Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

SurprisedRobinChu

@daniruy The best way I can describe using AI in either writing or art process is like cheating in Pokemon.

I once had an Action Replay for the DS and I used the walk-through-walls cheat, unlimited Masterballs and Rare Candies, and the ability to win every battle. However, later on it made me feel empty inside and it took a while for me to go back to the game without relying on cheats.

Using AI for creative purposes is just like that.

It leaves me unsatisfied.

@axelhander 'AI is a fantastic tool for brainstorming'

The shear ignorance in this comment is amazing. Advocating generative AI for "brainstorming" is like compensating to make up the lack of an imagination for a smooth brain.

Using AI as a tool for art is the ultimate crutch. It takes years for artists to hone their craft. There are no shortcuts, much like in life. Practice makes perfect. Try to challenge yourself.

"AI Art" will never be accepted by real artists. Might as well surround yourself with yes-men chatbots, if you haven't already.

Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

SurprisedRobinChu

Here's the thing that most people have yet to grasp.

Generative AI is the ultimate stealing tool. It searches deep into the internet, taking every and all piece of art from every person throughout history, past and present. DeviantArt, ArtStation, etc.

This also goes with books, music, videos, pictures of people, etc, etc. Any form of media. Even our chat messages.

Every talented artist, whether for business or hobby has had their artwork scanned without permission by AI tools and added into it's vast algorithm and they were not compensated in any way. Is this OK with AI enthusiasts? Doesn't seem legal or fair.

Since there are seemingly no laws on how to govern this new AI technology, companies are reacting as it's the gold rush and feel they are totally allowed for AI to take everything they see and then sell it as slop.

If a human person stole massive amounts of data, if caught they would go to jail for life. But it's OK for companies that uses AI not met with any repercussions at all because AI is just a tool and not a person?

This is why people are against AI in general, because many of these generated images, in one way or another, have been stolen from people like us. For this reason, it is a human right to opposed to AI in any shape or form.

The Borg from Star Trek is much like AI, who assimilate all into its collective. At least they have the decency to let you know ahead of time when they are going to assimilate you.

Re: ICYMI: More Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC News Is Coming Our Way Tomorrow

SurprisedRobinChu

I feel as though this DLC should have been available in the base game from the beginning. Without it, the game is very barebones.

There is a reason why paid DLC is being released shorty after the game launched. The franchise is now a cash cow for Nintendo. How long before they start implementing AI generation into their games?

I wouldn't be surprised if this will be the future of all Pokemon games. These game will always be incomplete, but first you got to pay for basic features later on!

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

SurprisedRobinChu

@Bats1234 This is not the reason. The major difference is that you are their prisoner. The full game is on your console and you cannot play it without it the key. Meanwhile, you have all of this bloat on your storage and cannot access it. The Switch 2 already has limited storage and these games can take up a lot of space.

This is not an issue with digital. The full game is can be accessed at anytime. You just don't have a physical game case for your collection.

Game's with the full data on the cartridge save the console's limited storage, and you can show off your physical gaming collection to your friends.

With Game-Key-Cards as a "physical game", you're only showing off to your fellow inmates.

I swear, people who support GKCs have Stockholm syndrome.

Re: Square Enix Hit By Mass Layoffs As Part Of Global Restructuring

SurprisedRobinChu

Does anyone remember years ago that these big companies once clarified that AI will only help make jobs easier, assist them during work, and create more jobs?

LMAO! They knew the truth all along. Well, I for one won't be buying anything from Square Enix anymore.

Enjoy AI all you want, but it's the people who get to decide to purchase the games and I'm very quite sure in years to come there will be backlash from this and a sharp decline in their sales.

Power to the people!

Re: Nintendo Is Preparing For Even More Movies In The Future, Unsurprisingly

SurprisedRobinChu

@StewdaMegaManNerd I would, and not some overused overpaid American actor with a super bland voice.

It's almost as if (New) Nintendo is ashamed of Mario's iconic voice, but cannot change it or risk damaging their sales in future games. The Old Nintendo would definitely keep his voice and not think for a second to alter it.

I think Mario speaking in his usual Italian accent, while in a emotionally dramatic moment in a film, would be epic. Have you ever watched The Departed? Nintendo missed out big time.

Are you embarrassed by Mario by any chance?

Re: Opinion: Pokémon Legends Z-A Is The Creepiest Entry Yet, Not In A Good Way

SurprisedRobinChu

Can we agree now that modern Pokemon titles are just bland? There were a few that were gems (Arceus) but the rest really show a considerable lack of innovation.

Sure these games were made for kids in mind (as well as babies) and not adults who grew up with the games since Red/Blue. But this is no excuse!

Even games like Assassin's Creed 1 shows more "bustling" in cities, and that game was made nearly 20 years ago!

Re: Game-Key Cards A "Sales Strategy Decision", Says Resident Evil Requiem Director

SurprisedRobinChu

@Shepdawg1 You do realize that the full game would be on your console, which already has few storage space to begin with (256gb) and the only way to play those games is with the key.

Without it or if you manage to lose it, can't play those games anymore and you're locked out.

Going Digital is liberating. Physical means at the very least you own your games. Game Key Cards? You are their prisoner.

Re: Preview: Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Combat Shines Brightly, But Its Visuals Are Still Dull

SurprisedRobinChu

Even if Nintendo makes a Switch 2 Pro or even a newer console, the visuals of these Pokemon games will always remain low with the same reused assets and animations and watered-down story.

Why?

Because these games are geared towards children and kids don't care about graphics, only gameplay. Adults like us who grew up with Pokemon (and me, the original games) are not the target focus. Nintendo is basically asking us to "grow up" and move on and let our kids enjoy it.

Still, I would've like to have seen Pokemon utilizing Unreal Engine 5 or maybe even VR.

Re: "I Have No Words" - Silksong Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over One Bench

SurprisedRobinChu

I knew this was going to happen.

Silksong had been in development for years and everyone had been hyping up the game ever since it was announced.

For a while, Silksong was in the same category like Half-Life 3 for the most anticipated mythic games that did not have a release date yet.

Now the cat's out of the bag.

The fans response? OUTCRY
Why, these fanatic fans have been waiting patiently for years and the game has this?! (insert issue here)

In the end, Silksong is just a game. Of course causal gamers are going to have a hard time because the game has Dark Souls-like mechanics, but they forgot its something it's predecessor had as well.

Team Cherry wanted to make a more challenging game after Hollow Knight. They didn't really account for casuals, nor did they have the time to make an "easy" mode, if the game was to release at all. If they made the game too easy, they would also be criticized. It seems no one will be satisfied.

I think people are just upset because they have been waiting a long time and magically assumed this game was going to be perfect in every way to justify their impatience.

Re: Nintendo's Patent On 'Sub Characters' Could Have Some Dire Ramifications

SurprisedRobinChu

As someone who grew up watching the original Pokemon show (back when it was called a cartoon and not anime) and played the first games on the Game Boy DMG, it's a weird sensation but I don't like what Nintendo has done to Pokemon and left a bad taste of how I feel for the franchise from now on.

I don't think I'll be playing any future Pokemon games any time soon. Legends Arceus was the only good one Pokemon game for the Switch. Personally, I was hoping for something mature and well developed like Pokemon Back/White 2. The other games after just didn't hit that mark and felt too childish (yes, I know it's geared towards children, but I was a kid once Black/White 2 released and that generation was awesome).

There wasn't anything old Pokemon gamers like myself could play and be satisfied with. Then I discovered romhacks and how the community brought back that magic and original love of Pokemon that I used to have, something I feel Nintendo has lost through their pursuit greed. The best part? The community has made this all for free.

Call it pirating or whatever. I personally own all of the games. Nintendo got their money. You can't deny that fans and the community make Pokemon games better than the company itself.
