Re: Post-Apocalyptic RPG Biomutant Is Officially Coming To Switch

Takoda

I’m actually looking forward to trying this, if the port is good. My laptop just can’t really handle the game so a switch port that looks halfway decent would be nice, and well, open world games are my comfort zone, so I think even if it’s a bit dull it might be relaxing, who knows.

Re: Soapbox: Torna - The Golden Country Is One Of The Best DLCs Of All Time

Takoda

@Judal27 Kind of interesting/glad to see someone else mentioning XC3 not living up to expectations and then comparing it back to 2. Always feel like 3 gets praised into the high heavens while I found more flaws in the narrative than I found in 2s.

It's weird how 2 had so many kinks to it that made it tumble further and further down compared to the original for me, but then in comparison to XB3 I think XB2 and Torna were better experiences even with whatever flaws the narrative and gameplay had. I'm trying to give XB3 another chance to see if it can have a little redemption arc in my eyes, but I just have so many better things to play that weren't a huge letdown in terms of story and gameplay. Either way, looking forward to future redeemed to maybe change my mind on that tomorrow.

Re: Sega Explains Why Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Costs $80

Takoda

It’s Atlus, this will get a sale down the line that’ll make it much more bearable. People, the etrian idyssey titles on 3ds got a permanent price cut years after their release making them ten euros each, and sales galore all the time. Just saying, it’s a matter of time before you can buy this for a more reasonable price. I’m just overjoyed that Etrian Odyssey III is finally going to be playable without scouring around second-hand markets or paying a hefty sum.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - escapeVektor

Takoda

I really wanted to throw more money at it, but I gotta be real, the 3ds isn't something I play enough to go full price for some of the games, especially as a student. So yeah, got the good sales, the rest I can get on a modded 3DS if I really need to.

Re: Countdown: Wii U eShop Spotlight - Duck Hunt

Takoda

One of those classics that can safely die off for me. Never had even an ounce of interest in it. It’s a piece of history, and so I’ll let it stay in the past. But for whoever likes this, good on you, hope you can get it.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Wins 'Best RPG' At Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2022

Takoda

Well, with only three to choose from, then yeah, I guess it wins easily, even coming from a person who disliked Xenoblade 3 in a lot of ways. But when you see stuff like ‘best character: Arven’ with hecking Kirby being an option, then you lose all my respect quickly xD Whatever the awards are worth, that makes the entire thing look like a joke. Best scenario for pokemon? Will you be here all week?

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Nintendo Pocket Football Club

Takoda

I really, really like this one, but it just gets too repetitive with too little progress being made, but I still want to one day sit down, make an amazing team and just beat it all the way through. Just would take some dedication. Just like I'm trying a pokemon brilliant diamond nuzlocke and it's taking effort to stay focused on it.

Re: Review: Metroid Fusion - An Infectious, Portable Pleasure

Takoda

Ah, my favorite metroid game. The atmosphere is just so well done and for me, none of the other metroid games do it better than fusion. I guess that's also thanks to the linearity which allows for natural buildup and memorable setpieces. I'd often hear how super is the best one because of the 'non-lineair spirit' of metroid, but that's never done much for me. Like, sure, the shortcuts and sequence breaks are cool, but that's not what makes a metroid game to me. That'd be the atmosphere, the natural-feeling progression via upgrades, the bosses and in the more recent entries the smooth as butter controls. I guess it helps that I vastly prefer narrative over just straight-faced gameplay, and Fusion managed to pull of both really well for me.

Re: 50 Best Nintendo Switch Games So Far

Takoda

I’ll forever be in the camp that puts Xenoblade 3 below even a top 10 on switch because of how much of a letdown it was and how I just don’t see why everyone calls it a masterpiece. I have finished the entire game, just to be clear, and the other two entries just stuck with me way more, plus just as a narrative by itself it doesn’t carry out its potential. But do I think it belongs in the top 50? Hard to say no to that, it is still quality. I have pretty much everything on this list so I’m good, having just bought metroid prime. Looking forward to that.

Re: Sonic Veteran Takashi Iizuka Is Taking On Executive Officer Role At Sega

Takoda

@DripDropCop146 You can have your own opinion on this, as can the other guy who tagged me, but to you in particular I do think I need to clarify that it's serious TONE and melodrama I don't mind. How they WROTE that seriousness and melodrama before? I mean, come on, I'm not going to defend Sonic 06 for example. But look at Sonic colors and Sonic Lost World. There you go, that's Sonic, slapping an egg, doing his silly thing, but that writing was horrendous and cringe-worthy far more so than Sonic 06 ever got for me. (Animal kissing aside, that deserves a special spot.) Sonic Lost World was somehow the worst of both, the simple moments were cringe and the serious moments just came and went out of nowhere.

We can argue all day about what kind of Sonic we prefer honestly, that's up to preference. I'd vastly prefer a story than none at all. I think the old classic games are okay at best, and that the storybook series gave a good look at how I enjoy Sonic being portrayed, even if the gameplay wasn't my thing. But the writing in the recent games, I think we can safely agree that's been a mess, and Frontiers was a step in the right direction with some high moments but it ain't perfect or anything. I'm just praying we don't take another step back on that front no matter if it's 2D, 3D or whatever else they cook up.

Still, I think just having both would be the way to go to keep everyone happy. You could stick with 2D simpleness with a focus on gameplay and I'd have my preference of a more story-focused experience regardless of serious or silly vibe.
We'll see what we end up getting, I'll be happy as long as it's quality or they use Frontiers or Mania to improve upon.

Re: Sonic Veteran Takashi Iizuka Is Taking On Executive Officer Role At Sega

Takoda

Looking at these comments you really see why sonic has such a crazy ride tonally. Some people like the melodrama and serious tone (I do, in fact), some want sonic to be all silly and gameplay-first.
We have characters for that nowadays, honestly. We have classic sonic and we have modern sonic. We have mania and frontiers. They both deliver quite well on what they’re supposed to and I enjoyed playing both. It gives the opportunity to develop games on both ends of the spectrum. Frontiers and mania have proven the strengths of both approaches. The IDW comics have shown more than anything really that a serious sonic story can work wonders.

I’ll just be happy with anything that is well-written, and Frontiers was. The serious tone or silly tone hardly matters as long as it’s done well.

Re: Sonic Veteran Takashi Iizuka Is Taking On Executive Officer Role At Sega

Takoda

I loved Sonic Frontiers and I know Sonic will always get the good dose of negativity, but I'm just waiting and seeing what comes down the pipeline in the future. I'd say Sonic is doing just fine, with the frankly great second movie, Sonic Prime (which I disliked but it's something) and Sonic Frontiers DLC looking promising-ish.

Re: Rumour: 'Pokémon Together' Website Has Fans Hopeful For New Mystery Dungeon

Takoda

@jowe_gv The gameplay I’d say has definitely improved since then. But I think the premise and the twists of the story were handled really well. Now, the writing… oof, the writing in sky could do with some improvement here and there, I do remember the partner especially being just written rather dull, though their arc is okay-ish.
Going back to Pearl myself the HMs are such a drag for me, haha. Definitely understand that.

Re: Rumour: 'Pokémon Together' Website Has Fans Hopeful For New Mystery Dungeon

Takoda

I’d love a new one or a remake of explorers of sky, but I feel like since the jump to 3d models these titles have lost a lot of the charm they once had, and the stories aren’ really up to snuff anymore either, nostalgia or not. So I’d be excited, but I doubt it’d ever have an impact on me like explorers of sky had, showing what you can do with pokemon besides the same old same old.

Re: Review: Life Is Strange 2 - A Solid Switch Port For This Thrilling Second Story

Takoda

@Clyde_Radcliffe I've never played these games but this is kind of the vibe I got from back when they were still new games and there was a lot of hype around them. I like narrative games, but just looking at small excerpts and short gameplay videos gave me slight annoyances with how the characters act. I wonder if I'd change my mind actually playing them, but there's too many other games in the backlog with more interesting looking stories to take that risk for now.

Re: The Pokémon Company Reveals Plans To "Sunset" Pokémon TCG Online

Takoda

I played it for a good while, even got slightly addicted to it at one point, but it gets boring after a while when there's zero interaction, and you can't really learn much from the tutorials when it comes to deck building, you have to go online to find out that stuff. Even then, with the meta constantly changing, it gets a bit much for me, because of the randomness of the pulls. The meta in a fighting game is fine when everyone has access to the same thing, in a card game, it's throw money at it or drag behind because the only way to get more cards without spending money is by winning, and what do you need to win? Better cards, or at least the ones that allow you to win in the current meta... so after a while I just focused on pre-made decks and playing irl. It's more fun that way, I get more out of it than just a 'victory' on a screen with an empty feeling.

Re: Life Is Strange 2 Brings More Magical Realism To Switch Next Month

Takoda

Never tried any of the other games, don’t feel any more compelled to try this one. They all just come over so… predictable and bland, for some reason. From what I’ve seen of the characters I’d probably get bored before I finish it. The ports not being any good just adds on top. I didn’t even know that there was a sequel, haha, I thought true colours or whatever it was was the next entry they made.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden?

Takoda

Been emulating Persona 3 FES and will probably play P3P on my switch for the Femc experience, since I do have a soft spot for P3’s atmosphere, where P4 and P5 look like better games but the atmosphere didn’t grab onto me as much. I’ll just play 3, then 4, then 5, and then I can finally play Q and Q2 without feeling like I’m missing all the context : P
