Re: Another Fan Claims To Have Reached Nintendo Switch's Maximum Hour Count

RIC616

@Trajan Hate to break it to you, but being from the Midwest, you are still speaking English with an accent. As any American is. As pretty much anyone from the UK is as well. Because there are so many regional dialects and accents, what is an original English accent? It certainly isn't Midwest American.
You also state about American culture that "our culture infects the world. So much so that the west has little of its own", yet seem to miss the irony that you're posting this on a British based website, that specialises in reporting about the work of a more than 100 year old Japanese company.

Re: Another Fan Claims To Have Reached Nintendo Switch's Maximum Hour Count

RIC616

@Trajan The video you link to, to try and make a point about the English speaking English, is about the Glaswegian accent. That's the Glaswegian accent that is spoken in Glasgow, the Glasgow in Scotland. Not in England.

And so what. Some Glaswegians have a thick accent. I'm assuming from your stance you are American and have an accent as well. Really doesn't matter.

So rather than continue to try and dig yourself out of your ignorant hole, only to dig yourself further in, maybe just drop it.

Re: Mini Review: The Procession To Calvary - An Absurdist Point-And-Click Quest That Will Split Your Sides

RIC616

@nkarafo Just so we're totally clear, do you mind explaining exactly how God has been offended by this game, as I'm really still not entirely sure. As previously explained in the comments the reviewer has stated they are a practicing Catholic who found nothing to offend them in this game. Have you played it, and if so, what offended you that failed to offend them?

Re: Mini Review: The Procession To Calvary - An Absurdist Point-And-Click Quest That Will Split Your Sides

RIC616

Out of interest, can anyone who has actually played the game shed any light on if there is actually anything that may be deemed offensive to Christians in this game? I can see no mention anywhere in the review, or across a number of other previews and reviews I've seen away from this site, that mention anything of the kind. Or is this based purely on the title and it's reference to the painting?

Re: Nintendo May Have Issued A Copyright Claim To Take Down Some Raunchy Bowser Art

RIC616

As far as the fair use parody defence goes, it is exactly that, a defence to be used in court. Nintendo are perfectly within their rights to challenge it's use. The creator can then either choose to remove the content or contest the challenge in court. It's only there that the parody defence applies and it's the up to a judge to rule on that on the specific case. Clearly in this instance the creator is not going to have the means to go through litigation and it's easier for them to remove the content, which they have done. Whichever side you sympathise with here, from a legal viewpoint, both sides have to date done things within the law.

Re: Nintendo Switch Parental Controls Mobile App Gets Another Minor Update

RIC616

@Snatcher You're missing the point of the controls. I use the app and it's really useful. You seem to be assuming that when you become a parent you yourself stop playing games. I buy games for myself I don't want my kids playing, so I can control that. It also allows me to keep an eye on playtime, so I can make sure they don't spend their entire lives being on a screen.

Re: Evidence Of Resident Evil 3: Cloud Version For Nintendo Switch Seemingly Uncovered

RIC616

@Roibeard64
Tried the Control demo last night and I was impressed. Once I'm done with Ghostbusters and Alien: Isolation (been saving them for Halloween), I'll be tackling Control. I appreciate the idea of cloud gaming isn't for everyone, but speaking from an entirely personal perspective, as someone who only owns a Switch, who isn't planning on getting a PS4/PS5 any time soon (just don't need another box sitting under the TV), but would like to play some of these games, and is also fortunate enough to have good internet, I'm all for this.

Re: Evidence Of Resident Evil 3: Cloud Version For Nintendo Switch Seemingly Uncovered

RIC616

@Daniel36
Cloud gaming means the game isn't actually running on the Switch. It's running on a server somewhere. All the Switch is doing is being a way of inputting the controls and outputting the video. Therefore none of the processing is done by the Switch, but instead the far more powerful server. So you can have games running that just would not be possible with the Switch. Therefore you can have graphics the Switch could never hope to achieve.

Re: New Hades Patch For Nintendo Switch Resolves "Rare" Save Data Load Issues

RIC616

@Kalmaro Totally hooked. I'm not a massive roguelike fan, find them generally quite monotonous. But loving this. The variety in the Boon system, along with other upgrades is staggering. Allows for great flexibility in your builds and encourages experimentation. Story and presentation are excellent as well. My son, who had never played a roguelike, has also been playing and if anything is more obsessed than I am.

Also should add, I've found it a great game to play alongside something else, or if you don't get a great deal of gaming time in a day. You can get a run or two done in a relatively short amount of time and still feel like you're making progress.

Re: Rebellion Has Just Bought The Bitmap Brothers Brand And Portfolio

RIC616

Amazing news. Rebellion have been doing a great job in their comics division of both reissuing and resurrecting classic British comics. If they can start doing similar with classic British developers, we have some great things coming. And to start with Bitmap Briothers makes it all the sweeter.

Re: Video: Nintendo Would Like To Remind You That 2DS Exists This Christmas

RIC616

The advert didn't sway anything, but I already intend to get one for my daughter this Christmas. Her older brother already has one (my old original generation 3ds, which he inherited when I upgraded to a New 3ds) and she is just starting to get into games. This isn't her being shortchanged, we already have a Switch, which she uses. But she wants to play the pile of 3ds games we already have on her own system, so asked for one of her own.
Just because you may not be the market they are aiming for, doesn't mean there isn't a market.

Re: Editorial: From Metroid: Other M to Star Fox Zero, the Awkward Experimentation With Beloved Franchises

RIC616

@Yorumi While I appreciate the applause, I don't think I have missed your point. You make it quite clear you feel any deviation from the original game seems to be a negative. You are already shooting down Zero, based seemingly on its control scheme alone, yet stating OOT is just like any other Zelda game, when one of the biggest changes to that franchise came at that time with a radically different control scheme from the previous games, necessitated by the move to 3D. Prior to OOT, Zelda had no analogue control, context sensitive actions or z-targeting, all innovations to control methods I would argue are at least comparable to the changes to Starfox. Yet you appear to view the innovations of OOT fondly, perhaps with the aid of hindsight, yet are ready to critique the fake that hasn't yet been released, presumably before you try it.
So my point earlier, relating to Nintendo not 'replacing' the old games (your choice of word), still stands. You don't like it, go play the original.
May I suggest that if you want to respond this time, you try and formulate a stronger argument than a slow clap, it looks petty.

Re: Editorial: From Metroid: Other M to Star Fox Zero, the Awkward Experimentation With Beloved Franchises

RIC616

I've never understood the desire from fans for nothing but a retread of what came before, be it in games, music, film or any other art form. The original will always be there and you can choose to embrace the new, or not, once you've tried. Personally I really liked Other M, because it wasn't Prime 4. I loved the Prime games, but a change was welcome. Retro were innovating with the original anyway and I seem to remember a few nervous voices then. I for one can't wait to try out the new Starfox controls.

Re: My Nintendo and Its Rewards Are Live

RIC616

Spent a bit of time on it and seen to be racking up points without realising it, so must be doing some of these secret missions. I do hope they give out those gold rewards on physical copies though.

Re: Grab Yourself a Mew Puzzle in Pokémon Picross

RIC616

I gave up on this a while ago. I'm usually very patient with free to play, but this took it too far with it's pay wall. If it had just been slightly more generous I probably would have got hooked and dropped some money, but it became impossible to progress, too early.

Re: GAME Sends Out £10 Gift Cards and Apologises for Super Mario Maker Pre-Order Issues

RIC616

I feel sorry for anyone that was out of pocket on this. Personally I was charged twice myself, but, as sometimes seems to happen with my bank, it took several days for that charge to actually clear and appear on my balance. By that time GAME had already issued the refund, which appeared in my account immediately. So for a couple of hours I was actually up on the deal. Therefore a gift card when I get home would be a nice bonus.
