Sounds really boring. Why would anyone want co-op in a turn-based JRPG? Players 2 and 3 will spend 95% of the time just watching and occasionally use a potion or choose attack from a menu.
30fps? Yeah, at this point, I only use NintendoLife for the reviews and then I buy the game on Steam to either play on my PC or Steam Deck. The Switch 2 can't come fast enough.
I appreciate their willingness to experiment with different genres, but I'm not a Steamworld fan because I love the world-building and lore. I'm a fan because I love 2D Metroidvania games and Steamworld Dig 1 & 2 were awesome. At the end of the day, they're a business and they need to make games that their audience wants to buy; city-builders are not it.
The Joycons are horrible. I've never held a worse first-party controller in my life and I've played on dozens of different systems. I quickly bought a Pro Controller for docked play and bought the Hori Split Pad Pro for handheld play so that I would never be subjected to the torture that is playing on the joycons. I'm really surprised how many people are saying they like them.
Wow, am I dreaming? I knew Sunsoft had revived and was rereleasing their old games, but I never expected sequels. Ufouria is one of the best games on the NES and I am thrilled to see a sequel coming out. It looks to have the same charm and personality of the original too, so I have high hopes for this.
This looks fantastic, but as someone with the SNES cartridge I'm not seeing any reason to buy this. If there were some extra dungeons or new playable characters (maybe Booster?) I'd be tempted, but if there's absolutely nothing new...
@HammerKirby Well, Super Meat Boy is 13 years old now, so I wouldn't go looking to that for revolutionary ideas.
Celeste certainly counts though. The gameplay mechanics are way more interesting than the basic hop 'n bop of Mario. Also, a platformer with no — okay, almost no — enemies was a nice change of pace.
I appreciate the comment about the lack of challenge and lack of platforming innovaton. I wasn't expecting Celeste C-Sides here, but I do want some challenge. It's quite clear that I'm not the target demographic for this game and I'm not going to be buying it.
Yeah, it's a low-budget and much slower ripoff of Cuphead, but I'm fine with that. Cheap clones can still be good games. I'll be keeping my eye on this.
@stungun Governments already take care of people in need. During the 20th century, massive investment in social programs was made by governments all over the world to address social inequalities and many countries became welfare states. Pensions, universal healthcare, social security, welfare, etc. all became commonplace (at least among wealthy countries) in the last 100 years due to economic prosperity and technological advancement.
I have a utopian and optimistic view of the future because that's what history indicates will happen. As automation takes over and unemployment goes up, governments will be under pressure by the public to address the issue because that's how democracies work and we've already seen this happen many times before in history. Rich CEOs can only pressure governments so much; at the end of the day, that rich CEO is still only one vote.
@stungun Then you introduce a basic income likely funded by a tax on automation. Again, you don't fight progress, you use automation to improve the lives of everyone.
@LilyGoMEOW 30% of low and middle-income jobs will be lost because of A.I. by 2030? That's awesome!
We should be automating low-skilled and tedious work so that we humans don't have to waste our time on that crap. 1,000 years ago most humans worked as sustenance farmers to survive. Do you want to go back to those days of back-breaking labour or are you happy with automated farms freeing us to do better and more productive work?
The transition might be painful, but fighting progress is bad for everyone. We need to embrace AI and focus on transitioning people to new and better jobs.
It was okay, but too many remakes and ports. Super Mario RPG is awesome, but I have no interest in a fresh coat of paint for a game I've already played. I want new games.
Pikmin 4, Peach's game, and Penny's Big Breakaway were the highlights for me. I hope we see more on Peach soon.
I do love 2D Platformers, but recent 2D Marios have been rather dull. They come across as the Nintendo equivalent of Pixar's "Cars" franchise. I'll reserve judgement until we see more, but I'm not excited yet.
I don't see any reason for Nintendo to put out a Direct in June. Right now Nintendo is riding a high from Zelda, so they would be best served by lying low for the summer and doing their big Direct in August or September.
E3 is dead, guys. There's no need to keep June as the month for the big showcases. It can be any time of year now.
Not surprising, but terrible news. I guess that means I'm done with Zelda until the next revamp in 10-20 years. Hopefully, indie devs will pick up the slack in the meanwhile; Mina the Hollower looks amazing.
What a weird article. Everyone and their grandmothers can tell that BOTW was a huge departure for the Zelda. That isn't debatable. Some people liked those changes and some people didn't. Obviously, those who dislike BOTW value different elements in Zelda. This article feels like it's just trying to gaslight oldschool Zelda fans.
NL: "Oh, BOTW doesn't feel like a Zelda game to you? Well, you're clearly wrong and here's why".
The game looks awesome, but $35 for the Switch digital version? I understand the physical Game Boy carts costing a pretty penny, but I'm no collector. Why is the digital port $35? I'll give you ten bucks, but that's it.
I've never particularly enjoyed the standard Bomberman games in either single player or multiplayer, but I'd love to see another story focused game like Bomberman Hero. I doubt Konami would return to that well, but I'd be very happy to be proven wrong.
I cannot abide this disparaging of Linebeck! Easily the greatest companion in the series with a real personality and character development throughout the game. Linebeck #1!
There honestly wasn't a lot for me personally, but that was a great direct. Nintendo had both quantity and quality of games in a wide variety of genres. The only downside is a lack of big AAA games with the exception of Zelda of course. Not surprising for February though — you save the big guns for the end of the year.
I was definitely disappointed in the Switch this year. There wasn't anything — from AAA to indie — that interested me. I did buy Kirby due to the excitement of finally having a Kirby 3D Platformer, but I didn't care for the game. Pretty weak year overall.
Fortunately there's no shortage of older games to play, so I had a great year of gaming. Just nothing from 2022.
MegaMan 11 was great with the exception of the gear system. It annoyed me so much that I played through the game without using it at all. It wasn't easy, but it is possible to do so. Hopefully they go back to the basics for the (inevitable) next game.
I was curious about this game, but those reviews put me off. Yes, they're positive, but those positive reviews also mention shallow gameplay and tedium. This seems like one of those games that's just a giant checklist to complete with numbers that go up. Basically it's an idle game like Cookie Clicker.
@DarthXenos As a programmer I certainly understand the appeal of developing a game for a retro console, but they are severely curtailing their potential audience. This game would be perfect for the Switch.
The GBC cart is just a gimmick for hardcore collectors. If you're not willing to pay $50 for a GBC cart in 2022 (and that's most people) you've got the browser option. That's what I'll be doing.
@RushDawg Whether Sonic is in the top 10 or not doesn't matter. The strength for the rest of the top 10 is going to vary greatly based on what games have released recently, so relative position is best ignored. Sega's investors aren't interested in Sonic's placement relative to other games, but instead total units sold.
45k opening week for a AAA game from a Japanese company in Japan isn't good numbers.
I'm glad to have a release date for Sports Story, but nothing else caught my eye. I'm really not into those cozy/artsy games, so there wasn't much for me.
The poll options were lacking. I would love a new Switch revision, but I didn't like BOTW and have no interest in getting the sequel. I would buy the new Switch by itself.
I just don't see Sega ripping off Breath of the Wild for Sonic somehow working out to a good game. Not only is it a poor fit for Sonic, but Sega doesn't have the chops to make something with the scope and ambition of BOTW. The main problem here is Sonic doesn't have an identity in terms of gameplay mechanics and Sega is desperately throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. That never works out well.

Re: Zelda Live-Action Movie Director: "I Want To Fulfil People's Greatest Desires"
Well, if the movie's director and Sony's CEO says it'll be good, I'm convinced. There's no point in even reading the reviews now.
Re: Rejoice! Sea Of Stars Is Getting 3-Player Couch Co-Op

Re: Switch Emulator Yuzu To Pay $2.4 Million To Nintendo & Cease Development
@LUIGITORNADO I'm out of touch with what gaming is because I want to play some SNES games? You're not making any sense.
Re: Switch Emulator Yuzu To Pay $2.4 Million To Nintendo & Cease Development
@Emacster Why is it that hard to understand why people want to play SNES or Gamecube games on their PC/Steam Deck?
Re: Review: Penny's Big Breakaway (Switch) - A Furiously Fast & Fun Platformer With Sega Spirit
30fps? Yeah, at this point, I only use NintendoLife for the reviews and then I buy the game on Steam to either play on my PC or Steam Deck. The Switch 2 can't come fast enough.

@dazzleshell What does only playing on your TV have to do with physical or digital media?
Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?
I'm already 100% digital. Why is that not an option on the poll?

Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. Wonder - The Best 2D Mario Since The Super NES
@rykdrew A platformer's difficulty comes from the plarforming. You can't just have some AI algorithm to scale that up. This isn't Diablo here.
Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. Wonder - The Best 2D Mario Since The Super NES
@HammerKirby Play some indie games. There's plenty of revolutionary things to still be found in platformers.
