@NewAdvent Good info, I admit the Wii didn't rally get my attention until it had hit fad status, I hadn't paid Nintendo any attention at all. So I wasn't really in on launch to know how much buzz it had. We are of a like mind about the marketing. Ninty went hard in the US, and no surprise with the launch numbers.
About 3 weeks ago I said football is where Ninty needs to market. Get some space during premier league games. Pony up in the champions league. Perhaps they will do so when FIFA is ready, but I know usually by that time it's PS4 adverts I see.
So correct, I had forgotten about colleges. I do think multiplayer games like MK and Splatoon will get a lot of visibility in colleges. And Zelda has moved he needle for a lot of people I know( including me, and I never even wanted to play a Zelda). Snipperclips and 1,2 Switch have gotten some family and friends that don't really play games interested. My girlfriends mom said it's like a portable Wii, which made me cringe, but the Wii was the onle game system she ever bought, and their household bought 2. It's a good sign, early days of course.
I haven't read the guide yet, but I saved the article. If I can't find it, then I will use the guide to get it. I always like to try first. Not that I will get it anytime soon. I have 5 hearts, I spend more time wandering around than doing anything lol
It's not a perfect machine, but I'll be darned if it isn't a amazing one. It's replaced my PS4 completely(untold mass effect and least). Your story isn't unlike several from friends in Miami. I told them about the Switch and they weren't really interested. Until they have seen me with mine. 2 of the 7 people have bought a Switch, 2more wanted one and couldn't find it, and 1 decided they are getting it for Christmas. That's 5 of 7 of my friends that saw me playing that had genuine interest after.
To me, that's gold waiting to be mined. Ninty has to bring the heat for the rest of the year, and make sure to keep pushing marketing and bring the games consistently.
@XCWarrior Nailed in 1. There is nothing to do, unless you are a competitive player(which is usually a quest in futility for a pay to win game) or a collector (and being new to the series, so far I know 1 of 3 characters I have even gotten)
I know ninty is all about the monies for investors, but I would rather have a $10 game that I can play rather than a few to play. And no I don't count super Mario, it's a runner. 10 for a real Mario game would have sold, 10 for a runner, albeit well produced, isn't going to fly.
If ninty want to get in the mobile market, sell actual games. There are thousands of free to play games already, they won't beat out those games to the average phone gamer anyway.
@NewAdvent I agree but was the Wii generating Wii level interests in the first 2 days? If I recall, the Wii wasn't a preorder 5 mill at launch type of machine. It was a real life viral sensation. As people talked about it and played, people wanted it. Then it took off as fad, and the monies started flowing.
Not to say I expect the Switch to do that. I think it never reaches fad levels, but the next 6 months could see it heading into the holidays with buzz and Mario on deck. If Ninty doesn't go stupid, they can hit a homer at E3, and make the Switch a desirable console for many, not Wii level again, but better than most expected.
Great launch as I predicted. Just phase one. It's important that marketing continues AND stick is made readily available. E3 needs to have a consistent message, and thatmessage needs to be GAMES. Third party games, 1st party games and indies al need to be shown with dates. Lastly, the holiday push has to be real. A smart bundle, that offers value.
If they nail those theee points, 2018 will be very bright.
That's really cool. I do want to get pro controller, but not badly enough to pay full price. I will get a pro controller when there is a sale, unless new colors of joy cons come out first.
Anyway, I never would have looked at the controller, good detective work.
Terrible that this wasn't caught in testing, but big respect for owning up and putting the customer before profit. I didn't get skins because I wanted to wait and see how things go. I won't lie those Zelda skins are soooo sweet. I am hoping they make green and gold joy cons
I have never ordered a launch anything online and I think I'm starting to see why. All the fears I have ever had are being stated here. I'm in Florida in the US, FedEx and especially UPS have delivered things, let's just say not on my porch. I have had to file a claim for over $150 worth of clothes I ordered for my girlfriend because UPS put it in which yard and someone stole it. Luckily it was from Amazon, and they sent out the exact order at no cost with no hassle.
I am amazed that the U.K. Was hit with so many troubles. And especially the Nintendo store. The disgusting thing is the lack of communication and no apologies. It's almost like they just expect customers to take anything they do and be happy to get a Seitch period. It's not free, they paid for the Switch. I hope this doesn't mar the experience when you all get your Switch, I have had a blast, and it is a shame that what should have been a crowning moment has went so badly.
Nintendo need some to try to make this right for those affected, compensation, an extra more importantly, an apology:
@Marios-love-child is I had a similar probalem too. In fact everything that involved online was wonky which scares me a bit. I had to actually reset my password to make it work, even though I wasn't putting it in correctly.
I voted happy but my feet are on the ground. Mainly because for some reason the Switch is terrible at connecting to wifi,I still haven't got thesysytem to register my physical game purchases after trying 16 times over the last 24 hours lol.
But I am extremely happy with the system. My girlfriend wanted to play 1 2 Switch, so we did that until 3am. She loves it so much that her enthusiasm won me over and I actually had fun. Then when we got up she wanted to go to her family house, where we demonstrated the system, and got both her mom and her niece to decide they wanted one. Down side, I didn't get to actually get to BOTW until afternoon but it was so worth the wait. It's a fun game. And gorgeous.
Overall I rate my total experience 8/10, with my problems over wifi being the biggest downside. I think this is going to be the start of a great 12 months for the Switch. I doubt I touch my PS4 until Mass Effect.
Amen. As I have said, the switch isn't perfect. I'm all for balance and there are things I would love to improve, but to see people talking about BOTW frame rate as if this makes a great game unplayable, or meh...idk it reeks of trollery. Anyone that has put 5 hours into BOTW and feels that the game isn't great because of the frame rate, I would like to know what games they feel are steps better.
Personally I have played some of my favorite games in this generation, BOTW I think will make my top 10, and I look forward to seeing what they can make with a AAA game dedicated purely to the Switch.
Are there any frame rate issues? Some. Did it mess up my enjoyment of what seems to be a wonderful game? Not in the slightest. I put in over 100 hours on the Witcher 3, and I had stutter, and I loved the game. I do think as we get more made for Switch games, there will be less issues.
As for the controllers, I didn't think I would love the joy cons. And I don't lol. But I don't HATE them either. Coming for the PS4, they aren't set up quite the way I want. Running is a bit uncomfortable. The joycons aren't terrible though. I probably will get a pro at some time.
It seems that everyone loves what Nintendo has done, but do they love it enough to support it? Obviously not Microsoft but you know. As far as Phil goes, I think he legitimately likes Nintendo consoles, and probably has a Switch for himself
I kind of like the red, and the layout makes certain stories jump at you. I can understand it beign jarring to those that are long time members, but having been here just over a month, it's not hard to change for me. Here's to hoping for a great year of gaming and Nintendo news!
I'm so glad you put this up. I didn't want to read a strategy guide, as I want to explore as much as possible. But for a noob to hyrule, these tips will stop me from doing something like selling diamonds or wasting rupees. I intended to play as soon as I got up, but I had to show my girlfriends family 1 2 Switch. They loved it and want to buy a Switch now. Finally though to hyrule I go.
When I was in Tokyo, I went with a friend to an opening of a Dunkin Donuts. I was both amazed by ow long the line was, and more amazed by how calm they queued up. People were talking and smiling and playing games. No one pushing or doing the "scoot so close to you, because leaving more than 6 inches between people would obviously invite people to skip 😒" that happens in lines in America.
Any who, I'm excited for everyone to get their Switch and excited to hear about everyone's experiences.
This is welcome news, since I ahbor digital purchases. It sucks that you by less coins but whatevs. I got no coins on my 3ds. I don't mean to say it's one leap for mankind or anything, but at least it's a common sense approach to the problem. One more hour and I'm driving out to get my Switch!
New to Nintendo, but I have heard the dread "friend code". Just to make sure I understand, so they have a code each person has to give out in order to play with someone? If that's how his works, it's the stupidest system ever
I'm not in Europe, but it's good news. I hope everyone gets their Switch day one. I'll be picking mine up from my south beach GameStop in t minus 7 hours, let everyone's count down begin
I'm a little nervous about server traffic. I mean there will probably be hundreds of thousands of people in America doing this at the same time. I'm not in a huge rush, but I do want to get some time in hyrule tonight.
Never played the Wii U, it looked completely like it wasn't for me, but I feel for those that got enjoyment out of it. I do expect the Switch to surpass these numbers. Weird that XB1 was able to surge like that in Japan.
I will enjoy my Switch immensely, but I will say PS4 is a wonderful gaming machine. It will be tough for any machine to catch in this gen.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Fair enough. I have spent no several posts saying 3rd party super needs to walk the walk instead of faint praises with how great the Switch is. But even as a Ninty noob I know hat 3rd parties haven't made a ton of sales on the Wii U, especially compared to on XB1 and PS4.
Reality is, the Switch needs to put up numbers before big names come with the heat. NO real 3rd party support will drop before E3. And these indie songs don't replace that. They just give alternatives, and if enough people like and jump onboard, the 3rd parties will come.
Stay tuned and see what gets announced this summer.
So bottom line, the Switch is going to compete HARD for the indie crown. The fact that there are fun games that (I assume) won't be full retail prices means there will be a lot of bang for your buck. All genres are covered, new faces and old. I'm pretty positive that when I will purchase a couple, another first.
Just to keep it balanced, let's also hope there is some 3rd party love the not indie kind later on at E3.
I wasn't really looking at this , having never played the original, but I have to say it looks nice. Luckily I don't think mighty no 9 will hurt the game, I'm sure completely diff teams worked on this.
This is the game that has my interest the most. I'll admit I am an advance wars junkie, I got into fire emblem because my friend told me to try it. Can't say it's a must buy, seeing as I would rather play fire emblem lol.
If this is priced aggressively and/or has a physical release I'm sure I'll bite. Is this like a fantasy version of advance wars, like dragons instead of helicopters?
I don't mean to be rude but this looks like it was made by a couple guys in their high school. It might be ok, but I wouldn't drop more a fiver, and no guarantee at that with so many other quality nindies o display.
I like the look of the game and I liked banjo, so it is on my watch list. The problem with these indies is I hate downloading titles, and most of the games I am interested in will be downloads...
This game is great for me. I never really wanted to play Zelda, but I have logged hundreds of hours into Skyrim and the Witcher 3. I wanted to like Zelda but it always looked so...linear? No maybe not linear but small scale? I wanted to have a game where combat was more fluid, where I could explore instead of just transversing dungeons and solving puzzles. I wanted grandiose bosses and horses of diff enemies and weapons.
I feel like BOTW is a marriage of the east and west developmentally. I know this might put off some purists. I think this merge might make a game that almost anyone can enjoy. Having never played Zelda games, I hesitate say it could be the greatest Zelda ever, but I think this could be on the list of biggest and best games to date.
I have never gotten a system at launch. I'm captain not paying to be a guinea pig, corporal wait until there are more games. This game literally feels like all I need to enjoy my Switch.
I think people see what they want to see. Me? I more see a poor attempt to make off with $60 than I do a sex simulator. And frankly, that's a much worse crime.
I know this is silly to say the least to most of us. Nintendo is again counting on the mainstream(aka those that don't play games) to get on board. Those people are who this video is for.
I had a geology teacher hat reminds me a lot of this voice lol
Completely useless test, but entertaining to see how little drain old systems had. A lot of the older systems didn't have much going o to drain batteries. I willl say being able to buy AA batteries would be nice, but lord how many would you need to power a modern device for 5 minutes 😖
I won't echo what has already been said too much. I'm interested to see what the standby will be, I'm not even as pressed about minimum battery life, I have an anker 20000 battery that I keep on me for my phone, multiple ports so the switch has life support when needed.
I'm not sure why people get angry at your posts. Are you negative? Surely, but that reflects your feelings about the Switch. Personally I see both good and bad in the Switch, but the potential good outweighs the bad, again that's just for me.
I hope that Nintendo does deliver games, I hope they get a affordable bundle option for the holidays, I hope the joy con issue gets addressed, and though I don't care about this, I hope a web browser is added for those that do. When this comes to fruition, I hope you can be objective 🙂
This is good news, that you can download in the background. I assume the allotted GB set aside already included the space for the update. I know some people are downloading a game, hopefully the install is quick. The fact they were able to make it able to get on hot spots was a must, I drive rather than commute, I'm interested for someone that will be on the tube to let us know how online play holds up on the hotspots.
@KiWiiU_Freek I didn't even see the rum part, quick story, I had never even HAD rum before 2016(I only was able to drink as of 4 years ago, and have just drank long islands), but we took a cruise to the Bahamas, where I got to go to a refinery. Long and short of it, they gave out samples and I was hooked!
It was called Cruzan rum, smooth as a baby's bum, and readily available in Miami where I live. Vanilla rum and coke is my forte, but strawberry rum and lemonade is refreshing on those south beach summers(which is basically May-October lol)
Next time I sip, I will hoist a glass to you my friend.
@KiWiiU_Freek Always appreciated, I lost my grandmother to it 7 years ago, so I want to be there for her and her family as much as I can.
As for the predictions, I hope I'm right lol. I doubt Metroid, but stranger things eh? Just to hedge my bets, if Metroid falls through, a Pokémon or Monster Hunter tease would still get the hype train moving at bullet train speeds.
We aren't even two months full into the year, and I have played several top notch games, and less than a week from a new console with ANOTHER top notch game, and we are talking E3. What a time to be alive 😎
I'm obviously excited about he Switch, but E3 is almost as hype for me. I haven't been interested in 2 years, but I wish so much that I could go. I have mentioned how badly I wish E3 was open to the public again, and then a month after I find out my girlfriends mom has cancer, it is open. I would be a jerk to go across the other side of the country at a time like this.
In lighter news, I will be tuned in to see as much as I can. I predict 2 AAA Ninty titles to be announced(Switch smash and Metroid on a limb). I think their will be footage of Xenoblade 2 and Fire emblem. Bonus points- VC info, one AAA 3rd party announcement, and a bundle announcement/alternate joycon colors.
Seriously, I can understand not wanting to get in without exclusives. As a PS4 gamer, this is a secondary console for me, and as such, 4-6 games are plenty for me. Hopefully you can have a reason to "Switch" in 2018!
I have my preorder placed, will be getting it at midnight launch with breath of the wild. That's all I need to start out with, I might get fast rmx later but I don't really like digital releases.
I voted I'm excited but can function daily. I mostly get excited and come on Nintendolife at night. The hype is growing for me knowing it's coming close. I took my girlfriend to he movies about 2 hours ago, and lol and behold, a Switch commercial before the previews! It's nice to see marketing and I think the Switch should have a decent buildup ramped up at E3, leading into the holidays.
$20 bills? Yes I think I'll give it a try, but I do hope there is a physical copy. If not, I'll still bite but I prefer cartridges. His sounds like a good title at a bargain price.
@thomasbw84 Great work on the preview, BOTW is my first foray into Hyrule. But I have played games like the Witcher 3 for more hours than I can count. Would you say the combat is similar to the Witcher 3 style?

Just to keep it balanced, let's also hope there is some 3rd party love the not indie kind later on at E3.
Re: Stardew Valley Coming To Switch This Summer With New Multiplayer Action
I played a harvest moon, and have friends hat played stardew valley. All of them say it is a great game, I definitely will try this out at some point.
Re: Pocket Rumble Throws Down This March on Nintendo Switch as a Console Exclusive
Digging the art style, would need to know a lot more about the fighting gameplay.
Color me curious.
Re: Blaster Master Zero Lays Waste To Switch And 3DS On March 9th
I wasn't really looking at this , having never played the original, but I have to say it looks nice. Luckily I don't think mighty no 9 will hurt the game, I'm sure completely diff teams worked on this.
Re: Switch Indie Title WarGroove Mixes Advance Wars And Fire Emblem
This is the game that has my interest the most. I'll admit I am an advance wars junkie, I got into fire emblem because my friend told me to try it. Can't say it's a must buy, seeing as I would rather play fire emblem lol.
If this is priced aggressively and/or has a physical release I'm sure I'll bite. Is this like a fantasy version of advance wars, like dragons instead of helicopters?
Re: Feature: Zoink Tells Us About the Big Switch with Flipping Death
I like the style of it so much, like others mentioned from fandango comes to mind. I never heard of Zoink, but really cool premise.
Re: Vroom in the Night Sky Joins the Nintendo Switch Launch Line-Up
I don't mean to be rude but this looks like it was made by a couple guys in their high school. It might be ok, but I wouldn't drop more a fiver, and no guarantee at that with so many other quality nindies o display.
Re: Hands On: Striking a Chord with Yooka-Laylee
I like the look of the game and I liked banjo, so it is on my watch list. The problem with these indies is I hate downloading titles, and most of the games I am interested in will be downloads...
Re: Feature: A Chat About Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Evolution of the Franchise
Re: Random: Infamous British Tabloid Takes 1-2-Switch a Bit Too Seriously
I think people see what they want to see. Me? I more see a poor attempt to make off with $60 than I do a sex simulator. And frankly, that's a much worse crime.
Re: Video: Usain Bolt Brings Olympian Power in Latest Pokémon Sun and Moon Trailers
But will he bring the trainer to twerk with skeezoids in every region the trainer visits? 🤔
Re: Nintendo Releases Official Switch 'First Time Use' Guide Video
I know this is silly to say the least to most of us. Nintendo is again counting on the mainstream(aka those that don't play games) to get on board. Those people are who this video is for.
I had a geology teacher hat reminds me a lot of this voice lol
Re: Nintendo Switch Battery Test Reveals Some Surprising Results
Completely useless test, but entertaining to see how little drain old systems had. A lot of the older systems didn't have much going o to drain batteries. I willl say being able to buy AA batteries would be nice, but lord how many would you need to power a modern device for 5 minutes 😖
I won't echo what has already been said too much. I'm interested to see what the standby will be, I'm not even as pressed about minimum battery life, I have an anker 20000 battery that I keep on me for my phone, multiple ports so the switch has life support when needed.
Re: Here's What The Day One Nintendo Switch System Update Will Do
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Re: Here's What The Day One Nintendo Switch System Update Will Do
This is good news, that you can download in the background.
Re: E3 2017 Floor Plans Show Another Sizeable Nintendo Booth
@KiWiiU_Freek
I didn't even see the rum part, quick story, I had never even HAD rum before 2016(I only was able to drink as of 4 years ago, and have just drank long islands), but we took a cruise to the Bahamas, where I got to go to a refinery.
Re: E3 2017 Floor Plans Show Another Sizeable Nintendo Booth
@KiWiiU_Freek
Always appreciated, I lost my grandmother to it 7 years ago, so I want to be there for her and her family as much as I can.
Re: E3 2017 Floor Plans Show Another Sizeable Nintendo Booth
Let's see how close I am.
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Countdown - Less Than a Week to Go, Is the Hype Building?
@Yasume
I would have never guessed😏
Seriously, I can understand not wanting to get in without exclusives. As a PS4 gamer, this is a secondary console for me, and as such, 4-6 games are plenty for me. Hopefully you can have a reason to "Switch" in 2018!
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Countdown - Less Than a Week to Go, Is the Hype Building?
I have my preorder placed, will be getting it at midnight launch with breath of the wild. That's all I need to start out with, I might get fast rmx later but I don't really like digital releases.
I voted I'm excited but can function daily. I mostly get excited and come on Nintendolife at night. The hype is growing for me knowing it's coming close. I took my girlfriend to he movies about 2 hours ago, and lol and behold, a Switch commercial before the previews! It's nice to see marketing and I think the Switch should have a decent buildup ramped up at E3, leading into the holidays.
Re: Feature: FAST RMX - The Price, Modes and Performance of Switch's Futuristic Racer
$20 bills? Yes I think I'll give it a try, but I do hope there is a physical copy. If not, I'll still bite but I prefer cartridges. His sounds like a good title at a bargain price.
Re: Preview: Immersing Ourselves in the World of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
@thomasbw84
Great work on the preview, BOTW is my first foray into Hyrule. But I have played games like the Witcher 3 for more hours than I can count. Would you say the combat is similar to the Witcher 3 style?
