Like everyone else said, it was a great game that did the survival horror/zombies correctly. Sad that it didn't get the sequel... Hopefully they'll consider it for the NX. Or at the very least a Nintendo funded sequel.
Perhaps if we ever get a sequel, they could advertise it during The Walking Dead (provided it's still on in some form) . That's just marketing gold/genius.
First off. I'm confused to how this article is click-bait. Every large piece of news like this has had a Talking Point article, so there's that.
Anyhoo, I don't think Nintendo is that clueless as to delay a big holiday game without something taking its place. I'm still of the mind that a surprise game or two is coming, most likely in the form of Metroid (yes, I'm sticking to my prediction from yesterday). Or perhaps we'll get some remastered Gamecube games. I mean afterall, we do have these GC adapters hanging around. Heck, they could decide to remaster Twilight Princess.
If anything, a nice little price drop/bundle could also do the trick to get more units in people's hands over the holiday. Whatever the case, I'm sure there's some type of plan in place. You don't do something like this without looking long and hard at the effects it would have in the term. Of course this is Nintendo we're talking about, so you never know.
@Kuhang it's not accepting it blinding more than it was almost to be expected by the majority, being that Zelda in paticular gets delayed.. All. The. Time. I can totally see it sucking for those who only have a Wii U to game on. But for folks like myself, who are multi-console owners, it's less of a blow to us I would gather, as we have other things we could play.
Plus, things like this doesn't get me riled up really. The biggest parallel can make is Arkham Knight getting pushed back a couple of times. I've been waiting on that as much as Zelda and it's nothing more than a minor annoyance.
@rjejr I did verb you! Seemed like the right thing to do. I got the inspiration from whoever mentioned you in another article about your rampant speculation.
As everyone else said, I'm not too shocked about the delay, and if a better game comes out of it, I'm all for it. It's not the first Zelda (or game in general) to be delayed. Of course it didn't stop me from feeling like this when first reading the news:
Because you know I was hoping beyond hope that it would actually make the 2015 window. At least this solves what will be 2016's big game. As it is, I got enough games across the big three that will keep me busy this year.
Being that I never got to play TTYD, a remake/port would be welcome. Instead of arguing whether it should be a handheld or home console I submit this: It'd be another nice experiment in cross buy. In one of two ways - Buy on the system of choice and get the other one for free, or for a discount if they want some sort of ROI for developing for both systems. And darnit, make it GC adapter compatible!
@Grumblevolcano eBay prices aren't really that high, unless you're looking for a sealed or perhaps flawless copy. A "good" condition copy you can fetch between 30-70 depending on condition I'm assuming.
@JaxonH that's the one thing I can appreicate about Nintendo, their remakes are at least 2 generations old. Or at the very least if it is a last gen title, it's ported to 3DS as opposed to the Wii U.
Blah! Well I just bought mine off a friend for 18 bucks! Oh well, no biggie. It's what I would've had to pay if I brought it online. Plus it's probably the universe evening the score for scoring my Peach and Yoshi Super Mario amiibo for 9.88 at Walmart the other day. (they had those mixed in with their Smash variants and apparently had been overriding the price all day)
In any case, I hope that means we'll finally get a pre-order date for Wave 4 in the US, so I can cancel my order from Japan.
@outburst no problem! Super Mario Luigi looks great! Definitely double dip on that. Also, I like the Super Mario Yoshi. It looks better than the Smash equivalent, he's bigger and livelier as well (though do love the pose on the Smash one).
Bowser you can flip a coin on. The difference is marginal. Hand positions are ever so slightly different. His Mohawk is darker on the Smash variant and he's a bit smaller as well. The two were so similar I almost picked up the wrong one when I picked up my Super Mario Bowser at the store. Hope this helps you with your other ones.
@outburst she looks kinda derp when you hold her that close to your face, but when just looking at her normally, (sitting on a desk and whatnot) she doesn't look too bad. I actually prefer the Super Mario counterparts as they appear a bit more lively to me.
This is a pretty refreshing review. It's nice to hear some contrast on the in-game value of amiibo. All too often we hear they are pretty useless across titles.
Of course this is coming from someone who has yet to use any one of his 35 amiibo on something other than desk/shelf dressing and hoping for the random 50,000 rupee prize in Hyrule Warriors. but still refreshing nonetheless.
@gcunit that's part of the quote I was thinking about this morning. If you take the full quote, you can sort of see the writing on the wall (parts Quorthon'd for emphasis ) . Here's the full excerpt:
"Having said that, however, in the current environment surrounding smart devices, we feel that we will not be able to gain the support of many consumers unless we are able to provide something truly valuable that is unique to Nintendo. Accordingly, I have not given any restrictions to the development team, even not ruling out the possibility of making games or using our game characters.
"However, if you report that we will release Mario on smart devices, it would be a completely misleading statement. It is our intention to release some application on smart devices this year that is capable of attracting consumer attention and communicating the value of our entertainment offerings, so I would encourage you to see how our approach yields results."
So he sort of alluded to the fact that Nintendo was exploring going mobile, so as long as they could do something unique. Fast forward to the DeNA announcement. One thing we can be sure of is that there were no plans to release existing games to mobile, which obviously means their catalogue of past and present titles, as said at the beginning of his quote last year.
"We feel that simply releasing our games just as they are on smart devices would not provide the best entertainment for smart devices, so we are not going to take any approach of this nature"
Of course, if I do enough hunting, I'll find the quotes where it was said that releasing Nintendo games on mobile would damage their IP, but even that could be interpreted as "existing catalogue." I know Iwata (and Shiggy) has said at one point, there were no plans to release mini-games (or something to that effect) on smart devices.
My thoughts? I don't think it's lying more than being ambiguous, (But can understand why it would be interpreted as lying) as obviously the business climate can change in a heartbeat and would be wise for Nintendo to adapt. I just think perhaps Iwata should choose his words carefully as was said above. It will definitely leave less room to be misconstrued. My hopes and worries from earlier still stand.
@Yorumi I really hope it doesn't lead to that, as if there was any developer that could make a killing in mobile, it would actually be Nintendo. The end of dedicated hardware would honestly be a sad day for me. But I would still game on...
I'm holding out hope that Nintendo is on to something here and it all pans out. If I was to wager a best guess, the next couple years they'll do the bare minimum for their current hardware. They'll let this DeNA thing ride them out until NX. At that point they can exploit the partnership to it's full potential.
@Yorumi I can't remember your exact stance, but I believe you're against Nintendo going mobile, yes? If so I can understand your point. I'm of the mind that I'm personally for it, as it pertains to mobile tailored games and not full-fledged dedicated hardware games. My main fear is that it's going to take away more development resources from hardware games. And let's face it, they're saying it won't impact that part of their business, we all know it is. I just hope they aren't spreading themselves too thin. You have your 3DS, Wii U, and QoL. Now DeNA and NX. Seems like alot for a company that's practically going at it alone. Did I go way off base? Haha
@Cyberbotv2 perhaps Iwata should be more silent, but then again he is the voice of the company. I think he's just sort of losing on the balancing act. It surely can't be easy to try to please shareholders and consumers at the same time. Especially on the consumer front where you have some of the most passionate (crazy?) fans in the video game industry. Lol
@Yorumi yea, I don't disagree with that sentiment at all. I'm assuming maybe they didn't want to play their hand? Who knows.
Though I swear I thought they said they said somewhere along the lines of they were looking into ways to leverage mobile to point people back to dedicated hardware. Perhaps this partnership is an extension of that? Paticularly since Nintendo said they were looking into expanded licencing for their IP.
It may be an about-face for Nintendo, but I'd rather them stew over it, be late to the party and get it right rather than them rushing into something like this and they fall flat on their face.
The comments section on these articles alone shows that no matter what Nintendo does, they can't win. (unless you're a super fan).
EDIT: Not to say that they're aren't even keeled people out there. There just seems to be not many. Lol
(gasp) Alex used "unique" and "Nintendo" in the same sentence!
Though seriously, I for one am pretty excited. I too, am like Ron. I spend a lot of time going solo, with few exceptions, heck the majority of my Smash playing time has been solo, but I gotta say this game has me pretty hyped, almost more so than Zelda and XCX. I have a feeling once I get used to the controls I'll be hopping online with this puppy. Hopefully the game lives up to the hype!
@CharlyDunst with the fantasy/comic book genre as big as it is I actually could see Zelda working. Especially if you get someone who passionate and respectful of the IP. Bonus points of they could manage a film where Link didn't say a peep.
Super Mario is the type of movie/series that simply doesn't work as live action. Can? Yes. It would actually pretty kick butt. But live action? Nah! Unless it's this gem:
@Captain_Gonru "Compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC one is more fragmented than the Zelda timeline"
No truer words have been spoken. Don't get me wrong, I would have preferred that they at least alluded to Batman existing, but the show-runners said as much that Batman doesn't exist in the Arrowverse, so they've written themselves into a corner. Then again, they said the Lazarus Pit didn't exist either, but there it is in some form the last episode. So there's that. Though the main problem is that with Batman rouges, some of them don't exist without the existence of Batman, though I suppose a case could be made for Ras.
The problem is with DC is the licensing of their IP on high. As it stands, Their TV and Movie universes are separate, so some characters fall on to the "no-no, you can't use that on your show" list. Batman and some of his characters are usually on that list unfortunately, Which is why Harley Quinn isn't on the Suicide Squad anymore and more disappointing, we're not getting the rumored Arrowverse show, because DC suddenly wants a movie. (Also I think Gotham has the TV rights to Batman characters, except Batman)
Disney/Marvel is much like Nintendo with their IP - very calculating, deliberate and careful with how how it's used. (see I can stay on topic too! Haha) It helps that they had a plan to connect everything from the start. DC is much like the Nintendo that's late to the party and scrambling to get everything together. Or the Nintendo that ever allowed "The Wand of Gamelon" I'm not knocking DC per se, because I love the characters, I'm just giving a parallel to the handling of their characters.
@Ainze I can't speak on the over the air transfer as I already had a micro SD, but I had absolutely no problem getting the back off of mine. It's probably a case of folks not taking care in removing it. That said, it could stand to be a stronger grade of plastic, like on the backs of the Samsung Galaxy phones.
Not a big deal. A 64GB, class 10 micro SD can usually be had for $25. 32GB is usually significantly less. They're always on sale somewhere. As for me, I may just go physical. Downloading a file that big may take an eternity on on a 3DS, also I want something in there to protect the cartridge port.
@nintendofan83 as everyone else said, 500GB is extremely paltry for the PS4 and XB1, think you're safe on storage if you buy physical? Think again. Unlike the Wii U/3DS there's a mandatory disc install.
@Captain_Gonru Nice! I'm with @rjejr, I'd watch it too! I've tried the whole fan-fiction thing, but I kind of suck writing other people's characters, or rather my creative juices doesn't flow as well, so I try to suck with my own (I write/draw comics with my sis) I have written some pretty good Power Rangers stuff however. Haha. BTW, great parallel with Nintendo and DC. (I hate the new Superman look too!)
As for Arrow, I personally didn't care that they took some creative liberties. It kind of makes it a better show for me. I just view this interpretation as an alternate dimension or "Earth" as they call it in DC lore.
@rjejr I actually get what you mean about The Flash. It was purposely written to be lighter than Arrow, but strip that away and the mandatory CW "teen angst" characterization, it's a good show at it's core. Though of you don't do funny, then you'll probably never like it. I've been meaning to check out Constantine, but I heard rumblings of it getting cancelled, so I just wiped out from my DVR.
@KyleJ39 you managed to get a pre-order. You my friend, are the the lucky one. Funny thing, it was 830am when I got mine, and apparently they had been sitting out since midnight. Makes me wonder if people cared about them in the first place, at least in my area.
@NandN3ds it's all speculation. And folks like to speculate. The hybrid thought is no more gibberish than saying the next hardware will be a handheld, being none of us know anything right now (though a handheld is more likely to be correct)...
I'm cautiously optimistic. This could be the turning point for Nintendo if they get everything right. As long as Nintendo keeps making hardware, I'll be happy with them exploring the mobile space, maybe they'll actually develop mobile games I can get behind when it's inconvenient to whip out my dedicated handheld.
The thing that worries me, and I said this in an article the other day and that @Quorthon has touched on, is the timing of the NX. It's going fall halfway into Gen 8, which to be fair, will be the lifetime of of a typical Nintendo console, but the XB1 and PS4 will be hitting it's mid-season form. I'm excited nonetheless, but I'd just rather concentrate on getting what I can out of my Wii U and 3DS with so little info on pretty much everything concerning DeNA and the NX.
"Completely 100% agree. And furthermore I dont need my behaviors tracked."
Digital or physical, your activity is being tracked anyway so as long as you have an account (be it PSN, XBL or NN) the bigger issue with an all digital future is ownership, really...
@Quorthon my comment was more about the timing of NX in relation to Nintendo's hardware release cycle than about the Steam machines really.
Though concerning them, unless I missed something, my dedicated gaming PC runs all the above and I can hook it via HDMI if I choose to. I do see the promise of Steam Machines, but right now it just feels like a redundant piece of hardware in the limited space I have left underneath my TV. This fabled harmony you speak of is still probably a long ways off so as long as the big three have their own philosophies on hardware and innovation in the console space. Though I don't doubt there will be some sort of convergence at some point. As a rounded gamer that usually gets all the hardware each gen, I whole heartedly agree that the logo box love is rather dumb and would be nice to see one box that truly does it all.
The war will truly never go away, as the battle will shift from the hardware to the each publisher's software. You underestimate the power of fanboyism. Haha
@Quorthon I don't see the big deal with the steam machines, they seem way to overpriced and do the exact same thing a laptop or tower can do Nintendo consoles usually always have a 5-6 year run so this is to be expected anyway"
Pretty much this. The one thing I worry about is if this NX is a home console, it looks like it's going to release around halfway through the PS4/XB1's life cycle, which I'd imagine both will have some sort of price reduction/redesign by then. Making the NX a tough sell at full price. However like @MoonKnight7 said, if the handheld is in there somehow, perhaps that would help the situation all around a bit.
Like a couple others said in here, it's just Nintendo delivering on their statement that they were goning to use mobile to leverage dedicated hardware. I'd imagine that takes time to put together. Also it delivers on the licensing their IP statement. The whole shares exchange also gives them a boost in their war chest.
@Josaku agreed. Advertising the games would have gone a long way in helping Nintendo out. The amiibo commercial I saw yesterday was probably the best one they had so far (MK8 and SSB notwithstanding) but they need to go beyond Nick, Disney and Cartoon Network. They would do well to advertise in primetime on other networks. Bayonetta 2 for example would have been perfect to air during the Walking Dead or the like. But they decided to just air it during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, which isn't bad, but it's also not as visible a target.
Concerning the article, yea, the Wii U won't make it to PS4 and XB1 hardware levels, but that's okay so as long as they continue to make a profit and go hard on creating awesome content with the life the system has left!
@larry_koopa I wonder if they'll use the same model they have for Dance Central Spotlight? It was 10 bucks and you got a handful of songs to start you off with the option of buying DLC packs. All your previous DLC carried over as it became available in the new servers.
I've never owned it on any system, but from what I understand, the Wii version had a good audience. Party games do well on Nintendo systems (look no further than Ubi's Just Dance) So I don't understand the logic of not developing one for the U.
@NbaJunkie why can't it happen? Nintendo themselves said they're looking into cross licencing opportunities, which is how we got to Puzzle and Dragons and Hyrule Warriors. Shovel Knight seems like a great game to feature a Nintendo character, given the popularity of the game. Though you're right in that the game stands in its own...
@Quorthon you shut your mouth about Game and Wario!! No seriously spot on. To add, Darksiders II was also pretty decent and one of the only titles that had most of the DLC included.
@unrandomsam yeah they half-assed a lot of the Wii U ports. Even the decent one were hampered by not getting DLC or having it pulled. Not to mention they were late ports for that most of everyone had already played on the other systems. Which is probably part of the reason why the exceptional Need for Speed poorly sold.
Though to @JaxonH point, I'm thinking Nintendo will just continue to be the supplement system to the other two, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, unless the fanbase dwindles down to unsustainable levels. Which I doubt, but on the other hand, they still need to do something to get 3rd parties on board, even if they opt to co-publish some titles.
@Quorthon strange enough, I don't have it yet. It was on my list, but never got around to it because it didn't seem like my cup of tea. After buying and messing around with Tomodachi Life, I think I might get more enjoyment out of Animal Crossing, than the former. So I'll probably end up getting it this month.

More than anything, I wanted to see Captain N. Though I'm sure that's a pipe dream....
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
Re: Planning On Downloading Xenoblade Chronicles 3D? You Might Need A Bigger microSD Card
Re: Planning On Downloading Xenoblade Chronicles 3D? You Might Need A Bigger microSD Card
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
@KyleJ39 you managed to get a pre-order. You my friend, are the the lucky one. Funny thing, it was 830am when I got mine, and apparently they had been sitting out since midnight. Makes me wonder if people cared about them in the first place, at least in my area.
Now I await my Toad in the mail!
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
@NandN3ds it's all speculation. And folks like to speculate. The hybrid thought is no more gibberish than saying the next hardware will be a handheld, being none of us know anything right now (though a handheld is more likely to be correct)...
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
@rjejr woah, woah, woah. Stop right there. What's wrong with The Flash?
Please @Captain_Gonru, tell me more about this fan-fiction...
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
@Acein210 lol for once, I didn't have a problem getting a store exclusive amiibo. The Walmart I went to had six, sufficed to say I was pretty amped!
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
@Priceless_Spork
Digital or physical, your activity is being tracked anyway so as long as you have an account (be it PSN, XBL or NN) the bigger issue with an all digital future is ownership, really...
Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'
Haha
Re: Nintendo Teases Cross-Platform Club Nintendo Successor In Conjunction With DeNA
@sevex of course it could very well be a handheld. If that's the case I'm pretty sure they're building it with the next home console in mind.
Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'
"@GraveLordXD said:
@Quorthon I don't see the big deal with the steam machines, they seem way to overpriced and do the exact same thing a laptop or tower can do
Nintendo consoles usually always have a 5-6 year run so this is to be expected anyway"
Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'
@erv
Lol. Nintendo just can't win with some folks. Doomed if they do, doomed if they don't
(see what I did there? )
Re: Nintendo Set To License All IP to Mobile Publisher DeNA
Like a couple others said in here, it's just Nintendo delivering on their statement that they were goning to use mobile to leverage dedicated hardware. I'd imagine that takes time to put together. Also it delivers on the licensing their IP statement. The whole shares exchange also gives them a boost in their war chest.
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Highlights Nintendo's Strength in Franchises, and Goal for Wii U to "Stand Up To Time"
@Josaku agreed.
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Highlights Nintendo's Strength in Franchises, and Goal for Wii U to "Stand Up To Time"
@Boerewors I agree with you I love my Wii U and put out some of the best games of all the 8th gen platforms so far. In the limited time I have to play video games per week it gets the most attention (outside of my XB1,but only because it defaults to the main input with my TV). I don't mind new Mario, Zelda and Pokémon games personally, but Nintendo fans in general need to start picking up games that are more outside the box. As a rounded gamer who plays on every platform available (though I've yet to get a Vita) I want to see Nintendo do more with its dormant IP or create new ones. Though the catch 22 is that, they seem to be less willing as when they do step outside of the regular staples, they tend to sell less. Look no further than the awesome W101 and Bayonetta (though the latter sold within expectations I believe) We gotta show we're willing to buy outside the norm. With that said XCX and Splatoon looks like games to be reckoned with this year.
Concerning the article, yea, the Wii U won't make it to PS4 and XB1 hardware levels, but that's okay so as long as they continue to make a profit and go hard on creating awesome content with the life the system has left!
Re: Reminder: The Hyrule Warriors Boss Pack DLC is Now Available in North America
Hyrule Warriors: The game that never ends...
Re: Harmonix Explains Why Rock Band 4 Isn’t Coming to Wii U, But Doesn't Rule it Out
@larry_koopa I wonder if they'll use the same model they have for Dance Central Spotlight? It was 10 bucks and you got a handful of songs to start you off with the option of buying DLC packs. All your previous DLC carried over as it became available in the new servers.
Re: Harmonix Explains Why Rock Band 4 Isn’t Coming to Wii U, But Doesn't Rule it Out
I've never owned it on any system, but from what I understand, the Wii version had a good audience. Party games do well on Nintendo systems (look no further than Ubi's Just Dance) So I don't understand the logic of not developing one for the U.
Re: Don't Seethe Too Much Over Xbox One Shovel Knight Getting Battletoads, We Might Get A Cool Crossover, Too
Tingle confirmed.
Re: Don't Seethe Too Much Over Xbox One Shovel Knight Getting Battletoads, We Might Get A Cool Crossover, Too
@NbaJunkie why can't it happen? Nintendo themselves said they're looking into cross licencing opportunities, which is how we got to Puzzle and Dragons and Hyrule Warriors. Shovel Knight seems like a great game to feature a Nintendo character, given the popularity of the game. Though you're right in that the game stands in its own...
Re: New Nintendo 3DS Undone by Dragon Quest Heroes and PS4 in Japanese Charts
@Quorthon I got G&W for free during that Mario Kart 8 promo last year. Suffice to say I haven't even booted it up yet. Ha. As far as the quality thing, I don't think Nintendo fans (the reasonable ones) think that all their games are top notch and infallible, they just get more right than wrong a pretty large portion of the time. If you don't mind the various iterations of Mario Zelda and Pokémon. Naturally you'll have the fanatics that will tell you Nintendo can do no wrong. But those types are in every camp.
I may need to look into this Splatterhouse though. I can't say I've heard of it for some reason...
Re: New Nintendo 3DS Undone by Dragon Quest Heroes and PS4 in Japanese Charts
@Quorthon you shut your mouth about Game and Wario!! No seriously spot on. To add, Darksiders II was also pretty decent and one of the only titles that had most of the DLC included.
Re: New Nintendo 3DS Undone by Dragon Quest Heroes and PS4 in Japanese Charts
Re: New Nintendo 3DS Undone by Dragon Quest Heroes and PS4 in Japanese Charts
@Quorthon strange enough, I don't have it yet. It was on my list, but never got around to it because it didn't seem like my cup of tea. After buying and messing around with Tomodachi Life, I think I might get more enjoyment out of Animal Crossing, than the former. So I'll probably end up getting it this month.
