Re: Random: EA Executive is as Non-Committal to NX as Possible, PR Assistant Approves

TromaDogg

'If it makes sense'....just like it made sense to release Mass Effect 3 for full price whilst every other platform got a trilogy collection? Just like it made sense to release a gimped version of FIFA based on last year's engine, and then to not support the current gen console the following year but carry on supporting the previous gen one? Just like it made sense to release a port of a racing game for full price 4 months after all of it's hype had died down and with zero marketing?

EA do not understand the meaning of the word 'sense' when it comes to releasing games on Nintendo platforms. They really need to own up to their own mistakes as to why their Wii U games didn't sell.

Re: Some Unlucky Fire Emblem Fates Customer Have Their Special Edition Pre-Orders Cancelled

TromaDogg

I missed the Nintendo store preorders due to being at work but luckily I had the foresight to order one from GAME. It's fine if they initially overcharge me, my account can handle it until the inevitable refund. Somebody who did get a Nintendo store preorder has also offered me their Family Crest coin when it turns up too, so hopefully all's well that ends well.

The only one I'm really annoyed about is Tokyo Mirage Sessions....the Fortissimo Edition went up for sale again while I was at work (I do late afternoon/evening shifts) so I wasn't even aware of it until it was long gone. I've so far managed to get every other Special/Collector edition on the Wii U (including the Bayonetta 1 & 2 First Print Edition, as well as Project Zero) and have been unable to source it from elsewhere so I'm now at the mercy of the scalpers for that one

Re: Interview: Humble Bundle Co-Founder John Graham Reflects on the Successful Friends of Nintendo Promotion

TromaDogg

I thought this was a great bundle. I had most of the games already but to get Retro City Rampage DX and Shantae on 3DS, and Citizens Of Earth and Runbow on Wii U for around £10 was still well worth it for me...I'm actually enjoying Runbow much more now (didn't like the demo) and might drop cash on the DLC

It was nice being able to give a few free codes away for my spare games on here too Hopefully encourages people to try a few games they wouldn't normally have bothered with

Re: Three New Titles Have Been Added to the Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle

TromaDogg

@linkimaumi1 No problem, it's just nice to be able to help people out with freebies if I can. I'm in the UK so all my spare codes are European ones.

If anybody wants them, I've got up for grabs:

Super Street Fighter 4 3D
Shantae & the Pirate's Curse (Wii U code only)
Affordable Space Adventures
Freedom Planet
Swords & Soldiers 2
Nano Assault Neo EX

@MJKOP No problem, happy to help

Re: Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle Passes $1 Million and 100,000 Bundles Sold

TromaDogg

It kind of sucks that I paid full price for Freedom Planet and Retro City Rampage (on the Wii), and still paid a fair whack for Shantae and Affordable Space Adventures which had slight discounts on them around last Xmas, but I've still bought a Humble Bundle to help charity out.

Hopefully more people will now appreciate what an awesome game Freedom Planet is.

I'm interested to see what's next.

Re: Talking Point: The 3DS Faces the Challenge of Taking Nintendo Through 2016

TromaDogg

@Angelic_Lapras_King I can't see us getting Super Mario Sunshine HD....the original Gamecube version uses the analogue triggers on the Gamecube controller, the R button in particular to control the strength of the jet of water from the Fludd pack...

Anlogue triggers which Nintendo have not implemented into any of their controllers ever since.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th April (Europe)

TromaDogg

@NodesforNoids Because Yokai Watch is a portable fun Pokemon style RPG and Uncharted 4 isn't? You're literally comparing apples and oranges.

I do have Uncharted 4 preordered but I am concerned that it's going to be all cutscenes and presentation over actual gameplay. The last trailer I saw had zero gameplay footage in it. That does not exactly get me excited. I really liked Uncharted 1 & 2 but I found Uncharted 3 and even The Last Of Us a let down because they were more about the style over the substance. The Last Of Us in particular is pretty much the Emperor's new clothing of gaming, with a lot of people scared to say anything negative about it because of all the perfect scores it got despite the fact that the actual gameplay in it is pretty dull for the most part.

I'm more looking forward to Mirror's Edge Catalyst, to be honest.

Re: NIS America No Longer Publishing Atlus Games In Europe

TromaDogg

Aw heck no

The Etrian Odyssey games are what I play most on 3DS, I even picked up Etrian Mystery Dungeon. I'd hate it if they now did an Etrian Untold 3 and we didn't get it here in Europe.

Thanks, Nintendo, and your pointless region locking that I'm sure some people will still defend.

Re: Star Fox Zero Makes a Positive Start in the UK Charts

TromaDogg

More people ought to give Star Fox Zero a chance. The only people who seem to really dislike it for the most part are those who haven't played it and are determined to ignore any positive comments or reviews it's had unless it fits in with their agenda of 'Motion controls are bad, mmmmkay?'

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th April (Europe)

TromaDogg

Physical copy of Yokai Watch for me, been really looking forward to it. I'll download that Mario/Donkey kong amiibo game as well, seeing as I've already got all the amiibo I'll need to get full use out of it.

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

TromaDogg

@VanillaLake As I said, we'll have to disagree to disagree. I'm still wondering why you give Pandora's Tower a free pass (even going so far as to say you prefer it to Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story) despite it's middling reviews and Metacritic score though, whereas in the case of Star Fox Zero (which has had some more favourable reviews than Pandora's Tower got) you feel that they warrant you avoiding the game altogether.

@JaxonH I can only agree. So far, I'm having a lot of fun with it and aiming and shooting on the Gamepad with gyro controls remind me of the good old days of playing the original Star Wars arcade game with the yoke controller, and feels just as fast and responsive. The controls are not 'bad' they are just different to the norm....I can remember people complaining that they'd rather play Kid Icarus Uprising with 2 analogue sticks wheres I can't see how that would be anywhere near as fast and accurate or enjoyable at all, but it was enough to put a lot of people off even trying it. From when the very first footage was released and the motion controls were showcased, it was clear that a negative portion of the internet had a very clear agenda to complain and not even give the game a chance, and were going to cling to every bad review they could find as justification for them not having to admit that they just might be wrong.

Speaking of Star Wars, imagine just how dull and formulaic it would have been had it launched in arcades with the traditional control set up of the time, a joystick and a couple of fire buttons. Sure, it would have still been fun but the yoke controller really immerses you and gives you the feeling of being there, and makes for a memorable experiences. Often, change is good.

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

TromaDogg

@VanillaLake I've read that in it's entirety. I've also been playing Star Fox Zero myself since I received it through the mail yesterday. It's too early for me to give a detailed opinion so far but I'm personally enjoying it despite a few minor issues. Just because I'm not screaming from the rooftops about how poor the controls are to fit in with your preconceptions doesn't make me some kind of rabid Nintendo fanboy, just in the same way that you admitting earlier on that you like Pandora's Tower much more than either Xenoblade Chronicles or The Last Story doesn't mean you have to make an issue out of it's many faults despite it reviewing worse than either of those two games and only sitting at 73 overall on Metacritic.

You can't have it both ways.

What I don't understand is why you and some others seemingly hold one massive negative write up of a game (which is still a 'review' of sorts despite not having a score) as being some beacon of truth and honesty on the internet when there's plenty of other more positive reviews out there? So this one guy is right and all the others are biased nostalgia clouded fanboys? I didn't think much of The Last Of Us when it first launched, does my single opinion count for more than all the other people who loved it and gave it Game Of The Year awards? I suppose it's your prerogative if you want to stick to your guns though in order to push your agenda just as much as it's my prerogative to dismiss it and focus on the people who've actually bothered to give the game a score, even if it was a low one. We'll have to agree to disagree on this issue I'm afraid.

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

TromaDogg

A lot of the negative comments on this review are hilarious. Oh Noes! Nintendolife didn't agree with our preconceived notions that the game would be complete rubbish! Therefore we must keep going on about Metacritic and 1 random idiot who wouldn't even do the job he was paid to do and finish the game (which apparently would only take a few hours even if you have issues with the controls) in order to push our agenda! Nintendo fans must be biased!

OK

So what makes all the positive reviews wrong and all the negative reviews right?

Nintendolife isn't the only professional body that have given Star Fox Zero a positive review, there's also Games Master Magazine, Game Central Metro, Cheat Code Central, The Games Machine, Game Rant and God Is A Geek amongst others.

Why must we take the negative reviews as gospel but treat all the positive reviews as if they're biased or wearing rose tinted glasses in some way?

Pathetic. Some people have just not wanted to enjoy this game ever since the first footage was released and concerns were raised about the Gamepad controls. That's pretty much all there is to it. The same way that Pixels wasn't a fantastic movie but certainly wasn't the worst released last year, yet it became the 'cool' movie to bash because people who hadn't seen it took a dislike to the trailer.

Re: Nintendo of America Opens the Teaser Site for Metroid Prime: Federation Force

TromaDogg

I find it impossible to believe that at no point during this game's development did s single one of the development team, or anybody at Nintendo think 'Man, that art style sucks' or 'Wow, the fans will be so disappointed with this when we unveil it!'

I'm one of the people prepared to give it a go, but I'd dearly love to know how this project was greenlit and given the chibi style it has been.

Re: Review: Yoshi's Story (Wii U eShop / N64)

TromaDogg

Not my favourite Yoshi game but it is very good I quickly learned that the real challenge was in going for high scores/melons and had way much more fun playing it that way.

I honestly can't believe that people still buy games, only do the bare minimum to see an end screen and don't at least try and get any of the unlockable stuff or extra content. You never get a full appreciation of any game that way.

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th April (Europe)

TromaDogg

Hopefully they've tweaked Lovely Planet. There was no option to invert the Y axis in the demo so I found it nearly unplayable. I've had to give QUBE a miss because of it too. There should always be the option for both on FPS games. Seemed like it could be a good game though.

Re: Editorial: The Weird World Discovered When Searching for Miitomo on Google Play

TromaDogg

@Sticker I'm not going to judge anybody because I've played a few games via an R4 card myself, but heck, that's AWFUL. The controls I mean. That's why you'd never catch me playing the likes of Super Mario World on a smart phone. Must be really tricky to play with that horrible loocking touch d-pad, touch buttons and also the placement of the buttons. Just...urgh. Even the plug in controllers/controller docks I've seen for smartphones aren't very good.

And plus, in order to avoid having your thumbs all over the playing area whilst you're playing, the phone in the picture has had to relegate Super Mario World to a tiny fraction of the screen. Just...no.

Re: Fan-Made HD Twilight Princess Update "On Hiatus" Following YouTube Takedowns By Nintendo

TromaDogg

@Moon It's not 'his' copy of the game though, all he owns is the physical media it's on and a license to play it, Nintendo have ultimate ownership of the code and copyright over it. Buying somebody else's game doesn't give you the right to modify it and potentially sell it on to other people making 100% profit from what is mostly somebody else's work. Same as you can't buy a book, alter a couple of chapters and then redistribute it yourself as if you'd written it all. Even if he distributed it for free, it'd still be like he was taking credit for Twilight Princess even though he wasn't involved in it's original development, and Nintendo's name and reputation will be attached to his HD update even though they've had nothing to do with it.

There's a lot more to it than just 'it's his copy, he can do what I like with it'.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of fan mods and edits, but it doesn't surprise me when publishers get heavy handed. Especially seeing as Nintendo have literally just released their own version of Twilight Princess HD.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

TromaDogg

Motion controls do work great with a select few games. Unfortunately, as good a read as it is, Damo's article is blinkered....he's looking at things from the point of view of a father looking at how much his kid is enjoying a couple of really good games he's never experienced anything like before (he even says in the article that his son wasn't even alive when the original Wii launched) and not looking at things from the perspective of most gamers who played a lot of games on both the Wii and one of the other more 'traditional' consoles during that era...in most games, the use of motion controls was either forced or crap. That's not because motion controls are a bad thing, but it's because most developers aren't capable of thinking outside the box enough to implement them properly, especially if they're porting a game from another system with traditional controls. Had the Wii U kept the Wii Remote as it's primary controller, we'd have seen exactly the same situation happen again....a handful of games using the controls really well, and the majority of games forcing them in, in a completely sucky and gimmicky manner. There's a reason that a lot of Wiis ended up gathering dust in people's cupboards after the novelty of Wii Sports wore off.

If Damo was to make his son sit down and play a dozen or so regular Wii games (and I'm not talking about top tier titles like Skyward Sword, Mario Galaxy or Wii Sports Resort), I'm sure he'd be hankering back after a more normal control scheme in quite a short time. Just the same as most of the rest of us were who were around back then.

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th February (Europe)

TromaDogg

I'm interested in Return to PoPoloCrois, but I'm not interested in paying full whack for a digi only game that I'd much rather have a physical copy of, so they'll have to discount that price a bit before I jump in.

So nothing new for me this week. But I've got a massive backlog so I'm not really too bothered.

Re: Download Sales Continue to Increase to New Highs for Nintendo

TromaDogg

Probably some skewed figures too because some publishers are forcing us to buy digital whether we want to or not, like Capcom and the Phoenix Wright games, or even Nintendo themselves with Fatal Frame in the US. It's not as straightforward as just assuming people are actually starting to prefer digital.

Re: Video: Relive the Glorious Madness of The Wonderful 101 With the 60fps Director's Edition Trailer

TromaDogg

Before the Wii U launched, this was one of my most anticipated games and I had it preordered for weeks. But when it launched....eh. I tried and tried and tried and just couldn't 'click' with it, a real shame as I love Pikmin and the style of this game really appeals to me. Nowadays it sits sadly unloved in my pile of Wii U games. Maybe this is a sign that I should give it another chance. I do want to like it.

Re: Talking Point: Considering amiibo Features and the Reality of 'Physical DLC'

TromaDogg

What short memories some people have. Remember when Links Awakening came out on Game Boy, and then a couple of years later Link's Awakening DX came out for Game Boy Color? That had a whole extra dungeon too, effectively locked behind a whole new £100 handheld console. I don't recall anybody crying back then. So I don't really understand why people are crying so much about having to buy a £10.99 amiibo now?
