Re: Poll: Will There Be A June 2023 Nintendo Direct?

Quarbit

I don't see any reason for Nintendo to put out a Direct in June. Right now Nintendo is riding a high from Zelda, so they would be best served by lying low for the summer and doing their big Direct in August or September.

E3 is dead, guys. There's no need to keep June as the month for the big showcases. It can be any time of year now.

Re: Talking Point: What Is A 'Traditional' Zelda Game, Anyway?

Quarbit

What a weird article. Everyone and their grandmothers can tell that BOTW was a huge departure for the Zelda. That isn't debatable. Some people liked those changes and some people didn't. Obviously, those who dislike BOTW value different elements in Zelda. This article feels like it's just trying to gaslight oldschool Zelda fans.

NL: "Oh, BOTW doesn't feel like a Zelda game to you? Well, you're clearly wrong and here's why".

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?

Quarbit

There honestly wasn't a lot for me personally, but that was a great direct. Nintendo had both quantity and quality of games in a wide variety of genres. The only downside is a lack of big AAA games with the exception of Zelda of course. Not surprising for February though — you save the big guns for the end of the year.

I'll go with 9/10.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Year In Review - Our Team Chats Big Switch Games, Butt Discourse, And Sakurai's Cat

Quarbit

I was definitely disappointed in the Switch this year. There wasn't anything — from AAA to indie — that interested me. I did buy Kirby due to the excitement of finally having a Kirby 3D Platformer, but I didn't care for the game. Pretty weak year overall.

Fortunately there's no shortage of older games to play, so I had a great year of gaming. Just nothing from 2022.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Dragon Quest Treasures

I was curious about this game, but those reviews put me off. Yes, they're positive, but those positive reviews also mention shallow gameplay and tedium. This seems like one of those games that's just a giant checklist to complete with numbers that go up. Basically it's an idle game like Cookie Clicker.

Re: Japanese Charts: Tactics Ogre Debuts Strong, Outselling God Of War: Ragnarok

Quarbit

@RushDawg Whether Sonic is in the top 10 or not doesn't matter. The strength for the rest of the top 10 is going to vary greatly based on what games have released recently, so relative position is best ignored. Sega's investors aren't interested in Sonic's placement relative to other games, but instead total units sold.

45k opening week for a AAA game from a Japanese company in Japan isn't good numbers.

Re: The Plot Synopsis For Sonic Frontiers Has Been Revealed

Quarbit

I just don't see Sega ripping off Breath of the Wild for Sonic somehow working out to a good game. Not only is it a poor fit for Sonic, but Sega doesn't have the chops to make something with the scope and ambition of BOTW. The main problem here is Sonic doesn't have an identity in terms of gameplay mechanics and Sega is desperately throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. That never works out well.

Re: Talking Point: How Good Are You At Games?

Quarbit

@BloodNinja Darkwing Duck for sure. I adored that game as a kid and it's super fun to speedrun. I have a 12:54 which places me at 17th out of 72 runners, but I want to come back to bring that time down a bit. I have a profile on speedrun.com if you want to see what else I've run.

Although I should probably add that outside of platformers my skills vary quite a bit. Playing Devil May Cry 5 made me feel like I was an 80 year old grandma who didn't even know how to hold a controller upside right.
