If Nintendo researches successful marketing campaigns and their franchises it need not look much further than Pokémon, in which the big N naturally has a significant stake. During the 20th Anniversary celebrations last year and the launch of Pokémon GO followed by Pokémon Sun and Moon, we saw The Pokémon Company go big on promotions and marketing.
In some cases it's brought in high profile celebrities and athletes to promote the games, and the latest is all-time-great Olympian and 100m sprinter Usain Bolt. Coinciding with 'Pokémon Day', two short 15 second trailers from Japanese TV have been posted by the company on YouTube. These will likely get rolled out in the West rather soon.
Pokémon Sun and Moon continue to perform decently in charts, with Japanese and UK results being countries where the games are still shifting some copies.
It'll be interesting to see what moves The Pokémon Company makes with new releases this year, whether following rumours or unveiling other surprises.

The unfortunate implications of casting a Jamaican superstar as a villain are breathtaking.
Well, I'd never thought I'd see Usain Bolt as a Team Skull member...
Didnt he get medals taken away for cheating? I'd say the villian role is appropriate.
But will he bring the trainer to twerk with skeezoids in every region the trainer visits? 🤔
@Priceless_Spork He got a medal taken away because a teammate of his was caught cheating during a relay he was a part of. Had nothing to do with him, iirc.
@Priceless_Spork Someone clearly did their research.
@TruthBeTold
Thank you. That's why I asked.
@ThatNyteDaez
Yeah he still got a medal taken away for cheating. Confirmed.
Hahaha....
LOL.
Oh ya, hes on Team Skull, the same team that beats up bus stops and spends their free time doing squats. God he is on such a villainous team.
@TruthBeTold
Sounds like the excuse someone would use for joining Team Mouthing Pansies
@ZurapiiYohane Team Skull you say? Is it bad that I only remember him for making a commercial for an even more nefarious organization called Comcast a few years ago?
Those graphics... imagine a Switch port with those sweet Pokken Tournament-ish visuals... salivates
Pokémon ad featuring Olympic superSTAR Usain Bolt, Pokémon Stars confirmed.
Some news outlet is going to call this ad racist for him making dress as a villain just you wait.
@patbacknitro18
Squats are indeed evil. 😨
@Exy I really don't see what implications you could be referring to. Please enlighten me.
That's totally dope...
That's pretty good actually, which I didn't expect. Jamaican stars on Japanese commercials....I could see this easily being a thing for a US commercial, but a Japan-only commercial is the last thing I would have expected. And then they DON'T have a US version.... Only Nintendo
Edit: And UK for that matter.
That's hilarious
Loved how the costume came out,
but indeed, maybe he could have been in the hero side
