Re: Talking Point: Age Of Imprisonment Could Inspire Next Zelda Game, Say Devs, But What Does That Mean?

Yoshi3

@Cia Wind Waker nothing at stake? What about “the world you live in is a lie and it’s the result of an apocalyptic event where there were green lands instead of being on the verge of disappearing thanks to a great flood conjured by gods”?

Isnttrying to find new lands for people to live in and recover what was once lost, while trying to fulfill your destiny where the previous one failed” not stakes enough? Add to it that your family was kidnapped and there’s a murderous semi god trying to obtain a weapon of, let’s say, mass destruction while waking vessels of ancient warriors and royalty?

It’s more interesting tbh than BotWs “hey, you died and here’s this empty land now with the spirits of people you once knew…. Go out, kill something, touch grass, remember what happened, but in disorder, making no narrative sense at all”

TotK’s story was a spoilery narrative mess through and through. I’ll never understand why they would tie each segment of the story to a specific place, resulting in a mess of a story, instead of telling it how it’s supposed to be. 80% of the time you’re wondering what the hell is happening and spoiling yourself of things that haven’t even happened.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Amiibo Get The Spotlight In A New Switch 2 Trailer

Yoshi3

I think they still have time to tweak them. I remember some amiibos looked rough during their reveals but they upgraded them for final release.... at least on Nintendo's side. Just remember how Marth look in the first amiibo batch from Smash
So lets hope they can improve their faces because who doesn't want Resident Evil amiibo?

Re: Metroid Prime 4's "Combined Sales" Have Surpassed One Million, Nintendo Confirms

Yoshi3

@FullMetalWesker I wasn't chomping your head. I actually took it as a genuine, sincere question. My answer wasn't personal or anything, it was in a general sense.
What I don't agree with the open world philosophy is that, yeah, sure it works with NEW games and franchises.
But trying to transform something that has an established formula into open world is, for me, the most asinine form of creativity. They all just start to look and play the same.
I mean, I play Metroid for a different gameplay experience than Ghost of Tsushima for example. I played Zelda for a different gameplay experience than, lets say Horizons.
But when every game starts to transform into the same thing... then its the end of creativity.
Metroid is supposed to be a Metroidvania experience through and through, not something else I can find on other franchises.
Just like Resident Evil or Zelda, they are something unique (IMO not the latest Zeldas... I have any other open world game or Minecraft for that)

This is why MP4 didn't connect with the stablished fanbase. Metroid is meant to be the whole opposite of an open world game.... and I know Nintendo and Retro knew ... that's why they didn't have that much faith in the game to begin with (the development reset and the lack of marketing).

They admitted in a developer interview that they were just trend hunting because they started to cater to some fans on the internet that wanted an "Open world Metroid" after the succes of BotW.

Again, not trying to be rude with you man, just having a sincere discussion

Re: Super Bomberman Collection Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch 2

Yoshi3

@rvcolem1 ok, but I mean, its not that they are bogging down more powerful games because they want them on the Switch 1 too. The heavier games go exclusively to Switch 2.... also, the console doesn't even have a year yet. Usually the transition between consoles lasts for quite a few years.... just look at the PS4-PS5.
It takes a bit of time to build a user base big enough to commit just to a single console.

Re: Metroid Prime 4's "Combined Sales" Have Surpassed One Million, Nintendo Confirms

@FullMetalWesker Im curious as to why people think going “open world” is an evolution?
Open worlds by default let you go where you want to go, no restraints.
The Metroid formula has always been to be able to access new areas whenever you obtain new abilities, there is a progression design in place in maze like environments with interconnected areas. It’s the heart of the Metroidvania subgenre (and Zelda by extension)
If you disappear that just because you go trend hunting (open worlds), then it’s not the same genre anymore. And for a series that actually defined the genre (it’s in the name) … you just can’t destroy what makes Metroid Metroid.
Open world is NOT an evolution, it’s just a genre destroyer.
Why does everyone want every single game to go open world? There wouldn’t be any variety any more ….. and it’s starting to show.
Theres so much open world slop that is getting quite boring.
Metroid Prime 4 failed miserably (design-wise) and Capcom corrected ship too with Requiem (which I applaud) when they saw this open world trend hunting wouldnt work for the Resident Evil formula at all.

Re: Metroid Prime 4's "Combined Sales" Have Surpassed One Million, Nintendo Confirms

Yoshi3

@PtM He is right…. There were some articles stating that they couldn’t do their vision from scratch because they were handled a started project.
Hopefully Retro Studios learns from these mistakes and plan their own vision to get this series back on its feet.
@twilite9 hopefully Nintendo has few inputs on the next one. Most of its mistakes reek of Nintendo… specially the “open world” because “every fan was asking for an open world Metroid”
Who in their right mind would listen to those “fans” when THAT is the complete antithesis of what Metroid actually is?

Re: Zelda's Next Lego Set Might Have Been Leaked, Here's A Look

Yoshi3

Damn, why are the latest official licensed Legos so ugly? I can find better and more creative MOCs out there. The Deku tree was ugly as hell.

Having said that…. It’s tempting to have such an iconic moment from the second best Zelda game…. Next I hope they make a set of the best Zelda…. A Majora’s Mask one that’s prettier.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch 2's GameCube Library With Another Game

Yoshi3

@Serpenterror its not that. I'll speak for @Joeynator3000, but as an Advance Wars fan ... I do find quite simplistic the weakness triangle that FE uses. Its soooo basic that it grows quite dull sometimes.
In contrast, Advance Wars is like playing chess. Its waaay more strategic than FE.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

@Kingy good, then miss out. You’re the disconnected fan, not me.
If you’re judging the quality of a game by what they are NOT showing you in trailers… (see how ridiculous it sounds?) it’s on you, not on me. lol
As I said, you must be either new with RE or have not been paying enough attention the past 25 years with this franchise.

Nice reference though, I’ll give you that

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

@Kingy it’s personal opinions when you see it individually, but it’s a fact when you see it as a group. The same goes for any political voting. A vote is a personal opinion, but you can’t deny that a winner in percentages becomes a fact. The fact is that people see them as good games and you’re just in a 14% minority.

And we are not talking about sales here. There could be lots of sales for bad games, because you gotta BUY the game to play and NOT LIKE the game, adding to the sales numbers. Doesn’t go the other way around though. So no, sales are not indicative of quality. You know what is? User scores.

So you must be telling me that critics and audience are wrong except you, right? LMAO.

I’d take that as an argument when there’s a clear difference between critics and audience… but not this time.

And lol, I was a fan of this franchise since the PS1 game. You can argue old vs new all you want…. It doesn’t invalidate the fact that these modern games are good and metrics prove it.
Not sales, just good old fashioned public and expert’s numbers….. except you.

If you’re gonna argue against scores…(from critics and users) then I don’t really know what to say because proof is in your face. You’re a minority.
This franchise has been consistent except for 6 because they lost sight of their formula, and that’s a franchise sin.
That’s the only one you can make a case with….
One out of… what…. 16-20 mainline games?
lol

And to further prove my point, you gotta see the Metacritic score for 6, which is waaaay lower than anything, so audiences and critics do score the games respectively to their quality.
If 6 had 80-90 scores you’d have a point of a disconnected audience vs numbers… but, I’m sorry to say this, you’re the disconnected fan. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

@Kingy
Metacritic:
Critics-Users
RE7: 86%-87%
RE7 DLC 1: 75%-72%
RE7 DLC 2: 71%-70%
RE8: 84%-84%
RE8 DLC: 73%-66%
RE2R: 91%-88%
RE3R: 79%-67%
RE4R: 93%-89%
RE4R DLC: 88%-89%

They all look like pretty solid numbers to me.
I think you’re just on the other side of the spectrum from the Resident Evil fanbase.

Even if you make the average of those numbers you get a pretty good 82%-79% (And if I take out the DLCs, the numbers just go higher, further proving my point, 86%-83%)

So, not even close to being on a bad trajectory. It’s an IP with consistent output throughout its 9 “modern” main games I listed. Other franchises dream about that quality output with that many games and keeping its formula intact

So, with numbers behind I’m talking facts, not personal opinions.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

@Kingy then you wait until reviews come up and decide if you want it or not.
The rest of us who are already sold on it don’t want things spoiled in the trailers.
Trailers are for generating excitement, reviews to convince you.
RE has a fantastic trajectory as of late, if you think you’re only getting what they are showing you on the trailers, then you may be new to RE.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

Also, Capcom already said that they wouldn’t be implementing open worlds or open big areas because they know that was against what RE’s formula is. They started implementing that at the beginning and saw that it wouldn’t work, so they rebooted the project. They know what their formula is and don’t cater to open world trends and fads.
And I applaud that … unlike devs with Metroid Prime 4 and Zelda.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem's Latest Trailer Teases Bustling City Environment

Yoshi3

@Kingy not if they gauge good reactions and fan interest from what they have already shown. You’re the only person I’ve seen on the internet that hasn’t already been sold on the game. Social media has enough excitement with this game and previews and hands on that they know they don’t have to show anything more. That’s how trailers work.
