Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

TromaDogg

It's the greedy price tag that bothers me. I collect these things, so have to buy one before they all disappear and end up with scalpers. £25 though, or £30 from most places if you factor delivery/shipping in. The game's due out in just a few weeks, I had it preordered. Now that Nintendo's randomly announced this thing out of the blue costing almost as much as the game and giving me hardly any time to budget for it, I probably can't afford to buy Skyward Sword HD now until later on. I love Zelda. I love amiibos. But given the rubbish and almost completely unnecessary 'feature' this enables, and the hefty price tag, it does feel very much like a last minute cash grab.

Re: Review: Mugsters (Switch eShop)

TromaDogg

To go one further, 'All your base...' only actually features in the (badly translated) intro for the European Mega Drive version of Zero Wing as well...the arcade version doesn't have an intro, and the PC Engine version's intro is completely different with anime style characters talking in Japanese with no subs.

Toxic masculinity that needs stamping out. Everybody knows that being exposed to this sort of shenanigans for around 30 seconds is all it takes for it to become 'acceptable' behaviour in the mainstream again, and for us all to suddenly regress back to the days when Benny Hill and Bernard Manning were on weekly prime time comedy shows. Oh, the horror.

Re: Buying BioShock, Borderlands Or XCOM Physically? Expect Huge Download Requirements

TromaDogg

This isn't ideal at all, but I still prefer going physical, even with mandatory downloads. Why? Because so far, 1tb micro SD cards have still been prohibitively expensive, and at least if some of the data is on the cart, you're still saving a few GB of space as opposed to having to download all of it to your SD card. So far, I've been able to survive on one 400gb SD card and buying physical whenever possible. Yeah, some of my games have got mandatory downloads (ie. Mortal Kombat 11, Spyro, etc.) but if I were to buy all of my games digital and had to download all of the data for my games, I'd likely have had to have bought at least one or 2 more SD cards by now (or one of the hella-expensive 1tb ones) so buying physically is still the cheaper option long term.

Re: Review: Contra: Rogue Corps - An Ugly And Unfocused Mess That Shames The Contra Name

TromaDogg

@Dakotastomp I've bought Gun Gun Pixies, put 10 hours into it....and I can confirm it's as rubbish as PJ says it is. Granted I think his review was a little harsh towards fans of that kind of thing but it just isn't that great to play...looks bad, camera is awful, framerate issues, some horrendous glitches, very clunky controls and noticeable lag when jumping...I'm sticking with it because I find the cultural stuff and storyline hilarious but there are much, much better fanservice-y games out there. The likes of Senran Kagura Peach Ball is a very solid and playable pinball game underneath the presentation at least.

Re: Contra: Rogue Corps Producer On Resurrecting The Franchise And Returning To 2D In The Future

TromaDogg

I don't hate it, and I like some of the nods and winks to classic Contra games. That being said, for the most part it's Contra in name only, has an ugly visual style, the weapon mechanics (overheating, and having to repeatedly grind stages to level them up) are awful and the character designs just plain bizarre (although I won't deny playing as the panda is fun). All in all, a huge misstep for the series, and it'd be a shame if Konami used this as an indicator of whether people want more new Contra games or not....very unlikely this game will sell well at all, it's just not very good

Re: The Game Sony Tried To Silence Is Getting An Uncensored Release On Switch Next Month

TromaDogg

Not sure why people care about this at all? If most people (as I'm sure they do) take the sensible stance that video game violence doesn't cause real life violence, then a bit of videogame sexism and cute anime characters don't cause real life misogyny or peadophilia either. I find people's hypocrisy astonishing. You might find these things distasteful in a game but so what? Just don't play them. The same as I find the constant shooting of people dull in Call Of Duty and don't play them. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Playtonic Devs Recall The Trials And Errors Of Making Yooka-Laylee

TromaDogg

I enjoyed it. I think a big issue is that either consciously or subconsciously, people were judging it a bit too much by modern standards rather than as being the love letter to the N64 era it was intended to be. Some of the collectibles were annoying to get but you're not meant to get them all first time...come back later with more learned abilities (especially one you get just before the final area) and you'll find them pretty much all a doddle to get to. The camera never gave me any issues at all but I still fire up my old N64 to this day. I do agree with criticisms that the stages were a bit too big and had a little too much busywork in them though...as much as I still love Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 haven't aged quite as well. Less is sometimes more.

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th May (Europe)

TromaDogg

I was going to buy Warlock's Tower....aaaaand it's gone. Looks like it's been pulled from the EU E-Shop already for some reason. Will have to buy it on Vita instead Starting to get a bit sick of this, seen a few games disappear now for no reason that are still on the US E-Shop.

Re: Ubisoft Will Not Release Any Additional Starlink Toys For Future Updates

TromaDogg

Quite a bit of misunderstanding and misinformation here. To clarify...if you buy the Switch physical Starter pack, it comes with Fox, Mason, the Arwing and the Freeze Missiles and Flamethrower weapons. But the Zenith ship and Shredder gun are included for free digitally also, along with free digital versions of the above toys. So you never have to use them. When you start a new game (or continue an existing one) just select the option to play digitally and you're good to go. If you download any other content digitally it'll also show up as unlocked permanently if you choose to play digitally.

If you go the physical toys route, you obviously have to scan them in on the controller mount, BUT once you've done that it unlocks a digital version of them for the next 7 days, so you could just scan them all in, immediately quit the game and then restart it and select the 'play digitally' option so you don't have to faff around scanning the toys in while you play it.

It's a lot easier in practice than I'm making it sound but Ubisoft have done a terrible job of explaining how it works and marketing it too.

Re: Review: Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps and Beans (Switch eShop)

TromaDogg

Just picked this up as it's currently discounted, and it's really good. I'm in the UK and almost 42 years old, and hadn't heard of them at all up until a couple of years back when a random funny clip from 'They Call Me Trinity' surfaced on Facebook so I researched the movie, watched it and became a fan. Never would have imagined anybody making a game based on them though 😂 Makes me wonder if any other random actor partnerships should get their own games too...Micheal Landon and Victor French in some kind of Little House On The Prairie/Highway To Heaven spinoff maybe? The possibilities are endless 😛

Re: Yo-Kai Watch Popularity Declines Sharply Against Steady Ol' Pokémon

TromaDogg

It's a real shame as personally, I love both the games and TV show but it was obvious even when the first game launched in the West that there just wasn't any 'buzz' or excitement like you get with a Pokemon release, and a lot of people just took one look at the merchandise and wrote it off as a 'kiddie' Pokemon rip off not worth wasting time on. However, it's also true that the games are a bit more simplistic than Pokemon and the character designs aren't quite as appealing, and Level 5's done a bit too much 'coasting' on it's existing success rather than make any proper effort to shake up or evolve the gameplay. I hope Yokai Watch 4 revives interest a bit....I'll certainly be picking it up and it's not a franchise I wish to see die out. The anime's been excellent and genuinely funny for the most part, more people should give it a shot.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey Is One Of The Worst-Selling Mario Games To Date

TromaDogg

I bought it (mainly for the Minions segment, plus I'm a bit of a collector ), but I also have the original DS version and actually played through that only a couple of years ago...on the very same New 3DS I still play on. It's bonkers to release a remake of a game on a console that's backward compatible with the existing old version, unless substantial additions and improvements are made to it, and as far as I can tell the main game's identical asides from a different (arguably worse) visual style and a couple of slightly tweaked bits of music here and there.

Also, the 3DS is pretty much a dead console now on this side of the globe. Yeah, long time fans like me will still support it but it's had no exciting 'big' releases over the last year that aren't just ports or updates of older games and it's well known even to casuals that the next main Pokemon game will be on Switch. There's not many reasons for the masses to carry on playing on 3DSes in 2019. It's sad that Yokai Watch hasn't managed to catch on in the West as much as it needed to, to help keep the 3DS alive but maybe even that'll find more of an audience if Yokai Watch 4 for Switch gets localised.

Re: Rumour: Multiple Online Listings Suggest Assassin’s Creed III Is Coming To Switch

TromaDogg

@Peach64 To be fair, NSMBU came out exclusively on a console barely anybody bought so most will have missed it first time around whereas AC3 came out on every main home platform even including the Wii U. So it's not really an equal comparison. Plus also, AC3 is a game that's been discounted time and time again and even given away free on Xbox Games With Gold, so there's much, much more of a likelihood that many more people have already played it.

Re: Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Owltimate Edition Arrives On Switch This Month

TromaDogg

Got a physical copy, which arrived today, for just over £25 from Shopto, which for me personally is worth it for a physical version of my fave platformers of recent years. Really don't understand some of the negativity surrounding it (the actual game as opposed to the price)...it looks gorgeous, the soundtrack is excellent, it controls really well, is challenging without being unfair and makes constant clever use of the 'shifting' mechanic. One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose But that being said, the price is a fairly big issue compared to other versions and I probavly wouldn't have paid this much for a digital copy. The new levels and new music are a big plus point for me as a fan though, and may be for others.

Re: The World Ends With You: Final Remix Won't Support The Switch Pro Controller

TromaDogg

I'm sensing a vocal minority thing here. Sure, it sucks that there's no Pro Controller support and I agree there should be. But every single Switch comes with 2 joycons, whereas the Pro Controller is an optional extra. Would all the people stamping their feet and threatning to cancel preorders be as vocal and angry if it was the other way around, and joycons weren't supported but the Pro Controller was? I think not, somehow.

Re: Sony Interactive Entertainment Asia President Says Switch Has Had A "Positive Influence" On Games Market

TromaDogg

The Wii, and now the Switch has shown that there's a huge amount if people who just want games to be 'fun' again...and that aiming for everything to be 'realistic and high definition' above all else maybe isn't as important as some people like to convince themselves it is. There's room for both of course, but I've already bought a lot more on the Switch over the past year than I have for my Xbox One or PS4 over the past 4 years. And being able to start a game at home, take it out the dock and play it on the go for a couple of hours during the day while I'm out and then immediately return to it on my TV later is a huge plus.

Re: Review: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

TromaDogg

@Francema 'I was ditching this one from the start based on its tittle. Who would play a series 8 game for the first time, even worse in the case of and RPG.'

Have you ever heard of a little known game called Final Fantasy 7? 😉

You can play this one just fine, completely stand alone game. It often takes for one game in a Japan centric series to become a breakout hit to get the others localised. There's honestly pretty much zero connection to the others with Ys VIII though

Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)

TromaDogg

It's an 8gb (or near enough) download, it's on the back of the box

It's annoying but I still choose physical over digital as it reduces the download size (8gb as opposed to 21gb) and larger capacity micro SD cards are still damn expensive for those of us who don't like having to delete all of our old games every time we download a new one. If I was an all digital buyer, I'd have had to buy at least 1 extra SD card by now, and at that point you're just accumulating a collection of SD cards rather than nice carts in nice boxes

Re: WHIP! WHIP!

TromaDogg

I was going to buy this but they've disabled purchasing on the EU E-Shop, any idea why??

Re: Poll: The Switch eShop is Hot, But Is It Time for an Overhaul of Its User Interface?

TromaDogg

The E-Shop definitely needs an overhaul. Otherwise in a year's time it's going to be a complete minefield to any new Switch owner just looking for, say, puzzle games and being faced with having to bring up a list of every game on the E-shop and scour through it one by one...all the earlier games towards the bottom will likely be ignored.

@IceClimbers Sorry, I initially misinterpreted your last comment as disagreeing with the point the poster above you was making so deleted my last post, didn't mean to tag you before.

Re: FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch Accounts for a Tiny Percentage of UK Launch Sales

TromaDogg

There are a few factors at play here.

The Switch still has a relatively small install base plus FIFA is a very casual orientated game...if you walk into the likes of Tesco or Asda you'll see rows of XB1 or PS4 versions front and centre wheres Switch owners have to scrabble around looking for copies online or in a specialist shop like Game. Then there's also the many people who buy XB1s and PS4s only to play FIFA and CoD, and will buy the console all their mates have...not helped by the fact that EA gimped Nintendo owners once again by not having an in game lobby service to play with friends, which a fair few outlets like Eurogamer have been making a fuss about.

So I'm not really surprised. Nor do I care as I've not bought a FIFA game since FIFA 98, but it'll be a shame if EA do their usual 'Hur dur, Nintendo owners don't want our games, they only want Mario & Zelda and their console is an underpowered piece of crap for babies' nonsense again
