Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase has served up a Switch title early on in the form of Marvel's Midnight Suns, an intriguing game in the Marvel universe that's due to launch in March 2022. Switch is listed along with pretty much every console (including PS4 / Xbox One), and there's no suggestion at this stage that Nintendo's system will get a 'cloud' version.
Though the trailer above is a cinematic showing off some famous Marvel characters, this is actually a tactics RPG from Firaxis Games, which is best known for the XCOM and Civilization series; hopefully that strategy genre pedigree, and the fact this is coming to Sony and Microsoft's last-gen hardware, means we'll get a solid experience on Switch.
There's no gameplay footage yet, but there will be a gameplay reveal on 1st September. In the meantime below is some PR blurb.
When Hell awakens, only they can stop it. Rise up and join a darker order of heroes to defeat Lilith before the Darkhold is complete in this tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe.
Are you intrigued by this one? Let us know in the comments!

curious to know which Ghost Rider that is.
hoping for Robbie Reyes, will settle for Frank Castle.
Might be able to hook me in once gameplay footage drops.
Looks bad ass.
I'll get it, but on PC.
@CharlieGirl DEFINITELY Robbie Reyes. Look at the way the skull looks
Glad this is coming to Switch. Really cool premise and nice to see a tactical RPG Marvel game.
I can not wait for this game! Omg. This is going to be amazing. =)=)=)
Genuinely surprised they're doing Midnight Sons. Love seeing people like Blade, Lilith, Wolverine and Illyana Rasputina show up.
Glad it's not a lazy cloud version like Square Enix pathetic Guardians of the Garbage.
Interesting character choices. I'm intrigued.
Wish we had a beat em up style Marvel game not like the Square Enix game or Ultimate Alliance 3.
Something about most of the RPG style games feels kinda blah, honestly. I'd give anything for Platinum Games to make a Marvel game.
Yes please. Looks good. Blade is always welcome
Hyped for this but hoping the gameplay is good! Trailer was awesome!
@Longondo Marvel isn't just movies. Midnight Sons is a pretty big part of their comic continuity
@CharlieGirl Jokes on you there is only one true Ghost Rider - Nicolas Cage.
not sure why Logan, Stark, Cap, and Danvers are here. Seems like those slots should have gone to others like Moon Knight, Wiccan, Helstrom, Dr Voodoo, Wanda, Doom, and other similar more-magical heroes
@Longondo this isn't associated with the MCU. Very few of these characters have even been on screen yet
Looks pretty cool. But then again... we haven't seen any gameplay, so I'm not impressed yet.
please don't be an cloud version
Nico Minoru and Magik is great but WHERE’S WICCAN
From Firaxis, the developer of Civilization and XCOM. And both Civilization VI and XCOM 2 were competent Switch ports.
I can't wait to have an actual Marvel Tactics game from them on Switch!
This system is an absolute beast for strategy games. Soon Advance Wars releases, then Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Project Triangle Strategy and now Marvel Midnight Suns, and probably a new Fire Emblem soon also, on top of all the strategy games already on Switch. It's nuts.
Putting 3DS and PSP to shame.
@Mando44646
Because we’re stuck in the hell where any Marvel game that isn’t Spider-Man has to cater to MCU fans above anything else,
Loving all the Marvel games coming out. Haven't picked up Avengers yet but will do soon. Guardians later this year and then this too. Epic.
My only question is why ruin Enter Sandman?
@eltomo Agreed. Bland and cringey.
Would you rather have a notoriously huge file size from you regular 2K game, or have a lazy cloud version of a game which costs full price? Pick your poison.
Art direction/style has me interested! Not a super huge strategy guy but I'll probably still grab this one at some point.
I'm glad for Marvel fans. Something, which I am not unfortunately.
@Itachi2099 Wow you're right. That's cool though. I always love replaying and 100% this one
@Specter_of-the_OLED I don’t even care if the Square Enix Guardians game is cloud on Switch. After what happened to Marvels Avengers, I am not really excited for it.
Also is this XCOM marvel game from 2k if it is then I guess 2k will try their best to fit it on Switch hardware based on their history with Switch. Hopefully it runs good on switch and hopefully no cloud needed
@ModdedInkling probably the first option
@Arnold-Kage from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like a cloud version will be there for Switch but instead Switch will get native version. For now of course, things can change.
Also this developer worked on XCOM and Civilization 6 and both games has decent switch ports and 2k in general had made pretty good switch ports so I do have hopes it wouldn’t be a cloud version.
But the downside of good and competent switch ports of 2K games is that they tend to have large file sizes
It's nice to see comics-version Marvel heroes, I feel like everything is MCU these days. I'm a big Firaxis fan, so I'm awaiting the gameplay trailer with bated breath, and hoping for a LOT more playable heroes.
It would have been awesome to see some game play in that trailer.
The most Important part of this trailer is the Alessia Cara and The Warning's "Enter Sandman" redux. The Warning is an incredible band from Monterey Mexico. Check them out.
@russell-marlow Im with you on this mate
Good to see that breathy female goth covers of the greatest hits of the '80s and '90s have made their way to video game trailers.
I’m interested. Just would rather it not be a tactics game. I’d like to have a bit more control of each character.
Is this the Hydra summoned Lilith?! Woah....
Actually seems like it could have real potential
(but I prefer the oiriginal Metallica soundtrack for the trailer, ha!)
Hopefully it is a physical game and not a cloud stream on the Switch like Guardian of the Galaxy is going to be.
@TYRANACLES I was super hyped until I read its a tactics game and COMPLETELY lost interest.
@JasmineDragon There will be lots more heroes to play as, all you'll have to do to unlock them is open your wallet. You know they will milk the hell out of people by dribbling out characters as DLC.
@Mhayes111387 Oh, there will definitely be paid DLC involved. There's no way that won't happen. But I'm hopeful that the base package will still be a complete game and have a wide enough range of characters. Firaxis haven't disappointed me yet. Fingers croased this won't be the first time they do, because I love the Marvel characters amd there are some great ones here.
@anoyonmus
Yeah , but you never know these days . I mean the guardians of the galaxy did not look nearly as good as this , and that was revealed to be cloud based game.
So began to fear that this would likely also be an cloud game
@Arnold-Kage I would be ok if it is cloud version if 2K at least tried to put it on Switch natively but they couldn’t but they still want to put it so they go with cloud.
Control is understandable if it is in the cloud considering the game barely was able to run at 30 FPS on Xbox One and PS4.
If a game is too demanding on PS4 and Xbox One like barely runs at 30 FPS then the switch version would be cloud version
I mean it is 2K to be honest. One of the few Western 3rd party developers who actually put effort into their switch ports like 95% of the time. So maybe 2K will try to go native but if they can’t then they will have to go cloud
@anoyonmus
I hear you , but sometimes it makes no sense why some games are cloud versions , and others are not. So all I had to go on was the visuals.
And think we can both agree this game looked way better then the guardians of the galaxy game that was announced at E3.
Still yeah out of western developers they are one of an few who do an good job. Still not like we got that many western 3rd party companies who put games on the system.
As the only other one who supports the system that is not from Japan is Ubisoft.
Looks surprisingly interesting for a Disney approved Marvel project.
@Arnold-Kage from reading the Eshop website it appears that Virtuos, the port specialist who ported Bioshock and Borderlands (I think) and also XCOM 2 to Switch will be porting this game to switch as well
@CharlieGirl the developers said it is the current Ghost Rider so it is Reyes
@motang it’s not a cloud game at this moment. And also I read the Eshop listing and there is no mention of cloud in it.
Also Virtuos appears to be handling the switch port. They had ported Bioshock, XCOM to switch too.
As for physical copy, I don’t know about that as 2K games on Switch are notoriously take up a lot of GB on the console
@anoyonmus nice
@anoyonmus
That's good news
