Well, it was bound to happen - after Pokémon Legends: Arceus was leaked, datamined and streamed last week, a handful of Pokémon-themed accounts on social media have now spent enough time playing the new entry to complete the entire game.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have apparently been going after these accounts and suspending them. While we can't obviously share anything about the game just yet, here's some of the dialogue from one of the accounts that have already finished Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Some of the more daring ones are even running "Q&As".
"We finished PLA...we beelined to get to the end credits."
According to some information over on Twitter, Nintendo and TPC has been targeting individuals who published screenshots and video footage. Unfortunately, it's not the first time we've seen something like this happen with the Pokémon game series.
You can get a full rundown on the events so far in our previous stories. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be officially released on the Nintendo Switch later this week on 28th January. If we hear any updates, we'll let you know.

Honestly, Nintendo should target themselves.
So we really need 4 different articles about how a single game has been leaked to the public?
@BloodNinja That was pretty savage actually. I don't even feel like commenting anymore because I can't beat that.
Just wonder, how was the ending like?
I'm okay if I got some spoilers as long in word texts, not by actual screenshots.
@NinjaGuy69 I shall take a bow to hopefully dodge the incoming tomatoes lol
I don't get why an article is needed for this. Of course some people already beat it. There's people who play full games in one single sitting, refusing to do anything else until they finish it.
When's the review embargo lifted? I only want to read about Nintendo Life staff finishing the game and providing their thoughts on it.
@abbyhitter No info is known about if Reviewers got Review copies, or when reviews will even occur.
Because that's hard? 🤷
@westman98 lol I thought it was just me having deja vu.
Hey, kudos to anyone that has the guts to admit that they finished the game before it releases: if nothing else, you must be really brave to face Nintendo, GameFreak, and the Pokémon Company’s trained group of assassins dead in the eyes.
For once, I'm actually rooting for the Nintendo Ninjas. I really don't want this game (or Kirby ATFL or Zelda BOTW 2) to be spoiled for me.
@westman98 don't worry, I'm sure they'll be able to write at least one more!
I just can't wait to read some reviews, and see if all the hype around this game was worthwhile.
Not that I'll be picking the game up regardless, but it'll be nice to read about the game itself and not the fact that it was leaked.
@JakedaArbok Don't think you can be sued for playing a game that was released early.
Thanks for the reminder to pick up the ROM. I have enough time now being in quarantaine with COVID anyway.
@VoidofLight I’m pretty sure reviewers are working on it, but I imagine they can’t share anything until a specific date. Last week on IGN’s Nintendo podcast, NVC, one of the crew mentioned they were working on something that was taking up all of their time and coming out very soon. They alluded to this a few times and specifically around PLA discussions. Platforms like nintendolife and IGN are probably also told to keep it hush hush on the fact that they’re even reviewing this title since it seems like Nintendo has resisted sharing too much about the game to begin with.
and was it good???
@HedgehogEngine Don't give them ideas
@sisodinr I mean, I'd imagine there'll be reviews eventually, but with the IGN thing, that could also be another game that's releasing very soon. Dying Light 2.
@BloodNinja You dodged, some, but can you dodge a tomato with LEGS?!
It's a good thing I started Monster Hunter Stories after finishing Tri, probably won't get to Pokemon Arceus, until mid term this year as I still need to play and beat Rise, World, Revelations, and Stories 2.
Open world games should not be so concerned with spoilers, as there should be a bountiful amount of content to remain undiscovered like breath of the wild
@dBackLash calm down edgelord
@Thoughts They're just taking down footage, not suing anyone.
@MegaVel91 EGADS MY ONE WEAKNESS NOOOOOO
They really should be trying to trace who gave them the game early more than anything. They're legally not supposed to have the game right now unless you're a reviewer under NDA, so someone somewhere broke the law by giving them the game.
@westman98
Money they reran one about that fps Pokémon game twice within the week.
@BTB20
Whenever a video is taken down by Nintendo people act like they are trying to ruin the posters life.
If they bought it than okay. Like it or not they can post all the spoilers they want.
@dBackLash Or you could you know, pay for the game and not steal it.
why is anyone still surprised by this?
its not going to stop unless pokemon loses popularity
@Zeldawakening Eh, the game isn't open world, but yeah spoilers aren't great either.
Do we really need another article advertising that people can illegally download the game days early?
Especially one so pointless based soley on the fact a thief tweeted they beat the game they stole.
You're just empowering pirates and giving rom sites free advertising, maybe you should also get them to pay you to post a link.
I expect better from this site.
I'm so tired of this happening with every Switch release.
Im pretty sure this game, like many other ones, is not intended to be completed or beat but instead to be lived in.
@falkyn Eh, there's a clear end to it. It's just that it's not supposed to be done so quickly, since the devs seem to intend on you taking your time to explore each area.
@Thoughts Nintendo has every right to enforce their copyrights. There are technically no laws protecting streamers because the individual right holders have the final say on how their creations are portrayed. Nintendo publishes their creator guidelines and actively enforces them. The specific violation is “You are only permitted to use Nintendo Game Content that has been officially released” - so until 1/28 content creation is strictly off limits per Nintendo’s content guidelines. What Nintendo technically couldn’t do in this case is censor a content creator who “leaks” the Pokédex by reading the entire PLA Pokédex with no gameplay or images - though I suspect that Nintendo might try to copyright claim that anyways.
Talking about this all the time will encourage it - it's not interesting at all
"We finished PLA...we beelined to get to the end credits."
God forbid that people just play games to have fun anymore
Well, no biggie really. Some people are just impatient. I hope they enjoyed the game and had fun, so long as they don't spoil it for others.
It's very easy to avoid spoilers, I searched the game on YouTube and found lots of gameplay uploads, don't have to click on them and watch them though.
As for release dates you will always get things shipped or sold early. the pure logistics of getting games to retailers on the day of release is simply not feasible, I used to order from an online company who always got the game to me a few days early, bit not bothered either way.
Ah nintendo is once again:
"mopping with the tap open"
Maybe they should put their energy in creating games instead of blaming people they play games that got leaked because of their own fault. Nintendo would do anything to steal as much money from customers as they can. For example, by releasing a zelda game a few months beforer they launch a new console with the same zelda game on it, with only a little bit more performance. Not even mentioning pokemon go and animal crossing / pikmin, lootbox tactics.
@defrb
"For example, by releasing a zelda game a few months beforer they launch a new console with the same zelda game on it, with only a little bit more performance."
I'm curious to hear, when that happened. 🤔
@HeeHo what? It’s news. There’s a duty to report it - this is a video games news site. Your comments are like going on to Sky News and blasting them for reporting on anything negative. I, personally, am interested in the leaks and what’s been going on, and people finishing the game. This is the nature of video games news, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies.
@MichaelP
Ok, they released it on the same day on both, it was a bad example. I should have mentioned all the wiiu re_releases.
Mario kart 8 is also a better example.
@defrb
Yes, you're right. Mario Kart 8 for Switch and all other WiiU re-releases were definitely released a few month after their original releases. 😂🤣
@HeeHo I'm not gonna buy the game, whether I can play it illegally or not. I spend way to much on mediocre Pokémon games already and I always end up regretting it.
@MichaelP That never happened.
@defrb Do you think their legal enforcers are the same people who develop their games? Because only in that scenario would your statement make any sense. Their lawyers shouldn't invest their energy in protecting their IP but in game development. Thank you, makes total sense.
And in what world is releasing ports money stealing.
@BTB20
Don't tell that to me. 😉
@westman98 Apparently. It's confusing.
@defrb
"For example, by releasing a zelda game a few months beforer they launch a new console with the same zelda game on it, with only a little bit more performance."
A Q & A?! Oh for gods sake.
I am not buying an old game
SpeedRunner have no sense of GamePlay if they are only using Acreus to get to the end. You missed the whole point of the game itself doing this. Pokémon games are made to invest your time growing and adventuring your Pokémon. That's why I bought all Pokémon games from DS/3DS to Switch. It's for the FUN/Challenge of the game.
@Orochilocka It was news when it leaked, its not news that someone that pirated it tweeted about finishing it.
@HeeHo ah yes, spoken like someone who knows nothing about news, or the industry. This is news, a follow up to an article that likely had tens of thousands of clicks, showing people are interested. Please don’t talk about things you know little about - that’s peak internet.
Probably played it none stop thinking they had the holy grail lol.
@Orochilocka I'm sorry, you clearly are a genius on media beyond my knowledge.
@HeeHo yep, you guessed it - editor of major news sites for around two decades now. You’re not the first random person on the internet who doesn’t know the trade, or understand what qualifies for news - and certainly won’t be the last. But don’t claim you understand what is and isn’t news the same way I wouldn’t claim to a carpenter what is and isn’t decent woodwork. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
@Orochilocka Ahh I see.
Also I play for Manchester United.
@HeeHo course you do. Just another internet noise-maker with nothing valuable to contribute.
