The remakes were the worst I've seen in a while. Less so because the games were horrendous to play through, but just because they can do so much better than that and just didn't. When your remakes have less content than the definitive version on the DS, there's literally zero reason to buy them. If it wasn't pokémon, things would probably look different.
That aside, I am hopeful for once. Legends Arceus and Snap were some of the best pokémon experiences I've had in recent years with how middling all the other games were before them, so I hope scarlet and violet keep it going, even when these baby steps towards better games are embarrassing for a company like this.
I played it, liked it, even had a few of those ‘AHA!’ moments where it all clicked. Despite that, I just didn’t vibe with the style and the mystery that much, meaning I lost interest close to the end of the game. Still finished it and it was an unique experience, at least!
It’s as with most things in life: it’s a bit of both. Everything in moderation and all that. Video games have amazing potential to be healing in ways other mediums might not for some people, but they can potentially be harmful too. It’s just important that both the good and the bad get attention, not just one or the other. I think the article touches nicely on that, quite a nice read. As someone studying psychology I’m always glad to see one of these pop up when all I get in my courses is ‘What research says about video games being tied to aggression’.
I tried Earthbound on the wii u back in the day and though I’d heard lots of good things about it and I didn’t dislike the combat and vibe at all, there was nothing that kept me all that interested. The beginning wasn’t as much frustrating as it was just boring to me. Having to backtrack so dang much got me really bored of seeing the same places over and over, especially when it came to needing healing items and having to walk aaaall the way back for them. The humour and vibe also just weren’t anything exceptional. I fully agree with the point they make here, about how it probably hit way different back in the day and now we have more welcoming alternatives that use eartbound’s style.I tried Mother 3 and I really want to see what else that game has to offer so I think that’s the one for me.
Had the exact same ad making the rounds in Belgium a while ago! It's pretty much the same ad, just with a different flag and currency. They were pretty thorough in their scheme too, having people put fake comments so that it'd look as if they actually got a switch. Any comment trying to call them out was deleted within seconds too. Hope it stops soon, I got sick of them flooding my sight while scrolling around.
@Fizza A lot of people give SS flack for the motion controls but I was always quite a fan of the idea to move the controller as a sword. It has my favourite dynamic between Link and Zelda too! Hope you'll have a good time with it!
@Fizza Holy moly, yeah, it's a TERRIBLE place to start off for Zelda, since most of the other games aren't at all multiplayer focused. I could just brush it off as an 'alright co-op experiment' because I had the amazing Link between worlds on the 3DS to show me what 2D zelda is all about. I'm glad 2D Zelda had a little redemption arc for you then, I think most of the 2D games are great fun.
The 3D ones are pretty hit or miss for me personally, but that's besides the point.
@Fizza Eh, most people might have forgotten about it altogether since it didn't really take off. I never played it myself but it was quite the charming little experiment from the videos I watched on it, so I wouldn't mind if that gets ported over or gets a sequel. Would be pretty fun local and online co-op.
I apparently got this three days early since I randomly saw it in the store and didn't realise it wasn't supposed to be there yet. Pretty good game with surprisingly catchy music sometimes.
@Mauzuri Wow, I've rarely seen anyone react THAT negatively to DQ11, usually most people say it's pretty good to amazing. I'm not a big fan of dragon quest myself but I'm curious too what your experience was like.
I'm pretty interested in this one, even though I can see myself getting bored of it lightning quick. I just love nature taking over abandoned places, makes me want to explore even though that isn't what this game is about.
Yep, looks about right. I'd put Persona 5S second though, and most of the other ones I haven't played because of how terribly reptitive these games get without something to drive me forward. I tried one of the samurai titles and found it dreadful to play, but AoC, P5S and One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 showed me this style of game can totally be my thing. I even 100%'ed AoC to my own great surprise! Definitely more hit than miss but when they hit, it's a glorious time.
For me it's shiren the wanderer on switch. Was about to lose interest but finally figured out the gameplay loop and now I'm stuck in again, this time determined to see it through.
Age of calamity was definitely the best one for me, never knew I could enjoy a musou that much since I tended to avoid the genre before AoC came along and changed my mind. Persona 5 strikers was pretty good too.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #98 - Super Mario Strikers
They’re both good, but I think NA/JP just looks cooler overall and sells the chaotic energy better.

Guacamelee 2 and Kao the kangaroo when I’m not busy studying for my nearing exams.

Doesn't look terrible, but also nothing to get super excited for. Hope it ends up good but it gives me a very 'average' vibe.

Niiice, I'll have to wait a little longer since my subscription ran out a bit ago, but very glad there'll be a demo to see if this is for me.
