I no doubt helped with that. Having 3 copies and all... 2 for my wife and my Switch lites and one for my OG Switch. We both wanted our own island and an island in the southern hemisphere. 😂
So upon checking mine, looks like I have the same issues: a hairline crack at the screw by the vent and a bit of separation at the volume rocker and another hairline crack at the back left top corner. ARRRRGH! I can say that I take extremely good care of my Switch and have never dropped it. In fact I only charge it like twice a week, which is really the only time it goes in the dock. Otherwise it's in my hard case when I'm not playing it. So it's gotta be a bad batch of plastic in the launch Switches.
@BensonUii I'm not in love with the new art style, but I am digging it nonetheless! I have no major qualms about it. I think I said this in another thread, but I'm willing to bet it looks quite better in motion than it does in stills.
@rjejr that LABO segment came on shortly after Jimmy's opening monologue. After he ran down the order of the show at his desk, he started to talk about LABO and pulled the piano kit from underneath his desk.
He then went on to introduce the video and said something to the effect of "...We talked to our friends at Nintendo and asked what if we got this and could make all kinds of instruments..."
I think that sort of classifies as calling out your sponsor honestly. TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy did come up with the idea and worked something out with Nintendo.
The new Turtles actually look good in motion. I was initially put off by the 2012 designs (I also remember the same hate generated for those as the 2018 Turtles) but the story way more than made up for it, not to mention it was suberbly animated. I'm all for a reboot every few years or so if it keeps the TMNT relevant.
Considering that majority of good multiport adapters generally cost $60-90 and up (with the least expensive ones usually supplying less usb ports) the Switch dock doesn't seem all that expensive to me. Besides, the dock in the US lately has hovered around 60 bucks. I may just pull the trigger and buy one to mod it a smaller size.
@MarcelRguez yea I looked back at my comment and was like, "Hmmm I could have worded it better" lol.
Really the only portion of my comment that pertained to 2k18 was the top part since I was buying digitally anyways. I just think my initial thought spilled into the rest of my comment.
@MarcelRguez that's why I said, "even if." It was more or less a hypothetical comment on AAA games with large file sizes as a whole. Eventually the Switch may start getting games that exceed even the 32GB game card size. So I don't know how that didn't make sense... (though I suppose I could have worded it a little better)
I fall into the camp of "It doesn't really matter" As I knew going in that I was was going to go (mostly) digital with the Switch anyways, so storage issues was always going to be a problem for me. Also the tech head that I am, I already had multiple high capacity micro SD cards laying around.
Though I think some of us are missing the point. Even if the publisher opted for the full 32GB game card. You still have to download the rest of the game seperately, which means you're only buying part of the game when you're buying physcial. I can absolutely see why it doesn't set well with some. Until Nintendo starts producing game carts of larger capacity, we're going to keep having this problem with AAA games (unless publishers opt to use the smaller game cards which then will be on them).
Also, we can't compare this situation to how it's done on the other platforms, given that even if you do have to install the whole disc to local storage, you'll still have access to the whole game (sans online if you don't have a sub) and as we know, and the article points this out, data management is much easier with the other guys.
In the long run, won't make much of a difference to me since I'm not really a framerate snob, but I feel like not aiming for 60fps is a missed opportunity. Paticularly for a sports title.
It was great fun just like the first one, but it still felt like the first one. Which I'm fine with. I played at my office over the weekend with my mobile hotspot and it got me thinking to how awesome the switch that I'm even able to do that!
The only thing I have against the game is the lack of the second screen experience for the fact a game like this greatly benefits from that option, but I'm sure I'll get use to it overtime.
To those who don't want to "double dip" there might not be a choice soon, when they inevitably sunset the Splatoon 1 servers.
@MegaVel91 I'm going to hold out hope for the show, but it's not looking too promising. Really the creators of this show should look no further than the current TMNT show to see how to adapt a franchise that's appealing to both kids and adults. It's got the kids humor, wonderfully mixed in with dark and heavy storytelling. Then for the fans that grew up with the franchise, clever callbacks to all the various iterations.
The video is blocked now but the first comment on the YouTube page was gold!
Allow me to play both sides for a moment if you will. The dock from all my research is priced to market from what I can tell, given that a USB C multiport adapter can cost anywhere between $60-$90 (though I have seen then go as low as 45-50 on occasion and I'm talking about the ones with USB ports, not the single piece with HDMI only) they generally don't come with an HDMI cable for what it's worth.
The other side of this is (which I find as a more valid complaint) is that you have to buy an AC adapter, which suddenly makes the $60 dollar dock $90. That puts the Switch at the high end of the pricing of a USB C multiport adapter.
As for my experience, my Switch has had no problems whatsoever. As with any new device I'm well aware that problems could arise. It happens with every single consumer electronic device out there. Hopefully Nintendo can get all these quality issues under control.
While I'm not too fussed about it not being there, it probably should have been there at launch. With a kickstand, something most phones or tablets don't have without an attachment of some sort, it makes the Switch a perfect multimedia device. Also how cool would it be to watch Netflix in docked mode then say, you wanted to go to another room, you could hand the stream off to portable mode?
If I was a betting man I'd wager they probably didn't want to go through the testing phase of the apps before launch. Just wanted to make sure the system would run games as efficiently as it could. It will come.
I mean as long as all that real estate isn't a replica of the Mushroom Kingdom, I think I'll be excited. (nothing against Mario, I just hope more than that will be the focus)
Honestly, I like this approach better. How many times in the past couple generations has an OEM touted a bunch of features and they weren't ready at launch? And you had to wait who knows how long to get them?
At least this time they're telling us we're not getting yet from the jump. Hopefully though Nintendo has a workaround for hotel log ins, even if it's just a web window that pops up just for that purpose. I travel a lot, and that's pretty essential for me. But still not a deal breaker as I mote them likely have other means of connecting if I wanted to.
@impurekind to be fair I don't see anyone heaping praise for Nintendo (at least in this article) are some excited by a proper battle mode? Yes. But certainly I'm not getting the vibe that they think Nintendo has really pulled something out of the bag. As a matter of fact it seems middling or quite the opposite.
As for me, there's enough additional content for me to warrant a double dip, the main draw for me is the ability to take a console MK anywhere. I'm also of the (unpopular) opinion that the "proper" battle mode should not have been there from the beginning. They tried something different and it backfired. Though yes, they probably shouldn't have tried to fix something that wasn't broken.
But here's something we don't know. We don't know if the Wii U will get a Deluxe upgrade in some form later on down the line or not. At least it hasn't explicitly been said. Granted if it's something that happens, I'd imagine it wouldn't happen at launch, but maybe a few months down the line. Though realistically it probably wouldn't make much business sense.
Would it have been cool to have at least a couple HD rumble features for maybe side quests or something? Yea. But it should be far, far from a deal breaker.
As stated, it was a game built from the ground up for the Wii U, then they took gamepad functionality to have parity with the Switch. Sounds absolutely fair to me. I'd rather them build a Switch Zelda from ground up and implement HD Rumble right instead of it being shoehorned into a game in which it wasn't intended. (See Twilight Princess)
Besides, the real advantage to me is the fact I can take it anywhere. Something you can't do with Wii U. Which is the main selling point of the Switch, not HD Rumble.
From the super brief clip that was shown, didn't look too bad. I figured it would look better in motion than in the promo image way back. I'll need to see more.
@Yorumi at least it was a clearer vision than what they ever did with the Wii U. We all know the main appeal is that it's a home console you can take on the go. I will agree It is quite the shame that they had to dedicate that time to show off the controller as opposed to some of the titles that we got drip fed after the presentation.
And surely you meant "we" as in "I" because I personally don't mind the "gimmicks"
@jimi I remember being so pissed I couldn't play my NES games on my SNES let alone use all my old controllers.
The situation Nintendo is in (of their own doing of course) is the debacle that was the Wii U. They wanted to make a clean break of that family and start anew which is why BC wouldn't make sense.
Now if I have to full price for VC games that's a whole other issue.
@jimi I was giving relative data displaying parity in accessory cost. Whether or not anyone cares about facts, is up to them. Also, Nintendo is not a charity either. It also doesn't change the fact that the accessories are also completely optional, unless you happen to engage in a lot of local play, and you have a paticular need.
@impurekind to be clear, I was merely speaking from the POV of parity in price between the OEMs not the fact you can switch out the batteries on the X1 or Wii controllers. Also, yes I may have exaggerated the fact that people would buy a ton of batteries, but it's not exactly too far out the realm of possibility.
Also to further clarify, I as well have rechargeable batteries around the house but I and some folks (like myself) enjoy the convenience of just plug and play, so I'm not sure how it's a lie to sell an option to a customer. (though honestly I know nothing of GAME)
I honestly don't get all the griping. like others said, just plug it into the Switch to charge? Or invest in joycon charging dock, which charges four of those bad boys? or just buy the joycon charging grip. It charges from the switch anyways, so it's not like that has to be an immediate investment. The battery lasts around 16 hours longer than the DS4. I mean if you have to play when the batteries are low, you could always undock and plug it in via USB, much how other controllers work.
As far as the price for the ProCon, it's well in line with the industry.
-MSRP for DS4 - $60-$65
-MSRP for X1 - $60-$65
and here's the kicker for the XBOX One controllers: Unless you buy a crapton of batteries, you're going to want a Play and Charge kit in which the OEM solution is $25, which jacks the initial investment for an XBOX controller to $85, unless you opt for the controller with Play and Charge which runs for $75 retail. So I'm not too fussed about the cost of extra, optional accessories.
If anything, we'll be charged an upgrade fee. Paticularly on the games that will be online enabled. I'm not too fussed about that. But I doubt I'll be paying full price again if they opt to make me do that. I'll just keep my Wii U plugged up in that case.
@gatorboi352 It's not really the same thing, but I digress. though I do agree with the sentiment that success is largely dependent upon content. Quality content at that. I'd also say the message and the way it's delivered from promotion is just as important. If the message isn't clear, that's also how you get a Wii U on your hands. The message is definately clearer this time, let's just hope they keep that up as it works hand in hand with consumer intrest.
@bluedogrulez here is the clip in question. The Wii U is presented around the 2:40 mark.
C'mon guys let's give credit where credit is due. Sure, they featured on Jimmy a couple times, but it was a totally different set of circumstances. In 2011, they just showed off the console, no Wii U content even ran on the machine, and if I remember correctly, Reggie did a poor job explaining it and it was a over a year before launch. In 2013, it felt more like damage control, being that at the time, the Wii U was floundering, for the lack of advertisement for one, 3rd parties were dropping off, and Nintendo needed to get out the message what the Wii U actually was. The common thread about those two instances, they were a part of "Video Game Week" on his show.
This was an isolated event promoting Super Mario Run, that had a live appearance of the Switch 3 months to launch, almost fresh off the back of a reveal that has everyone talking. They communicated what it was, and actually showed gameplay, from a game everyone is still excited about, that I'm sure fans wanted to see what it looked like on the new kit.
@rjejr I'm just giving you a hard time (per usual). And I totally agree with that. I'm sure Reggie was nervous Jimmy was going to drop the thing or touch the screen (Not that Nintendo would have even enabled the function)
His passion for gaming in general, is pretty well known. So his excitement is very real. As far as promoting it before hand, the segment was to promote SMR, I'm sure Apple wouldn't have been too happy that they would advertise the Switch beforehand. The show is also viewed by 3.5 million viewers (if you put any stock in Nielsen ratings), TTS's Youtube has over 12mil subs, so I don't think that will be much of an issue the way Nintendo went at it promotion wise.
@rjejr I'm surprised that you're not mad that Nintendo lied to us, yet again. however to be fair, If I recall, I don't think they ever said they wouldn't show the switch between now and Jan, just no new info. I'm too lazy this morning to confirm that, so I could be dead wrong.
Though seriously, I was watching live and majorly geeked out when I saw the Switch reveal! Is it me, or did Reggie look nervous when handing over the console to Jimmy? In the close shot of his hand, it appeared to be shaking all bit. Ha
@rjejr I don't think it's poor marketing than it is poor time management on Nintendo's part. I'm thinking they were thinking BotW would be finished by now. In Zelda's 30th anniversary year no less. Though Nintendo still wanted to release something more than TPHD this year.
All in all, we got an amiibo from every major Zelda style this year (Wolf Link, Original Link, Toon Link and OoT Link) the only Zelda amiibo we didn't get was SS Link, which you could argue we'll get with the BotW amiibo. If you look at it from that angle, the odd amiibo appearance makes a little more sense.
@rjejr also, we've known about Nintendo's system for so long, there's no excuse for anyone to not have saved up any coin (only half joking) I already have my piggy bank fund for both the switch and Scorpio

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Briefly Addresses Topic Of Carrying Over Online Purchases To Switch
If anything, we'll be charged an upgrade fee. Paticularly on the games that will be online enabled. I'm not too fussed about that. But I doubt I'll be paying full price again if they opt to make me do that. I'll just keep my Wii U plugged up in that case.
Re: Video: Watch Jimmy Fallon Play Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch
@gatorboi352 It's not really the same thing, but I digress. though I do agree with the sentiment that success is largely dependent upon content. Quality content at that. I'd also say the message and the way it's delivered from promotion is just as important. If the message isn't clear, that's also how you get a Wii U on your hands. The message is definately clearer this time, let's just hope they keep that up as it works hand in hand with consumer intrest.
@bluedogrulez here is the clip in question. The Wii U is presented around the 2:40 mark.
Re: Video: Watch Jimmy Fallon Play Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch
@gatorboi352 @therealgamer

Re: Video: Watch Jimmy Fallon Play Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch
@rjejr I'm surprised that you're not mad that Nintendo lied to us, yet again. however to be fair, If I recall, I don't think they ever said they wouldn't show the switch between now and Jan, just no new info. I'm too lazy this morning to confirm that, so I could be dead wrong.
Though seriously, I was watching live and majorly geeked out when I saw the Switch reveal! Is it me, or did Reggie look nervous when handing over the console to Jimmy? In the close shot of his hand, it appeared to be shaking all bit. Ha
Re: The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo Provide Food and Goodies in Breath of the Wild
Re: Takashi Tezuka Wanted Super Mario Bros. 3 To Use An Overhead Perspective
@aaronsullivan you must have missed the rumor that the Switch will also double as a fudge maker...
Re: Nintendo Switch Presentation Dated For 12th January
@rjejr also, we've known about Nintendo's system for so long, there's no excuse for anyone to not have saved up any coin (only half joking) I already have my piggy bank fund for both the switch and Scorpio
