Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Has "A Ton Of Respect" For Nintendo, But Is Over Rumours About Select Titles Coming To Switch

Spike6958

@Alpha-2002 Honestly, a big reason behind it was that the 360 titles like Nuts & Bolts were often used as reasons why Rare Replay couldn't come to Switch because they are simply the 360 versions running via emulation, and not full ports to the Xbox One.
People started responding to that reasoning with "well I'd rather have there Nintendo exclusive games in the collection over them anyway", not understanding that it would probably be just as much work to get those Nintendo titles onto the Switch as it would be to get the 360 games onto it and that Nintendo would probably never let their games be put onto another studios collection, even if it's exclusive to there system because they probably want to keep them, especially the DKC Trilogy, to slowly drop onto the SNES Online app.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Leads Nintendo's Nominations For The Game Awards 2019

Spike6958

Am I the only one who feels Death Stranding been up for anything here is wrong?
IDK, but TGA been Geoff Keighley's award show, his very open love of Kojima, and the fact he's IN Death Stranding, kinda comes across as a conflict of interest, especially considering most people I know agree that the game's really not that good.
Does it matter either way? Not really, but at the same time, it just feels a little shady.

Re: Nintendo Wins Another War Against Piracy As Court Ruling Sees Offending Sites Blocked

Spike6958

I'm torn on this.
Thing is, I'm against piracy for any games that there is reasonable access to, meaning that the publisher of the game has put it somewhere so it's available, be it digital or physical.
The problem is, due to so many different variables such as mixed publishing rights, general licensing issues and studio closers, or even just lack of interest from the developer/publisher many older titles simply aren't available now.
For many of these titles the only possible way to buy them is 2nd hand, if you can find them at all, and when you can oftentimes they're stupidly over-priced too, and none of that even reaches the devs or publisher so at this point, if they're not giving us a way to buy these games in a way that supports them, why does it really matter what way we play them?
It should also be pointed out how much more difficult it's becoming to even play many of these titles outside of emulation even if you can buy them. Most modern TVs can't display many older consoles, as they simply don't have outputs needed and modding the system to be able to actually do it is risky where as playing on PC via emulation bypasses that headache.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

Spike6958

This makes sense. With so many Handheld series heading over to Switch in the next few months, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon and Animal Crossing, it makes sense to make a version that'll appeal to the 3DS playerbase, who may not have interest in a "home console".
That said, for me personally it feels like a step back. The big appeal of the Switch is that you can play it on the TV or on the go, and IMO the current Switch isn't exactly difficult to carry around. I can honestly only really see this version actually been worth it if it's a significant amount lower in price than the current one, otherwise you're better off getting the one that offers you both styles of play.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft All Under Investigation Over Online Gaming Services

Spike6958

@Zorox88 You realize the price of video games has rarely actually increased outside of natural inflation, right? What people paid for Super Mario Odyseey at launch, is equal to what they'd have paid for the original Super Mario Bros at it's launch.

Fact is the cost to develope games has increased ten fold, but the price in sales hasn't, instead they are force to rely on an increase in consumers, which doesn't always happen and has lead to many a studio shutting down. In addition to that video games has the largest second hand market of any media, and only has one point of sale, where as music and movies have multiple (concerts, physical/digital/streaming and radio for music and Cinema, physical/digital/streaming and TV for movies).

Besides, if you can't afford to buy at full price day one, wait for those sales you speak of. No one is every forced to buy a title day one, that is a choice the player makes for themselves.

Re: Sega Reveals Shenmue 1 & 2 Remaster, But It's Skipping Switch

Spike6958

I really hope all these games that seem to be skipping Switch isn't just Nintendo holding back announcements.

I hate constantly having to ask "is this coming to Switch", all the time just because Nintendo can't play ball with other companies and has to reveal everything themselves. I'd rather just know one way or the other when it's 1st revealed.

Re: Rumour: Get That Pinch Of Salt Ready, Apparently Microsoft Is Preparing To Buy Electronic Arts

Spike6958

My feeling is that they would make publishing decisions on a game by game basis.
EA Sports titles like FIFA and Madden, would continue to be multi-plat releases, much like MineCraft, to avoid losing the licence. However the Xbox versions would get exclusive features to make it more attractive to players.
EA owned games such as Battlefield, and Bioware's titles, would end up as Xbox and PC exclusives.
Other licensed property like Star Wars, depending on the specifics of the contract, would likely have to remain multi-platform until the end of the 10 year licencing deal with Disney. After that it would be up to EA and Microsoft to work out another deal with Disney for the possibility of future games been exclusives.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini Is Happening Right Now

Spike6958

Guess I have no excuse to keep passing over TWEWY now.
Surprised Pokken is getting new fighters, Blastoise could sell me on this DLC.
Kirby looks adorable. Loving the Spider power.
Hyrule Warriors will be a triple-dip for me. Love that game so much.
Mario Tennis Aces is the first in a long time to peek my interest thanks to story mode. Hope it's actually good.
Ys VIII, looks fine. Probably won't play that one, not a series I've tried myself.
Mario Odyssey update is... interesting. Not what I expected at all, and TBH seemed kinda pointless. Would have prefered a paid DLC with a new kingdom or two.
SNK, eh, it's a fighting game, I'm not huge into those and I already have Pokken.
DK in Mario + Rabbids looks cool. Loved the remix of the classic DK theme (I'm assuming that was Kirkhope again right).
Payday 2 I wasn't interested in on other platforms, been on Switch doesn't change that.
Fe and Celeste both look good. Not my kinda games.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is another Day One Double Dip. Adore this series so much. My only disappointment is that Returns isn't also included.
Dark Souls, we all knew was coming. It'd been hinted at for so long. I've dabbled in the Souls games once or twice, but didn't really give them a fair chance. Might be time for that.

Re: Here’s Why Traditional Dungeons Got Axed in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Spike6958

I know it's been done before, and not exactly been the most well received feature, but I'd love for the next Zelda to take another shot at a central Dungeon that you visit over and over.

Have the game be that, much like in BotW, Ganon has returned and taken over Hyrule Castle, and much like in that game has put up a barrier around the castle.

Link is tasked with collecting 5 magical orbs, which are located inside mini dungeons, similar to the Divine Beasts, which are each guarded by a boss. The first orb allows Link to enter into Hyrule Castle, where he'll fight the first main boss of the game.

After that the remaining Orbs will unlock the four towers, each with a different theme and boss, these can be tackled in any order, with Link's goal always been to get the orb to the top of said tower, defeat the boss, and place it in a pedestal at the top, once all 5 are returned to the castle, the way to Ganon would open.

Obviously, this is just my rough idea, but I still think it could be pretty cool, and would still keep the fresh feel of BotW, while also bringing back a bit more of the structure that past titles had.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st September (Europe)

Spike6958

@riChchestM ShopTo is the best if you want releases early.
If a game releases on a Friday, I always get it the Thursday. If it releases on a Tuesday, I usually get it Saturday, but if not at least Monday.
Hell back when it released, I actually got my Wii U from them a day early.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st September (Europe)

Spike6958

Also, am I the only one who thinks it's a little dumb that Nintendo and Bandai Namco thought it was a good idea to release both Pokken AND DBX2 on Switch on the same day?
With a bit of time between them, I'd have likely picked up both, but now I'm probably just gonna stick with Pokken for my fighting game needs until we finally get Smash on Switch.
