What the likes of @Mr_Muscle and @BarefootBowser seem to be failing to understand is that, when a society condones the censorship of "unimportant" things, it will inevitably lead to the censorship of important things. Those governments that censor real-life violence and harrass the press? They probably started out by censoring things that were on the same level as anime tiddies.
A very mature and humble response from producer Yu Sasaki, especially in an age when the popular response to criticism in the entertainment industry is "Shut up, you entitled man-babies!"
The Japanese cover art is the one which best conveys that the game is a scrolling beat-'em-up, with the two heroes in the foreground squaring off against a multitude of baddies in the background. The North American and European covers, on the other hand, mainly feature two dudes staring at eachother, which might mislead consumers into believing that the game is a one-on-one fighter.
Glad to hear about the improved camera and sword hit detection in Aladdin, since those were two of the main things which turned me off from Virgin's Genesis version in comparison to Capcom's SNES version.
(SNES Aladdin will still have the better level design, but that's just because this is '90s Capcom we're talking about)
@Moroboshi876 Ironically enough, this game would warrant those kind of comments far more than Streets of Rage 4 ever did. (yes, I'm still salty about that)
For the Japanese names, I do a sort compromise between Japanese and English, where I use what's basically the proper Japanese pronunciations, but with emphasis on the first syllable rather than the second. Just sounds more natural to my English-speaking sensibilities.
"PO-kay-mon" instead of "po-KAY-mon", for example.
@Galenmereth Useful idiots like you who defend PeTA, and the even more useful idiots who keep giving them money, are the main reason they haven't gone under.
And yeah, PeTA "plays an important role in keeping tabs on animal rights" just as surely as the Chinese, North Korean, and Saudi Arabian governments keep tabs on human rights. 🤣
If they're gonna continue pulling scummy sh** like they did with CTR, then I'd rather that Crash, Spyro, and whatever other retro IPs they own stayed dead.
@ThatDaveGuy Imagine a new Mario game with a photorealistic or gritty artstyle, and also there's blood and swearing. That's kinda like what this game is. (Except, you know, in reverse)
@brunojenso
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
Bomberman: Act Zero
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Chibi-Robo! Ziplash
DmC: Devil May Cry
That upcoming Commander Keen mobile game
And if you look beyond video games, there's also:
Loonatics Unleashed
Teen Titans GO!
Thundercats Roar
She-Ra and The Princesses of Power
Dragon Ball Evolution
Wayside (animated series VERY loosely adapted from Wayside School)
Tim Burton's Charlie & The Chocolate Factory
Pretty much all of the Disney live-action remakes
@brianvgplayer "The original Gold Key comics from the 50s are as different from the N64 games as this game."
No. That's false and you know it. The 50s comics and the N64 games aren't exactly the same, true, but you can look at them side-by-side and tell that they're related. This, on the other hand, wouldn't even be recognizable as Turok if it weren't for the name.
It would be pretty convenient to have all these games in one collection. I only ever bothered to buy Samurai Shodown II on the eShop, because it's the one with Cham Cham in it.
@Jriibz It'd at least be too much for this game in particular, seeing as how the female kombatants have had their own sex appeal noticably toned down in comparison to past iterations.
Oh, and for everyone yearning for Bubble Bobble on Switch, (trust me, I'm yearning right along beside you) in the meantime I recommend looking into this little hidden gem by the name of Whip! Whip! https://youtu.be/fCu-GW4C7BA
It's basically like a Bubble Bobble game, except that the bubble attack has been swapped out for a magic grappling hook oven mitt followed up with a Falcon Kick.
@Charlie_Girl Yeah, how could anyone assume that such a hot piece of booty is anything other than female?
EDIT: ...ok, so I originally had attached an image to this comment of Piranha Plant with the Super Crown on (think Bowsette), but apparently the mods edited it out. So, just use your imagination, I guess?
So this "Backpack Kid" is the one to blame for Flossing? I would've guessed that it was invented by Greg Heffley trying to look like he knows how to dance when he doesn't.
@Hikaru So you decided to be THAT person, I see. But don't worry; I'm sure your comment will get you the attention of a nice, small-breasted fox babe and it'll all be worth it.
@GameOtaku It has nearly every Capcom original beat-'em-up, including two previously arcade-exclusive games, with the only omissions being the Final Fight sequels and Dynasty Wars. (and Dynasty Wars kinda sucks, anyway, so I won't miss it)
As for the ones based on external IPs, such as Alien Vs. Predator and The Punisher, it would take a liscensing miracle for Capcom to get all of those in one collection.
@Sanangelo89 I've always imagined that, were a Zelda game to feature a futuristic sci-fi setting, the green tunic would be translated into a jacket or vest a la Han Solo, or perhaps a space-knight's suit of high-tech armor.
@Alber-san My personal theory is that BotW is the one game in the series that's completely factual of the world of Hyrule, and that all previous games are old legends about past heroes, which may either be based loosely on history or purely fabricated. This would explain why Link in BotW has a more realistic experience with such things as breakable equipment, stamina, weather effects, and realistic physics, while the heroes of old are seen with more exaggerated abilities such as smashing rocks by picking them up and throwing them, or effortlessly scaling tall cliffsides.
To put it another way, all past Zelda titles are Disney-esque adaptations of Hyrule's history and lore, and BotW is a current-events documentary.
@Moarbrains You're right, I doubt their apology was genuine, anyway. They probably just realized that insulting potential customers and telling them not to buy your product = less money.
If Skullgirls had been released on Wii U, how much do you guys wanna bet the tagline for NL's review would've been "...'Cause, baby, you've got U and Wii"?
Aw, sweet! This game was on my "wish it would come to Switch, but it's probably not worth holding my breath for" list, but it's now becoming a reality. I guess dreams really do come true sometimes!
I really wouldn't recommend this game, especially at full price. (I got it for free, and I still feel ripped off)
It's fun for a little while at first, but it gets old really quickly, and there's practically zero replay value. It's not one of the worst games ever made, like its predecessor has a reputation for; but there are so many far better games to play, on Switch or otherwise, that there's just no reason to waste your life on this kind of mediocrity.
I don't have any higher hopes than anyone else for this cartoon to be any good, (in fact, I'm predicting that it's going to be really awful, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong) but since we're also getting a brand new actual Mega Man game soon that's looking pretty sharp so far, this show being bad won't feel like as big of a betrayal as it otherwise might have.
Looks like the various issues with this game have been fixed and the price dropped to match other arcade rereleases on the eShop. Flying Tiger might not have gotten things right the first time, but they know how to listen to feedback.
I was debating with myself whether to get this or Moon Patrol this Thursday, but I'm not about to pay $2 extra for mandatory filters and an incomplete moveset, so it looks like it's gonna be Moon Patrol for me.
Neat! I'm very fascinated by Atari 2600 games from a historical perspective. (too young to have played them when they were new) Some of my favorites include Breakout, Yars' Revenge, Maze Craze, RealSports Volleyball, and Dodge 'Em.
I believe they made the right call.
Think about it; who were the most iconic gaming protagonists during the late '80s, right before Sonic came to be? Mario, Link, Samus, Mega Man, Simon Belmont. All humanoid characters. The fact that Sonic was not only an animal, but a somewhat obscure animal like a hedgehog, was something that made him stand out from the crowd.
...You know, until the crowd started to directly imitate Sonic.
As a fan of the first and especially the second Dark Witch games, let me just say what a disappointment this one is. They basically watered it down and over-simplified it to the point that it's not fun anymore. No more Mega Man-esque weapon system, you can only have one item type to use during a stage, the power-ups have been reduced to just speed, wing, and shot width, and the stages themselves are more tedious than challenging.
If you're planning to play any game in the Dark Witch series, just skip this one and play Episode 2 instead.
