All of this arguing over the price is so silly. People are treating it like an ethical issue and it's not. It's basic supply and demand. Revenue = Number of sales * (price - production_cost), so companies will choose the ideal price point to maximize revenue. It's just basic math.
And on the consumer side, we're not talking about insulin here that people need to live. If the price point is too high for you, don't buy it. Don't get angry and attack Nintendo for being greedy. Just don't buy it. There's plenty of other games to buy.
$20 is not a lot of money and plopping it down for a convenient way to relive some nostalgia is a fair price for some people. I don't give a crap about Pokemon, so I'm not buying it, but I get why people are.
From the comments and ratings, you can really tell who has the Switch 2 as their only gaming system and who has multiple systems. I was hoping for some third-person exclusive games like Mario & Rabbids or big reveals like Dragon Quest XII or AA 7, but nada.
I'm primarily a PC gamer and I only buy exclusives on the Switch 2, so there's not going to be much for me here. But hopefully we get some new announcements (e.g. AA7) or much-needed reveals on upcoming game s(e.g. DQ XII).
@Itsashame You're missing the point. It's not about the game itself, but if parents hear you can play an 18+ game that's heavy on sex and nudity on the Switch 2 they won't buy it for little Suzie.
I mean, guys, Nintendo's primary demographic is children and they want to present themselves as a family-friendly company that parents can trust with their kids. It makes perfect sense why Nintendo would force censor a high-profile game with sexual content like this. If you want to play it uncensored, there's plenty of other platforms to do it on.
@Yalloo How could a bad movie ruin the source material of an entirely different medium (video games)? The 1993 Mario Bros movie certainly didn't hurt Mario.
@MirrorFate2 The hell does that even mean? Why do I have to waste my time on a difficulty too easy for me for dozens of hours to "earn" the right to play on my preferred difficulty level in a game I bought? How does that make any sense?
I have an RGB-Modded NES, a Retrotink 5, and a EverDrive N8 Pro. That's the gold standard for retro gaming, but I never use it. If I want to play NES games, I play on my PC or Steam Deck. Emulation is far more convenient, the graphics are better, runahead makes up for any latency issues caused by the emulation, and you have infinite controller options.
Well that's a flawed survey. 67% of gamers don't buy any games all year? I don't think so. That definition of "gamer" is WAY too loose if that's the case.
If games like this already have to abandon 60ps, I'm scared to think what performance will be like in 2030. Third party games aren't going to be viable on this system in a year or two.
So much for backwards compatibility. Oh well, stuff like this is why I buy all my third-party games on Steam. It'll still be playable in 10 years on whatever hardware I own in the future unlike Nintendo.
What annoys me about this discussion is that most games that come out are trivially easy and boring for people who like challenge. However, when the rare game comes out that's actually difficult, everyone starts whining and demands changes. It's so entitled.
Anniversaries and milestones like this are neat things for fans, but no business is going to change their output to match arbitrary dates. I suggest not expecting anything other than some minor marketing.
Those poll choices are exactly why I'm not interested in this Direct. It's great for Nintendo-first or only gamers, but that ain't me. PC first, Nintendo second.
We need a poll asking people if the Switch 2 is their only, primary, or secondary modern gaming system. That would be really interesting.
Lame. I primarily game on PC and I only bought the Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives. I have zero interest in a Direct showing off PC ports of years-old games. Hopefully they'll be some new announcements at least.
What's with the hate for Seth Rogen? You guys are weird.
Anyway, a Donkey Kong movie was inevitable. Not only do you have the big DK push at Universal Studios and the upcoming game, but you have all these CGI models and assets from the first Mario movie just waiting to be used. I'm excited. Hopefully it's a 2027 release alongside Zelda.
It's hard to tell from this short trailer, but I'm concerned that this game focuses more on combat than platforming. I prefer a platformer like the Genesis Shinobi games over a 2D brawler with some limited platforming. Guess I'll have to wait for the reviews and see.
The hate for scalpers is so overblown. It's not like a Taylor Swift concert where there's a limited number of tickets; Switch 2's are not going to run out. If you can't buy one at launch day because a scalper, you can wait a few months. No big loss.
@-Green- That's exactly the point. It's a quick little tour of the Switch 2 that people will only play for a few minutes and that's why it should have been free. Something silly for people to play with for a few minutes while in-between Mario Kart races on launch day.
@TerribleTerabytes Just because the system supports 4K/60fps (or 120fps) doesn't mean games will run at the performance. Even The PS5 can't run games consistently at 4k/60fps.
@Serpenterror You can't just ignore inflation in a list like that. Yes, the Magnavox Odyssey launched at $99.99, but that's $753 in 2024. The PS5 Pro is cheaper than the Odyssey.
I don't get why people are getting so upset about a higher-tier PS5 Pro being expensive. If Sony discontinued the base model then I would get it, but this is an optional upgrade for people who care a lot about graphics.
It's too expensive for me, so I'm not buying it. It's not for me, but I'm not upset it exists.
@mlt No, inflation adjusted prices are not ridiculous. Sony is a business and they want to make a profit. It doesn't matter if wages have kept pace with inflation; if the product costs more to manufacture then the price has to go up. They still have the standard PS5 for budget-conscious consumers.
$699 is a reasonable price for a Pro model (aka. intended only for hardware enthusiasts) given inflation and the cost of computer components like GPUs today. Yes, it's expensive and too expensive for me, but it isn't insane. Settle down guys.
The base model is still there for mainstream gamers not concerned with 60fps or higher resolutions.
I'm glad to see the world map is compact. I've never been a fan of sprawling open worlds, so this is great to see. Something around the size of LTTP or OOT is perfect for me.
Nothing much for me today. I already have a PC and Steam Deck, so seeing PC ports of older games like Pizza Tower doesn't appeal to me. The only game that really interested me is in the Trails in the Sky remake. It seems like its finally a good time for me to jump into this series.
The "I'm excited for what's next, but I still have a backlog to clear" answer is weird to me. The Switch 2 has a 99% chance of being backward compatible, so I'm going to play my Switch 1 backlog on the more powerful hardware with upscaled resolutions and higher/consistent framerates.
I'd say my answer would be: "Bring on the new hardware BECAUSE I have a backlog".
I've never inserted myself into the main character in a game, so silent protagonists are a waste for me. I certainly hope DQ XII moves away from that trope.
It's bizarre how many people here are opposed or even angry at the idea of graphics options. Yes, options are good. If I want to reduce the quality of the shadows to get a faster frame rate, let me do that.
@Ade117 Nintendo doesn't care about winning some fan arguments on reddit about which system sold the most. Beating the PS2 in sales doesn't give them a cash reward from Guinness. It's meaningless for them to alter their strategy to achieve it.

Nothing for me in this one.

We have very different definitions of stacked.

Re: Feature: "Demoralisation Is A Strong Word, But It Accurately Describes The Situation" - Why Do So Many Games Get Delayed?
I couldn't care less about delays. The game will come out when it comes out and I have plenty of things to do in the meantime.

Sigh, why do I have to beat normal to unlock hard? Just let me play on the difficult I want to start the game. I hate when games do this.
Re: Official Zelda Movie Photos Give Us Our Best Look Yet At Link And Zelda
@Gryffin Why would you want to comment on a thread before reading the other comments? If everyone did that, it's just yelling into a void.

Not impressed so far. It looks cheap; like cosplay. I need to see some more photos.

8 is a surprisingly high rating given the bland level design. That's like the most important aspect in a metroidvania.
