@idrawrobots That's worrisome to me. I would feel a lot better if they had went all in with the switch, but of course with Pokémon going strong, it would be he height of foolishness to undercut 3ds sales. This is why I'm going to be patient until E3.
My roommate also is of the mindset that the 3ds stays for budget "ultra portable" gaming, and the switch is the high end home console. Because ninty isn't pushing portability as much. We will see, but for the sakes of getting developers on board I hope you are both wrong.
I actually have parallel thoughts to a lot of the comments made in the article. In my social circle, there is was a lot of positivity immediately after the presentation. Maybe everyone was swooning from the botw video? But as time passed I have heard more grumbling(a lot of it here 😏), and it feels like the hype isn't what it was.
I also agree that it seems ninty is looking to carve out its own market rather than compete at all. I'm not against that IN THEORY, but the fact that it's unknown if they will push the Switch as THE handheld to rule them all, or if they intend to Lee it alongside the 3ds long term... well it's a real missed opportunity to consolidate resources and push the switch by showing all the games you will be need to have the Switch for.
Overall, I do think the next 6 months are vital, the eshop needs a strong push, E3 needs to have multiple reveals, and the holiday season needs to have a bundle( oh look, itsa Mario) to give the Switch the momentum to really stake its claim.
I'm not sure why people are mad. Would it be easier to have replaceable batteries? Yup. But in this day and age of Apple, did anyone expect otherwise?
Now the discussion about the Switch bricking on a dead battery even if docked is valid. But personally, I think Apple changed the game like it or not. Mid-gen semi upgrades and factory only replacement batteries are what is going to be the standard unfortunately.
I think people are mixing up their complaints. The issue is not that the switch is too expensive. It's priced decently, for the tech involved. Are accessories high? In my opinion yes, as well as some of the games for what hey are, but the good thing is I won't buy those games or accessories.
The real complaint is the switch might be too expensive for joe q that walks into a store looking to get a game system. And whether it's fair or not, that person doesn't KNOW about the tech. Or care. They don't CARE about the launch price of the competitors. They care about how much money they have in pocket, and what value that brings them and their family.
Sadly, if they have $300 to spend, they are going to get more value AT THIS MOMENT with a PS4 or xb1 bundle. That's not said in glee, I want the switch to take off, not for ninty, for my sweaty palms to get as many quality games to be released for me to play while having to be at my girlfriends mother house as possible!
Time will tell how this plays out. I don't expect a price drop, as I'm preordered for day one. But a good bundle for the holidays might go a long way to swaying Joe Q. Public
I think this game looks very nice, I like the fun vibe, but I don't do online shooters. I don't really do multiplayer, as I mostly play alone or local co op. Is there any word on a single player story mode to this?
I'll say I like it more than I did at the presentation. So what is this to...meh. It looks very colorful, but gameplay? I prefer either a solid boxing experience( like fight night, with training and stats) or a over the top fighter( like street fighter).
His seems to be in the middle and not sure it scratches either itch for me. Would need to see how deep combat is, and how many more characters there are.
Again, I am not a ninty guy. Aside from the 3ds, I have never owned a Nintendo console, and honestly I have never finished a Zelda game(or come close).
With that said, the initial announcement had my Switch hype over 9000, and while the presentation and info that has come out afterwards has...tempered how optimistic I am of the switch being a runaway success, I am still looking forward to my preorder, and actually can't wait to hopefully beat my first Zelda.
Third party support is my biggest concern, as I think pricing will be more competitive with the holidays. I have a PS4, so I'll miss nothing, but I would really like some big games to come to the switch, having the option to go portable would be appreciated.
I was pretty meh when I read the story, but as I read your reply, I got more agitated. I will love the Zelda game regardless, but the big N basically gave switch adapters the big F U!
Port or no port, make use of a basic feature. I mean the graphics are upgraded. Why not use the feature that you claim is so important that the joy cons have to be priced so high because of? I'm not in the game industry, but you have been working on this game for a while, and I have to believe they pushed it back for the Switch release. Why not improve it by using the rumble?
And please don't give me the "we want to be fair to our Wii U owner" line. I'm sure multiple Wii U owners here will say how "fairly done by" they feel toward ninty right now.
This isn't a game breaker, but it comes across as lazy. Which is a bad precedent to set when so many of the early adopters are trading on potential right now.
The 3ds is going nowhere this year. I'm not sure if it goes anywhere anytime soon, and that has me torn.
If Devs have the 3ds to program for with its install base, and I'm sure lower costs, why bring the games to the Switch?
On the other hand, I think the 3ds is more portable, and a cheaper option for lots to game, and as a gamer, I want as many ways for people to enjoy as possible. I have gottten a lot of rpg and niche games on my 3ds, and wouldn't want to stop others from enjoying them.
I'm glad the switch is moving, but as others said, not indicative of future success. There have been several missteps in my opinion, and I fear they will hold by John Q. Public from buying in.
I do think the potential is there, I will judge more on first year rather than launch window. E3 will show the direction Switch is going, and holiday sales should go a long way in third party support
@gcunit Nailed it in one. The switch begs for games like this. I love borderlands and I'm a sony guy with all their consoles, and I would buy borderlands 3 for my Switch first and foremost.
I do understand that isn't everyone's opinion, and I make that statement assuming the switch version wasn't gimped beyond playability. Borderlands is the type of game that would be great to play both local co-op and solo. I hope there is shooter that makes its way to the switch(I can't really do splatoon, I need a shooter with an offline single player)
I have never seen hrm or little inferno, but world of goo I have seen, and if the price is right, would be something I snag. These three games aren't necessarily "huge" games, but the more indies switched over the better
@LegendOfPokemon I understand form the business side, but to my layman mind, consolidating the resources of the 3ds with the switch makes for a killer app. There will be people that would still buy a 3ds if the switch was announced as its successor.
Throw in a price cut, and you have a seeet system with a redonkulous catalog of games for all interests. And I would bet that Switch sales would increase as those that primarily game on a portable make the leap to the next gen.
@DanteSolablood This so much this. Beauty in the eye of the beholder. The switch is whatbee it's bought for. Some will buy it for a home console. Some will but it as a portable.
My guess is it will be a hybrid to the majority of the people that purchase, percentages of home/portable use to be determined per person. It's the console that allows for options.
@Spoony_Tech I as well, feel retail is the way to go with the switch. I will get a 128, which is plenty I believe for cartridges.
The shame here? I will be selective about what downloads I want-a game has to be a solid hit or a must have to make me want to buy it, knowing that I don't have a lot of memory to spare. Not a game breaker, but might cost a few indie sales.
@MarcelRguez I think you are right, I fall into group 3. My first experience with the big N was playing goldeneye with my friends. We would have sleep overs and pretend to go to bed so we could get up after mom went to sleep, and game all night!
I haven't had a Nintendo console since, I am as big of a Sony guy as there is, I even have the vita(may god rest its soul). But I preordered the switch as well as my room mate because we think it can bring back those golden eye feelings, and the potential gaming on the guy for a young professional is exciting.
Idk if RE7 is any good, but the Switch needs to get blockbuster games on board. Having a few blockbusters available can make the diff between a potential sale, and a wait and see.

I'm not quite anal retentive, umm, I mean tech savvy to need to know most of this. I preordered the switch to play games, nothing here was unexpected.

Those are packages that I can actually display. I love the BOTW package art. Odds are we don't get that type of packaging in the west.

Re: Video: New Nintendo Switch Advert Shows Off Its Number Two Feature
Decent I guess, though I haven't seen a single ad on tv. Will ninty market switch themed "sanitary wipes" for this scenario as well?

It's a freemium, pay to win game. Just uses Pokémon figures. Nothing to see here unfortunately.
Wake me up when we get an actual Pokémon game, preferably on the switch
