The Pokémon Trading Card Game is getting an expansion that will be based solely on the global smartphone hit Pokémon GO. It's due for release this summer and will include cards based on elements from the game.
Pokémon GO director Michael Steranka had this to say:
We've been working with The Pokémon Company on this for a very long time. Can't wait to share more in the coming months!
All we have to look at so far is the packaging for the cards, which shows Professor Willow with a group of iconic 'mon.

I should Pokemon Go to the shop and buy some.
Would be cool if they did something to the game otherwise what’s the point in these?
@Outerdragon To get more money out of gamers? What else?
All of the cards should be made of translucent plastic so it looks like you see a Poke'mon in the wild right in front of you when you hold it up.
What if they’re not physical cards at all? This could be Pokémon NFT cards.
Scalpers ahoy!
Bit weird to do this 6 YEARS after Go came out but alright.
Set looks really cool as well from just the pack art. It seems like the art will actually be themed around Go, with Pokestops, Berries and real life-esque cities as well, really cool stuff. AND IS THAT A CONKELDURR V I SEE, OH MY GAWD.
Thought it was going to be a standalone game, not an expansion to another?
So they’re going to make the cards even more impossible to find in stores?
Am I the only one who read the headline thinking they were adding Pokemon TCG to Pokemon Go?
Let me guess the cards will have a AR feature that lets you auto spawn whatever pokemon on it. Basically pushing Go into pay to win territory.
@Williamfuchs420 you’d think if they were going to do that they would’ve already with the mainline games though
@Fizza There are still around 80-100 million active monthly players, so I don't think it's that weird. It kind of makes sense since the TCG wasn't culturally relevant at all until like the past 2 years, and a deal like this probably took a while to put together and get into the production pipeline.
@Wilforce I was thinking exactly the same thing
Headline was the wrong way around. Sounded like it was the TCG in Pokemon Go, not Pokemon Go being featured in the TCG. It would be kind of cool if they had some sort of AR feature that linked to the app and let you see the Pokemon battle each other.
You know, some kind of AR functionality on Pokemon cards would be cool. But I think not that many phones support this, which is why AR Lego sets failed.
Finally all of those bootleg Pokemon cards that slap the Pokemon Go logo on them will make some kind of sense.
they really should port Pokemon TCG Online to Switch heck they love money so much they could even make amiibo type Pokemon cards that work with the Switch version of Pokemon TCG Online
Your headline is backwards
