I do love 2D Platformers, but recent 2D Marios have been rather dull. They come across as the Nintendo equivalent of Pixar's "Cars" franchise. I'll reserve judgement until we see more, but I'm not excited yet.
I don't see any reason for Nintendo to put out a Direct in June. Right now Nintendo is riding a high from Zelda, so they would be best served by lying low for the summer and doing their big Direct in August or September.
E3 is dead, guys. There's no need to keep June as the month for the big showcases. It can be any time of year now.
Not surprising, but terrible news. I guess that means I'm done with Zelda until the next revamp in 10-20 years. Hopefully, indie devs will pick up the slack in the meanwhile; Mina the Hollower looks amazing.
What a weird article. Everyone and their grandmothers can tell that BOTW was a huge departure for the Zelda. That isn't debatable. Some people liked those changes and some people didn't. Obviously, those who dislike BOTW value different elements in Zelda. This article feels like it's just trying to gaslight oldschool Zelda fans.
NL: "Oh, BOTW doesn't feel like a Zelda game to you? Well, you're clearly wrong and here's why".
The game looks awesome, but $35 for the Switch digital version? I understand the physical Game Boy carts costing a pretty penny, but I'm no collector. Why is the digital port $35? I'll give you ten bucks, but that's it.
I've never particularly enjoyed the standard Bomberman games in either single player or multiplayer, but I'd love to see another story focused game like Bomberman Hero. I doubt Konami would return to that well, but I'd be very happy to be proven wrong.
I cannot abide this disparaging of Linebeck! Easily the greatest companion in the series with a real personality and character development throughout the game. Linebeck #1!
There honestly wasn't a lot for me personally, but that was a great direct. Nintendo had both quantity and quality of games in a wide variety of genres. The only downside is a lack of big AAA games with the exception of Zelda of course. Not surprising for February though — you save the big guns for the end of the year.
I was definitely disappointed in the Switch this year. There wasn't anything — from AAA to indie — that interested me. I did buy Kirby due to the excitement of finally having a Kirby 3D Platformer, but I didn't care for the game. Pretty weak year overall.
Fortunately there's no shortage of older games to play, so I had a great year of gaming. Just nothing from 2022.
MegaMan 11 was great with the exception of the gear system. It annoyed me so much that I played through the game without using it at all. It wasn't easy, but it is possible to do so. Hopefully they go back to the basics for the (inevitable) next game.
I was curious about this game, but those reviews put me off. Yes, they're positive, but those positive reviews also mention shallow gameplay and tedium. This seems like one of those games that's just a giant checklist to complete with numbers that go up. Basically it's an idle game like Cookie Clicker.
@DarthXenos As a programmer I certainly understand the appeal of developing a game for a retro console, but they are severely curtailing their potential audience. This game would be perfect for the Switch.
The GBC cart is just a gimmick for hardcore collectors. If you're not willing to pay $50 for a GBC cart in 2022 (and that's most people) you've got the browser option. That's what I'll be doing.
@RushDawg Whether Sonic is in the top 10 or not doesn't matter. The strength for the rest of the top 10 is going to vary greatly based on what games have released recently, so relative position is best ignored. Sega's investors aren't interested in Sonic's placement relative to other games, but instead total units sold.
45k opening week for a AAA game from a Japanese company in Japan isn't good numbers.
I'm glad to have a release date for Sports Story, but nothing else caught my eye. I'm really not into those cozy/artsy games, so there wasn't much for me.
The poll options were lacking. I would love a new Switch revision, but I didn't like BOTW and have no interest in getting the sequel. I would buy the new Switch by itself.
I just don't see Sega ripping off Breath of the Wild for Sonic somehow working out to a good game. Not only is it a poor fit for Sonic, but Sega doesn't have the chops to make something with the scope and ambition of BOTW. The main problem here is Sonic doesn't have an identity in terms of gameplay mechanics and Sega is desperately throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. That never works out well.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah, that's where I stand. I have about 10 Metroidvania games on my to-play list that cost $20 or less at full price, so why I should I pay $60 for this one?
@Maxz Hey, just be proud that you managed to beat it. It's a hard game and a lot of people didn't finish it. You got there in the end and you had fun while doing it. That's the important part.
@BloodNinja Darkwing Duck for sure. I adored that game as a kid and it's super fun to speedrun. I have a 12:54 which places me at 17th out of 72 runners, but I want to come back to bring that time down a bit. I have a profile on speedrun.com if you want to see what else I've run.
Although I should probably add that outside of platformers my skills vary quite a bit. Playing Devil May Cry 5 made me feel like I was an 80 year old grandma who didn't even know how to hold a controller upside right.
I'm in my mid 30's and my skills have only gotten better since I was a kid. I play plenty of hard games and I even hold a few speedrunning world records. I enjoy the challenge.

Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Great, But The GBA SP Was The Pinnacle Of Public Transport Gaming
It was for a time, but a hacked PSP and later the Analogue Pocket eclipsed it as the perfect public transit gaming system.
