Capcom has announced that it is broadcasting a livestream event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mega Man, one of its most iconic characters.
The event takes place on December 4th between 11AM and 12PM PST. The venue is Capcom's community Twitch account.
Capcom has been spreading the word by sending out invitation cards to various media outlets, and the message inside states that "You won't want to miss it".
While that's very much open to interpretation, could this be the platform for Capcom to announce a new game in the series? It's easy to get your hopes up but also worth remembering that many expected a new Mega Man outing for the 25th anniversary, but it didn't happen.
Let us know your predictions by posting a comment.

A new Mega Man Game perhaps that isn't a Mobilephone abomination?
Pleeeeaaaase?
Megaman 11
I do expect an abomination.
I'll tell you this: Don't expect that Megaman to be announced for Nintendo Switch.
They are going to shoot him out of a canon into the sun live on air.
If it doesn’t feel like it’s 1997 I’m out.
Probably just some minor collaboration.
Like a Mega Man outfit for Breath of the Wild, or Super Mario Odyssey.
I’ll try and keep my expectations in check
Well they can't say that and not announce a game.
@Neon_Blues Think smaller. Like a collaboration with a clothing company we've never heard of. With designs you wouldnt wear anywhere other than a convention.
Conversely, a design so obscure or minimal, you couldnt even tell the IP it's based off of.
I think you're reading too much into the announcement.
I know cynicism is en vogue, but well, the wording makes me cautiously optimistic. They didn't go out of their way like this to try and hype the 25th anniversary, so maybe there's something to this after all?
I choose to believe. Come on, Capcom.
Calling it now, some kind of Mega Man Mania style game made fans.
Is that film still coming out? Cos if we dont get any game announcement this time im sure we will then!
They're giving a job to Inafune, and he will direct a MegaMan reboot.
Because of the reboot, all editions of old MegaMan games will self destruct.
(No but seriously, I'd be happy to see the legacy collections on Switch)
Mega Man X for Mobile.
A new mini figure series to collect.
First look at the animated series with an accompanying colour matching phone game.
Mega Man characters appearing as DLC for Mighty No. 9.
PROVE ME WRONG CAPCOM!!
PROVE ME WRONG!!
Capcom hasn't done much right with Megaman in years, I am not expecting much.
Capcom didn't bother to port the collection to the Switch so I don't expect anything for the platform now.
Actually, people should not expect anything from Capcom at all.
It will be commemorative panini stickers or something else as crap
Ideally though Mega Man X full collection on all formats would be amazing followed by all new Mega Man X 9
@hadrian
They don't need fans to do that though, Inti Creates already made Mega Man 9 and 10 (and Zero 1-4, and ZX and ZX Advent) and have been using that experience making their own original titles.
Guarantee it’ll be an update on the film / animated series...
My hopes: Megaman X collection for switch/ps4, Megaman Legends 1 & 2 remaster.
My expectations: Mobile game, Megaman as a Dlc character in some random other game
Isn't that hideous MM cartoon supposed to be turning up soon?
@Haru17 Remember E3 2014? Konami had a countdown for their press conference, but the conference never happened. People got up early, the counter reached zero and nothing happened.
This industry proves that saying something doesn't mean doing something.
HOPE fir some good news monday then. Still would be cruel if all we got is a trailer for the megaman movie
Support Inti Creates games if you like Megaman games instead of buying Capcom's empty shells.
@BensonUii
They link to Siliconera so no, it doesn't look like NintendoLife got one.
Unless it came after the fact.
Which means, I wouldn't get hopes up.
I expect megaman mania, mega man forces, a guy with a awful screaming singing voice and a anoying beep that will become an easter egg in megaman mania.
Details on when Megaman’s funeral is being held no doubt
They are finally ready to show off a trailer for that new redesigned mega man tv show.
Bethesda Script:
Make a game so good for switch that even being a port, everyone will comment it is mandatory and it will sell a lot.
Consider the user base of switch, and think that it will grow with your titles too, not just nintendo.
Keep releasing great games that will impress everyone, without saying the Switch is underpowered to justify a weak development team.
Capcom Script: Let's release a low budget game, and expect it to be profitable.
If it makes a lot of money, try releasing another old port. Keep doing the same thing. Re-release 8 bit collections.
If any of them is not selling well, make an official statement saying that Nintendo customers don't buy Capcom products.
Ubisoft: It is always good to be friend of Nintendo.
EA: Try to do a good job with Switch to forget the past, and receive the same critics from the last generation.
Bethesda is the new Rare.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!11!!!!!!! The match-3 mega man mobile game is true!!!!!!!11one!!!!!!
Disappointment time!
Maybe we're getting a life size plush of Rush now...
It’s gonna be that lame cartoon version of him isn’t it...
@Octane Konami also doesn't make enough video games to fill a show. I really don't see the support for the point you're making, a company simply not doing what they said they were going to do it a pretty extreme case. Moreover, there are more Mega Man games than almost every other gaming IP. It's literally one of the most populous gaming franchises. Another game is an inevitability, not a rarity.
@Haru17 I'm just saying that you sometimes get the complete opposite of what companies say they're going to do. Let alone the implication that Capcom has to announce a new Megaman. Yeah, it makes sense, but ''logic'' isn't part of the industry's vocabulary. Chances are nothing at all will happen.
"We are pleased to announce that we have no announcements to make regarding Megaman on Switch as of this moment. In the meantime please enjoy Megaman World only on Playstation 4. ...XBOX1 and PC later in 2018."
Expecting to be dissapointed.
New Mega Man game to be released on Switch, PS4 and XB1 in 2018!
The catch is, when it's 90% complete, Capcom will cancel it for no reason.
Crapcom will tease another lazy port. Probably a Mega Man X Collection split into 2 parts to maximize profits. And then they won’t even release it on Switch.
Just announce the legacy collections for Switch, Capcom...I know that's SO hard for you to do right now, but it's all I'm asking.

"excluding any Nintendo console"
Ooh...
Sounds like a Backstabber.
Eh, I think I'll be fine with missing it. I'm sure any relevant info will be easy to find after the fact.
A brand new game.......that won't come out on any Nintendo platform. Not to worry we'll get all the collections that have missed Nintendo so far. Because they are cheap to make and not as much of a risk.
Cynicism > Positivism
^^^^ summing up the replies
Yay, i suppose.
They are going to announce that MHXX is being localized.
@GC-161 Learning from past experience > blind optimism
It's a long shot, but anyone else hoping for Mega Man X9?
Well, a new classic Mega Man would be great, 9 is easily the best one in my opinion. But a Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 for Switch or 3DS would be awesome as well.
Mega Man lunchboxes, Mega Man fruit rollups, Mega Man limited edition keychains (Japan only), thank you for watching!
@Captain_Toad "Yay, i suppose."
Pretty much my reaction too.
Megaman 11
@Reignmaker @Captain_Toad That's my reaction mainly because I've disappointed with Mega Man so many times in the past. Honestly, all they have to do to make me happy is bring over the Mega Man collections to the Switch. That's it. Quite simple for them.
I'd be absolutely ecstatic if they announced a brand new Mega Man game in the vein of the original or Mega Man X. It doesn't need to be retro styled either - it could be a modern looking game, as long as it plays like Mega Man.
@roadrunner343 I hear ya, and I share much of the same sentiment. That being said, there's little guarantee that a modern MegaMan would even be any good. They've also released some downright terrible ports of past collections before, so definitely a wait-and-see either way.
@Reignmaker After Mighty No. 9, I would definitely be cautious. Mega Man was probably tied with SMB as my favorite series as a kid, so my expectations for a new Mega Man game would be pretty high. I'm pretty much setting myself up for disappointment =)
Honestly though, I think I'd probably be fine if we got a "Good" Mega Man game - It doesn't have to be an amazing game, just a solid platformer reminiscent of the 90's. It doesn't even have to be original - I'd settle for a remake/remix. Anything at this point.
@LemonSlice
Claiming to have learned from past experiences and yet here we are... caring.
The optimistic side of my brain is hoping that they've listened to fan demand and will actually produce a new game for the series. I'll even take a new spinoff at this point (or a revival of Legends 3).
The pessimistic part of my brain is expecting nothing game-related, or else another Mega Man collection of sorts.
Let's just have it in our minds that Capcom will most likely not announce anything for the Switch, even if our hearts wish otherwise. That way when they eventually don't announce a Switch title we won't be burnt.
Unless there releasing mega man legends 3 onto the Switch or putting the recently collections onto it...
I DON'T SEE HOW THIS IS "NINTENDO" NEWS
@meppi Mega MAN + launching into the SUN...
SUNMAN NES prototype remake confirmed for Smash Bros.!!!
Anyway, don't expect Mega Man Legends 3. Don't expect Mega Man X 9, either. And don't Expect Mega Man ZX3. Also, Don't expect Mega Man Battle Network 7, or Mega Man Starforce 4. Most importantly, you can forget about Mega Man 11.
Lastly, experience has taught us that, even if you go in with minimal expectations, you may still be very disappointed by the presentation and bored out of your skull, man.
.....just another compilation. No thanks.
Hmmm... good surprises vs bad surprises from Capcom considered, I'm sure this will be met with mix feelings. I think the best news that "could" happen would be something like, Capcom striking an agreement with Inafune and Inti-Creates to helm MM11, but that's super wishful thinking, or a MML3. The "OK" news would probably be something like expanded compilations like, MM1-10, MMX1-8, MMZ1-4, MMZX1-2, MML1-2, etc., or even dare I say an ultra compilation with them all, but I highly doubt that one, too. Hopefully it's not another atrocity such as MM x SF, but considering how Capcom tends to treat its dead/retired franchises, I definitely won't be getting my hopes up.
Megaman X full series HD remaster please, Capcom! Same with Legends. Then new games. Many new games.
Remember this?
No Crapcom, you won't fool me again!
Megaman 64 retroactively confirmed for the Nintendo 64 Entertainment System.
@GlutenFreeGamer You mean the Mega Man Legends port? https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51PP2FTGN6L.jpg
I tell what it won't happen in this show:
Mega Man Legends 3.
Yep I'm still salty.
Capcom is instilling a feeling of hope/dread/fear/anger in me, I'm not sure i can forgive them without anything less than a revival of Mega Man Legends 3
@JJ286 aren't we all?
@duddy pretty much yeah. Capcom has 5 IPs that are very good and do NOTHING with: Mega Man, Contra, Breath of Fire, Viewtiful Joe and Okami (well at least there is an HD version coming) and quite frankly it plain sucks.
Gritty ‘year one’ reboot incoming (to sell Megaman to the Western market). It’ll answer the questions that we’ve all had for so many years like which shop did Dr Light buy the metal from to make Megaman? Plus amazing revelations about Dr Wilys motivations that will change the way you think about the franchise forever.
It’s being worked on by the same team that made the cult XBox 360 Classic Bomberman Zero. Also - not to let anything out of the bag about who’s paying for it - but it’ll feature special guest appearances from thematically appropriate Sony characters like Parappa the Rapper and, er, Nathan Drake.
@JJ286 Contra is Konami, but that series definitely needs to come back as well. Konami ain’t doing too much these days either. There’s a new Bomberman, but I don’t know what else Konami has in store right now.
As for Megaman, I’m not the biggest fan but it kinda sucks that’s nothing going for him.
Oh heeeeeeeeerrrrree we go...
@NEStalgia
You forgot Mega Man flamethrowers.
@Krisi
Yes it would.
@JJ286
But Contra is Konami's. 0_o
I hope they have a new Mega Man game for the Switch or 3Ds.
Its a new Captain Commando MegaMan crossover beat-em-up that is primarily coming out in arcade form but is also getting home ports. They will also release an anniversary arcade stick adorned with the arcade machines CP graphics to give you the complete arcadee at home vibe.
Just another mobile poop-fest!
@Reignmaker Who knows, if 9 and 10 are any indication, a new Mega Man game could be just as awesome as the ones on the NES.
Super Ultra Street Fighter 2 with evil Dhalsim and E. Honda
@Bunkerneath
It scares me that there's a 90% chance of this happening.
I had a whole comment here about the Official PlayStation Twitter receiving the invite, and not Nintendo or Microsoft, but apparently Nintendo received the same invite too!!!
I hope this is good....
I just got a Megaman tattoo on mi forearm so I hope they don't trash the IP.
Looking forward to this. It'd be heartbreaking if a new game wasn't announced or a Mega Man Legends HD compilation. I thought what they did with the 25th Anniversary was good actually.....we got a new game from it! Yes, I do count SF x MM as a nice title and part of the series.
A new Tron Bonne game for Switch with motion controls would be great.
I would rather just predict another disappointment rather than a new game for fans of the series. I am not a fan personally, but they deserve a new game.
@Tempestryke lol opps true. Konami is the other deception to be honest; give me my Castlevania and my Contra.
@shonenjump86 yeah Contra is Konami but still they need to bring it back.
@BlueKnight07 Nah it's going to be a card board cut out of a life size Flying Shell Plush.
Also mayonnaise packets that look like energy tanks.
@JJ286 They tried.... But he died on the moon..... That's why they cancelled production..... They didn't have the heart to break it to us.....
All joking aside that's the only thing I want from Capcom which is why I too will forever be salty!!
@JJ286 Yes, yes and again yes! Such good IPs don't deserve to fade away.
@Reignmaker huh... they actually didn't disappoint. A brand new Mega Man with a new graphical style, the Legacy collections coming to switch, AND Mega Man X is coming? That's just about everything I possibly could have asked for. Well done Capcom. Now, don't make it suck =)
@roadrunner343 Yep, now it just has be good. Heh.
@Tempestryke that also applies to Beck from Mighty No. 9. I wish Inti Creates would pick him up. Comcept did Beck bad but Inti can do him wonders.
@JJ286 ^^ I like Mighty, it just needs a little polish in certain areas such as music, slowdown and stages.
@roadrunner343
For sure! Its a good year to be a Mega Man fan.
