As is traditional for this time of year, Japanese publication Famitsu has been asking prominent developers what their plans and ambitions are for 2022, and one of the people interviewed is Capcom’ s Ryozo Tsujimoto – the man in charge of the company's prestigious Monster Hunter franchise.
Tsujimoto Is clearly focused on delivering Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the next DLC offering for the most recent entry in the series, but he adds that there's a big anniversary coming up soon, and that he will have to devote some of next year to prepare for it:
In 2022, I’d first like to deliver Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, which is scheduled for summer, to everyone in solid shape. And the Monster Hunter series will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024, so I should start making preparations for various things soon.
Monster Hunter began life on the PlayStation 2 before spreading its wings to other systems, including the Wii, Wii U, 3DS and – of course – Switch.

It's amazing that a series with seemingly such a generic premise can be one of the most highly detailed, intense gaming experiences possible. I haven't played one of the games myself (never really cared for the MHRise Demo personally) but I respect the hell out of the series and am happy for the people waiting patiently for Sunbreak.
Makes sense, people don't seem to actually realise enough games take years to make so if you want to release something on an anniversary it needs to be planned ages beforehand.
Feels like a mainline MH game for PC/PS5/Series X|S releases in 2024.
I love this games so much, One of the best things to happen to me.
@Fizza That's how you make good video games. You take a basic idea (what you called a "generic premise") and build upon it, while polishing all the elements. Many fail at executing that, because they try to add too much without properly fleshing out the core.
@Grumblevolcano
In the 2020 Capcom data hack, Monster Hunter World 2 was leaked for a 2023 launch on PS5/XBS/PC.
It seems like the game may have been pushed back to 2024 now.
Would be cool if "EVERYONE IS THERE"
@westman98 If I had to believe all the data hacks and leaks I see online, then I wouldn't have any energy (and time) left for gaming.
They surely have a new game in the works, but I doubt it is called World 2, it's probably it's own thing and they called it like that internally, if at all.
Anyhow people should finally start to take all the leaks and data hacks with a huge mountain of salt, just wait it off and when the time is ripe we will know if something releases or not, too many people out there believe these information too often and compain afterwards "something did not happen because a trustworthy hack said it would"
It's like the whole Switch Pro "leak" which claims every year we will get a new model, sure some day we will but nobody knows when and what it exactly wiil be.
Same with games.
i tried monster hunter multiple times (bought it on 3ds) and tried the rise demo, but playing this game I just wonder what is going on and seeing weapons hitting 1... does not feels great.
It would be awesome if they do something like GU, where it gave homage to previous MH game
@Westman98 Technically it was leaked as Monster Hunter 6 with no titles or consoles attached. The leak was suspicious because we already have MH6 with Rise, which would imply either World or Rise isn’t a mainline entry unless both are considered to 5 internally and by 6 they mean the 6th generation.
Just give me Sunbreak. Don't care much about Anniversary stuff. And that's a ways off anyways.
Maybe we could get ports of previous MH games or maybe not but idk for sure
If the anniversary is going to be a game my guess it will be a game similar to how MHGU was. That game was a celebration of all the generation of MH games before World. A 'greatest hits' plus new stuff sprinkled throughout. Makes sense to me to make a game similar like that but with Rise/Sunbreak, World/Iceborne, a new game if there is one before 2024, and maybe even some Stories/Stories 2 content mix in. Sprinkle in some new stuff like they did with MHGU and wala there you have it a new game!
Capcom gave us fortnite skins for resident evils 25th anniversary they should do the same for this
I imagine they will use the 2024 anniversary to reveal MHW2
@anoyonmus Older ports have inferior mechanics at this point. I doubt Capcom will ever port those
@Bizzyb or maybe the first MH Stories for Switch
I'm ready for a PS5 entry .
Monster Hunter Rise is one the best games for Switch. Can't wait for the Sunbreak DLC. : P
@Fizza I am really excited for the expansion!
@Ganner My guess is they will unveil MHW:2 in the not too distant future.
I love this series! One really has to wonder what they have in store for the anniversary...
@Gwynbleidd I've tried twice before to get into the series. I got MH Tri for the Wii and hated it. I tried again with 4 Ultimate on 3DS and got a bit further into it but it didn't stick.
I saw the glowing reviews for Rise and decided to give it one last shot and it finally clicked.
I've played Rise to death and I'm currently polishing off Word/Iceborne.
Stick with it, it's become my favourite game series ever, hopefully Rise will click with you too!
I hope they support Rise as much as they did World.
if the anniversary involves a remaster of a previous game, they’ll need to severely overhaul em so it’s up to the newest game’s standards
I've been enjoying the MH franchise for a long time now. A minute to learn, a lifetime to master.
Hope its more like MHGU or Rise than world. World was bad tbh. Its when the games got too easy, then rise co tinued it. Hopefully sunbreak adds more challenge. World though. It was only popular and loved cause it was on everything and had high graphics. I hope they stick to portable and handheld but also release on everything so everyone can enjoy it. But its annoying how ppl here dont consider rise a mainline cause its portable. Acting like mhw was the only mainline. Rise is not a spinoff. Stories was
The handhelds plus world are the main lines.
But ill be happy with whatever we get. I bought rise twice to enjoy on both platforms x)
