Square Enix's turn-based tactical epic Triangle Strategy is due out on Nintendo Switch this March. Ahead of its arrival, the game has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board in North America.
This title has received a 'T' for Teen rating and contains blood, fantasy violence, language, mild suggestive themes and use of alcohol. Here's the ESRB summary to go with it:
"This is a role-playing adventure game in which players follow the story of a nobleman whose kingdom is on the brink of war. As players progress through the narrative, they can interact with characters to gain allies, make dialogue choices, and engage in tactical turn-based combat. Presented from a 3/4-overhead perspective, players position characters on a grid-based area, using weapon strikes and magic to defeat enemy forces. Battles are accompanied by cries of pain, impact sounds, and screen-shaking effects. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence and blood: a character with a pool of blood underneath his body; a character killed by an arrow; a character executed off-screen. Some female characters are designed in outfits with moderate amounts of cleavage; the dialogue contains some suggestive innuendo (e.g., “You really must use your head more often. The one atop of your shoulders, that is"; “You seem like an honest man. I will thoroughly enjoy laying you down….hahaha.”). The game contains some references to wine, ale, and getting "tipsy" in dialogue; a drunk character is depicted slurring his speech, hiccupping, then passing out. The word “sh*te” is heard in the game."
Earlier this week, Square Enix released an image of the official game box art for Nintendo Switch. You can see it in full in our previous post.
The team behind Triangle Strategy, Octopath Traveler and the Bravely Default series have also teased multiple game announcements for 2022, so look forward to that.

I played just the beginning parts of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance in Japanese and it was still easy to tell that Mewt's dad was originally an alcoholic, something they censored out of the English version (they made him a workoholic instead). But then again it could also be because Nintendo published the localization, and especially then it wasn't something suitable for them. Guess they won't be hiding such characters in this one.
Just a few months more, and Triangle Strategy will be here. Awesome.
Oh no, not moderate amounts of cleavage!!
Only one short month away until we could March to battle and plan this Triangle Strategy. Nice that February only had 28 days.
I really love the look of the game but I didn't enjoy what I played of the demo. But then the same was true of Octopath Traveller but I bought it anyway and ended up really enjoying it. To a certain point anyway.
Isn’t that spoilers? Saying that someone will die via arrow? Lol
@JasmineDragon : Gratuitous amounts or BUST!
Playing this game day one. I absolutely loved loved loveeeed Octopath and Bravely. This game will consume me and feed my tactics hunger.
Simply can't wait!
"The word “sh*te” is heard in the game."
clutches pearls
Damn can't wait for a overheard joke about an actual head not the penis
"Battles are accompanied by cries of pain, impact sounds, and screen-shaking effects."
Background music also exceeds a certain threshold of intensity that may cause uneasiness and discomfort.
So these are the trigger warnings right? 🤓
I guess the under teens will have to stick with Pokémon.
Penis jokes like that were old 30 years ago. Guess I won’t hold out hope for much wit in this one. Hopefully the gameplay’s good.
Just about how I liked it to be. Insta-buy
This spring is absolutely insane for Switch RPGs.
This is my next purchase! I'm pumped!!!
Also does anyone else remember the dying screams in Final Fantasy Tactics? Those were blood curdling!
Is it too late to change the name? Anything else will do..
@Justaguest Yeah Strategy Triangle lol
@JasmineDragon the only one saying "oh no" is you, btw
@Spoony_Tech Stratangle Triagey
@Justaguest they could literally change the title to:
the story of a nobleman whose kingdom is on the brink of war
Oh good, we now have a release date for when the Random RPG Generator will be done generating this game.
Hard pass.
@Synecdoche Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as long as there are penises in this world, there will also be lame casual penis jokes.
Rated T for Terrible Title…
@MJF That was a joke, btw. I have zero problems with moderate cleavage.
"Triangle SaltIron Strategy" - fixed the name
@Silly_G uhuhuhuh bust...
I think it's time we all accept it... this is the game"s official title. Its soooo bad. Lol
@Gamer_Zeus Haha same here bro.
I'm curious to know if the ESRB has a cleavage scale or even a cleavometer to determine what constitutes a "moderate" amount of cleavage. Is there scientific consensus on this?
@JasmineDragon there's nothing wrong with them mentioning it either.
@Gitface That’s fine, just don’t tell the exact same one for literal decades
I don't understand all the hate for the title. It's simple, memorable, and actually describes the game in a way. Would people prefer a super long, convoluted title like so many Japanese games seem to have? (I do love those sometimes) No one seems to have a problem with silly things like Castlevania, Dragon Quest, Mega Man, etc.
@MJF Didn't say there was. It is literally their job to make note of these things. You're reading too much into a throwaway joke. If it really offends you I'll delete my comment.
@JasmineDragon it doesn't offend me - I just point out toxic things when I see them
I’m pumped for this game
@gloom Arrow to the knee?! Am I a decade to late with that joke? 😆
100% one of the bosses got an obsession with names based on geometry ever since (Project) Octopath Traveller was released, we can only pray they used more of their imagination in making of the actual game.
@Synecdoche the older jokes are the best though.
I'm looking forward to being challenged to a dool. Whatever that means...
IMHO, I feel this development team's games are really pretty, but are incredibly bland in terms of story. So no, I won't be rushing to play this one.
I really enjoyed this, my only beef is how bad the English voice acting is currently (and tends to be in these games).
I wish they went for a British voice cast instead of the typical corny California accent that completely kills off any type of medieval vibes in these type of games.
@Gwynbleidd
?? What do you mean? Their previous title octopath traveler doesn't reflect any of what you're referring to.
