Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

TromaDogg

For me, it's the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World download (although I'll be replacing that with a physical copy at some point), Rune Factory (which I was going to get for regular Switch anyway), a carry case. screen protector, grip case for playing handheld more comfortably and also thumb caps and button stickers...I started playing my original Switch almost entirely handheld a few years back due to ongoing problems with my vision, and noticed that my thumbs started wearing down the material on the joycons at an alarming rate until I added my own protective bits to them....won't be making that mistake with Switch 2. I'll also grab a Pro Controller and 256gb Express SD card at some other point too, after recovering from the launch day expense.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Director Recalls "Harsh" Ubisoft Comment On 'Sparks Of Hope'

TromaDogg

@Skunkfish 'I seem to recall that crappy Bomberman game did really well at the launch of the Switch. It got a 62 Metacritic yet broke a million I believe....'

Similar situation too. Super Bomberman R also received a sequel that very quickly tanked in comparison to the first game. The original game was a big fish in a tiny pond of launch releases when it first came out, by the time the sequel came out it was a minnow in a vast ocean of better games.

Re: Sonic's New 3D Action-Platformer Is Exclusive To Apple Arcade

TromaDogg

The salt on display here is off the charts 😂😂😂 I only have android devices so I can't play this for now either, however it's no different to not being able to play the original Sonic games at the time without a Mega Drive, no Sonic Adventure games without a Dreamcast, no Sonic Advance games with a Game Boy Advance, no Sonic Rush games without a Nintendo DS and so on. Yeah, lots of those games have since been ported to other systems and/or are easily emulated nowadays but for a while they were format exclusives, for years in some cases. We really do live in an age of entitlement, where everybody thinks they should be able to have everything available to them right now.

Re: Poll: Have You Ordered Physical Switch Games That Came With The Cart Missing?

TromaDogg

I previously answered 'No, thankfully' on this poll and posted about usually buying stuff at launch...well, fast forward to today and my launch day copy of Norn9: Last Era arrived, from Amazon UK, with the plastic seal obviously slashed open at the side and the cart removed from inside. sigh 😑 So I'm a victim of this too now. I did immediately repackage it and take it down the road to my nearest Amazon Pick Up point and have a replacement copy already on the way to me to be delivered tomorrow, it remains to be seen if this one will actually have the game cart though. Having worked in warehouse administration myself on the stock control side of things, it should be fairly easy for Amazon to pinpoint who picked and who packed my order at least (if they bother to investigate, that is), it's not as easy to get away with stealing from customer orders as some people think it is.

Re: Poll: Have You Ordered Physical Switch Games That Came With The Cart Missing?

TromaDogg

Not happened to me, thankfully. Ironically, I did get a copy of Atari 50 from Amazon UK too, only around a month or so back and it arrived sealed but was fine and had the cart inside. I buy almost all my games physically from various sites including Amazon, but mostly I buy the games I want at launch so if some people are scamming and returning empty sealed boxes back for refunds, I'll usually always already have my copy by then.

Personally, I'd absolutely hate to just have loose Switch carts without their cases though.

Re: Controversial Rhythm Game 'Massage Freaks' May Have Been Canned On Switch

TromaDogg

The bit I never understood was why the outrage over this game, when another ecchi massage game with some...erm...'interesting' scenarios already exists on the Switch in the form of Senran Kagura Reflexions? Were the people who were acting like Massage Freaks was some kind of 'moral panic' actually personally bothered by the game and felt that it was somehow worth voicing an opinion about in a way Senran Kagura Reflexions seemingly wasn't? Or was it, as I suspect, more of a case of some Twitter screecher just happened to notice it on the release schedule for whatever reason and start throwing the usual boring and unfounded accusations around, and then others joined in more because they didn't want to be tarred with the same brush rather than because it was a genuine issue for them, and Massage Freaks ended up being unfairly thrust under the spotlight because of it? I could MAYBE understand if no other ecchi 'massage' games existed on Switch but as I pointed out, nobody batted an eyelid with Reflexions (and it was even eventually given a Western english cart release by Limited Run) 🤔

Re: Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon Double Pack Physical Switch Release Announced

TromaDogg

@Dom_31 @LikelySatan

I can only speak from my experience, dudes 🤷‍♂️ I definitey didn't find it anywhere near unplayable, and fully completed it with the true ending.

@SpoonySpoons Yeah, I know what you mean there. I found the original Darksiders completely unplayable on Wii U, it'd constantly stutter, freeze and randomly completely lock up whenever I tried to play it. Only game on my Wii U that I ever had that amount of problems with. I ended up abandoning it completely and playing it on Xbox 360 instead. Other people who bought it said it ran flawlessly, or near flawlessly for them though.

Re: Review: Clive 'N' Wrench - A Banjo-Kazooie-Style Throwback That Hits All The Wrong Notes

TromaDogg

@Banjo- Banjo-Kazooie's my favourite game, even still have it as my phone wallpaper and the title screen tune as my ringtone. This review is overly harsh IMO. I'd say the reviewer would very likely give Banjo-Tooie a poor rating if it was released today, and make similar complaints about the performance, camera and difficulty. Try not to be put off completely. As a big time 3D platform game fan myself, there's nothing I've experienced so far (the first 3 worlds and first 2 bosses) that's affected my enjoyment other than a bit of jank regarding graphical pop-in (doesn't happen often) and the loading screens inbetween the main worlds and hub area which are a bit annoying to be fair. At least keep an eye on it and pick it up if it gets a price cut.

Re: Review: Clive 'N' Wrench - A Banjo-Kazooie-Style Throwback That Hits All The Wrong Notes

TromaDogg

@Not_Soos Excellent review 👏👏 That pretty much mirrors my exact experience with it, and I hope some people take more note of what you've said than what the main review says. I'd also like to add that, for my part I've experienced zero control issues or lag (genuinely confused by that bit of the review), no noticeable framrate drops, and completed the first boss fight within 10 minutes, so if it's taking someone an hour or longer, then it's a classic case of 'skill issue'.

Re: Review: Tales of Symphonia Remastered - A GameCube Classic That Shows Its Age On Switch

TromaDogg

My Chosen Edition was delivered today. Not played it yet, but already disappointed that Bandai Namco have opted not to include a 'regular' game case with it, you only get the steelbook to store the cart in and nothing else. I tend to treat the steelbooks as collectible items and don't want to have them on the shelf alongside my 'regular' cases, plus there's no game name on the spine so it'd be tough to pick it out at a glance anyway. This is probably a 'first world' problem for many of you but it's messing with my 'collector's OCD' quite badly.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster

TromaDogg

To all the people defending this practice. Imagine that a company comissions you to create a work of art based on one if their IPs that becomes critically loved and sells well commercially, and you become well known for it within the industry.

Now imagine that 20 years later the company comissions me to make it look 'newer and shinier' and touch up the colours, lighting effect, etc but the artwork was still very recognisably the one you created. However, I sign my name prominently on it instead and have, in much smaller writing underneath, 'Credit to the original artist'. And then this artwork becomes popular with a newer audience but the only person who's name ever got mentioned in association with it was mine. How would that make you feel? Would you be absolutely fine with it?

Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package

TromaDogg

@RainbowGazelle I don't agree with two different versions of the same collection being released. That being said, I don't fully agree with Nintendo Life's rant about it, as their greivance partially lies in the fact that there's a digital release alongside Strictly Limited's physical release, and Strictly Limited were always upfront that it was only boxed copies exclusive to them and that a digital release was on the way as well. I quoted them earlier about it, and still have the marketing email in my inbox from them as proof. Nintendo Life should have given the previous collection a lower score and advised people to wait, it's no good suddenly getting annoyed ranting about what the publisher has done now, when the publisher already said they were going to do this early last year. Nintendo Life doesn't mention the situation in the original review at all, save for a brief comment in the 'pros and cons' section at the end which still fails to mention the fact they promised a digital release. Just my opinion.

Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package

TromaDogg

What exactly is the reviewer complaining about here?

"Additionally, if you overspent on a physical ‘Strictly Limited’ copy, you might feel none too pleased that it’s no longer strictly limited whatsoever"

Strictly Limited always said from the start that a digital release was on the way, and it's the boxed copy that is exclusive to them.

I suppose it's a shame if you were duped into buying the other smaller collection, but information about this one being on the way was circulated around March last year, months before the original collection was launched. I would say it's your own fault for not waiting, but you might have somehow missed the news. Although that strikes me as odd, seeing as you're a Nintendo news site.

Edit You done messed up here in my opinion, Nintendo Life. And your bitter review reflects that, blaming the publisher for your own shortcomings in not researching the information properly about a better collection being on the way last year, even though it was widely reported elsewhere. I'd agree that it's a bit scummy to release 2 different versions but anybody who knew this was coming and was bothered about having a more 'complete' collection should've just skipped the first one entirely.

Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package

TromaDogg

@EarthboundBenjy That's not what they said. This is what they actually stated:
"This extensive collection of Wonder Boy titles as a boxed version will only be available at Strictly Limited Games! This is a worldwide exclusive boxed release - there will not be any other physical release of equal completeness. Our Japanese partner Bliss Brain will provide a digital version of this amazing collection - more on this will be announced at a later date."

Re: Physical Switch Copies Of Bayonetta Are Returning To My Nintendo Store Later This Year

TromaDogg

I'm half doubting the veracity of Nintendo's claim that physical copies of Bayo 1 for the Switch ever legitimately went on sale in the UK. I've yet to see any photographic evidence that anybody managed to get one, and the only copies being sold on Ebay are imports (with the ESRB or Cero ratings on them, as opposed to the PEGI one). You'd expect at least ONE overpriced copy to show up, especially this close to Christmas, right? I bought an Asian realease import from Bazaar-Bazaar in the end for £39.99 with free p&p (the same price I was going to pay anyway) and if you select Software Information and then E-Shop from the Bayonetta icon on the main menu screen, it'll actually link to the Bayonetta page on the EU E-shop just fine...but if you try to earn any Gold Points for it from the My Nintendo Rewards Programme, it says you are unable to 'yet', suggesting that it's not been released physically in this region yet. Sometimes you can't redeem the My Nintendo Gold Points rewards for physical versions of some third party games, or can only do it once the game has been out for a few days but it's unheard of for a game published by Nintendo themselves, especially when they were (allegedly) selling physical copies of it a month ago. Anyways, we're now into December with no further mention of it. I suspect Nintendo UK are hoping that people will either just import or forget about it altogether if they don't think there's enough demand to justify another print run just for the UK or Europe.

Re: Soapbox: Xenoblade Chronicles X's Influence Is Bigger Than You Think

TromaDogg

It's a massive shame this has never been ported 🙁 although Gamepad functionality was quite heavily baked into it unfortunately. Whilst I did think it was a great game on Wii U, my eyesight is extremely bad and I was really struggling with the reams of extremely small text on screen and fairly low resolution of the Gamepad to the point where it was getting in the way of my enjoyment of the game and I eventually shelved it and never returned to finish it off. If it could somehow be ported across to another system with improved accessibility options, I'd double dip immediately.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition Is Finally Available To Pre-Order, If You Can Access The Site

TromaDogg

@Otoemetry Yeah, just come here to report that. Pretty pathetic really. Not even a 'sold out' listing, just completely removed and gone. Today really has been handled terribly. Glad other people were able to get theirs. Was a complete washout of constant page refreshes and frustration for me. And I wish evil things upon the people who've already listed their preorders for the £29.99 box/steelbook/artbook set for £150+ on Ebay, it's an absolutely morally bankrupt thing to do when so many fans just legitimately want something to display at home.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition Is Finally Available To Pre-Order, If You Can Access The Site

TromaDogg

I love how Nintendo UK picked the absolute worst possible day and time to put this up for preorder for me, when I had a doctor's appointment to go to after being at home most of the time for the last week 🙄 Got the email alert on my phone about 5 minutes after I left the house on the way there, couldn't very well just stop in the middle of crossing a couple of busy roads to check it properly and by the time I did a couple of minutes later the site had already gone into meltdown and still is. Resigned myself to the fact I've probably missed out now.

Re: Bayonetta 1 & 2 Receive New Update Ahead Of Third Game's Launch

TromaDogg

@WhiteUmbrella Base recently completely cancelled my order of the Amnesia Day 1 double pack collection without warning claiming the supplier wouldn't give them a release date...I immediately reordered it from Amazon (same price, fortunately) and it turned up on the day it was meant to be out, so not sure what that was about. Usually they're reliable though. I've even been able to get a couple of US only physicals from them, like the Capcom Fighting Collection a short while back.

Re: AeternoBlade II Dev Accuses Publisher PQube Of Withholding Payments

TromaDogg

That's a shame. I enjoyed both Aeternoblade 1 & 2, and have bought quite a few PQube games over the last few years, (including Bullet Break recently) because they tend to publish the kinds of smaller indie games that I like. Not good to know that my money has been withheld from at least one developer I like 🙁

Re: Review: Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special - A Tired Bubble Bobble-Alike That's Finally Affordable

TromaDogg

Dreadful review, because it's little more than an opinion piece that the reviewer just doesn't like it as much as Bubble Bobble rather than any attempt to talk in any detail about the gameplay mechanics or judge the game on it's own merits. Also, the continued usage of 'we' in the article suggests that it's also how everybody on the Nintendo Life team feels rather than just being the reviewer's own views so I also think that's a little on the unprofessional side. I've tried to make my feedback constructive but I won't be surprised if this ends up being removed for 'unconstructive feedback' either, if it gets spotted 🙄

Re: Random: Phil Spencer Did A "Crash Course" In N64 And PlayStation When He Joined Microsoft's Xbox Team

TromaDogg

@GrailUK The AKI wrestling games used the D-Pad to move and the control stick for taunts and poses, and so it was a bit of a pain, and a couple of FPS games like Doom 64 and Quake 64 allowed you to set a couple of functions to the D-Pad such as bringing up the map, toggling autorun on/off etc, so there were games that made use of both...but they were few and far between to be fair.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Chocobo GP

TromaDogg

I'm looking forward to this. I know it's easy for everyone to say 'Meh, I'll just stick with Mario Kart' but alternatives are always cool and I remember enjoying games like Diddy Kong Racing and Mickey's Speedway USA massively, so I wouldn't write this one off without at least giving it a go.

Re: Review: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power - A Kid-Friendly Alternative To Grimdark DC

TromaDogg

Why do some posts keep comparing this to the World's End Club review? They're 2 different games, not even vaguely similar. And reviewed by 2 different people. I get the impression that there's certain people here who took one look at the trailer for this game, decided it was trash/shovelware/whatever, clicked on this review looking for a low score to laugh at and now they're confused and don't know how to handle it because it's seemingly decent and above average. If it doesn't interest you, then fine, don't buy it. Games like CoD & Battlefield usually get higher scores than the kinds of games I like playing (mostly visual novels and niche RPGs) and you know what? I just accept that they're probably good games even though I never buy them, and that gamers into online multiplayer FPS games will probably have a good time. I nod, and I smile, and then I go back to the games I like and don't whine and complain endlessly because Modern Warfare reviewed slightly better than Code Vein. Heck, maybe you'd even enjoy this 'girl's game' if you gave it a go (although I think that idea scares a few people as well). I actually enjoy a fair few otome VN's like Code: Realize and don't feel robbed of my masculinity when I go through them 😂 I've got World's End Club, BTW. And I like it. But I don't hate this game just because I'm not the intended audience.

Re: Nintendo Wins $2.1 Million In Lawsuit Against ROM Website

TromaDogg

Just pointing out that there's a few false equivalences here already. Property Theft isn't the same thing as Copyright Infringement, nobody can just 'steal' Mario or Donkey Kong or Zelda away from Nintendo. They can potentially devalue those IPs by distributing unauthorised, illegal copies though. It's more akin to somebody buying a dirt cheap knock off Rolex watch and then not buying a real one, and Rolex counting that as a lost sale even though it's impossible to say for certain that person would ever have bought a legit Rolex. Nintendo's well within their rights to go after these sites, I understand why people sometimes resort to using them though.

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

TromaDogg

It's the greedy price tag that bothers me. I collect these things, so have to buy one before they all disappear and end up with scalpers. £25 though, or £30 from most places if you factor delivery/shipping in. The game's due out in just a few weeks, I had it preordered. Now that Nintendo's randomly announced this thing out of the blue costing almost as much as the game and giving me hardly any time to budget for it, I probably can't afford to buy Skyward Sword HD now until later on. I love Zelda. I love amiibos. But given the rubbish and almost completely unnecessary 'feature' this enables, and the hefty price tag, it does feel very much like a last minute cash grab.
