Dying Light 2: Stay Human has been pushed back from its original February 4th release date to an unknown future date "within 6 months" of the initial intended release. All other platforms will get the game as planned on February 4th.
Although no real reason has been given, other than "[providing] fans with the gaming experience at the level they deserve," the major difference between the console versions and the Nintendo Switch version include the ability to play in handheld mode and the use of Cloud technology.
The game had already been delayed multiple times, first from Spring 2020 to December 2021, then from December 7th 2021 to February 4th 2022:
Back in November 2021, the lead game designer, Tymon Smektala, spoke to MP1ST, saying that there was "zero chance" of further delays:
The game is going to be released next year in February, and that’s what we’ve focused on, that’s what we’ve worked on. So absolutely zero chance of [more delays] happening.
This is far from the first time a game has been delayed on Switch, but released as usual across all other platforms. Life Is Strange: True Colors came out two months later on the Switch than other consoles, Fall Guys still has no confirmed release, and Genshin Impact — which was initially slated for a Switch release in 2020 — is still nowhere to be seen.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human is an action-RPG and the sequel to 2015's Dying Light, both of which are about slaying zombies, parkouring around the city, and staying away from the dangerous zombie variants that come out at night. Players can scavenge resources to craft weapons and tools to help him survive.
The Nintendo Switch release is, like Control and Hitman 3 before it, a "Cloud Version" of the game — meaning that it will be streamed from an external server to your console, rather than being natively installed. You can read more about the pros and cons of cloud gaming here.

still february 4th in japan....only cloud version
HOW IS IT GETTING DELAYED IT'S A DAMN CLOUD VERSION
Oh dear Tymon. Somewhat wolfing your words down like alphabetti spaghetti there.
I always wanted to know what the specs on the host were for streaming.
I loved Dying Light on Switch. I'll be honest, I am actually tempted to try this out as my first cloud game experience. Hopefully, we see these cloud based games natively released on the next hardware...but until then, yeah, hopefully this is a decent solution for releasing ambitious games for the humble Switch. We'll see. Still not 100% set on the idea lol.
Cyberpunk all over again... jk
You know the pandemic has taken its toll on the industry when cloud versions get delayed.
I was planning on getting this for my PC anyway, as I dont ever plan on buying a cloud game. I do think the port of the first one is pretty solid though, it's been fun to revisit it on the go
It’s a cloud version. How will it get delayed is my question
Meh, cloud version anyway
May as well not even be on the system
I feel like it is only a way to prevent people from buying it for switch over the other consoles. Everyone I know who has ps5/Xbox, play the same 3 games over and over. They don’t buy anything amd only play games over things like game pass now. At the same time, everyone I know who plays switch, has a stack of games and buys them faster then they can play them.
As for the cloud part, I am not happy with this future they are trying to force us into. However, my 4g phone can hotspot and stream games with my switch and I’ve had no real issue they few games I’ve played. I am going to try the kingdom hearts demo both at home and work. I will not be paying more $20 for those as cloud versions, just like hit man and control. I played them and felt like they were worth the time/money. not at full value. I can’t use my Xbox to play guardians of galaxy on my lunch break…but I can with switch.
Not really releasing on switch at all though...stupid cloud 🌨️
How can a cloud version be delayed 🤦♂️
Kate Bush must have been playing with her cloudbuster again.
Cloud again.... a very easy hard pass. I got plenty of these horror games Physical to keep my skin crawling for some time. Now I just need to lock those gates from hell.
New console announced in next 6 months. It’ll be a proper port to that, and not cloud version.
That’s my bet
Guess their data center can't handle it perhaps. How do you delay air though, it's just air.
I guess they pretty much knew almost nobody will buy something in cloud version, so they decide to not have any headaches with something that will not give them anything in return.
@kategray or could you name also be spelled kate grey? Horrible joke about how there are different spellings of gray. Anyways just dropping by since you gave me a good laugh with the “delaying light”. Is that a subtitle or what do you call those phrases after the title of the article?
Nope.
This does nothing to inspire confidence in the finished product.
If squeezing a game onto Switch takes this much effort, than there will surely be a lot lost in the transition.
I would advice people just get it on PC or PS5/Series X, if what's been said is true then last gen versions of rough.
Is there a big interest in cloud gaming on the switch? I’ve never heard about the numbers they get and was just curious.
@nessisonett What?
Why bother releasing on Switch if you can't even release the cloud version on time? I still hope the actual game is good.
And slightly off-topic since it was mentioned, how tf is Fall Guys STILL not on the Switch?
@Entrr_username From the article which apparently people don’t read anymore.

NO ONE LIKES CLOUD GAMES I THOUGHT THAT WAS FREAKING OBVIOUS!!!!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
How are any of the platforms done if the "Switch version" is just streaming from a PC remotely? Shouldn't it be on par with a PC release?
Honestly if Cloud versions were available universal and platform agnostic I’d probably be more interested in this. I don’t mind the concept, I just mind being locked into a console for Cloud versions. Look at Xbox as a way to do it right, you can play anywhere there’s a web browser.

@eaglebob345 well I have seen that Kingdom Hearts Trash Edition runs crap on Switch. That’s probably why they delayed the cloud version of dying light 2
Not getting this solely because of it being a cloud version. I know it's better than nothing as the game is probably too heavy to run on Switch natively, but for me personally I'd rather have nothing than being stuck with a cloud version.
If it ever comes to a Nintendo console without being cloud, I might dip.
@Entrr_username it got announced for Switch. But it got delayed to this year
"Cloud" games are dead to me. I don't fall for that scam and I refuse to reward bad behavior.
Maybe the Switch version getting delayed is because they're making it an actual physical, non-cloud version? A long shot, I know. But maybe? I can't think of any other way the delay would make any sense.
@sremick "Cloud" games are dead to me. I don't fall for that scam and I refuse to reward bad behavior.
They don't even do the work to produce quality product on cart that tells you they could give &^(^( about Switch. If they really wanted to show they could do it they make it Physical. AFAIK they have carts with the capacity already it's do and will they use them. Cost shouldn't matter if they really want people to buy the Physical games.
@anoyonmus That's fair. I still don't understand why they would make such a throwaway version of something as highly anticipated as Kingdom Hearts for the Switch. Next they'll complain of low sales and say that why KH wouldn't have been worth it for them.
Either way Dying Light 2 will be DoA with Switch Cloud just like the other Switch cloud releases prior and soon to be out like the KH release lol
Can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with the reception of the KH cloud demo.
@eaglebob345 that’s square Enix for you.
The same one who said that Tomb Raider 2013 didn’t sell well DESPITE SELLING OVER 10 MILLION COPIES
@Thaliard that’s what I am thinking too
@SwitchForce Dying Light 2 can't run natively on Switch though. This game is obviously targeting the next gen consoles like XSX/S and PS5. Can't run natively on Switch.
At least the first game is natively on Switch
@Aya-chan
I was thinking the same, well i was going to buy at launch but i was worried of my backlog, now i have more time to finish everything I have from crysis2and3 , long dark, flame in the flood, both metros games and of course the dlc the following from the first dying light
@aresius
I'm also playing through Metro 2033 on my Switch right now, it's really good! Me and the gf have both bought a copy of Dying Light 1 on the Switch. She played the crap out of the PS4 version and insisted I play it.
Hopefully they do natively port 2 to the Switch. I've seen in reviews that Techland have done a fantastic job of porting 1 so 2 can't be THAT unfeasible. I still stand by my stance that the Switch is more powerful than people think it is.
@anoyonmus Dying Light 2 can't run natively on Switch though. This game is obviously targeting the next gen consoles like XSX/S and PS5. Can't run natively on Switch.
Have they even tried to run it on Switch? No one has shown otherwise.
@SwitchForce it would run like crap on Switch.
Apex Legends is an example of trying to port a demanding game onto a underpowered handheld
@anoyonmus
None of us here are game devs making games for the Switch so no-one can say for sure about Dying Light 2 but the Switch has many top-heavy games that still run beautifully.
Heck, the Switch version of DOOM 2016 is still my favorite way to play that game and I played a bunch of it on PS4 first.
@Aya-chan apex legends? Remember that?
I Would rather have Dying Light 2 not be on Switch than a cloud version.
But if it’s too much for Switch, then better to leave it alone
@anoyonmus I knew it was coming to Switch. I meant how is it still not released. I don't want to sound like a know-it-all but it shouldn't be too much for the Switch to handle
@Clammy this comment didnt age very well .
@Adol-Bannings : How so? I said "New console announced in next 6 months."
And I still stand by that.
