Re: Grasshopper Manufacture Joins Chinese Video Game Giant NetEase

@faint TL;DR Puerto Rico would lose some of its freedoms if it became a state, and for the people of Puerto Rico that might not be a worthwhile trade off just to vote for the President. Also, cooperation is needed to make Puerto Rico a state, meaning Puerto Rico would need to vote weather or not they want statehood, the U.S. can't just make them a state if they don't want to be one.

The U.S. doesn't treat Puerto Rico like a foreign country that is to be conquered, the U.S. already owns Puerto Rico and they're allowed to govern themselves, China doesn't own Taiwan. Taiwan broke off from China in a war and are independent now, China is salty about that and wants to regain control of them. Taiwan wants to remain independent and it doesn't want to rejoin with China so they're enemies.

The U.S. fought Spain in the Caribbean and took Puerto Rico in the process, the U.S. wanted to make Puerto Rico a state but the Popular Democratic party of Puerto Rico opposed U.S. assimilation around the 1930s and voted to refuse statehood and instead become an autonomous territory. They're owned by the U.S. but they have more freedoms of self governance, if they became a proper state they'd lose some of that self governance and would be subjected to federal U.S. law. If Puerto Rico wants to become a proper state, they need to vote on that themselves, then the U.S. would need to do the same. There are talks in the U.S. about making Puerto Rico a state but again, Puerto Rico needs to participate on that project so it's not like the U.S. is oppressing them.

@Ventilator Yup, that's DRM and Anti-piracy in a nutshell. Nintendo is improving though, Switch isn't region locked like previous consoles. You can also update games if your friends have the newer version of game which will be useful in the future when/if the Switch eShop closes down and you want the bug fixes or newer features a physical game might lack.

Hopefully one day Nintendo and other companies will do away with strict DRM and Anti-piracy.

@Ventilator Oh yeah I do the same, I back up my 3DS SD card whenever I beat a game or if I make a good deal of progress in one just in case the SD card fails one day.

I do wish Nintendo wasn't so strict with digital ownership of games. I think things got better with the Switch though since games are tied to your account and you can put your account on multiple Switches. Doing what you said with the Xbox would be better since it would save time not having to download a lost game again.

@Snatcher Once the update comes out it'll be more like New Leaf but there are still a few features missing from that game. If you liked New Leaf then you'll appreciate the quality of life improvements New Horizons added like bigger inventory and terraforming, it was one of the few things they got correct at launch.

@Ventilator Well I was speaking more generally when it comes to digital games, not just on Switch.

Nah, DRM games from Steam can stop working, Nier Automata had a problem with the Mac version where it required an online check with a server, the company that hosted that server shutdown and as a result Nier Automata for Mac became unplayable. I don't know if the problem was ever fixed though...

@Ventilator When it comes to buying digital games that have DRM yeah, they're just licenses. If you buy games from GOG or Humble Bundle however, you can create backups of the game files or download them to multiple computers so even if they're servers shutdown one day, as long as I created and kept my backups, I'll forever have those games.

I pretty much buy physical every chance I get though when it comes to games, only buying digital when it's the only format a game I want is sold in.

Re: My Nintendo Now Has A Legend Of Zelda Smartphone Ring Up For Grabs

@Ks123 I've done it a few times now, I did it with the Pokemon Snap items and I saved some stuff for when I got the Mario 35th anniversary pins. So long as it's listed on the My Nintendo rewards page, the Nintendo store, the item hasn't been restocked on the My Nintendo rewards page and the code you're using isn't expired it should work. Be sure to check both the date for the the item's availability and the expiration date for the code, if either date passes your points will go to waste. Codes still work even after the item goes out of stock. It also might be safer if you redeem the code for the item and then you leave it in your cart.

As a side note, you can order an item you got in the past a second time after it is restocked since a new code is generated.

@Yosher I have a phone case with a ring built in, really helps out for when I've only got one free hand to use and hold my phone with. It doubling as a kickstand is nice too.

@Gahdrii Different countries get different rewards. Sometimes those rewards become available in new countries after awhile, I suppose it depends on what Nintendo is trying to promote at the time.

Re: My Nintendo Now Has A Legend Of Zelda Smartphone Ring Up For Grabs

Tourtus

@Markiemania95 Once you redeem your points for the code, your item, in this case the key ring, will be locked in and won't be sent to anyone else, allowing you to order it when you're ready so long as you do so before the item's availability period and code's expiration date have not passed yet. Even if all the others codes have been claimed yours will still work.

SO basically if you want you can wait and see if the controllers come back in stock and order them along with other My Nintendo items for free shipping. I've done this multiple times just to save on shipping and it hasn't failed for me.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 1.11.1 Patch Notes - More Bug Fixes

@DK-Fan Terraforming was a welcome addition, DIYs on the other hand should be scrapped in the new game. Buying furniture is so much more convenient than scrounging up resources and then building things. I say it's bare bones because it has a severe lack of furniture and clothing. Previous entries had way more items to decorate with not to mention how dull the animals have become. I remember they used to comment on things near by in New Leaf, like when you stood near an animals house they would ask if you were going to visit the owner. Or how they noticed things like if you had plants in your home. Now they just talk about the walk they're on, all day every day. Tortimer Island also being absent means far less to do with friends online. Terraforming and the QoL improvements this game has are wonderful but I can't find any reason to revisit this game, there's nothing to do.
