Blaster Master Zero will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch and 3DS this March, it has been revealed during the Nindies Direct broadcast.
A reboot of the NES classic by Sunsoft, Blaster Master Zero recreates the same iconic visuals with a modern twist, and will boast a two-player mode as well.
Mighty No. 9 studio Inti Creates is the team behind the wheel, and both versions are expected to arrive on the eShop on March 9th. Will you be downloading this one, and if so, which system will you choose? Let us know by posting a comment.

No matter how talented Inti Creates undoubtedly are as developers, being remembered as the "Mighty No 9 studio" definitely hurts their credibility.
I'm optimistic anyway.
"Mighty No. 9 studio Inti Creates is the team behind the wheel"
Preorder cancelled.
3DS most definitely. Not getting a Switch right now.
I was excited until I read this line:
"Mighty No. 9 studio Inti Creates is the team behind the wheel..."
@NIN10DOXD Inafune has nothing to do with this or Inti Creates.
@Captain_Toad ...You DO know Inti were basically just development grunts on it, right? Inafune and Comcept called all the shots.
@MoonKnight7 See earlier in my comment.
Interesting!! Wow! Blaster Master was my game back in the NES days. I may download that next week. Cool!
I wonder what they will reboot next.
@CrazedCavalier it is?..... I mean of course it is! heh heh heh........ I knew that from the beginning!
Looks good; might get on 3DS as I have no plans to get a Switch yet (although with all these eShop games piling up it may be only a matter of time now).
Is it wrong that I cry during the presentation. I think is the hype, I just can't take it anymore. I'm a grow up woman and I have never been this excited for a gaming console before in my life.
Will wait for reviews but very interested
Anyways, I'm actually glad it isn't purely 8-bit; the spritework looks a lot more SNES/GBA level, especially in the on-foot sections.
And heh, Gunvolt DLC. Is it wrong that I kinda want him re-designed as a ninja and as a bonus boss in Bloodstained? They already gave Miriam Voltaic Chains; that could be how you obtain it.
I really, really like the look of this. If it's reasonably priced, I'm definitely nabbing it.
@Jessica286 In terms of the design, the Switch is everything I've ever wanted from a console. These next few days leading up to the launch are going to feel like forever.
Despite having a little trouble getting into blaster master as a kid, this looks really interesting. Hopefully it's priced reasonably.
@NIN10DOXD: Please let it be Journey to Silius. That gem deserves a sequel.
This looks dope!! Hopefully will scratch my 'metroid' itch until Nintendo/(hopefully Retro) remedies that!
@Captain_Toad They were also the sole developers of Azure Striker Gunvolt. This reboot is in good hands. Comcept and Inafune screwed up Mighty No 9.
Never played the original NES version that I can remember, so I will pickup the Switch version when I eventually get a switch in a year or so.
@Damo Is this different than the WiiWare Blaster Master?
I wasn't really looking at this , having never played the original, but I have to say it looks nice. Luckily I don't think mighty no 9 will hurt the game, I'm sure completely diff teams worked on this.
Meanwhile some folks are wondering what became of the 3DS version of Mighty No 9.
@Damo is this for Switch and "New 3DS" or will I be able to play this on my 2DS?
@Rukiafan7 It's for Switch and 3DS, period. The game was announced for 3DS months ago.
@Frosty_09
Thats... actually not what Nintendo is doing.
The games tied to online accounts only ensures you can sign in another Switch and redownload your purchased Switch games.
Nobody is gonna get 3DS or Wii U games for free on Switch. That's not how it works on other consoles (except in explicit cases specifically stated on the game's page for crossbuy) and it won't be how it works for Switch either.
The only thing we'll probably get is VC discount program, but it's a totally separate issue than online accounts.
Dammit! That multiplayer was not what I was expecting it to be! Now I lost interest.
I probably would've cited Inti Creates as the developer of Mega Man 9, or Mega Man Zero, or Azure Striker Gunvolt.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inti_Creates
Oh, dear God yes!
This is looking more like a Mega Man 9 than a Mighty No 9. Do want.
This actually looks great.
Woooooooh! One more game on the Switch.
Will I be able to throw a grenade and pause the game to defeat a boss?
The original is one of my all time favorites. Will give this a look for sure.
I am never going to be able to convey how excited I am for this. As a kid, and even now, this was/is my favorite NES game and I still play it to this day. With the trailer above I am even more excited as it looks every better than I could have ever imagined.
I see now that it is quite literally a reboot with lots of modern flair added with the moving platforms in the overhead view and the angle shooting for example.
This is a day one purchase for me on 3DS. I SO wish this was available also on Wii U but I totally understand why it's not.
This just made my day — I'll be crushing this on March 09.
Still have yet to beat Blaster master overdrive. I'm definitely getting this for 3DS.
@Kanbei was wondering the same thing haha
I don't get why people insist in trying to reinvent the wheel in naming sequels. Blaster Master 2 would be an immensely more elegant title in my opinion.
Oh well, that's obviously a small gripe. Very excited for this and can't wait to get it.
@ricklongo
Blaster Master 2 already exists and the reception wasn't as good as the first game + wasn't even out in Japan.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaster_Master_2
This new game is called Blaster Master Zero because everything is starting again from “zero”
I'm thrilled, yet always apprehensive at these projects. Of course I want new iterations of the forgotten 8-bit classics of my childhood... But too similar and I will ultimately prefer to go back to the original, dust and warts and all. Then again, if they veer off into too many new dimensions it would be better to play an original homage rather than a direct descendant...
I have faith in Inti Creates to make a fun game, but I desperately hope they have the opportunity and ambition to walk that narrow path and realize the untapped potential of Blaster Master while retaining the charm of a the original.
"its better than nothing"
I saw the trailer on YouTube and it looks awesome! I didn't see that it was coming to 3DS! I thought it was a switch exclusive and was really disappointed. I don't plan on buying a Switch until there are more games or a price drop. But I will be buying Blaster Master Zero for the 3DS!
If the 3DS version has 3D effect then I will get it on my 3DS if not I'm gonna get it on my Switch but I hope it has 3D I love these types of games in 3D . Man what a day , a new Runner on the way a new SteamWorld Dig and now this plus in like two days we get a new system & a new Zelda the gaming Nintendo nerd inside of me is exploding cannot wait to get the Switch in my hands in my opinion its the best looking console system I've ever seen the look and design of Switch is just beyond awesome TWO DAYS just TWO more DAYS I can do it .
My favourite NES series is back!!!! Hell yes I'm buying this day 1. Woooooo!
My only problem from the trailer - the music. Blaster Master had such an awesome soundtrack and very moody. I just hope the trailer doesn't represent all the music in the game (still buying though!!).
I'm tempted but I plan to hold out until after I read some reviews
The title suggests it's a prequel to the original. So, this is before he lost his frog?
Mighty No. 9 was disappointing, but I'm happy Azure Striker Gunvolt was also mentioned. That series is fantastic, and I'm sure this will be too.
Looks great. Cant shake the feeling that this game has been remade and remade and remade. I'd get it for the 3ds. As long as they are just remaking stuff why not remake something that hasnt been remade a lot, like smash tv or breakthru or jackal or something.
@Priceless_Spork I would definitely be up for some Smash TV!
Umm, Damien McFerran? Citing Mighty No. 9 as one of Inti Creates' credits doesn't do them any favors...
This looks like it could be a load of new-retro fun.
Woohoo! Definitely grabbing this one!
@imgrowinglegs
Actually a lot of people remember them as being the studio who did the Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX and Azure Striker Gunvolt games.
@bluedogrulez That would be good! Or The Guardian Legend! X3 Or Metal Storm!
@Tempestryke That's good. That's how they should be remembered. The black mark of Mighty shouldn't be held against them.
Who owns Sunsoft these days?
@Jim_Purcell
Uh...that is a good question.
@Tempestryke Apparently, and amazingly, Sunsoft just... still exists as an independent entity. Surviving the lean years on Pachinco and mobile games. Considering the fates of so many early NES developers/publishers its quite a feat to survive and be unmerged to this day and age.
Well this is a must buy. That Wii version was pretty good a while back, but that Sega one was kinda crappy. The GBC one was awesome, but of of course the NES was the ultimate. I can't wait this one beats Bomberman for me. I'm going to get both. I love how they are making some cool retro game sequels.
@Jim_Purcell
Wow! I had no idea they were even around. I just assumed they'd sold off some of their IPs and faded away.
Sunsoft...
Holy cow, Switch really IS reviving the classics!
@Priceless_Spork I agree to some extent. But I think Blaster Master has suffered the same fate as Star Fox. Every time it's been remade they do something to screw it up. The Wiiware game a few years back suffered from garbage controls; limited to a sideways Wii remote! Don't even bring up the Genesis and Playstation versions. I don't think I finished Enemy Below either.
This could be a day 1 purchase. I loved this on the NES and my only regret was never finishing it. The lack of a password system really made it tough as it was quite a long and challenging game.
Supporting for more Blaster Master!
As I said when the new just came out, It's a most buy for me! After the great job they did with the Gunvolt series I have faith in them, I don't need to wait for the review, specially since from the videos I've seen they pretty much improved the experience of the original Master Blaster. This video got me really hyped for the game!
Inti Creates made Mega Man 9, the Mega Man Zero games, and the Azure Striker Gunvolt games. They are also developing the upcoming Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
And you only credit them as the devs for Mighty No. 9, a game they helped out Comcept with. -_-
In any case, I'm quite excited for this one. Now that it is going to be on Switch, I'll pick that version up since I can play it on the TV and it includes multi-player. And bonus character DLC sounds cool, as long as it's free like for Runbow. I hope there are some character-exclusive abilities, such as Gunvolt having electric attacks and prevasion outside of the tank or something.
@Spoony_Tech Same here. One of my top games ever so will definately check this out.
@Jessica286 Dont worry...grown men do it too. Haha. I cried at the last BotW trailer. I'm so freaking excited for Friday.
I never played blaster master but I remember reading the hell out of the world's of power book! Showing my age 😣
I might get this
@Nono18 - I love that Worlds of Power book! That and the Metal Gear one. You can get it pretty cheap used on Amazon.
Blaster Master (Worlds of Power) https://www.amazon.com/dp/059043778X/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_PmJTyb7F7C6Q0
SOLD! I absolutely loved the original
@vincentgoodwin nice I think I may have to pick some up for nostalgic sake. Thanks!
@OdnetninAges
Right?
@Captain_Toad
Inti-creates.
Mega Man Zero series
Mega Man ZX games
Azure Striker Gunvolt
Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
@Ralizah I didn't notice the price the first time I looked at the video, but it seems it will be $9.99 and that's reasonable for me.
Looks cool and quite fine indeed. Only worry is that it's from Inti Creates.
I'd really like Nintendolife to do some investigative journalism and get an answer from Inti Creates that why did they never release the Azure Striker Gunvolt big update in Europe for 3DS? Why only release it in USA? If you have the game out and the update only in Steam globally, but then on 3DS just in USA, that seems really weird and it just sucks.
I would like the missing content to be released for European fans also. It's absolutely horribly bad customer service from them and does not really make me buy any of their games ever again.
Mighty No. 9 is a completely another story of course. Man they really messed that up...
I thought this game looked awesome at first, but I changed my mind immediately when I read "Mighty No. 9 studio"...
@roy130390 Yeah, $10 isn't too bad, considering it's an actual remake.
@G-Boy There has been people already commenting that, and just as other people told them I'm going to tell you the same thing: Inafune's fault.
They also did Megaman Zero and the Gunvolt series, games in which they had more control over what was happening than Mighty N. 9.
"Mighty No. 9 studio Inti Creates is the team behind the wheel"
Lol, that's bad advertising!
The game (blaster master zero) looks nice though.
@roy130390 Thank you for the information, I didn't know that they created those games.
@Captain_Toad inti creates also did gunvolt ,megaman zx ,and zx advent and a lot of other really good games give them the chance to prove themselves with there titles before canceling any preorder
@Ralizah I agree. I think every console should do this portable/home console combo and if Nintendo plays it smart they will release a dock with boost power and an sku with tablet only for those that have two kids or girl/boyfriend and just want the unit since they already have the whole package. I think Nintendo can really win big here.
@invictus4000 oh my the feels!! And now with all those 10's is freaking crazy. I have never wanted so much to be midnight than today.
@Jessica286 I believe they have plans for an upgraded dock, although I'll be worried if they release one of those. I could see Western developers making games that only perform well with the additional computational power in the new dock, which would be terrible for people who like to play on the tablet.
@Ralizah we will see. All I know is that this console has a lot of potential and Nintendo needs to capitalize with that.
What's with all the Inticreates hate? They're associated with one bad game and sudden'y they're the worst team to handle the game? Please. Inticreates also gave us Mega Man Zero and Mega Man 9, lest you forget.
Also as far as I can tell this is a literal remake, not a sequel. I can plainly see these are the same levels as the NES game, just revamped. Definitely hyped!
Awesome!
How do we only get word of this a day before release? Not NL's fault; just saw it in shop for the 1st time.
Glad it's not snobbishly "only for nYUUUUuu 3ds" or Switch.
@Kanbei the orig was almost unbeatable w/o that and turbo B.
People dissing on Inti because Mighty No. 9 sucked have never played Gunvolt, I guess. This game looks fantastic; I'm a big fan of the NES original and learned of this remake via Laser Time's stream.
Getting it on 3DS 'cause I'm not getting a Switch until late this year, at the earliest. The rumble feature sounds distracting, anyway.
