Re: SurveyMonkey Intelligence Breaks Down the Declining Usage of Miitomo

WiiHawk

Questions repeat too much or are just stupid, really. Not nearly as engaging as the Everyone Votes Wii app (or whatever it was called), which at least provided some fun as we guessed how the masses would vote. That, and I'll just never understand the fun of dressing up video game characters in different outfits. Considering the majority of the "fashions" are for girls, I guess I'm not the target demographic. The coins and discounts just aren't worth it.

Re: Study Suggests Rising Smartphone Ownership Among Kids Is Hitting Nintendo Hard

WiiHawk

My two oldest kids each have a 3DS. They have the games they want. And they never play them. When every other kid on the bus and at school has access to Roblox and whatever clan is clashing this month, that's what they want to play. Can't be helped.

And people need to get beyond this whole "no hardcore games" on mobile devices argument. You're clinging to an anchor on a sinking ship. Yes, the ads and IAPs of freemium games are annoying, but honestly, I've been playing Phantom of the Kill for the past week on my iPhone, and I found the IAPs are MUCH less annoying than all the crap that was dumped into Fire Emblem Fates, to which it's often (and justifiably) compared.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

WiiHawk

Trade shows are dying, and eventually—hopefully soon—E3 will die with them. There's nothing worse for publishers/developers than having to force announcements and show off products at a time when those products aren't ready to be shown off just so they can meet a schedule controlled by media groups. And I say this having been to the last four E3s. They're fun, but largely useless.

Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game

WiiHawk

E3...2017...none of that is nearly as important as the launch titles. Wii U got bad press because of the lack of quality launch titles, so no one bought it, so no one made games for it, so no one bought it. Put Zelda there on day one, new Mario, maybe even a new Metroid, Pikmin and (God willing) Fire Emblem, and now you're moving consoles, so more developers will find the unit attractive. I'm happy to wait (and it doesn't hurt that my and my son's birthdays are in March).

Re: Western Localisation Of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Features Costume And Age Changes

WiiHawk

What @vincentgoodwin said. I know that, pushing 50, I'm no longer the target demographic for games like this (or any type), but sweet Jesus, I'd sure be happy if the RPGs I played involved actual adults instead of teenagers, cleavage or not. You want fewer content edits (and again, this is editing, not censorship...if you can still play the game, it hasn't been censored), start demanding characters whose fontanelles have hardened.

Re: 10 Years On, Hideki Kamiya Still Doesn't Think He Could Better Okami

WiiHawk

I found some of the motion controls in combat too frustrating and never finished it. Get the high def version on the Wii U with Gamepad support and it would be a no brainer to buy it again / try it again. This and Trauma Team were two the updates and/or sequels I most expected to see when the Gamepad was unveiled, and neither came to fruition.

Re: Review: Alphadia (3DS eShop)

WiiHawk

KEMCO games are quite entertaining on mobile devices. I've played and reviewed numerous titles for iOS, and feel they've got the UI down and know how to work within the limitations. But there's just too much competition from A-level JRPGs for 3DS where gamers justifiably expect more than a mobile port will give them.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

WiiHawk

Hopefully the new features compensate of the lack of words. Just please, for the love of God, don't turn all your content into videos like IGN is doing (and is why I abandoned them and started coming here). It's easier to mask how annoying gaming journalists tend to be when you don't have to actually hear them talk.

Re: Bravely Second "Tomahawk" Costume Change Confirmed For The West

WiiHawk

Just curious...since they're giving the cowboy a stereotypical southern drawl, did the "Tomahawk" job come with a stereotypical Native American accent? Because that could've been issue. Either way, the Japanese (and many nations outside the U.S. ... this was especially apparent if you took the Capretz French classes in high school) view Native Americans as cartoon characters, because that's the way we've historically portrayed them. Same with cowboys, really. The difference is that cowboy is a job, Native Americans are a people and a culture.

Re: Hands On: Crossing Over With Project X Zone 2

WiiHawk

@Operationgamer17 Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem will keep me well occupied for a couple months, then Bravely Second drops in April. My 3DS time is accounted for well into summer...although Project X Zone 2 may serve as a nice break from those games when the grinding gets tedious.

Re: Hands On: Crossing Over With Project X Zone 2

WiiHawk

Played the first when it came out, but didn't finish it. Got too repetitive, so I just found a video of the ending on YouTube. However, I played enough to get my money's worth, and I enjoyed the demo for 2 last night, so I'll give it a go down the road if there's a lull in 3DS releases.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Voice Actress Is In Favour Of Lin's Western Costume Change

WiiHawk

The bust slider was removed, one would assume, so NoA wouldn't have to deal with the outcry. People who are offended are quite loud about it, and it's easier to deal with butt-hurt gamers on forums than 1 Million Moms on FOX. What cracks me up, though, is Lin's costume change. You can dress every other woman in the game in the skimpy outfits, but not Lin, because she's 13. You know a better way to handle it? Quit putting 13-year-old characters in your games! Lin's fun and all, but totally unbelievable within the scope of the story.

Re: Review: Trauma Team (Wii U eShop / Wii)

WiiHawk

Played through this on the Wii when it was first released, and just went through it again earlier this year with my kids. We all loved it, and I always though it was a shame they never released a Wii U entry, since it seems a perfect match (the Wii Remote was never as precise as the DS stylus). Hopefully this release catches on and convinces Atlus to give another, but I doubt we'll see that happen.

Re: Feature: There and Back Again - A Xenoblade Tale

WiiHawk

I sank 118 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles, and thought that was ridiculous, but I did the exact same thing on the New 3DS version. I still think the ridiculous number of side quests for rare drops too often ground the fantastic store to a halt (but I had to find and complete them all...until the very end), but I would like do it all again if they ever release an HD version. I don't see how Xenoblade Chronicles X could be as good--story and characters seem too pedestrian to me--but I'm looking forward to being proven wrong.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)

WiiHawk

This is one of those rare instances where I'm happy there's not a lot of content coming to the Wii U. I'll have until Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem (or whatever they're calling it now) is released in the States to finish Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Re: Review: Stella Glow (3DS)

WiiHawk

@Gridatttack That's exactly what I've done. Played a bit of Stella Glow, but have now worked my way up to Chapter 27 of LA 2. You're right...the second half is much better.

Re: Review: Stella Glow (3DS)

WiiHawk

Finishing the demo prompted me to bust out Luminous Arc 2, which I never finished. Halfway through that now, so it looks like I'll have to put it on hold again when I pick up Stella Glow on Tuesday.
