I'm sure 3DS will be back up there in a few weeks time. Lol. It's crazy that games like Smash and more impressively Animal Crossing still make the top 20 after all this time, but then again, they don't call them evergreen titles for nothing. Also when you're selling 30K+ systems combined in any given week, then some of those valuable titles tend to creep back on the chart or tend to hang on...
Though I'd love to see some more third party games this year, so hopefully there's some surprises we don't know about.
@Justin83593 I use them to get prizes on Hyrule Warriors and I unlocked the MK8 outfits, but I haven't used them for much else, haven't even touchd them for Smash Bros, save the New 3DS version just to see how the well it worked with it.
@GhotiH you know what? That's a pretty nifty idea. It's a way to get into the smartphone market that would drive consumers back to their software/hardware. Tapping digital amiibo to your new 3DS on the go or Wii U if you aren't by your amiibo (or at your friend's house) is even more convenient and infinite than even the cards. It's not like it would devalue figurines, as that's a collector's item. Heck, the smartphone app could have cool little bios of each of the amiibo, what games they're in and what games (and features) they are compatible with! That sounds like a gold mine to me!
@Iggly I usually fly through most CN surveys. If I have nothing of of import to say I just keep the answers short and sweet:
CN: "Name one or two things you are looking forward to experience with game X"
Me: "The fun"
@MasterWario if it makes you feel any better, the fighting genre wasn't represented and to be fair, there was an other option that asked you to specify.
@JaxonH very well said! I wanna collect them all, but I refuse to line the pockets of scalpers in that way. So I suppose I'm not getting a Gold Mario and you know what? I'm fine with that. It's something in not losing sleep on.
I have noticed that with the exception of a select few, it appears most amiibos posted on eBay have come down significantly on average selling price. What used to be $80+ looks like is settling down in the $25-40 range. Hopefully folks will heed your advice and leave these scalpers sitting on a bunch of gold Mario's they can't push.
@JaxonH I saw the link you posted and signing up as I type this, thanks! You're awesome! I'd rather pay extra to a forwarding service than to be raked over by scalpers and help line their pockets! (okay, I did it once, but the guy needed up breaking even... Lol)
If you're in the US, I'm not sure a forwarding service is needed Amazon UK, I was able to register my US account and order. I got a Sonic and Mega Man ended up being around $20 each. Unless you have your reasons for needing a forwarding service.
@JaxonH wait. Explain how this works. When you sign up for a Tesco account you can order stuff and it will ship from Amazon Japan? Or is that two different methods you use to pre-order? Also, I'm gathering it's too late to pre-order Wave 4? I know I was able to do so with Wario, Charizard and Super Mario Toad from Amazon UK, but no luck on the Lucina, Robin and Ness.
But I'm with ya, I've just started looking overseas, Primarily from Amazon UK. When I thought GameStop screwed me out of my Mega Man and Sonic, I found them across the pond for little more than what it would have cost me for GameStop's value shipping here in the US.
I wonder if Walmart will be wise enough to cancel the pre-orders scalpers made and re-open pre-orders with a limit. I think I'll send ol' Wally a tweet/email...
@TingLz pathetic? Probably. But that's 1300 more Xbox One owners that Microsoft didn't have last week. It's sort of how I look at the Wii U and it's overall situation in the marketplace.
@Chaozrush21 of course the best way to avoid a flamewar is not throw gasoline on it. There are some things I agree with him on. Others that I think he's off the mark. The important thing is that if you (generalizing you... Not meaning you, personally) can't handle it it's best to not even respond. Or make your argument and move on. Perhaps an intelligent dialogue will come out it.
@gcunit but isn't everything made based on a concept? But I think I know what you're getting at. They kinda just come up with concepts half-baked. The Wii Remote Plus is what the original should've been. I don't really have qualms with the Fit Meter. I still use that every day. I can't think of how they could have made that any better, outside if somehow utilizing NFC for data transfer...
Of course I think at least this time with QoL, it appears they're not rushing to release it. So it may come out a fully formed and realized idea.
There's nothing wrong with being traditional, I just think they need to find that right balance between that and keeping with the times. They're so slow at it detriment to their image. That said, I'm glad they are not jumping into the mobile bandwagon, but at the same time a game like Pokémon Shuffle, probably would have made a killing if released as an iOS/Android app. I kind of think that's what they're scared of. If a game of theirs makes it big in that platform, people will call for more, investors and the lot will add additional pressure to release more for mobile, as their claims would be validated.
Concerning the Wii U's woes, the damage is done on that front. There's no need in me recapping well documented issues. All they can do at this point is ride it out, market the heck out of their key titles and mend the bridges with third parties ahead of their next system launch.
Personally as gamer and not a "Nintendo fanboy" I enjoy the heck out of my Wii U... I'm not sure why people can't think that without being labeled as such...
My collection is about complete. The only ones I'm waiting on now are Dedede, Ike, MegaMan and Sonic I'm waiting on GameStop for those and haven't seen them anywhere else, so as a precaution, I have doppelgangers on dispatch from Amazon U.K.
I've had a relatively easy time getting the amiibo I wanted. As I've said on here before, my hardest get was Wii Fit Trainer, but I ended up getting her with Peach for 28 bucks off eBay, which actually amounts to MSRP after taxes.
I lucked up on Diddy and Mac at a Gamestop and Target across from each other. Falcon and Pit I used the nowinstock website to alert me. I ordered the former on Amazon and the later from GameStop on Christmas.
The only one I paid above MSRP was Lucario, as I had to have him imported Even still, $25 bucks isn't bad. I lucked upon a Rosetta and Chiko at an import shop on an out-of-town excursion. The package was severely damaged, so I scored it for 7 bucks. Meta Knight and Shulk were the only exclusives I've had a smooth time procuring. I've everything past wave 3 pre ordered so far, I just wish they'd give us an inkling of an idea of the U.S. dates for the pre-orders for the 4s that's not the Super Mario line.
@k8sMum hopefully I'm not lumped in all that. I said it fits in my pocket, but it's from a purely anecdotal POV, I realize just because it works for me doesn't mean it works for everyone.
@Platypus101 I'm in the opinion, as I've said yesterday, that Nintendo is holding off until later to release the Standard. Given supply problems, retail space and Nintendo trying to hit profit margins for the fiscal year, I honestly think it's more about having a focused launch. The port strike I think exasperated things and changed the game plan around the US launch. I see your point, but I'm not sure about the car analogy. The problem is they've offered choice with the original 3DS family. The "new" line, as it pertains to NA, that choice is being taken away at the moment. I think those that want the new hardware, have a right to to be upset about it. I personally don't think it's unreasonable for folks to want a call to arms to those who are willing to fight with them. That's how recruiting works, right?
@justinr the the core audience is fractured because Nintendo decided to not release a product that a portion of the fans desired. All the bickering back and forth is due to people having a strong opinion one way or the other on the situation amongst some of our fans. I agree. It sucks that those that wanted the standard feels like they are being fleeced. I also agree that despite our preferences we, as Nintendo fans should stick up for one another and get together to communicate to Nintendo. Even if it was to score a limited run of standard 3DSes
@Platypus101 this seems like something only Nintendo fans would do: have a faction war... Lol. Though Damon Baker didn't help things by generalizing the "core" audience. Being that obviously no matter how big or small it is, the ones that prefer the standard size 3DS, for whatever reasons, is just a fraction of the core audience. I'd consider myself part of the core audience, but I prefer the larger screen.
@rjejr telling them that it's coming later would hurt initial sales of the new XL, as those that want the standard model would likely hold out for that one instead. Afterall, they want as many sales as they can before the end of the fiscal year.
@daveh30 yea, I've never had a problem getting the XL in my pocket. I'm one of "those" guys, but it even fits in my skinny jeans. Naturally, there's a bit of a bulk, but nothing too bothersome. Overexaggerating here, but compared to the original Game Boy, the XL is practically an iPhone. Lol
@ottospooky I've had the exact same thought. Especially if it plays into the current supply issues at the moment and them trying to keep a tight grip on margins. amiibo is hard to come by, and now the n3DSXL is. Introducing the standard model alongside the XL, probably would've just caused a headache for everyone. So it was pretty much in Nintendo's interest to give NA a focussed launch. Concentrate on the XL (and it's special editions at first) then do a secondary launch for the smaller variant with all the faceplates galore for the second half of the year (announcement at E3 or surprise direct). Tell everyone, "Due to popular demand, we're bringing the standard new 3DS to NA!" Show off cool faceplates. Gamestop offers bonus trade credit for n3DSXL. Everybody wins.
Nintendo gets their profit while finally making those who cried for the standard happy. Gamestop gets used n3DS XLs to sell for profit from those who traded it in for the standard one. And those who wants to buy a used n3DS XL (at a cheaper price) they can.
Of course that's wishful thinking and Nintendo could stick with what they have going on, continuing to piss of the vocal minority in the process. Which is probably what's going to happen. For what it's worth, while I'm fine with my Red nXL, I'd go for a standard one with the faceplates. Though I'm not sure if I could deal with the smaller screens.
The Verge seems like they are just now reporting on the port strike (in relation to Nintendo) as well. Though this memo lines up with why I haven't received a call from GameStop yet about my other wave 3s that I was to get sometime between now and Friday and also why I never got my mail order Shulk (though I did get my ship to store order).
@JaxonH honestly I saw the Gamepad criticism as testimony to how great the game is visually. You want to take in the beauty of the game on your HDTV, but since you're always moving, then it forces your attention almost exclusively to it. Which begs the question, would this title have been better suited on the 3DS?
Eh, I kinda wish they didn't sell them with the controller either, but considering I got my first one for 7 bucks, it doesn't bother me. I'd rather go official. I need the second one for my weekly Smash parties! I'm looking at it this way, I'll have an extra controller should I have one that gives up the ghost on me. Lol
@rockodoodle I've been thinking about that, and it would seem like a no-brainer for Nintendo. They could even adopt a Tee Fury style model have orders for amiibo open for a period of time, then when that window closes, print and ship them en masse. Though I don't know how economically feasible that is, as printing T-shirts are a heck of a lot easier than molding a figurine surely.
@dandantheman100 Ahh that's what I thought. I've only ever checked Amazon UK, it's where I was able to pre-order Wario, Charizard and a couple of Toads. The Super Mario line opened up for pre-order a some-odd weeks ago in the US and I initially missed out on US Toad (that I eventually got in) but still have yet to hear about pre-order for the other Wave 4s. I wish Nintendo would announce pre-order dates for these things, all these small sporadic pre-order Windows are extremely hard to keep up with. Haha
Probably the best Nintendo can do right now is appease the shareholders and the current install base. Continue making games (let then speak for themselves) and hope one of them strokes gold and drive more units. If they hype their big three right this year (i.e. Xenoblade, Splatoon and Zelda U) and throw in a few surprises, we could probably see an uptick in console sales. Nothing major, mind you, but respectable enough to ride them through another year of Wii U. If I was to hedge a bet, they're waiting for E3 to dole out any surprises they may have in store.
As far as Wii being labeled "a runaway success" I don't have a problem with the terminology. It was a success, at least hardware sales wise, if nothing else. It put a boatload of cash in it's coffers, and made investors happy. So there's that.
@dandantheman100 has Ness ever been open for pre-order in the States? I know it has across the pond, but I missed the window and didn't get a chance to...
@rjejr I'm not quite old enough but my older brother was big into gaming. He had all kinds of those LED games (that he has since passed down to me). It was one of my first gaming memories. That and the Sega Master System he brought home from South Korea.
I'm just now getting back into handhelds the past few years. I never realized how much I missed portable gaming until I got my 3DS XL, as the last portable I had was an Advanced SP. I even went back and picked up a DSi to try and catch up on what I missed.
Part of the allure for me is that life had gotten extremely hectic for me the past few years, so a lot of my gaming habits have taken a hit. Portable gaming has become my quick, easy fix. It so happens it's pretty darn fun!
@ThomasBW84 I'm not sure about you, but even the Wii U almost has that portable allure to me. I don't know if it's because I'm skewing more towards portable lately, but in my solo play time when I get to game at home, I play my Wii U off-TV almost exclusively. Obviously I can't in situations where I need both screens.
@JaxonH "Sequels almost always sell better on a platform because the previous game built a fanbase already, so I imagine a Nintendo-exclusive Bayonetta 3 would easily hit 1 million sold in the first 6 months."
I agree. If I didn't have a Wii U already, Bayonetta 2 would have sold me on getting one, because I rather enjoyed the first one. But wherever 3 (or the spin-offs) go I'm following as well. The only way I see Nintendo not getting a sequel is if someone else ponied up the cash for publishing rights.
Like a couple others said, I'm hoping for a W101 sequel as well. I think it could happen with Nintendo's next console, provided they put some actual marketing behind it next time and if the package the first game with it, à la Bayo 1/2.
@HyperSonicEXE I pre-ordered my n3DS, so I got mine, but even I was surprised that GameStop only had enough for pre-orders. Regardless of how small Gamestops are, there should be no excuse for them not to have at least a few for walk-ins, being it's a specialty store. For what it's worth, in my region, they were sold out everywhere as well. Though the one Walmart I went to this morning had just one.
I feel ya on the charger thing. I've only ever had one 3DS, which means I've only ever had one charger. I thought ahead and bought a cheap $3 charger from eBay and used that in my trade in. I found out later that they would take my old XL sans charger, just deduct $10 from my trade-in.
My GameStop wouldn't allow folks to transfer in store, so I was out of luck on that front, so I ended up buying a used 2DS last week to do a system transfer to that and back onto my n3DS this morning. Then I just returned 2DS afterwards and picked up my games with my refund. Very convoluted method on my part, but it got the job done. Luckily, I've been using a micro SD card already that cut my transfer time to about 15-20 minutes.
EDIT: The crazy part is that my GameStop only had like 3 people in the store when I came in to pick up my 3DS. One was buying a PS4 and the other two were looking at PS4 games, so they oversold how busy they were going to be (which was the reason they gave for me not doing the transfer in-store)
I ended up getting the red one... It's a beauty!!! It made me not feel so bad about not scoring a MM 3DS. But damn if it isn't a fingerprint magnet. What's up with Nintendo and finger grease prone hardware? Lol
I'm hoping the cards come soon... Seems like a natural fit for the 3DS, being that cards would be portable. I can't imagine very many people on the go wanting to lug their delicate plastic figurines with them all the time.
@abe_hikura I think a Skylanders game is coming as well. I think a good middle ground for people not feeling ripped off is if they went an updated Wii Fit U model; Offer the game for low cost or free if you already have several amiibo or amiibo cards.
Very rarely has a score influenced my buying decision. It's more the body of the review that does it for me for games that I was unsure of in the first place. I feel that sometimes the score betrays review or vice versa. As someone pointed out, I prefer the Kotaku review system, as they follow the game after patches and what not.
I agree, NLife reviews does become a rather lengthy read, but to be fair, they do add a TL;DR section, it's called "Conclusion" It's a pretty brief really (it's shorter than some of the comments we as a community post. Myself included lol).Though I'd like to to see a pros and cons bulletpoint type conclusion myself, that's just nitpicking on my part.
@Spoony_Tech unfortunately, it was the manager I was talking to. She's new. And a dumb-dumb. The whole staff is really (a complete turnover of the last staff) She didn't even know how the system transfer works and why everybody was asking if they could trade in their DS and transfer the day of. Otherwise, I would have just did what you suggested. Lol
@Spoony_Tech @Prof_Clayton I took a more convoluted approach since my GameStop won't let me do the system transfer in store, let alone get a refund of the difference.
I bought a used 2DS on Friday when the store opened I did the system transfer in my car then traded in my XL towards my N3DS (and paid it off while I was there. So this Friday I'm going in to pick up my n3DS, transfer everything from my 2DS to my new system then go back in and return the 2DS.
It works out for me that way because I was going to use that 100 dollars I spent on the 2DS this past weekend on Zelda and and my amiibos anyways.
The process of the system transfer is simple enough, but they could streamline it more for people who bounce around (or sell) different 3Des. It seems like it would be so much more convenient if you could initiate from the source have everything (licences and whatnot) transfered to the memory card, lock or encrypt it to the SD. So it can't be used until it's all uploaded and locked to a target system. That's assuming of course if they're not down for the cloud...

Lol
Re: Talking Point: New Nintendo 3DS, Operation Faceplate NA and the Bigger Picture

@TeeJay lol
Re: Reported GameStop Memo Shows Massive Delay in Delivering Some amiibo Pre-orders
Re: Review: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Wii U)
@JaxonH honestly I saw the Gamepad criticism as testimony to how great the game is visually. You want to take in the beauty of the game on your HDTV, but since you're always moving, then it forces your attention almost exclusively to it. Which begs the question, would this title have been better suited on the 3DS?
Re: Pre-orders Now Open at GameStop for the Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter
Eh, I kinda wish they didn't sell them with the controller either, but considering I got my first one for 7 bucks, it doesn't bother me. I'd rather go official. I need the second one for my weekly Smash parties! I'm looking at it this way, I'll have an extra controller should I have one that gives up the ghost on me. Lol
Re: Gold Mario amiibo Set to Shine as Walmart Exclusive in North America
@JaxonH Haha I know right, I don't even want it, but I gotta have it because I've collected everything so far... I'M ADDICTED!
Re: Card Format amiibo Confirmed to be Heading our Way This Year
@rockodoodle I've been thinking about that, and it would seem like a no-brainer for Nintendo.
Haha
Re: Reaction: Satoru Iwata Holds Off on Major Announcements as Investors Appear Settled
Re: Card Format amiibo Confirmed to be Heading our Way This Year
@dandantheman100 has Ness ever been open for pre-order in the States? I know it has across the pond, but I missed the window and didn't get a chance to...
Re: Soapbox: Portable Gaming Forges a Special Relationship With the Player, and Nintendo is the Master in the Field
@rjejr I'm not quite old enough but my older brother was big into gaming. He had all kinds of those LED games (that he has since passed down to me). It was one of my first gaming memories. That and the Sega Master System he brought home from South Korea.
Re: Soapbox: Portable Gaming Forges a Special Relationship With the Player, and Nintendo is the Master in the Field
Re: Yusuke Hashimoto Outlines His Desire to Continue the Bayonetta Franchise
Re: Poll: Are You An Early Adopter With The New Nintendo 3DS?
Re: Poll: Are You An Early Adopter With The New Nintendo 3DS?
I ended up getting the red one... It's a beauty!!! It made me not feel so bad about not scoring a MM 3DS. But damn if it isn't a fingerprint magnet. What's up with Nintendo and finger grease prone hardware? Lol
Re: Eiji Aonuma Admits That Remakes Such as Majora's Mask 3D Can Be a Painful Process
@khululy Nintendo should embrace their missteps. As a matter of fact, CD-i Link should have been a playable in Smash...
On second thought, Nah!
Re: Reaction: Super Smash Bros. amiibo Support Shows That NFC For The New Nintendo 3DS Is No Gimmick
Re: Ubisoft's Unreleased and Finished Wii U Game Has Apparently Been Identified
"What do you think? Would you like to see Ubisoft release this game eventually?"
Ubisoft can keep sitting on this game as far as I'm concerned. And spin. What I want is at least another Rayman.
Re: Poll: Do Video Game Reviews Need To Have A Score?
Re: Nintendo Provides a Handy Quick Guide to Completing a New Nintendo 3DS System Transfer
@Spoony_Tech ahhhh yea! That probably would've been idea. All the years I gworked in retail, and I didn't think to go over her head lol
Re: Nintendo Provides a Handy Quick Guide to Completing a New Nintendo 3DS System Transfer
Lol
Re: Nintendo Provides a Handy Quick Guide to Completing a New Nintendo 3DS System Transfer
