That game really surprised me by how good it was. Wasn't even planning on buying it cuz I expect that sort of game to cost $20 or $30 these days, but bought it on a whim while I was walking through a store and so glad I did. Dread blew me away.
It's my fifth most played game so far on my Switch and probably my fourth favorite game on the Switch out of games I've played enough of to judge.
Glad they've added a bunch of content. It's a fun multiplayer game for golf gaming fans. Looking forward to trying out these two new courses. Still they treated motion controls as a tacked on feature which leaves this game a little bit of a disappointment as motion controls are by far the best way to play a golf game. And the original courses in the game could have been designed in more interesting ways. Like it'd be cool since you have to run the course in speed golf if there was actual platforming elements. Still a fun multiplayer game that now has a reasonable amount of content.
But with more interesting courses, better motion controls, and a fully fleshed out golf rpg-like single player mode this game could have been something special.
The only thing that would make sense would be a Switch 2. Obviously far more powerful, backwards compatible with Switch games, make sure Switch Online is complete with the additions of game boy and game boy advance by the time the Switch 2 comes out, redo the joy cons so they have no drift. In addition they should expand interactive options like ring fit, rather than just having a one off game have a whole series of fitness games and perhaps other physical games (like they experimented with the Labo games) if they have any great ideas beyond fitness. And I would hope for a family of system strategy where they have the portable only the hybrid and upgraded hybrid and upgraded home system that are all offered in the first few years of his lifespan. Maybe also adding a VR system to it. Basically just the perfecting of the switch concept and Nintendo's services.
Next year is going to be a huge year for switch software. I'm guessing the rumored Donkey Kong game will come out next year as well. Hopefully a Wind Waker & Twilight Princess pack. Probably either remastered Metroid Prime or hopefully Metroid Prime trilogy. Nintendo will probably bust out one brand new thing like they have been doing every year with the switch.
And probably the last full year for the switch in 2023 will likely have a brand new 2D Mario, Metroid Prime 4, maybe one last pokémon on the Switch to take advantage of that enormous user base, and then there's the question of pikmin, star fox, fzero, mario strikers, xenoblade, and a few other franchises.
Then a switch 2 release in 2024 with Mario kart 9 and a 3D Mario to get the next gen started. Going to be a good next few years for Nintendo gamers!
There's nothing wrong with the expansion pack service (well other than all the day one bugs and the fact that it's clear and intended did not have this product ready for lunch!!).
The price is fine. The problem is marketing. When they add a bunch more and 64 in Genesis games, as long as everything runs smoothly, it'll be fine. And presumably they'll eventually be adding GB and GBA to this as well.
The problem is they Don't announce their long-term plans for switch online and people tend to assume the worst. I guess I'll loads of people when switch online first came out assuming that it would be NES only and nothing else would be added, simply because Nintendo didn't say what their plans were. I've always assumed it'll be NES, SNES, N64, GB, and GBA. And now we have Genesis as a bonus. Since the thing was priced so low it's obvious all those weren't going to be offered at the original super low $20 price.
So $50 is not the problem. The problem is that this tier is 150% higher than the Nes/snes tier and we dont know for sure what they are going to do to make it worth that price jump vecause they don't tell their users what their plans are. We did recently get a data dump that suggests there's going to be like 38 and n64 games in like 52 Genesis games. Which is nice. But all Nintendo needs to do is say hey in 2022 we plan on releasing these X n64 games and X genesis games, along with more Nes and Snes, and we plan on adding Gb and GBA in 2023 (or whenever). Then people could at least be like okay in a year this service will be worth it for me or in 2 years the service will be worth it for me or in 6 months the service will be worth it for me.
I don't get how Nintendo doesn't think through any of this stuff. In some ways they are an amazing company, but in other ways they're just completely daft. It feels like they've got their C dev team and their C marketing team working on their online offerings. Literally just giving the fan base a schedule of their plans would fix this. And then it's up to their dev team to fix all the bugs in the expansion pack they just launched that wasn't ready.
@Gwynbleidd you're again pretending that you control other people. Maybe YOU would only play four games which is why you won't buy the service. But there's dozens of great games on the service. So again, worst argument ever. Or if you're only talking about the new games and the $30 cost for them, well there's already a lot more than four great games on the two new systems and of course that's just the initial offering with lots more games to be added in the future. The whole reason a subscription model is so much better is that you get access to the hundreds of games For a cheap yearly price. So you can literally play anything you want anytime you want. It's why for movies and TV shows the world has gone to streaming away from renting and buying individual titles.
Sure they're not going to play every single game offered, but you of course don't need to do that to get your money's worth. The value is in having a lot of games available that you want to play. If the service was hey pick five games you want to be able to play and pay $50 a year that would be terrible and that's what you're describing but that's not remotely what the service is.
It's amazing people have no problem paying $10 or so dollars a month for each video streaming service but when it comes to playing over a hundred retro games (plus the other features like playing switch games online!) they act like $4 a month is crazy.
The price is high at launch compared to the super cheap previously offered $20 service, but that's only because they haven't built out the library for the new systems or added more systems yet. And that's not even the argument you're making anyway, you're literally pretending like you can prevent people from playing the games they want to play on the service.
@Gwynbleidd umm not to jump into your argument here but did you really tell someone else that they aren't going to play these games?? Lol. As if you control this person. I mean granted he said people wouldn't use voice chat which is silly but you're literally saying he's going to buy the service just to not play all these great games. Worst argument ever.
I'll buy eventually once more games are added. Been very much looking forward to getting N64 games on the switch, and Genesis is just a bonus!
Though the price will make more sense once they add game boy and game boy advance as well. I might wait like a year until a bunch more games are added and I get through more of my switch backlog. No reason to pay an extra $50 a year when I have a bunch of switch games i haven't even started playing yet.
I'm really interested in playing Majora's mask cuz I never beat that back in the day. And F-Zero X should be fun cuz it's been over 15 years since I've played an F-Zero game and who knows if they'll actually make one for the switch. Also I think getting back into Banjo-Kazooie will be fun and hopefully they add Banjo Tooie which i never played.
The online service is starting to look really good with these additions, it's just a bit pricey right now until they fill it up with more systems and games.
Well we just got Dread then next year either Metroid Prime remaster or (hopefully) Metroid Prime Trilogy will come out. Then i expect MP4 to be late 2023, one of the last big first party releases on Switch before a successor comes out in 2024.
Looks cool. Want to see it in motion. Will keep my eye out for this one. But the "16-bit" graphics lol. Looks pretty comparable to N64 2D graphics. Way more advanced than 16-bit style. But I get it, it's popular to say pixel art games are either 8-bit or 16-bit for marketing purposes cuz of nostalgia.
Yes ive been waiting for nintendo to bring wii sports to the Switch. Combine Wii Sports and Resort into one game with online and HD resolution, and throw some effort into maybe adding more depth like more golf courses, bowling tounraments, more boxing difficulty ratings and maybe unique boxers to face, stuff like that. That would easily be a 10+ million seller at full price.
Makes sense. With all the new entrants to movie/tv streaming Netflix is just one option now instead of THE streaming source. Streaming is becoming like cable tv packages now, theres a while bunch you have to buy separately if you want all the options. By moving into video game streaming they are once again trying to get into a nascent market and also try to differentiate themselves as THE streaming service to have, at least for people who play games some. They'll probably offer this free for a few months to get people hooked and then you'll end up paying like $10/mo more to add in the video game service. All depends on what games they get though.
Fact is its a 2D sidescroller in 2021 not called Mario. So unless its gonna offer a ton of reply value like say Dead Cells, or is a 50hr game (it wont be - probably more like 15-20hr game) it shouldn't be releasing at $60. Nintendo has a history of doing this, especially on the Switch, and it absolutely will dampen sales of the game, which is unfortunate because it's the first new Metroid in a very long time and Metroid isnt that great selling franchise in the first place.
I'll be happy to pick it up at $30 or perhaps $40 if it is highly regarded, but that'll be a few years probably so i might not even care at that point since I'll likely already have Prime 4.
Considering comparable games sell in the $15-$25 range, Nintendo upping the price for higher production value plus premium pricing simply because its Nintendo/Metroid, leaves the game at a reasonable $40 price tag. It's very obvious why there is backlash to $60.
@AdaptiveLynn haha just because it was originally planned 15 years ago doesnt mean they put 15 years of planning into it lol. What you mean is they put it to the side for 15 years!
Anyway, its a 2d game, unless its a massive adventure with tons of replay value i aint paying $60 for a sidescroller in 2021. Those type of games with high production values generally go for about $30, and I'll be happy to pay $30 for it when i get the chance!
Looks awesome. Will wait for half price sale though. Would make a lot more sense to release this at $40 but thats not Nintendo's style. Too bad the price tag is gonna hurt sales a lot.
Was hoping to also see Prime Trilogy announced as well but at least we got one awesome looking Metroid.
Woah it seems this game is more comprehensive than i thought. And from the initial announcement i thought you couldnt actually share games except over local wifi. I might need to go pick up this game. As someone who is just starting to get into game dev right now this could maybe even be a fun protoyping tool!
Such a great game and the developers are awesome by keeping the updates (mostly free) coming for years with great new content each time. My second most played Switch game! My only gripe is the difficulty jumps up a lot, i think i got stuck on two boss cells cuz it just got soooo much harder. I saw they updated it after that to lower than difficulty cliff a bit. Probably been a couple content updates since i last played also so i should probably jump back in sometime! This is probably the most replayable single player game ive ever played outside of some RTS games back in the day.
Well this doesn't mean anything. All it means is that they aren't announcing more new games yet and haven't decided on a release date for zelda yet. I expect a big software year this year. We just don't know which games it'll be yet other than obviously botw2.
He actually thinks Nintendo should take away the feature that makes the Switch unique and along with BotW launched it into becoming a huge success hahaha. Wow. If you wanted to compile a list of the dumbbest things Nintendo could do, this would absolutely take the number 1 spot.
I mean obviously it was running on standard Switch hardware. It just looks like a good looking Switch game. Doesn't have MH World graphics or anything. It looks great.
Also people should really not be expecting separate games to run on a new upgraded Switch model. Nintendo has tons of history of upgrading their portable systems with slightly more powerful models (plus the N64 with the expansion pack). Everytime they do this there are like 2-4 games exclusive to the upgraded model. It's possible we see a handful of third party Xb1/ps4 games ported over with graphical downgrades that are exclusive to the upgraded model because it just wasnt quite possible to get them running on standard Switch hardware and the minor boost of the upgrade at least gets a downgraded version runnable. But i wouldnt be surprised if thats not even the case, because why would third parties go through the effort of porting a game over and having to do the work of downgrading it just to sit exclusively on a version of a system that will probably only ever have like 20 million sales?
Switch Pro or whatever will just let you play Switch games in higher res (apparently 4k docked using DLSS upgrading if the rumors are right) and it'll fix any framerate issues in games. Also in the upgrade rumor was something about new interactivity, so if the new model has some sort of new feature that is likely the only reason there will be exclusive games to it, and it'll probably be like 2 or 3 exclusive games based on that new feature, not based on power.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the new model launches in March on say the 4 year Switch launch anniversary. Wouldn't be surprised if Botw2 launches the same day, with Mario 3D World deluxe having just come out a couple weeks before, and MH and perhaps some other big games also coming out in March, and possibly a Zelda collection coming out in February for its 35th anniversary, it'd basically be a whole pseudo-launch of big titles timed to shine attention on Nintendo and their upgraded model, taking the wind out of the sails of the next gen systems launched just a few months beforehand.
Oh god no that's a terrible idea because you limit what games can be offered on later upgraded versions by needing to have them still run on all previous versions. If increasing polygons and texture resolution and better particle effects and better lighting and more environmental detail and so on was just a matter of dialing up some values then it could be done, but thats not reality.
There won't be continuous iterations on the original Switch. There will be a next gemn Switch 2 in a few years that allows for a large spec leap instead and lets the new system handle newer more demanding games, as always happens in a generational leap. It should have full backwards compatibility and the same but improved online services to allow for a smooth transition from Switch to Switch 2.
No surprise that it has amazing sales. I just finished my way through 64, and started on Sunshine. Great to be able to play these games again after so many years! I didnt even remember a few levels at all in 64 so it was partially like playing through a new game. I dont remember anything specific about Sunshine so this will be like almost playing through a brand new game! Cant wait to get to Galaxy either, I only wish they hadn't strangely left out Galaxy 2. Nintendo better release that on the eshop.
Definitely plan on getting this after i saw it in the recent Direct. Looks awesome. Someone said if you like dead cells you'll like Hades and Dead Cells is my second most play Switch game so I'm looking forward to this. This might be next up after i work my way through the new Mario All-Stars.
@Ambassador_Kong huh?? You realize Switch 3rd party support has only been getting better and better with each passing year right? Nintendo is definitely not saying they're gonna suddenly release a new system. Switch has severalyears left and 3rd parry support should continue to improve even more during that time. All this statement by Nintendo says is basically they don't plan on going the streaming route any time soon and will continue to create hardware that improves gameplay, which they uniquely do in this industry.
Mario 64 was obviously the most revolutionary by a long shot, and its still great no doubt but i doubt its scope lives up compared to far more advanced modern games.
Galaxy was amazing, then Galaxy 2 nearly perfected the Galaxy formula. And then Odyssey was amazing as well. Dont get the "Oddysey was short" criticism as it was very long for a platformer. I put nearly 60 hours into the game until I got to the point where i had only quite hard moons to get left. And it was nearly 30 hours to beat the game, getting a reasonable amount of moons on the way, and that alone is a good amount of length for a platformer. Platformers aren't RPGs! You dont need a 100 hour platformer! 20-30 hours for main quest to beat the game and then 50-70 hours for completionists is plenty long.
I'd probably put Galaxy 2 as best, then Odyssey, then Galaxy, then 64. Only other one I've played is Sunshine which was also very good but not up to the level of the others ones.
I'll play sunshine first because obviously played thru Galaxy most recently when it came out and played 64 the most out of these so Sunshine feels like it was the longest ago.
The limited run is ridiculous. I feel for anybody who buys Switch the next few years and doesn't have access to this game unless they get lucky and find it used at gamestop or something. The exclusion of Galaxy 2 is worse, but this 6 month stuff is bad too. I'll get it digitally but I'm sure tons of people will want the physical copy. So hopefully they ship at minimum 10 million copies of the game, with the vast majority of that this Fall, so that scalpers get screwed and people who want a physical copy arent forced to get it digital instead.
This collection is exactly what i expected other than the lack of Galaxy 2. No Galaxy 2 really stings as its the best game of the bunch and since Galaxy is in here its just like Nintendo intentionally held G2 out just to not give fans the full collectioknwe want. Games look great in high res, i never expected any other changes and would rather play the original games than some sort of altered versions of the games instead.
So extremely disappointed there's no Galaxy 2 but wil definitely pick this up as its still a great collection and i dont have any of my old systems anymore so i haven't played these games in forever.
@TheFrenchiestFry third parties dont even necessarily sell worse on Switch, its just that those high selling third party games dont come out on Switch. I dont think Switch has had a single AAA third party game released at the same time as the other platforms or just in general has released as an exclusive. The few AAA third party games Switch has gotten, and it is starting to receive more this year, are years late, sometimes even a decade old. Which is fine, but you can't expect a third party game that is years old to sell well when most people who wanted the game already bought it years ago. Given the context in which AAA third party games get released on Switch that sell quite well. If third party AAA games were actually made for the Switch they'd sell better than xbox but worse than ps4, which means they'd sell very well.
Yikes. If they were gonna do this they should have made like a $100 tiny console close to the power of the Switch, sold for no profit (I'm assuming at this point a home-only version of the Switch sold without profit wouldnt be much over $100). Thats strong enough yo run modern looking games while being cheap enough to not be a major buy for people. And spent the past few years building up a solid launch library of classic Atari games, modern remakes of classic Atari games, and some original content. Make it real easy for indies to publish to it without hassle. Go all digital games and run it as like a $15/mo games service so you can play any game on the system. I feel like thats the only way this could even have a chance to succeed - cheap enough to be an impulse buy with no decision making about which games to purchase with just a monthly games service priced around what netflix charges.
While of course I'm happy with the fantastic Switch library overall, it has seemed like there are less first party games than I would have expected since they consolidated to one system.
Granted 3DS games were still being made after Switch came out so not all teams had been working on Switch games, but by now everyone should be working on Switch games so hopefully output improves starting next year. Also Switch games take longer and should require more graphical artists than 3DS games so i wouldnt expect Switch output to simply equal Wii U + 3DS output. But then you have to take into account that a decent number of Switch games have simply been ports or remasters which take far less dev time than new games: MK8D, Captain Toad, DKC, Xenoblade DE, NSMBUD, Bayonetta 1+2, Pokken Tournament are all the ports I can think of. Not saying porta are bad, in fact i hope more come (would pick up prime trilogy and wind waker for sure) but still those 8 ports listed should only count as 1 or 2 games in terms of development time.
Covid is probably slowing down the release of games this year. We dont know what the rest of the year looks like yet, as Nintendo will probably announce games two months out this year but even that is concerning because that means there might not be any first party games until October. Spitballing here, but perhaps BotW2 was gonna be the big holiday title but that could be pushed back now so to compensate they pushed back most of their summer/early fall releases to be oct-nov-dec holiday releases so they still have a packed holiday. Time will tell.
So far at 3+ years in output seems a bit light. If the next couple of years there is huge output from 3DS teams switching to Switch in 2019 or so and Covid-delays coming out then that could change the story. But certainly with only one system to support I expect the Switch to get normal handheld franchises of which only a few have come so far, in addition to the full array of console franchises some of which have been neglected for a while but I dont see any reason for them to not come out when Nintendo only has one system.
So yeah in addition of the games we already know about (Botw2, Bayonetta 3, and Metroid Prime 4, and no doubt another pokemon even though we havent heard of it yet) I'm waiting to see if Switch will get stuff like Star Fox, Fzero, a brand new 2D Mario, another 3D Mario, Mario & Luigi, Pikmin, at least a couple more Ring Fit games, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Mario Strikers, Mario Golf, Warioware, another Mario Party, a Wii Sports sequel, Pilotwings, perhaps a new 2D Metroid, a game in the Excite(bike) series, Punchout, Kid Icarus, some more ports of popular old games like Metroid Prime trilogy and Wind Waker and maybe Skyward Sword. I would expect all of these games on Switch, or if any don't make it for sales considerations I'd expect other series or new IP to take their place. There are still probably three and a half to four years left in Switch's life cycle, so plenty of time for these games, but if a future library similar to this list doesnt eventually appear I will certainly be wondering what Nintendo is doing instead of increasing game output for only one system.
It definitely looks a lot like Celeste visually and storywise I guess. At least they gave it a unique mechanic as the centerpiece of the gameplay. Not surprised it isn't nearly as good as Celeste, as that game is fantastic!
Luckily dont have to worry about that on Nintendo as the enormous dev costs are only needed for hyper realistic graphics games which third parties dont even bring to Nintendo systems.
I pretty much only spend $60 on Nintendo first party games these days, and even then I keep that to a minimum. Most of the time I wait for games to go on temporary sales, whether they are normally priced at $15 or $60.
Lots of AAA third party graphically hyper realistic action games these days that crowd Ps/Xbox are high on graphics and short on gameplay length. Hard to make a case that those games are worth $60, let alone $70. I dont care how great the graphics are, if the game only lasts 10 or 15 hours that aint worth it 99% of the time.
@sanderev not at $250. Maybe if it was like $80 that'd be a cool addition to a collector shelf. At the cost of an actual video game system I imagine the sales will be extremely limited. Ask any gamer what they would rather have, a new system or 5 brand new games, or a lego set...for all but the most extreme collectors this product is gonna be a big head scratch as to why it exists.
I dont see why anyone would ever buy this. All the mario lego announcements seem incredibly not interesting. This will probably sell a few thousand copies to nintendo enthusiasts with money who want to add it to their nintendo memorabilia shelf. You cant actually play with it, either as a video game or a lego set. Its just a lego model you build once and set aside...for as much as you could buy a Switch Lite and game for.
@SwitchVogel Totally agree. The games on Switch are fantastic, and with all the great indies I certainly can't complain about the Switch library, I already have enough games to last years to come, but I definitely thought Nintendo would have a higher output.
There are plenty of IP that have come out only on portables and other than pokemon most of them still haven't come out on Switch. I expected Switch would get a full helping of the complete array of franchises that used to come out on Nintendo's home and handheld systems. I don't see why Nintendo hasn't been putting out several more AA games per year than it has been. It really feels like the handheld teams didn't move over to the Switch at all. The fact that several Nintendo games have just been Wii U ports makes this all the more obvious.
As far the next system, just doing a Switch 2 is the best choice. That is still several years away. Maybe at most adding built in VR capability if its powerful enough to make that work well, but otherwise, just a much more powerful Switch, upgraded screen, much more disk space, backwards compatible with Switch games, have a fully fleshed out Switch Online and virtual console subscription service by launch, get rid of terrible friend codes, have bluetooth for headphones, have built in voice chat and get rid of the stupid app for that, and for the love of god no joy con drift. Switch as a concept is damn near perfect, I just want a Sony-style straight boring upgrade for the next gen Nintendo.
@jimbob298 yes so true. Its that extremely rare single player experience that you can just come back to day after day after you've beaten it, thinking oh I'll do one run and then you end up playing for two or three hours. Definitely among my favorite games ever.
@Heavyarms55 yeah I like your idea of charging different amounts. A Switch Online Basic membership at $20/yr gets you NES and SNES. While a Premium membership at $40/yr gets you NES, SNES, GB, GBA, and N64. That'd be perfect. Hell if they add in Gamecube I'd gladly pay $50/yr.
At the very least it'd just be nice to know what their plans are. Like if N64 is coming later this year (oh please let this be the case!) let us know! Hopefully in a couple years we'll have all these systems on there and in hindsight we'll just be like okay Nintendo was just very slow in doing their internet service stuff as they always are but at least they finally got everything up there.
@Heavyarms55 yeah when Switch Online came out i figured Snes, GB, GBA, and N64 would all be added by now. Its been pretty disappointing but then i say well its $20 a year so that would be insanely cheap for all those systems. I'd much rather pay $40/year and have all 5 systems with 2-3 game releases a month than this super cheap but often neglected service. The subscription model is way better than buying overpriced individual VC games but they need to give us a lot more and raise the price if needed.
@clvr yeah New 3DS had like 5 exclusives. Nintendo has never split the fanbase. Occasionally they've released a version of a system that ends up having like 5 or less unique games, that ain't splitting any fanbase.
You ask what would the point be? What is the point of it every time they've done it!? They've always released different versions of GB, GBA, DS, 3DS, and Switch. Switch already has the Lite, with your logic you'd ask what was the point of that? Of course there is a point. This is what Nintendo has always done with their portables. Why would we expect them to suddenly NOT release an updated version of the Switch when they've always done that with their portables.
I don't get why some people think making different versions of Nintendo portables suddenly somehow means that they will be different systems with different libraries. Literally has never happened before. By "Pro" I think most people mean (and certainly I mean) just what Nintendo always done, which is release new and upgraded versions of their current handheld system.
We already have the Lite, I have no doubt we'll get a Premium version as well. Sometimes its just a different form factor (GBA SP), sometimes it is an upgraded model for a premium experience (GBC, New 3DS), and sometimes it is a downgraded or just smaller model (GB Pocket, DS Lite, 2DS, Switch Lite). Just like the 3DS had the 2DS and the New 3DS. The Lite and a premium Switch will fill the those roles. If people want a cheaper version without all the features of the original they get a Lite, if people want the best experience playing Switch games they get the Pro or Premium or XL or New or whatever it will be called. The point of doing that is there is a market for it, if there wasn't Nintendo wouldn't do it literally every generation!
Why make a GB Pocket / GBC / GB Micro / GBA SP / DS Lite / DSi / DSi XL / 3DS XL / 2DS / New 3DS / New 2DS XL / Switch Lite if it just runs the same games. Hopefully just showing that list of how many times they've done this before should make it obvious what the point of doing it again is.
@clvr of course there will be a Switch "Pro". Why would that split the fanbase? Nintendo has always done multiple versions of their handhelds. We already have the Lite, no doubt there will at some point be a premium version once Nintendo is ready to do price drops so that people who want a new and shiny fanciest version of the Switch can pay extra for that. It's not like it would run different games, no fanbase splitting there, just the same thing Nintendo always does with its portable systems. I don't know why some people all of a sudden think different version of the same system (which Nintendo has always done) means different systems that plays different games. Premium version of Switch would be something like bigger better screen, more storage, slightly faster or optimized chipset to run games more smoothly, perhaps longer battery and bluetooth support. Those to me would be the obvious upgrades. Just like Gameboy, GBA, DS, 3DS, we should fully expect Switch to have different versions, which is obvious since they already came out with Switch Lite.
As far as Switch 2, I expect it could come out in 2023 but I'm hoping for a March 2024. That way they could get a Switch 2 chipset perhaps with a bit smaller gap in relation to PS5/XBS than Switch currently has with PS4/XBO. That way it'd be easier and more likely third parties would port AAA games to the Switch easier and with less compromises. Besides the Switch is super hot and an amazing system and sales probably won't even slow down from the current phenomenal pace until like 2022 so 2024 launch seems reasonable.
@idrawrobots most games have never been mentioned. In fact the only games that have been mentioned AFAIK are Bayonetta 3, Botw2, and Metroid Prime 4. The reason people believe other games are in development is because we're all pretty sure Nintendo is gonna release more than 3 more main franchise games during the last 3 or so years of the Switch's life. So yeah, obviously there are a ton of games they are working on that haven't been announced yet. Pikmin is likely one of those many games.
@nickwpearce Nintendo always only does one Mario Kart per system. Doesn't matter that its a Wii U port, it is selling like a brand new Mario Kart. In fact it'll probably end up being the best selling Mario Kart ever. Zero chance another Mario Kart hits the Switch, that's been obvious for about two years now.
And yeah sure Metroid is far away, I could see holiday 2021 though, that'd be almost 3 years in development at that point. But no way it will be a Switch 2 title, because thats way wayu further away. Switch 2 is still several years away while they reset Prime 4 over a year ago which means it is well into development for the Switch at this point. They're not gonna delay it for like 2 years beyond when it's done to bring it out on Switch 2 when it was made for the Switch in the first place. Corona isn't gonna delay games by like two years, at very most they lose a few months. So maybe like you say, early 2022, instead of holiday 2021.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Switch Game Of 2021? It's Time To Rate Your Favourites
Definitely Metroid Dread.
Re: Feature: Our Verdict On Mario Golf: Super Rush's Version 4.0 Update - The Final New Characters, Courses And Modes
Re: Rumour: The Original Final Fantasy Tactics Might Be Getting A Remaster
Would definitely pick this up on the Switch! Amazing game but I never finished it back in the day.
Re: Talking Point: Will Nintendo Abandon The Switch Concept For Its Next Console?
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
Re: Random: Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack' Trailer Is Now Its Most Disliked YouTube Video Ever
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
@Gwynbleidd umm not to jump into your argument here but did you really tell someone else that they aren't going to play these games?? Lol. As if you control this person. I mean granted he said people wouldn't use voice chat which is silly but you're literally saying he's going to buy the service just to not play all these great games. Worst argument ever.
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted
Well we just got Dread then next year either Metroid Prime remaster or (hopefully) Metroid Prime Trilogy will come out. Then i expect MP4 to be late 2023, one of the last big first party releases on Switch before a successor comes out in 2024.
Re: Pixel Art Metroidvania 'Souldiers' Brings Puzzles, Platforming And Combat To Switch
Re: Soapbox: A Strange Desire For Switch Sports And A Return To Wii's Wuhu Island
Re: Netflix Will Reportedly Offer Video Games "Within The Next Year"
Makes sense.
Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
Re: Metroid 5 Is Coming To Switch As Metroid Dread, And It's 2D
@AdaptiveLynn haha just because it was originally planned 15 years ago doesnt mean they put 15 years of planning into it lol. What you mean is they put it to the side for 15 years!
Anyway, its a 2d game, unless its a massive adventure with tons of replay value i aint paying $60 for a sidescroller in 2021. Those type of games with high production values generally go for about $30, and I'll be happy to pay $30 for it when i get the chance!
Re: Metroid 5 Is Coming To Switch As Metroid Dread, And It's 2D
Looks awesome. Will wait for half price sale though. Would make a lot more sense to release this at $40 but thats not Nintendo's style. Too bad the price tag is gonna hurt sales a lot.
Was hoping to also see Prime Trilogy announced as well but at least we got one awesome looking Metroid.
Re: Unbound: Worlds Apart Is A "World-Hopping" Metroidvania Coming To Switch Next Month
@nmanifold you're confusing 8-bit with 2D. Nothing about this game looks remotely 8-bit. Literally more like 128-bit lol
Re: Random: Someone Has Already Got Mario Kart Up And Running In Game Builder Garage
Woah it seems this game is more comprehensive than i thought. And from the initial announcement i thought you couldnt actually share games except over local wifi. I might need to go pick up this game. As someone who is just starting to get into game dev right now this could
maybe even be a fun protoyping tool!
Re: Dead Cells' Free Whack-A-Mole Update Adds "Insanely Large" Weapons, New Mutations And More
Such a great game and the developers are awesome by keeping the updates (mostly free) coming for years with great new content each time.
Re: Activision Confirms Original Dev Is Handling Tony Hawk Switch Port
Might need to get this game when it comes to Switch. Loved the TH games back in the day.
Re: Nintendo Shares Release Schedule For 2021 And Beyond, And It's Looking Pretty Bare
Well this doesn't mean anything. All it means is that they aren't announcing more new games yet and haven't decided on a release date for zelda yet. I expect a big software year this year. We just don't know which games it'll be yet other than obviously botw2.
Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'
He actually thinks Nintendo should take away the feature that makes the Switch unique and along with BotW launched it into becoming a huge success hahaha. Wow. If you wanted to compile a list of the dumbbest things Nintendo could do, this would absolutely take the number 1 spot.
Re: Nintendo Is Permanently Reducing The Price Of Switch Joy-Con In Japan
$60 and no drift is what is needed
Re: Yes, Monster Hunter Rise Really Is Running On Standard Switch Hardware
Re: Switch Can Break The Traditional Hardware Cycle And Become Nintendo's iPhone, Says Analyst
Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is The UK's Third-Biggest Game Launch Of 2020
No surprise that it has amazing sales.
Re: Review: Hades - A Heavenly Trip Into Hell That's Utterly Essential For All Switch Owners
Definitely plan on getting this after i saw it in the recent Direct. Looks awesome. Someone said if you like dead cells you'll like Hades and Dead Cells is my second most play Switch game so I'm looking forward to this. This might be next up after i work my way through the new Mario All-Stars.
Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Will Launch With A Day-One Update
Weird that a game with so little work into it needs a day 1 update. But probably just some minor things.
Re: Surprise! Nintendo Says Its Next Console Is Going To Be Very Much Like Its Other Consoles
Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Mario Game?
Re: Poll: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is One Week Away - Which Game Will You Play First?
I'll play sunshine first because obviously played thru Galaxy most recently when it came out and played 64 the most out of these so Sunshine feels like it was the longest ago.
Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?
The limited run is ridiculous. I feel for anybody who buys Switch the next few years and doesn't have access to this game unless they get lucky and find it used at gamestop or something. The exclusion of Galaxy 2 is worse, but this 6 month stuff is bad too. I'll get it digitally but I'm sure tons of people will want the physical copy. So hopefully they ship at minimum 10 million copies of the game, with the vast majority of that this Fall, so that scalpers get screwed and people who want a physical copy arent forced to get it digital instead.
Re: Here's The Resolution Of Each Game In Super Mario 3D All-Stars
This collection is exactly what i expected other than the lack of Galaxy 2. No Galaxy 2 really stings as its the best game of the bunch and since Galaxy is in here its just like Nintendo intentionally held G2 out just to not give fans the full collectioknwe want.
Games look great in high res, i never expected any other changes and would rather play the original games than some sort of altered versions of the games instead.
So extremely disappointed there's no Galaxy 2 but wil definitely pick this up as its still a great collection and i dont have any of my old systems anymore so i haven't played these games in forever.
Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?
Re: Atari Has Looked To Nintendo For Inspiration With Its New VCS Console
Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Making As Many Games As It Used To?
Re: Review: Ageless - Not Quite The Next Celeste, But Worth A Look All The Same
It definitely looks a lot like Celeste visually and storywise I guess. At least they gave it a unique mechanic as the centerpiece of the gameplay. Not surprised it isn't nearly as good as Celeste, as that game is fantastic!
Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?
Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch
Game looks great on Switch. Only severe graphic will complain, and they probably dont own Switch anyway.
Re: Nintendo Registers New 'Mario Sports' Trademark
Golf and Strikers are the two best Mario sports games so would like to see one of those in the next year.
Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly Release A $250 LEGO NES Console Next Month
@sanderev not at $250. Maybe if it was like $80 that'd be a cool addition to a collector shelf. At the cost of an actual video game system I imagine the sales will be extremely limited. Ask any gamer what they would rather have, a new system or 5 brand new games, or a lego set...for all but the most extreme collectors this product is gonna be a big head scratch as to why it exists.
Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly Release A $250 LEGO NES Console Next Month
I dont see why anyone would ever buy this. All the mario lego announcements seem incredibly not interesting. This will probably sell a few thousand copies to nintendo enthusiasts with money who want to add it to their nintendo memorabilia shelf. You cant actually play with it, either as a video game or a lego set. Its just a lego model you build once and set aside...for as much as you could buy a Switch Lite and game for.
Re: What Comes After Switch? Nintendo Discusses Plans For Future Game Consoles
Re: Dead Cells' Bestiary Update Is Now Live On Switch, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@jimbob298 yes so true. Its that extremely rare single player experience that you can just come back to day after day after you've beaten it, thinking oh I'll do one run and then you end up playing for two or three hours. Definitely among my favorite games ever.
Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles
Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles
Re: Nintendo Switch Is 'Barely In The Middle' Of Its Life Cycle
Re: Nintendo Switch Is 'Barely In The Middle' Of Its Life Cycle
Re: Nintendo President Says More Switch Games Are Scheduled For Current Period
@idrawrobots most games have never been mentioned. In fact the only games that have been mentioned AFAIK are Bayonetta 3, Botw2, and Metroid Prime 4. The reason people believe other games are in development is because we're all pretty sure Nintendo is gonna release more than 3 more main franchise games during the last 3 or so years of the Switch's life. So yeah, obviously there are a ton of games they are working on that haven't been announced yet. Pikmin is likely one of those many games.
Re: Nintendo President Says More Switch Games Are Scheduled For Current Period
