
I have the wooden covers and they rock! (Very hard to acquire though even in Europe).
(To clarify my reason for a "limited" release:
Americans seem to believe that bigger is better (I've visited the US a few times and everything is HUGE!). Over here cars, buildings, seats, portion sizes, and people* are smaller. Now don't get me wrong, some things like IMAX theaters, roads, TVs and houses should be bigger but controllers, phones and handhelds deserve limits in my opinion.
Nintendo probably felt that the bigger handheld would sell better in the US and they probably used test groups (I even remember youtubers from the US saying they would be getting the bigger one). The cover decision was probably a tough one either way, but its unusual for Europe to get customization and personalization options not available to the US so this was a first and maybe an experiment by Nintendo just to see what would happen.
*I mean bigger in terms of height.
@ikki5 ok
glad someone notice my post with the petition link
