I've been hoping for this.

Have it on PS4 but it's a game I would much rather have on Switch. Never finished it because the grind is a bit much for me to dedicated my home gaming time to.

Would hope it releases worldwide on the 22nd of Feb rather than just Japan, if not because its my birthday then because it's a re-release, surely the vast majority of work for a worldwide release (translation) is already done.

Looking through the names of some of these games, they're daft...

Then there's Various Daylife.

Do they just have a word generator for titles these days? There's a few upcoming and already out with some pretty questionable titles, but really, Various Daylife?

I'm gonna guess it's some life sim with various activities to take part in. My money is on a farming simulator as that's pretty much what happens when somebody releases a "life sim".

@Tindre I mean, for me personally it has nothing to do with liking reading. I love books, I love reading.

I don't like visual novels though, accepting them only as a story telling means and not the meat of product. They are what they are, low cost low effort ways to tell a story when gameplay doesn't lend itself well to that. Cheaper and more efficient than animating tons of cutscenes.

To me they lack the interactivity and player input I expect from an interactive medium such as a video game. They also lack the unique experience you get from being forced to use your imagination with a book, focusing near entirely on dialogue and a few near static character images with some flappy mouths. They scrap the best parts of both mediums and offer little in return.

So going off most of the marketing for Survive largely focusing on showing off the SRPG elements I thought it was going to be a case of previous Digimon games using VN for the story. It wasn't clear how little gameplay there was other than some off hand comments in press releases Bandai knows most won't come across. I'm not paying £50 for that, I would much rather pick up a book for a fraction of the cost and for me an infinately better experience.

@Silly_G Not comparable. By that same statement, hotter countries shouldn't complain when they're hitting 10 degrees in winter as the UK regularly sees zero with no complaints.

The UK (I assume they're from) is absolutely not built for hot weather, the population aren't used to it and there's little we can do aside from set up crappy fans that don't do all that much. Anything more than that isn't cost effective as we don't get enough heat to really justify throwing the money at more effective means. If I bought an air conditioner that would actually be effective, it would probably take the next 20 years to actually get my moneys worth out of it with it being useless for about 50 weeks of the year.

It's why for example houses in the UK are built with central heating whilst, I dunno, Texas houses have air conditioning. There's various other examples but that's an easy one that should point out a massive difference...Especially when it's common people from these hotter areas don't even know what central heating is.

It's just like how when it snows here it shuts everything down. We very rarely get snow so we're not going to keep a set of snow tyres in the garage when we might not need them for 10 years.

@MaxiPareja For what, £30, £35 (or even more? Doesn't the game have even more expensive """"collectors"""" digital editions?), I would expect some rereleases of like 20 year old Megadrive games to not have as many issues as it does, even if they are minor and not game breaking.

I'm sure they're playable and I would also like to have these games on the go, but I also don't want to drop money on such overpriced old games that don't even run as intended.

I can see why certain fans are incredibly vocal. It's not like SEGA do well with modern Sonic releases, now they're dropping the ball with old classics where most of the work was already done for them.

@NinjaNicky Probably because they know people will pay it, especially with the Switch. Whether it's the selling point that it's portable or that Nintendo fans are more willing to hand over more money to have it on a Nintendo platform, who knows.

Can't say I'm not guilty of buying the "worst version" of games because I would like to play them on the go, but I at least wait for a sale where it's a price I think is decent for the particular game. Like Skyrim, would love to have it on Switch but I just can't justify buying it when the lowest I ever see it on sale is around £20-£25. Not a lot of money but it still feels like I'm being robbed.

Maybe it's time we just accept 3D Sonic games just aren't very good.

When was the last time people mostly liked a 3D Sonic game? Adventure 2? Can't remember the opinion on Heroes. Even Generations usually has a ton of "buts" that come with any praise.

Colours (which I still haven't played) and Mania, ultimately a pseudo remake of the originals, are the only games that have gotten unanimous praise...And they're 2D and 2.5D games.

Re: Feature: Just How Accessible Are Switch Games Like Xenoblade, Pokémon, And Mario Odyssey?

Tao

  • 9
  • Tao

@Vortexeo It's such a simple feature that barely any games have.

To play games cooperatively with my partner I ended up buying a smaller cheaper TV for "player 2" since coop basically requires 2 TVs and 2 monitors these days. Add in to that I wear glasses for short sightedness and I'm a gent, so I let her use the big TV.

A majority of the time, I can't read the text in games because it's too small for me on that monitor (32"?). Usually I either have to sit much closer to the TV, fumble my way through it or hope that the same text has appeared on my partners much larger screen.

I would understand if being able to increase the size of the text would change the way the game is experienced or something but I can't think of a single reasonable example where that would be the case. In 100% of games where I see this simple feature missing it seems like either an oversight or the developer not caring. Never have I been unable to alter it and thought "well, this is how the game is MEANT to be played".

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Raises The Question - How Much Do Janky Graphics Matter?

Tao

@PBandSmelly Whilst I agree the game looks shoddy, the game doesn't have "trillions in [it's] budget".

As you point out, it's the most profitable multimedia franchise worldwide. With Pokemon, the games aren't what bring in the most money. They're not going to get the biggest budget. The budget is in place based on how much profit they think they can make from a product (in this case, a game).

Do you know how many copies they would have to sell to make a return from a budget of a trillion dollars? I don't and I'm not working it out because a modern Pokemon game isn't going to sell GTAV numbers, the most profitable game ever which didn't make close to that.

All that said, I've played PS2 games that legit look better. Indie games with a fraction of their budget put out better looking games. I'm all for gameplay over graphics, but at some point we have to stop making excuses for a sub par developer producing sub par work.

Re: Nintendo's Giving Away A Set Of Awesome N64 Posters (Europe)

Tao

@smithyo I forget that points are even a thing until an article tells me I can get stuff...Then I forget about them again.

I don't use the 3DS store at all these days and I've no reason to go to the website other than getting points for the sake of having points.

It's a pretty rubbish system really. I know you can claim coins on physical versions of games, but I far prefered claiming the Club Nintendo points with previous systems. I outright forget to claim on Switch games...Though having 2 Switches means I could probably get a free game out of doing so.

Re: Best Of 2021: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

Tao

I would love Symphony of the Night since despite loving the series and finishing basically everything else, I've never gotten around to this. It's a good fit for Switch being an older Metroidvania.

I would also say Yakuza. I loved what I played of them BUT it goes alongside me saying I would love any heavily story/dialogue focused game to be on Switch. There's a damn lot of dialogue in Yakuza from what I experienced and these days when I'm at home playing a game, I want to be PLAYING the game, not reading/listening to dialogue and watching cutscenes.

As an example, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 being on Switch is the only reason I've managed to near finish it. It's such a slog of near constant dialogue and cutscenes that I just couldn't have gotten through it if I wasn't playing it here and there on my work breaks. I would have sold the game if I HAD to play it at home during my downtime because most of my gaming time spent not actually playing the game is frustrating at best.

Re: Bandai Announces Worldwide 'Digimon Con' Broadcast - Airing In February 2022

Tao

@Brydontk As much as I enjoy Story, I've always got my fingers crossed for World on a Nintendo handheld.

The World games scratch a certain itch that Pokemon just doesn't which pushes Digimon into the number 1 spot of my favorite monster friend franchise. Story is moreso just another JRPG to me, though with a paint job I adore.

Re: Random: This $10 Nintendo Switch eShop Game Has Suddenly Shot Up To A Whopping $250

Tao

@MrGrim I dunno, I imagine the publishers "type in" the percentage discount on digital stores and the store sorts does the calculation for discount price automatically rather than having to work out and type in all the new prices themselves.

At least, that makes sense to how it would work in my mind. I don't know how the pricing actually works...Given it's the eShop though, a Nintendo platform specifically, they probably have a totally insane, backwards and inefficient way of doing it.

Re: Dragon Ball: The Breakers Is A Seven-Against-One Online Multiplayer Game Coming To Switch

Tao

I have absolutely no interest in Dragonball Z these days...But the title had me intrigued, that is, until I found out it's just a Dragonball Z version of Dead by Daylight.

I was expecting this to be the part of a series (pick any, they all do the same shtick) where all the useless characters like Yamcha, Tien and Krillen try to survive, fend off and buy time until whatever OP character comes to roll the credits (probably Goku) or maybe given continuity doesn't matter since it's just a game, whittle the villain down and beat him themselves.

Re: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Gets New 'Very Easy' Difficulty Option

Tao

I'm a person who avoids the majority of horror games because they are just too much for me, largely because of the enemies who can and will kill me. I struggled through Resi 4 when it first came out and the best I've done since then is like the first 20 minutes of a horror game knowing it was before any enemies actually show up. I love the idea of most of them but I'll never actually play 'em, I don't own enough spare underwear to do that.

That said: I don't understand the appeal of this at all either. At this point, they're just walking simulators that weren't designed to be walking simulators, thus will also likely be missing any of the design choices that would make a walking simulator more than just a joke.

I think people just need to start accepting not everything needs to be made for them. If I see a horror game, I just don't play it because it isn't intended for me. Spending however much money to kind of not even play the game sounds ridiculous when if all I want is the story, YouTube provides about the same experience as what is basically God mode.

But hey, it ain't my money. Just my two cents and if you're happy to pay for this, happy for you. I just don't get it though, even as somebody this should probably appeal to.

Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

Tao

@NIN10DOXD I honestly remember nothing about the game beyond some of the new Pokemon designs were cool, a few new trainer/NPC designs were cool and I really liked the gym battle music. Otherwise the game was so unmemorable that if I picked it up and started a new game, it would feel new to me.

Not exactly a glowing review considering I say I enjoyed the game...Kudos to the art and sound team I guess.

Re: YouTube Is Hiding The Dislike Count, Good News For Switch Online's Video Team

Tao

This in turn basically makes the like button redundant for those simply there to watch videos.

I'll often make decisions to whether or not a video is worth watching based on that ratio because I find it a somewhat accurate indicator of that, especially with a new channel I haven't seen or for content I'm not familiar with (such as if I'm looking for how to do a certain task). If I'm only ever going to see the like button, why would I bother with it at all?

1,000 people liked this video? 10,000? 100,000? That means nothing to me without a comparison of how many didn't.

1 million people liked this video showing you how to bake a cake! But what you can't see is that 100 million people disliked it because the instructions in the video will make you violently sick.

Re: GTA Trilogy Fans Aren't Happy With Some Of The Changes In The 'Definitive' Remaster

Tao

@broskiplays "make me sick". Nice pathetic sounding exaggeration there. Bit dramatic for me thinking it looks bad and saying it looks bad.

I don't care that it's on a Nintendo platform for the first time to be quite honest, it's also on Playstation and looks equally bad despite it being far more capable. Whether it's now on a Nintendo system for the first time, I'll sleep the same regardless.

I'm also happy a lot of the time, I just think that this remaster falls short in a lot of areas. If I feel the original looks better in many regards then the remaster has failed.

Most of what your saying is just complaining that people don't gobble up everything a developer plops out. If a product doesn't meet expectations, I'm not going to give it glowing unconditional praise. Especiallt for a series like GTA that is so popular and successful, guaranteed to print money from a company that does everything it can to maliciously swindle their customers, they can do better.

Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

Tao

They say they "get it", but I don't think they do with the criticism they're focusing on.

I enjoyed Sword and Shield enough, but I can't pretend it didn't feel like it was a console generation or two behind in terms of presentation and gameplay.

The only parts of the game that left a lasting impression for me had nothing to do with the direct gameplay (Pokemon designs and soundtrack).

Re: Blizzard Outlines Plans To Rename Popular Overwatch Character

Tao

I don't see what changing the name will achieve. I thought for the longest time that it was just a generic cowboy name...Because it is.

Should have just kept it and distanced from the actual person. If anything, this is only going to draw more attention given I guarantee the vast majority of people didn't know he was named after somebody in the first place...or maybe that's the point, to draw attention to how cool and loving ActiBlizzard are wretchs.

Re: Dark Horse Appears To Have Cancelled The ARMS Graphic Novel Series

Tao

Not surprising.

It launched as a glorified tech demo and they later added the content to qualify it as a bare bones fighting game. No worthwhile single player content, very repetitive gameplay, lack of support from Nintendo, an absurd price tag for what it was.

I wanted to like it because the roster is colourful and unique, but it's really no surprise there's not enough interest in the franchise for endeavours like this to be worthwhile.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

Tao

@JimmySpades Well here's a big businessman tip for you on the house, my good bootlicking friend:

When people are willing to buy something, especially when that something is a lazy port of something you've already sold and cashed in on, don't stop selling it or you'll stop getting money from it as well as lose out on consumer good will.

Don't tell anybody though, that's a big industry secret.

Re: Random: Oops, Super Nintendo World's Cactus Seems To Be Lifted From A Fan-Made Game

Tao

It's not "just a cactus" though, is it. By the logic being used by some here, I could draw that cactus Pokemon and claim as my own under the logic of "Nintendo don't own cactuses". There's countless ways to draw anything and the more stylised it becomes, the more specific to an IP THAT version of something is.

If it were a cactus for a random thing nobody has heard of 50 pages into an image search, sure, that could be a coincidence. It isnt though, it's a distinct design for a Mario game mod taken and used for a Mario theme park. It isn't like they've stolen a cactus from an obscure 60's movie where coincidence could actually be claimed.

Re: Soapbox: Since When Did Physical Releases Stop Being About Physical Games?

Tao

@SwitchForce Yes, they could just decide to remove a game but the likelihood is, they won't. Any publisher who did that outside of reasons linked to expired licensing or it being an online multiplayer only game nobody plays anymore are basically shooting themselves in the foot. People will just stop buying games from a publisher if that's a risk they show they're fully capable of doing.

Like it or not, physical copies are generally becoming less worthwhile with what they actually offer. Even Nintendo games aren't complete on release anymore without a few content patches, which only seems to be getting worse. This biggest argument for physical copies (they can never takem away from me!) doesn't seem like a great argument when that physical copy holds a buggy copy of the game with half the content missing.

I mean, look at the state of Animal Crossing New Horizons. The game itself is fine, but you may as well put the worthless physical copy in the trash

Re: XIII Remake's Launch On PS4 Doesn't Give Us Much Hope For The Switch Release

Tao

I never got the chance to play the original back in the day so was looking forward to this.

That said, I might have to pass. I'm not one to prioritize looks over gameplay but for a game that was so well known for its unique and timeless artstyle designed specifically to look like and take inspiration from the source, it seems like a massive oversight for the remake to have such a generic and forgettable look to it. If I was told this is a new Overwatch character or Fortnite skin I would have believed it, as opposed to the original where I've never even played it yet could pick out a screenshot from it without context.

To me, such a misjudgment on the artstyle comes across as a potential red light for how they've handled other aspects of the game seeing as the artstyle would be an obvious thing to definitely keep but just refine.

Re: Spiritual Successor To "Underrated And Misunderstood" Zelda II Could Be Switch-Bound

Tao

@impurekind I dunno, I thought a spiritual successor would have some of the original team who don't want to or can't work on the original IP anymore for whatever reason, but still want to make games like that.

I thought something that involves none of the original team would just be called a clone, knock off or copy, otherwise so many games would just be spiritual successors.

Re: SNK Apologises For "Offensive Ad" Featuring Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard

Tao

I don't see the issue. He slaps their butts then proceeds to fall of his bike and be confronted by the disapproving looking girls who also look like their about to kick his teeth in before the ad ends.

Now, if he slapped their butts and they awkwardly accepted that he had done it or there were a bunch of other male KoF/FF characters up the street that gave him high fives, I would understand. It wasn't though, the actions weren't even condoned in this crap ad.

The only issue I see is that it's a typical crappy phone ad that tries to be funny but isn't, like all of them.

Re: "AAA-Quality" Parkour Game Ghostrunner Is Looking Fantastic On Switch

Tao

I can't say anything about the artstyle. I've always loved this sort of Cyberpunk artstyle and glad that the popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 has brought more of this up.

Otherwise this trailer didnt sell me at all. It was a dull, boring, typical indie style trailer that knocks me to sleep the moment it starts.

For a game seemingly focusing its marketing on parkour it showed very little of it and what was there I've seen before in games like Mirrors Edge or Titanfall 2.

There's clearly combat there too unless the sword is just for show, so why have I come away from this having no idea about that presumably large aspect of the game?

Seems like a nothing special game with a setting/artsyle I like being the only real selling point. Granted, it's good given this sort of gameplay is rare to come by, but it hasnt grabbed me the way it should have.
