Taito's Bubble Bobble series is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary and as part of this, the Japanese company has announced a new entry in the spin-off series Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move) is currently in development.
Puzzle Bobble game director Tsuyoshi Tozaki said the new entry would "of course include its trademark simple gameplay so anyone can play it". The team is also taking notes from Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, where you can have fun with friends and family - so it's packing "all those ideas" from that game into this new one.
Level designer Hidetaka Iyomasa also mentioned how there would be time attack, and reiterated how fans would be able to play with others or solo. And there will even be some new characters in this upcoming release.
As for the launch date, it's "only just started with development" - "so it's still a way off, but the whole team is hard at work and is determined to make it a fun game". Keep in mind, no platforms have been confirmed just yet, either.

That's pretty cool but I love Touhou Spell Bubble and not sure that I'd ever choose to play this over that.

I'm playing Puzzle Bobble Vacation Odyssey on PS4 right now. Highly recommend it for fans of this series.

haha, YES!! my mum still has nightmares over the soundtrack to the N64 version that I played non-stop back in the 90's
I picked up both the neogeo versions available on arcade archives, will 100% be getting this!
I love the puzzle game genre and historically this has been one of my favourite puzzle video game series. There was one DS iteration of PB that stood out in particular. This is good news and would suit the Switch

Awesome, I love the Puzzle Bobble games, and hope the new one is solid! It's been somewhat long since the last game, and since many of them were handheld there was less emphasis on horizontal stage layouts.
Not counting Touhou Spell Bubble (which briefly featured in the YouTube video), the last such Puzzle Bobble game was Universe on the 3DS. It was a somewhat underwhelming title that couldn't follow Puzzle Bobble Galaxy on the DS.

Please don't add the usual annoying audio (voices) these games always have..
They've still never beaten the second game for me. Later entries added too much stuff and got a bit gimmicky. Also it looks horrid.
I never picked up the old one because $40 seemed steep. I should if the remake of bubble bobble is on sale.

I hate that BB arcade (super barebones with no online leader/scanlines/etc.) is still exclusive to the kinda horrid BB4F (and Baron is back expansion/rerelease) game… there’s also an Arcade Archives version that has been exclusive to the PS4 since… 2016 I think.
I’d easily pay $50 to get an M2 done collection with BB/SBB/NES Bubble Bobble 2/Rainbow Island/Parasol Stars/Bubble Symphony.
og Sega/Westone/Escape ‘s arcade Wonder Boy is even worse, the ACA release is exclusive to JPN PS4, and instead we got the awful Wonder Boy Returns/Remix+.
These two have been on my Most Wanted wishlist for almost 6 years, lol
Anyway, everyone go get Hamster/TAITO ACA LIQUID KIDS! It’s delightful and a good way to show there’s an audience for this releases!
On Switch they’ll probably charge a hefty amount, or at least more than I’m up for paying for a quick puzzle fix
YES! Day 1 for me, I've enjoyed re-playing 1 and 2 on Switch already and coop looks fun

Agreed, but what’s all this Puzzle Bobble chatter about?! Did they change the name of the franchise locally (I’m NA)? I haven’t owned a Bust-a-Move title since 4 on the ‘Cast, so it’s been a couple...decades. Either way: great news!

Yesssss how did I miss this?! I’ve been wanting a new Bust-A-Move / Puzzle Bobble game! Hopefully this entry is expansive, comprehensive and comes to Switch at the right price!
