A sentiment we've shared in Nintendo Life Towers, and we suspect is also shared by a number of Switch owners, is that Capcom is on a roll. In this calendar year we've had Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection and just recently the brilliant The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. A mix of new titles, sequels, reimaginings and remasters that have all done well. Add Resident Evil Village into that mix and it's been quite a year.
The company has now published its Q1 financial results - yes, it's that time already - and reported record sales and profits. Both net sales and net income were up over 100% from the equivalent period last year, as momentum from key releases pushed the results forward.
Resident Evil Village, a new release during Q1, was cited as the main driving force as it passed 4.5 million units. Monster Hunter Rise was also mentioned specifically, though no updated sales figure was given; it was confirmed in late May to have passed seven million copies shipped. Rise will continue to have updates in the coming months to drive attention, recently confirming some lovely Okami-themed content, and of course will also launch on PC next year.
We'll possibly get a sales update on The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles in the Q2 results, it'll be interesting to see how the critically acclaimed release does across multiple platforms.
Let us know what you think - have you been enjoying Capcom's games this year?

Great for Capcom. Now it’s time to give us a Megaman X and a new Okami.
Also, well deserved, RE8 is one of the best I’ve played in the franchise. And I’ve played them all.
Good job, Lady Dimitrescu!
Yeah... still remember the time when people said that it wouldn't sell as great as MHW... it already outsold it per platform where the highest sales are on PC with around 6 millions.... Wonder how it will be when we get the ultimate edition and a PC release as well
Great news given the doom and gloom that was surrounding them only a matter of years ago in terms of financial position.
I still find it bizarre they released Monster Hunter Stories 2 so close to Rise, that surely had to have cannibalised a lot of sales.
@Rob3008 I don’t think it did. I prefer Monster Hunters Story 2 to Rise. I didn’t even get Rise. It’s a different type of game.
Capcom have always made brilliant games, with a few blunders here and there. They deserve the success.
You got to remember we are looking at years of programming all landing in the same financial year.
Monster hunter rise isthe only game i evercpllay multi player. Usually i hate playing anything online but for some reason i like the co op feel of taking down a beastie together.
Great news and well deserved.
While SMT V will probably be my favorite game this year, Capcom is the Switch's MVP overall in terms of support. Third parties are really coming through this year.
“A mix of new titles, sequels, reimaginings and remasters”
Uhh, there are ZERO new titles listed in the article. They are ALL sequels, though I guess you could call GnG Resurrection a reimagining and Great Ace Attorney a prequel.
Regardless, Capcom is not putting out new IPs anymore and they haven’t for some time. They are absolutely on a roll with their sequels, compilations and HD remasters but I wish they’d take a chance on a new IP or two as well.
Well deserved with all the quality titles they've been churning out. I picked up Rise earlier this year and enjoyed it, and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles mysteriously showed up in the mail recently. Hoping to pick up Monster Hunter Stories 2 in the near future.
Capcom on fire. Every game is a banger. And they're dropping nonstop on Switch.
Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter Stories 2
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Resident Evil Switch (leaked)
Monster Hunter Rise Ultimate (leaked)
And I'm gonna say it- Ultra Street Fighter II on Switch is my favorite SF game and my fave fighter of all time. I don't care how much ppl hate on it. That game is phenomenal. I love SFII and that game takes the best version and adds amazing Udon art sprites... it's incredible.
And RE Village will be hybrid also once I get my Steam Deck.
@Rob3008 March 26th to July 9 is over 3 months apart, it wasn't that close. If the games are done, release them and get paid. MHS2WOR was probably done earlier and they held it back until July so it wasn't too close.
Also as @River3636 said, different games for a different audience. I played MHR, got Stories for my kid for their birthday.
I’m glad it’s been a good year for them as I genuinely think they put out excellent games. Still, with all this extra cash laying around, Maybe Capcom could spare a small team to finally port the Disney Afternoon Collection to Switch.
@JaxonH USF II is the *****, I love it! I'd love Capcom to port RE2 Remake, I'd double dip for it.
@Edu23XWiiU
RE2 isn't coming, but we are getting a Resident Evil built ground up for Switch, that may be timed exclusive alongside PC (said multiplatform with Switch as lead platform, but later info suggests it could be console exclusive for a while- either way, as long as it's designed for Switch ground up that's what matters).
Monster Hunter Rise is my GOTY, this game is a masterpiece, waiting for Capcom to anounce the temporary exclusive Resident Evil for Switch and the expansion of Monster Hunter Rise.
Brilliant stuff, great to see how well they've turned things around after spinning their wheels so hard in the 7th gen. Now if only they could get around to announcing that Mega Man Battle Network compilation...
So happy for Capcom they are showing what a 3rd party can do for the switch.
Nice now how bout give us Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica X. I'm not even asking for the remakes, c'mon Capcom easy money right there.
Capcom is the best in the game right now. Absolutely love what they're doing with their IP and the game quality is superb
Wasn't "Revelations 3" (with different name) for Switch supposed to come out after the buzz about RE:Village cool off?
@dimi
Will be. My guess is 2022 but who knows. They could do an October announcement at Tokyo Game Show with a March release date, similar to how they did Rise. Which would line up well with an assumed fall 2022 release for MH Rise Ultimate.
But, we'll just have to wait and find out
Best 3rd party on Switch. I've bought one of Rise, MHS 2, and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, and they're all great. Cannot wait for a built-from-the-ground-up RE to play under the blankets on my OLED Switch!
@JaxonH That's still based on an unconfirmed leak. Hopefully it'll become truth, but it's better to wait for a confirmation from Capcom themselves. Right now, RE5 on the Switch is doing the job very well for me hehehe.
@Edu23XWiiU
It's actually what I'd consider a confirmed leak. The data breach from Capcom pretty much confirmed it. It was already leaked from the most reliable Capcom insider who told us all about MH Rise before it was announced, the fact it would be on RE Engine, etc. And then the data Breach lined up perfectly with that info
So while nothing "official" has been announced, it's all but confirmed.
@JaxonH Time will only tell hehehe.
