Re: WayForward to Celebrate 25th Anniversary With eShop Discounts

TromaDogg

Whilst I don't think that's a great discount for Shantae (should've been 50% off), I'll bite at that price. Mostly because I want it on Wii U and the Premium promotion for earning points towards £5 vouchers end on April 1st. I also really enjoyed the first 2 games so hopefully I'll like the third too. I'll also grab MSF2 on Wii U as well, as I had a lot of fun with the 3DS version...especially the vocal version of the theme tune you unlock at the end

Re: Gone Home Console Versions Are "Not Actively in Development Any Longer"

TromaDogg

Having played the game (and I use the term 'game' loosely), I mostly agree with DarkKirby.

I hate it when games requiring very little input from the 'player' are given a free pass because they have interesting storylines. We should be judging games mainly by their gameplay...if you want to rate something by storyline standards, go be a book reviewer or a movie critic.

I don't care how intriguing a premise is, if the gameplay isn't there to back it up, then a game's review sore should reflect that. I was uncomfortable when The Last Of Us was given perfect 10s too.

Gone Home works as a short piece of interactive entertainment, but I really wouldn't class it as much of a 'game' at all. Take away the storyline and it's no better than The Letter, which is (rightfully) widely ridiculed.

Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Eon Ticket Distribution Code is Now Live

TromaDogg

I only just got it. But I only started playing Pokemon Alpha Sapphire today

@bernardtullassa At the start screen, instead of loading your save game, go onto 'Mystery Gift' and connect to the internet....you'll be given an option to receive a gift by inputting a code there. Then once it's downloaded, go to any Poke Center in the game and there's a woman standing in front of the main desk who'll give it to you.

Re: The Legend of Zelda New Nintendo 3DS Cover Plates Now Up For Pre-Order From Official UK Store, Out Now Elsewhere

TromaDogg

@Alundra-1998 Glad you got them if it's something you want to keep

From my perspective, the artwork on the plates is really nice, but I've got no use for them as far as their intended purpose goes so I passed on ordering them in the hope that somebody else who genuinely wanted them would be able to get them. There's plenty of places I can download and print the artwork off from if needs be.

Re: The Legend of Zelda New Nintendo 3DS Cover Plates Now Up For Pre-Order From Official UK Store, Out Now Elsewhere

TromaDogg

I didn't order them...I kinda wanted them, but I've got the Majora's Mask edition New 3DS XL so they'd just be a pointless collectible to me that I'd be keeping packaged up forever (I've no intention of buying a regular sized New 3DS) and denying somebody else of having.

I only hope that most of the people who got them actually wanted them and weren't just buying them to resell on Ebay and Amazon

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

Cybernator for me and the Hyrule Warriors DLC.

I was hoping we'd get Castlevania Aria Of Sorrow this week as well, but for some odd reason they've been spacing out the Castlevania games in Europe rather than give us one each week.

Re: Feature: Tales From the Front Line of amiibo Collecting

TromaDogg

I've got all 29 released in the UK so far, I preordered my first two from shopto.net (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong), and after that I've ordered 1 of each of every one available from nintendo.co.uk, (asides from Villager and Kirby I ordered from Amazon Germany when they were near impossible to find just before Christmas) and have preorders locked in for 1 of each of all of the Super Mario wave (along with a copy of Mario Party 10) and 1 of each of all of the next Smash Bros wave (Pac Man, Lucina, Wario, Ness, Charizard, Robin). Weirdly, when I received the most recent amiibos this past Thursday, I also got an emall from Nintendo apologising that I'd not received the next Smash Bros ones yet even though they're not due until April.

Reading stories like the ones above makes my blood boil. I would never scalp, and hate the thought that people are deliberately depriving fans and genuine collectors of the chance to buy at RRP, especially store staff who are blatantly putting them straight on Ebay. I read a thread on here recently where people were basically defending scalpers (with regards to the Majora's Mask New 3DSes) saying it's all 'supply and demand' and that kind of crap, but when many regular customers are denied the chance to buy any to begin with because of the likes of unscrupulous store clerks, or a guy is laughing in a child's face and already expecting to get near $100 on Ebay before he's even listed them, when do you finally start seeing it for the shady practice that it is?

I'm grateful now that nintendo.co.uk have limited amiibo to 1 of each per customer....I think it should apply to all sites and stores as well. This kind of nonsense needs to be stamped out at the source. It's no good saying 'people will only pay what they want on Ebay' because we all know that there's plenty of shill bidding that goes on there.

Re: Amazon UK Delays Some Shulk Pre-Orders to Later in the Year

TromaDogg

@sweetiepiejonus Ah, that's good to hear

I don't have a Gamestop nearby me, it's GAME and Grainger Games where I am. I don't know how reliable Grainger Games are for things like amiibo (they seem OK for games) but GAME are notoriously bad for everything (I've had numerous poor experiences with them in the past myself). As it is, they're already charging more for amiibo than just about everywhere else, unless you buy them at the same time as Smash Bros Wii U, Hyrule Warriors or Mario Kart 8. And it's unlikely that they'll have enough Shulks to go around to cope with demand anyways.

Re: Amazon UK Delays Some Shulk Pre-Orders to Later in the Year

TromaDogg

@Achoo I've already got Charizard, Wario, Robin, Lucina, Pac Man and Ness locked in with Nintendo.co.uk, though I was panicking and regularly checking the site after they were announced on the Nintendo Direct video.

I'm still fearful that I'm not going to get a full set, and will miss out on a couple just before the last few characters are launched

Re: Amazon UK Delays Some Shulk Pre-Orders to Later in the Year

TromaDogg

Got mine from Nintendo.co.uk today, along with Mega Man, Sonic, King Dedede (my fave amiibo so far ) and Meta Knight.

I won't trust any other outlets asides from Ninty themselves now after reading all the horror stories of cancelled preorders going around over the last couple of months.

Re: Reaction: Satoru Iwata Holds Off on Major Announcements as Investors Appear Settled

TromaDogg

@blondeandy I agree with you, it's been a massive problem. Since the last lot of preorders went up, Nintendo.co.uk have actually put limits on of one of each amiibo per customer.

They really should have done that much earlier to stop people from buying them in bulk just to scalp on Ebay and Amazon marketplace. I've managed to get them all so far but I hate having to constantly scour the websites for preorder notifications every time new amiibo are announced in order to beat the scalpers. It really has sucked a lot of the fun out of collecting them.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

@Bass_X0 Any benefits over the SNES version of Super Ghouls n Ghosts? I'd have preferred Capcom release Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, Final Fight One, Mega Man & Bass or either GBA Breath of Fire before Super Ghouls n Ghosts.

Yeah, the GBA version of Super Ghouls n Ghosts has all new 'arrange' stages apparently so I'm interested to see what those are like. I'd like to see Final Fight One as it's a huge improvement over the SNES port of the original game, but what would be the benefit of the GBA Breath Of Fire games over the SNES versions that are already on VC? And Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on GBA has a couple of nasty game breaking glitches they need to deal with before they put it out there.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

I've still got all my original Castlevania carts, but it's cool having all the Nintendo Castlevanias downloaded on the same system so I'll grab Harmony Of Dissonance and give it another playthrough....it's an excellent game even though the soundtrack is horrible and sounds like something the Sega Master System would pump out.

Really interested in the GBA port of Super Ghouls n Ghosts as I've only played the SNES original and would like to see what these 'arrange' levels are all about.

No interest in Kirby at that price as I have it on disc

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

Getting a Majora's Mask New 3DS but also physical copies of both Majora's Mask (it's the collector's edition, and it's by far my favourite Zelda) and Monster Hunter 4 so no downloads as I'll have plenty to play this week.

More amiibo are launching next week too...ouch, my poor wallet!

Re: Target Won't Be Restocking Rosalina amiibo, Selected Wave 3 Figures Won't Be Available In-Store

TromaDogg

I've got them all, so not a worry for me but....why do this?!? And why completely screw up one of your biggest global markets with these 'retailer exclusives' that have made it all but impossible for many people in the US to get a full collection, or even just the few niche characters they want?

I don't often say this with regards to Nintendo, but I'm so glad I live in the UK at the moment and have been able to preorder ever single amiibo really easily direct from Nintendo's UK website with free delivery. The fact that people in the US can't buy (or preorder) ever single one of them direct from Nintendo's US website is just plain insanity.

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

I'd have bought Shantae at full price on Wii U, but with more amiibo, the New 3DS XL, Monster Hunter 4 and Zelda Majora's Mask 3D all launching soon then it's going to have to wait. As much as Nintendo would like to think otherwise, I'd not made of cash.

I've already got Stealth 2, and the other 3 I've got via PS+, so sadly I have to say 'nothing ' for me this week

Re: Not Everyone is Thrilled That Metroid Prime Trilogy Lands on the Wii U eShop Tomorrow

TromaDogg

@AshFoxX That's partly because the remake of Conker on Xbox (Conker: Live and Reloaded) just isn't as good as the original. They removed all of the cool local multiplayer games and replaced them with a crappy online team deathmatch type thing (which you can't even play properly anymore thanks to no Xbox Live on original Xboxes) and the censorship on some parts, unbelievably, was actually increased. That, and the fact that carts are just more collectible than discs anyway.

I'm hugely surprised that Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, even Perfect Dark were ported to Xbox Live Arcade (as Microsoft now own Rare) but not other games in Rare's back catalogue like Conker, Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps....I think they're really missing a trick here and even though I have those games on N64, I'd love to see them made more widely available for a reasonable price.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th January (Europe)

TromaDogg

I had the good sense to buy Metroid Prime Trilogy on disc the first time around, so I don't need to buy it again.....anyone who didn't should snap it up at that price though.

I'll take Castlevania Circle Of The Moon and the Hyrule Warriors DLC I've already paid for this week I think, along with possibly Gunman Clive 2 on 3DS.

Re: Feature: 20 Wii Games We'd Love To Download From The Wii U eShop - Part Two

TromaDogg

@Shiryu Anarchy Reigns on the PS3/Xbox 360 technically is the sequel to Mad World. It also bombed and sold even less on those supposedly popular mature formats than Mad World did on Wii so it's very unlikely we'll see a Wii U version unfortunately

On topic, I'd love Excitebots as it was never released here in the UK, and in return they should also put up Disaster: Day Of Crisis as it was a great game that never got a US release.

Re: Official Nintendo UK Store Kicks Off amiibo Pre-Orders for Wave 4

TromaDogg

Managed to snag preorders for 1 of each, so my complete collection continues for now

Interestingly, if you look on nintendo.co.uk now, they've limited all amiibo purchases to 1 per customer. I know that will annoy some people who want 2 or 3 but let's be honest, it's probably the only fair way to combat scalpers at the moment. Hopefully this will make future amiibo a little easier to get hold of.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Had a Strong Start With amiibo, But Evolution's a Priority for 2015

TromaDogg

I just wish Nintendo would get it's act together. I've bought them all so far (only one of each, I'm not a scalper ) direct from Nintendo.co.uk but they haven't said anything about Wave 4 yet (Ness, Pac-Man, Robin etc) even though the preorders are now sold out on at least 2 other sites I use.

I'll be royally pissed if I can't get those amiibo for RRP and Nintendo UK aren't stocking them on their own site as they haven't said anything about giving exclusivity to any retailers over here

I am interested in the Super Mario range too, but I'll initially just be concentrating on the characters I've not already got from the Smash set, and picking up the others later.

Re: Sonic Boom Gets a Whopping 1GB+ Update in Europe, and Fans Figure Out What it Did

TromaDogg

@sonicmeerkat Sonic '06 still retains the title of worst Sonic game as it actually is broken. Some sections are so glitchy that you'll often fall through solid looking platforms to your death, and the final stages (where you play as every other character and have to collect Chaos Emeralds to revive Sonic who's been KO'd at that point in order for him to fight the final boss) are just complete pot luck as to whether you beat them or not....black holes keep appearing in mid air to kill you and appear in different places every time, making progress completely random. That, and the horrendous loading times (even when you've installed the game to the Xbox 360 HDD) make it an exercise in torture to play.

Sonic Boom is bad, but it will never be quite that bad.

Re: Sonic Boom Gets a Whopping 1GB+ Update in Europe, and Fans Figure Out What it Did

TromaDogg

First off, it's not a 'broken' game...it can still be played from beginning to end with few problems if you're not actively looking for glitches or actively trying to find ways to jump outside of the obvious borders surrounding the game world. So anybody playing this game in years to come can still go through it.

That being said, the glitches are easy to find, it has severe frame rate issues on top of that, and should never have been released in the state it's in. it's ridiculous that the patch is so huge given that Super Mario 3D World is a near perfect game and doesn't take up much more room. Sega really should publicly apologise for it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd January (Europe)

TromaDogg

I'd have bought DKCR if it had incorporated proper Gamepad or Classic Controller Pro controls, but I've still got it on disc anyway and as much as I enjoyed the level designs, I absolutely HATED the enforced 'waggle' controls for doing Donkey's roll attack...it was very nearly a game breaker for me the first time around.

Not even going to bother with Metroid next week, but again I've got it on disc anyway...if it's not been enhanced in any way and it's just the original Wii version booting in original Wii mode, what's the point of spending even more money on it? Superb trilogy for anyone who doesn't already own it though, and the nunchuck/wiimote controls really add to the first 2 games.

This week I'll probably grab Citizens Of Earth (Wii U), and DK: King Of Swing a little further down the line...never played it, but I have played DK: Jungle Climber on the DS which was a direct sequel to it (I think?) and that was really good.

Re: Discontinued amiibo Figures Could Be Released In Card Form, Says Miyamoto

TromaDogg

@JellySplat I opened my Villager and Wii Fit Trainer too

But some people (like myself) enjoying using them with the games and aren't intending to just keep them sealed for the next 50 years hoping to make an extra couple of bucks so it's all good. I've never bought into the whole idea of buying things you don't want solely to profit from them.

Re: UK Retail Survey Highlights the Challenges Facing Nintendo

TromaDogg

Let's be honest here, the only real reason the Xbox One is suddenly selling well anywhere is because Microsoft went into panic mode and have been practically giving it away for the last couple of months.

The console launched for over £400 last year with enforced Kinect, so didn't sell that great and worldwide sales have been behind the Wii U all year....fast forward to Black Friday and nearly every single website is promoting Xbox Ones with 3 or 4 games including latest stuff like either Assassin's Creed Unity or GTA V or whatever for around £299. Of course that's going to capture the public's attention, they think they're getting all the latest stuff at a bargain price right before Xmas.

So I'm not surprised in the slightest that Xbox One sales have suddenly shot up. Wii U prices are of course also lower than they were at launch now too but you usually only get one bundled game (albiet a brilliant one like Mario Kart or Smash Bros), and Nintendo didn't do any prominent price slashing right on top of Black Friday/Xmas like Microsoft did.

Xbox One's even finally overtook PS4s in terms of sales, why not mention that too?

Point is, Nintendo really need better marketing and pricing like Microsoft (and Sony last year) in order to grab the public's attention and make them buy.

I also don't understand the mentality of gamers either. On any given day, I can read at least a few websites (including UK centric ones) full of people complaining that they've bought a PS4 or Xbox One and there's hardly any games on it they want that haven't also been released for previous gen, and they're sick of games like The Last Of Us and GTA V that only came out last year just being re-released again at full price. Yet these people will still stubbornly stick to their guns that buying a PS4/Xbox One during 2014 was a better decision than buying a Wii U that had Mario Kart 8, DK Country Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros as major exclusives all in the same year, and a recent back catalogue including Pikmin 3, Zombi U, Zelda Wind Waker HD (a game that hasn't been around for a while and was actually worth bringing back) and Super Mario 3D World.

Re: Poll: Have You Been Able to Buy the Super Smash Bros. Controller, GameCube Adapter and amiibo You Want?

TromaDogg

There's no amiibo option for 'I got them all, but had to pay more for one'...only one I paid more than £10.99 for was Villager, I paid £15 to import it from Amazon Germany after a tip off from another user on this site.

I got all of my preordered Wave 2 amiibos today

I also got the GC adapter on launch day, and the Smash branded controller a week later, both preordered online.

I guess I've been one of the very lucky ones.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

TromaDogg

@Damo I just thought it was worth mentioning because both Mystical Ninja and Qiuake 2 are pictured in your article above, and South Park too which also used the Controller Pak for save data rather than battery back up. Castlevania 64's another one I can think of that required it.

The N64 was my main console at the time and I've still got loads of my old games, and I was forced to own 2 Controller Paks to deal with save data.....I was always grateful when Nintendo published games had battery back up.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

TromaDogg

@Damo That's not entirely true, there were quite a number of third party N64 games that didn't have battery back up and used the Memory Pack for level save data, such as Duke Nukem 64, Mystical Ninja, Doom and Quake.

I assume they did that to cut costs because I remember a lot of third party publishers complaining about the costs of manufacturing carts vs CDs, which was the beginnings of Nintendo's poor relationship with them.

Re: Nintendo's New Response: Some amiibo "Likely" to be Discontinued

TromaDogg

I've got a Villager on the way to me from Amazon Germany, got the email about it an hour ago. I've got a Kirby ordered with them as well, but nothing about that yet...they're meant to be back in stock this week.

I've also got a Yoshi back ordered from Nintendo.co.uk for as soon as they come in and I've currently got Wii Fit Trainer, Pikachu, Fox, Samus and Peach on the way as well (due to be delivered on Thursday). I've already got Donkey Kong, Marth, Link and Mario.

I've just gone ahead and preordered all of the rest. I knew they'd sell, but I wasn't expecting quite this level of demand. :/

Re: Rumour: Villager, Marth & Wii Fit Trainer amiibo Discontinued

TromaDogg

@Hy8ogen But what about people like me who are just big Nintendo fans in general and fans of ALL their games? Sure, they're not the kind of characters you expect to see in a fighting game. But they do have a prominent place in Nintendo's roster, they're playable characters in Smash 3DS/Wii U and as such it's cool to have their amiibos which are modelled on their Classic Mode trophies in Smash.

If you haven't got an interest in the quirkier characters, that's entirely up to you but there's a lot of us out there who LOVE stuff like this, and also really enjoy the original games these characters featured in too.

Re: Rumour: Villager, Marth & Wii Fit Trainer amiibo Discontinued

TromaDogg

@awesomeunclet Brilliant news, thank you! I didn't think to check there. They deliver to the UK so just ordered a Villager amiibo, cost £16.95 in total inc. shipping....I can live with paying £6 more than I would have had to have paid buying it from Nintendo.co.uk or a high street store, didn't want to end up paying £30+ for it though.
