Re: Feature: Pikmin Tier List - Which Pikmin Type Is The Best?

Tourtus

Yellow pikmin are my favorite, but purple is the best for transporting items back to base and for combat. They're also the only way to harm the Water Wraith. Winged pikmin feel redundant, yellow pikmin can usually reach high areas and fight tall or flying enemies and blue pikmin can transport items through water. Plus, winged pikmin are the worst for combat.

Voted for North America/Europe for displaying all of the main characters.

I'm guessing NintendoLife used the Canadian box art here, because the U.S. copy doesn't have the "Play in English and French" sticker on it.

Re: Random: Disgruntled Splatoon 3 Fan Complains Directly To Nintendo's President About Male Poses

Tourtus

I've always considered Splatoon to be a gynocentric franchise, with all of the agent characters being female by default/in canon and the pop idols also being female with the exception of Big Man. I'm not bothered by the gynocentrism, but I'm not opposed to a more balanced representation for the franchise.

As for the bit about "Splatoon 3 doesn't assign genders to your character. Similarly to Animal Crossing: New Horizons" That seems to be the case for the English versions of the games. One example would be the Spanish version of New Horizons, which calls the male players isleño and the female players isleña. Not sure if that's the case for all versions of Splatoon.

Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered's Free Stretch-Goal DLC Is Available Now

Tourtus

@thesilverbrick I'm thinking Platinum gave this out for free because of how rocky the whole Kickstarter has been from the start, trying to get into contact with all of the backers to give them a download code would probably lead to more problems. People not receiving codes, codes not working, codes being sent to deleted email addresses etc. I'm a backer, and while I'm disappointed I ended up paying for this now free DLC, I still think this is the easiest distribution method.

Re: Reminder: Splatoon 3's Zelda-Themed Splatfest Kicks Off This Weekend

Tourtus

@Jhena That's possible, because the defending team is usually the one in the lead.

Tri-Color works by having two members of separate two teams (attacking teams) fighting one team of four members(the defending team).

If you're on the attacking team, focus on taking turf only from the defending team at first, basically until both Ultra Signals have been captured. The reason to not go after the other attacking team is because even if your attacking team scores the least, you'll still win but come in second place if the other attacking team scored the highest. Try and capture the Ultra Signal when it appears, it's basically like a giant permanent sprinkler. Only two appear during the match and help maintain turf you've taken. The main goal as an attacking team is to make sure the defending team loses. The other attacking team is like an ally, but their ink can slow you down and they can splat you. When going for an Ultra Signal try and go for it when your teammate can defend you, it takes a few seconds to activate an Ultra Signal and while activating it you cannot move or fight back. You can place a Big Bubbler around the Ultra Signal so you can't be splatted from a distance and you can capture an Ultra Signal with less risk. Booyah Bombs are also good for this since the other teams can't get close to you or your teammate while they're detonating.

As the defending team, you'll want to prevent the attacking teams from capturing the Ultra Signals, you'll also need to take turf in order to win. Best thing to do is to try and stay close to the Ultra Signal when it appears, keep it within shooting distance so you can splat the opponents who are trying to take it. Take as much turf from the attacking teams as possible but never leave the Ultra Signal unguarded for too long. It's still possible to win as a defender even if both Ultra Signals are taken but it becomes more difficult. The first Ultra Signal launched won't be too helpful for the attacking team that gets it, as it appears nearby where they spawn, but if one team gets both, the second Ultra Signal will appear in the center of the stage which is your territory. If both attacking teams each get an Ultra Signal each one will appear near their spawning point and neither Ultra Signal will appear in the center.

In Tri-Color, you can only play with one friend, but in a normal Turf War you can play with three. In Tri-Color you'll always have one partner, even as a defender, the other half of the defending team will spawn on the other side of the stage across from you. Tri-Color battles become available during the second half of the Splatfest and take up the slots where anarchy battles appear. Deep Cut will announce when you can participate in Tri-Color battles.

Hope this helps, good luck in the Splat Fest!

@Tainaru I believe Nintendo Life is British, where freedom of speech isn't an enshrined right. They're probably mostly following British hate speech laws. But it could also be this is a family website, so no slurs or swears coupled with the rules of speaking off topic or spamming keep things orderly.

Re: Site News: Love What We Do? Become A Nintendo Life Supporter!

@antdickens Personally, I think it'd push an incentive to support Hookshot Media if there were some extra tools or something for paying. The badge is a good start.

Maybe make it so paid members get to filter out article topics they don't care about, or give them priority over other comments so they always appear at the top on articles. Don't paywall existing content, make new features and paywall those. As it stands now, I'll just support by leaving ads on, even though they only work on the home page...

@Ogbert I love Code Name S.T.E.A.M. the ending had a cliff hanger so I really hope that gets a sequel! Maybe since Intelligent Systems has been doing well with Fire Emblem it can happen. Never played Ever Oasis but heard it was very good.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - escapeVektor

Tourtus

@Ogbert I can see Pushmo/Pullblox getting newer games in the future. Dillon too, Dead Heat Breakers got a physical release in Europe but was digital only in the North America so it seems like a big enough franchise to get sequels. I hope we get more Dillon games, I own the trilogy on 3DS. Sakura Samurai and Harmoknight will probably be left behind, they really felt like one off titles, which is a shame.

@tripunktoj The Gurumin themes were made free awhile ago before March. They probably stayed free until the end.

There could be more free themes but I can't see them either because like you said, once you own them you can't see their value.

I find it strange some became free so late in the day. I had bought some themes in the afternoon and they weren't free then.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - escapeVektor

I know it's on the Best 3DS Games list, but I feel Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword deserves another shout out.

It's a great little game with a charming art style. The levels are short but that makes it great for playing in short bursts. It's a challenging game, and new enemies appearing throughout the game keep things fresh. It's a fairly unique experience, I think more people should grab it.

Re: Nintendo Offering Exclusive Splatoon 3 & Zelda Pin Sets At PAX East 2023 (US)

Tourtus

@OFFICIALMichi They aren't guaranteed to cause cancer. There is a chemical or material associated with cancer within them. Prop 65 is a California law and doesn't mandate that the material or chemical be listed on the product so you can't really know how to handle them. Prop 65 also doesn't tell you how to get cancer from the material, some are only carcinogenic when ingested or inhaled and some materials are only harmful during the manufacturing process.

An example would be photosensitive resin, which is used in 3D printing. In it's liquid form, it can be harmful to breath in or to touch without gloves but once it's fully cured with UV light it becomes inert and safe to touch.

In short, these pins are most likely harmless, unless you suck on them or melt them and inhale the fumes you'll be fine.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Looking To Hire Someone With NFT Knowledge

@GrailUK The gold standard is gone in a lot of countries. The U.S. dollar used to be backed by gold and now it isn't. President Nixon was the one who changed that so it's been decades in the U.S. since our currency was backed by gold. Not sure how many other countries' currencies are still backed by gold.

NFTs and Crypto have never been backed by a tangible asset like gold, and instead their value is speculative. Supposedly, there is a set limit to how much Crypto currency can exist for some types. Bitcoin's mining limit is 21 million coins, once all 21 million coins are mined then that's supposedly all that will ever exist for that coin. No more can be mined after that. The blockchain limits how much can be mined and no one person can change the limit, you'd need the entire blockchain to change at once which should be impossible to do.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Looking To Hire Someone With NFT Knowledge

Tourtus

@Greatluigi Think of it as buying an expensive receipt, instead of buying the item listed on the receipt. NFTs don't grant ownership of the images they're tied too, they also don't grant copyrights or trademarks or other form of legal ownership. They just grant ownership of a link saying you own the item. They only ever seem to depreciate in value too after they're bought so they're a scam. Because there is no actual DRM or other copy protective measures on NFT images, anyone can copy them or download them.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Dillon's Rolling Western

Tourtus

Glad this game got a shout out, this was one of my earlier 3DS games and it's great fun! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes Tower Defense games. Very challenging to get 5 stars on every level. I also found the item collecting to be a lot of fun too, always hoping for a rare drop from grocks.

"Who doesn't want to play as a gunslinging armadillo, anyway?" Dillon doesn't use guns, which most villagers find admirable.
