I jumped on the CastleVania and Contra games for $5 each! A real steal! With the Arcade Classics though, anyone else have any compelling reasons to get it besides the NL review?
Already bought it at launch but please release volume 2!
I already have Castlevania and picked up Contra at that price. The only reason I can think of to get the Arcade Classics is that as a Brit taking advantage of the US e-shop, you can't use a European debit card or paypal account to pay and there's still $5.01 left of the $10.00 prepaid card I bought from playasia in the first place. Unless somebody knows of something better to spend my dollar on?
Well, I guess I’ll finally get the Contra collection.
Might grab the contra collection. Loved the castlevania collection to bits
These are a steal
@Severian
The arcade collection is a real mixed bag, with some of the games bordering on bad (though even the Castlevania collection has a bad game too).
With that said, Gradius, Gradius II and Salamander are stone cold classics and might make the collection worth it for those two alone at the discounted price. Think of it as getting Gradius, Gradius II and Salamander for $1.67 each. Does that sound worth it to you?
I picked up the Castlevania collection. I think it's time I stop wholesale ignoring this entire franchise.
Own both, there is weirdness with screen size options if I recall, 4:3 no bigger than pixel perfect which is a minor annoyance.
Also the controls for the Megadrive Contra are awful and you cannot fix in game, have to use the system level button mapping.
Again just a minor annoyance but a bit lacklustre for a M2 made collection.
@RushDawg When you put it that way, along with the fact I like Twinbee...I think that's a good pitch! Thanks!!!!!!
I bought all their 3 collections already at 75% off on EU store.
Third is Konami Arcade classics.
Have they added button remap on the Castlevania collection?
Or have they added the rewind feature?
Great games great sales! However my buying stops at Castlevania which I already had since day 1. Contra would be my next choice but like Ghosts and Ghouls, I can’t even get past level 1. I’ve tried. Many times...
Somehow I can’t get into either Ghost n Ghouls or Contra but I absolutely LOVE the Dark Souls franchise. Hell, I beat the first one...
anyway, might buy the Contra collection for that price just to have it. But maybe not.
I still reckon the Contra collection should have had Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra in place of the 2 Probotector games, but 5 quid for some of the best run n' guns ever made is a steal.
Just be wary the emulation for Contra 1 Arcade is pretty bad.
@DoctorYoghurt The best way to buy US Eshop credit is E-cash vouchers from Amazon. You get them at cost price too. You just need to set a US address on your account and make it your primary one, at least till you've made the purchase. I use my UK Revolut card for making payments, no foreign transaction fees.
There's also this site which sells Eshop codes for various countries like US, Mexico, Japan... It costs a little bit more but not much.

They have been 75% off a few times in EU. Guess US hasn't had this deal before? More people can now enjoy these classics at a budget price. Picked up all 3 last summer at 75% off and played Castlevania for about 30 mins and that's it. I'm a sucker for a deal.
Just waiting on Konami to release a collection of the GBA and/or DS Castlevania games...
I know I am kinda lame and not at all old school but I would love for them to make Castlevania DS collection for Switch. My Portrait of Ruin card has stopped working and that's the one that got me into the series.
As cheap as they are, I'm holding out for LRG's physical release of the Castlevania collection. Ideally, I hope they include all three collections on a single cart.
Such am awesome deal for the Castlevania Collection! Absolutely loved playing it & would recommend anybody that loves metroidvanias to pick this up. $5 bucks is a no-brainer!
@Silly_G What happened to the physical version? Seems like ages ago LRG announced it. Will pre-order the minute it's up.
@Quarth I’m pretty sure it’s still coming, but you almost can’t ignore not having a digital backup copy at $5!
Already had the Contra collection , picked up the other 2. $5 bucks come on, Just to good to pas up.
You know im most impressed with the “Gradius” collection, does have Tate mode and the JP versions of the games now and find the menus to be a bit nicer than on the Contra / CV collections. Having fun with Twin Bee and there’s enough variety here to keep me busy when I’m in the mood for this type of game. Castlevania arcade is absolutely awful though
Also love that the Contra and Castlevania collections include the GB games. Those are all new to me.
Great news.
The Castlevania and Contra collections are good old retro fun, you honestly can't go wrong picking them up at the discounted price. I just might pick up the Arcade Classics collection, as it's the only one I don't already have.
@DoctorYoghurt I recommend Downwell for $3. I hear Aegis Defenders is good too, and I recently saw it on sale for $5.
All 3 were day 1 purchases for me. Still waiting on Limited run to release CVA physically like they announced last year. Either way, seeing my fav box art to my fav game on top of nintendo life is reason to celebrate.
I’m another one holding off until LRG releases the Castlevania Collection on cart.
Another 10 months or so (?) and $45 should do it. 😓
These eshop sales make me think I should get my head examined.
@Magrane Yeah, I know, but it's for the US, right?
Getting Castlevania for sure.
I'd get the arcade classics if only it was not only in the US
@Severian I own it on XBox and wouldnt recommend
@WaveWitch
I was actually referring to Castlevania Collection Volume 2. For that I want to see Symphony of the Night, the ultra rare Castlevania Legend for Game Boy along with the N64, GBA and DS titles.
@ChromaticDracula Don't buy it for the sake of buying it. I looked at it too, but then I remembered I cannot play these games very well at all. I just picked up Castlevania and have no fear of missing out on contra.
These were 75% off in the EU eshop like four times already, but they are awesome collections, everybody should get all three.
Also, Goemon collection when.
@ChromaticDracula
"Contra would be my next choice but...I can’t even get past level 1. I’ve tried. Many times..."
Is it possible you've never heard of the Konami Code? For shame! Please leave your gaming credentials at the door.
Hey konami, with all that money you are making from that train game in Japan for the switch, how about a brand new 2d Casltevania or Contra game for the switch?
Just got the Contra and Castlevania collections, so many great titles for a fair price.
Konami needs to give us a collection of the Metroidvania Castlevania games. Not sure why they are throwing money away.
I should really get all of these. I could go for some simon's quest, contra and life force.
With an 50$ eShop Card for 38€ from seagm you get another 20% discount.
I just bought it like the Contra Collection (for Hard Corps). Would be nice to have the N64 Versions too.
The only one I was missing was the Arcade Classics Collection. At 75% off I figured it would be worth picking up for the couple that I had an interest in trying...
I had been looking at these games, but haven't bought them yet. Now that they are on sale for this price, I jumped at it, and bought all 3. But I also noticed that the Aladdin/Lion King double pack was on sale for $11.99 too. So I bought all 3 Konami Collections and the Aladdin/Lion King double pack. So, good times all around. Can't wait to play them all.
Still hoping for a Castlevania Collection Vol. 2 personally.
Castlevania is great just to play the two 16 bit games. I actually made it through most of castlevania 2 just out of spite for the bad reviews, it's great with a guide.
@Quarth : My guess is that they might still be in the process of procuring/negotiating with manufacturers for a possible special edition.
I'm sure there have been a number of other releases announced last year that are still yet to surface.
All we need now are games like Darius Collection to go on sale. I had it on my wish list for almost a year. Still full price.
I just purchased the castlevania collection and although many of the best titles are absent this is a fantastic collection that introduced me to a surprisingly amazing game with kid dracula which is the newly translated game in the pack. Highly recommend emulation is better in this pack than the others as well (done by the talented folks who made the sega ages games)
At $5, this collections are cheaper than Arcade Archives, which features only one game. Definitely, a no-brainer purchase if you still haven't it in your collection. I bought it at full price and didn't regret it one bit, after all if you want Konami to make more of these, you have to make it worth their while.
Still disappointed that Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night aren't included in the Castlevania collection.
@duffmmann Yeah, those two are on PlayStation in their own collection unfortunately. Brilliant games though.
@nessisonett yeah I know, why haven't they released that duo collection on any other systems though? Like it'd be one thing if they were also in this collection making the release of those 2 games separate on the likes of the Switch redundant, but they're not, and so the 2 pack of arguably the best games of the series needlessly remains exclusive to Sony.
@MontyCircus oh, BELIEVE ME, I’ve used The Konami code but the game is just still so damn hard! I’m all for 1-hit kills and stuff but I just have a hard time with Contra.
I can deal with Mega Man (NES), Dark Souls, Metroid (NES), RC Pro Am, Battletoads.... ok Battetoads gets tough as nails too... but Contra is just WOW.
@steveputer thank you- I’m glad I’m not the only one views these with an air of question.
If I feel like I have to use codes or game genie to beat something then.... like... I feel like something’s “off” with the balance somewhere
@duffmmann It does feel a bit silly. Perhaps Symphony of the Night being a PlayStation game means that the emulation of that system on a Nintendo console would throw up legal issues? Although they could always use the Sega Saturn version in that case. But then that version wasn’t translated for a Western release! Who knows 😅
Ugh, I got them at 50% off, but oh well. Knew I should've waited.
I wish Konami would release a bundle of localized Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.
Still longing for a Igavania Collection. Having SoTN, CoTM, HoD, AoS, DoS, PoR, OoE and Harmony of Despair in one nice bundle on the Switch no less would be a dream come true.
@Thegaminggeek Still longing for a Igavania Collection. Having SoTN, CoTM, HoD, AoS, DoS, PoR, OoE and Harmony of Despair in one nice bundle on the Switch no less would be a dream come true.
Got the castlevania collection but I can't really get used to the outdated gameplay. It's just way to frustrating for me. I'll just stick with bloodstained.
Guess it will be the same with the other collections.
I remember playing Scramble on my Vectrex. It was so hard!
I had no idea Konami had created it.
Good deal. Glad I didn't buy the expensive LimitedRun version.
I will pay 75% more than the list price I paid if they correct the mistake of omitting the PC-Engine and X68000 games from the Castlevania collection. 😜
Release more please!
I've been holding out for a physical release (at the very least, through Limited Run), but I just couldn't pass them up for 5 dollars apiece. Ended up playing through Contra twice, Super C once, and the Japanese version of Contra once last night. Good times!
@Vortexeo thanks! I miss that band so much.
@Quarth oops! I’m sure the UK may have a similar deal soon...?
