Re: Miyamoto Thanks Fans For Watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

SurprisedRobinChu

@SuperBro64 That term really has evolved and is used for everything. Heck, my staunch conservative parents are even using it for older films that they grew up with, even though I've seen them as a kid and didn't see anything wrong with them. And I'm taking about old black/white films.

It's really overblown.

Old age and politics is a hell of a drug overdose.

Re: Review: Pokémon Champions (Switch) – The Most Accessible & Flawed Competitive Pokémon Has Ever Been

SurprisedRobinChu

As an old school gamer, I'm extremely disappointed that Champions made it so easy to essentially generate your own Pokemon without any work.

Back in my day, the commitment was worth it because the Pokemon you're training EVs/IVs for competitive meant you would put your heart and soul into making the best team.

I found it fun to strategize the team's moveset through selective breeding, the excitement upon getting a rare Pokemon with a hidden ability through Wonder Trade (especially if it was shiny), and the satisfaction of IV training with Pokerus and seeing those numbers go up with each level.

I had over 900 hours on Alpha Sapphire and had several Boxes of battle-ready Pokemon all from my other DS and 3DS games (and some GBA), all of which were used for either the Battle Tower or online competitive play.

I thought uploading my team to Pokemon HOME was worth the sacrifice, in maybe one day Game Freak making a true online competitive game outside of the main franchise.

WTF happened with Champions?

This game is soulless trash, turning hard-earned Pokemon into cheap duplicate copies It robs the experience of the entire game, disrespecting what made battling fun. There are no fond memories of raising them from an egg or the joy of testing out their battling capabilities.
It's like using AI to generate your team. I am beyond disgusted.

Sure, generating your Pokemon with the best moves, abilities, EVs saves time, but some of us enjoyed investing that time in raising your favorite Pokemon and appreciating the EVs/IVs mechanics.

This game is simply a cash-grab and Game Freak does not respect the past. I expect ''Winds and Waves'' to be the same.

Enjoy your hollow game. This will neither give me fun nor satisfaction. I'm going back to the better games.

@thedicemaster False advertising? Nothing inappropriate for children???

I can almost imagine a little child asking their Mom what the word HENTAI means? But kids have phones and AI to talk to, no need to talk to parents! Just bring up the images on their devices to get the big picture!

I would think sexual words are inappropriate, ya dunce!

Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

SurprisedRobinChu

@daniruy The best way I can describe using AI in either writing or art process is like cheating in Pokemon.

I once had an Action Replay for the DS and I used the walk-through-walls cheat, unlimited Masterballs and Rare Candies, and the ability to win every battle. However, later on it made me feel empty inside and it took a while for me to go back to the game without relying on cheats.

Using AI for creative purposes is just like that.

It leaves me unsatisfied.

@axelhander 'AI is a fantastic tool for brainstorming'

The shear ignorance in this comment is amazing. Advocating generative AI for "brainstorming" is like compensating to make up the lack of an imagination for a smooth brain.

Using AI as a tool for art is the ultimate crutch. It takes years for artists to hone their craft. There are no shortcuts, much like in life. Practice makes perfect. Try to challenge yourself.

"AI Art" will never be accepted by real artists. Might as well surround yourself with yes-men chatbots, if you haven't already.

Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

Here's the thing that most people have yet to grasp.

Generative AI is the ultimate stealing tool. It searches deep into the internet, taking every and all piece of art from every person throughout history, past and present. DeviantArt, ArtStation, etc.

This also goes with books, music, videos, pictures of people, etc, etc. Any form of media. Even our chat messages.

Every talented artist, whether for business or hobby has had their artwork scanned without permission by AI tools and added into it's vast algorithm and they were not compensated in any way. Is this OK with AI enthusiasts? Doesn't seem legal or fair.

Since there are seemingly no laws on how to govern this new AI technology, companies are reacting as it's the gold rush and feel they are totally allowed for AI to take everything they see and then sell it as slop.

If a human person stole massive amounts of data, if caught they would go to jail for life. But it's OK for companies that uses AI not met with any repercussions at all because AI is just a tool and not a person?

This is why people are against AI in general, because many of these generated images, in one way or another, have been stolen from people like us. For this reason, it is a human right to opposed to AI in any shape or form.

The Borg from Star Trek is much like AI, who assimilate all into its collective. At least they have the decency to let you know ahead of time when they are going to assimilate you.

Re: ICYMI: More Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC News Is Coming Our Way Tomorrow

SurprisedRobinChu

I feel as though this DLC should have been available in the base game from the beginning. Without it, the game is very barebones.

There is a reason why paid DLC is being released shorty after the game launched. The franchise is now a cash cow for Nintendo. How long before they start implementing AI generation into their games?

I wouldn't be surprised if this will be the future of all Pokemon games. These game will always be incomplete, but first you got to pay for basic features later on!
