Re: Soapbox: What Pokémon GO And The Pokémon Main Series Could Learn From Each Other

PuppyToucher

@Heavyarms55 I honestly have no idea why they don’t implement something like this because it would solve a lot of problems and inject new life in the online side of Pokémon. Probably also keep people playing longer and give people reason to continue playing an older version even when a new version gets released because they may prefer the regional Pokédex from a different game.

Re: Soapbox: What Pokémon GO And The Pokémon Main Series Could Learn From Each Other

@greengecko007 @Heavyarms55 @Fandabidozi @Yorumi I really think Pokemon should add a ranked mode and in that mode just limit it to the Pokémon you released for that specific game. I also think you should have access to all those Pokémon while playing in the ranked playlist and they should have perfect IVs and fully customizable natures, items, EVs and be fully leveled. That way you can actually have a fully competitive battle scene in game and you won’t have as many players trying to hack the game just to use the Pokémon and strategies they want. You can have a social mode where you can use only Pokémon you have caught in game or brought over from past games with the pokebank. Pretty sure cod ww2 does this with their ranked mode in the sense of guns and attachments and they have a thriving multiplayer community.

As far as in game mechanics go, I’d like to be able to just be rewarded general EVs for the Pokémon I used during battle and let me as the player pick where I assign them. Rather than having to battle certain Pokémon to get them in the correct category. It would make playing the game and customizing your Pokémon less of a hassle.

@Ogbert @justin233 I would also like to see more Pokémon get evolutions or baby forms. Makes each Pokémon more interesting getting to see how it evolves. I also think having more baby forms would keep breeding a useful feature if they did go with the ranked online battle mode I described above.

@Majora101 @Archius9 I completely agree with you guys that their should be more legendary quests and more botw like additions and modifications.

Re: Review: Football Manager Touch 2018 (Switch eShop)

PuppyToucher

I got this game after talking with @NaviAndMii in the forums and man am I happy I picked it up because it is an amazing game! I love strategy games, but am at best a causal soccer fan. This game started out a little overwhelming because I had no idea what position players should even be placed in or how to check ratings. I watched one 10min YouTube video and have been hooked since. The game is so deep and I feel like my strategy has a tangible affect on the match rather than it being about just having the best players. I also haven’t had any trouble with the controls once I got used to where things were located in the menus. Anyone who is a soccer fan should pick this up, but so should fans of strategy games. I also think the switch is a great platform for the game. Being able to switch from tv to portable feels so great for this kind of game. This game feels like comfort food in that you can have as deep or as causal of an experience as you want and it really moves at whatever pace the player wants to interact with it at.

Re: Disgaea Refine Launches On Switch Later This Year In Japan

PuppyToucher

How is disgaea 5? I am always tempted to pick it up but it seems a bit... overwhelming I guess. I have played my fair share of fire emblem and advance wars games so I am familiar with the genre but this game seems to have a lot going on. Would love to hear opinions from some people who have played it. How is the story for someone new to the series?

Re: Nintendo Has Detailed The USB Cables You Can Use To Safely Charge Your Switch

PuppyToucher

@dom I am needing additional help I just got a switchcharge battery pack yesterday and I tried it without any incident but I am still worried if it is safe to use. Online I can only find this:

“A high capacity 10,000mAh battery, that matches the power requirements of the Nintendo Switch (5V/2.1A), provides you with up to 4x more battery life.“

But I am not the most tech savvy and the quoted info does not match the above info. Also where do I look to see the specs Nintendo recommends because the link above is in Japanese.

Re: Nindies Showcase For Nintendo Switch Airing Next Week

PuppyToucher

This comment section has so much aggression today. Interesting discussions all around, but @clvr has the one comment that Nintendolife should reply to.... why can’t we dislike posts? You added an ignore button but we cannot quickly see which posts people agree AND/OR disagree with? I don’t see how the addition of a dislike button would make this comment section any more toxic than it already can be. In this article alone there are plenty of examples of bickering and name calling and people ganging up on others. If all that plays then why not a dislike button too? It would give a more honest view about how this community feels about each comment.

Re: You Can Now Leave User Reviews On Nintendo's Official Website

PuppyToucher

@link3710 @SLIGEACH_EIRE I agree that on a 5 star scale you should be able to rate a game a zero. Some games really do deserve a 0 and shouldn’t automatically be given a slightly higher rating just due to existing.

I had not considered 1=0% and then moving up by 25% each time, that could very well be how it is supposed to be interpreted but I think having 0 as an option is far more intuitive.

As an aside, using a 1/10 review when we have been talking about a 5 star system seems kinda like a straw man fallacy. The percentage breakdown isn’t really the same between the two.

Re: Sounds Like Bandai Namco Really Is Working on Metroid Prime 4

PuppyToucher

If I’m being completely honest, it seems like @dom get bit more flack in the comments section of his articles than other writers do... some justified and some may be a bit over the top. I know he is new and for the most part I think he is doing a fine job and maybe we should cut him a little slack as he continues to get acclimated to this community.

Re: Nvidia Shares Swell As Nintendo Switch Continues To Sell Like Hot Cakes

PuppyToucher

@YummyHappyPills idk what all you are referring to with your comment, but as far as complaining about the articles about sales not having the charts included is a fair point. It adds context to everything the article talks about and it makes for a more complete article in general. I really wish they would just tell us why they don’t include them because if there is a legitimate reason I think a lot of the people who make the comments asking to see the charts would understand.

While I don’t personally complain about the news being late, I also do understand that criticism. This is their job, if I am not mistaken, and at my job everything I do is time sensitive, and I don’t get to use the excuse that I have a life. For me personally since I only have so much free time I don’t get to read all the articles on this website so it being a day or so late doesn’t affect me. But at the same time if the “news” is late then it’s not really “news” anymore it’s just info. A lot of people like to know what is going on right when it happens, especially when they feel personally invested like I am sure a lot of people who frequent these comments sections feel.

Not trying to speak for everyone, just adding my two-cents and trying to have a friendly, yet informative discussion about differing opinions.

Re: Nintendo Software Dominates The Week's Japanese Charts

PuppyToucher

Week after week @SLIGEACH_EIRE posts the full charts and tons of people in the comments, myself included, ask why this website cannot just do that themselves. You guys finally listened to feedback and added the list of the 26 gba games but it seems like you refuse to even answer why you don’t post the full charts. @dom please reply so we at least know our complaints/feedback is at the bare minimum seen.

Re: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Brings An Epic Quest To Switch This Summer

PuppyToucher

@Reignmaker I completely understand where you are coming from as I mainly play my switch in handheld also (probably a 90/10 split for me). I am not a graphics snob but I do feel we should be getting HD visuals nowadays. When I was looking into getting this game I was also worried that the handheld wouldn't be good enough to justify a purchase but I took the plunge anyways. Started playing in docked due to the reported performance in handheld but my portable gamer tendencies took over and I finally started playing in handheld mode and haven't looked back. Idk if they had a patch/update or not but the visuals and performance are not as bad as I have read they are and I am 25hrs into the game. I am glad I got it because so far the story is really intriguing. Anyways if you still don't think it's worth buying I completely understand but don't shortchange yourself on a good game if you could try it first. Maybe you could rent it and see how the performance is and you may feel it's good enough or that it isn't but at least that way you don't miss out on a quality game if it's not as bad as you have heard it is.

Re: GameStop Tweets About Nintendo Direct, Then Quickly Deletes The Tweet

PuppyToucher

I was talking a friend yesterday about the switch and he was asking what games to get. He then asked what is coming this year. I told him about Kirby and yoshi and then filled him in on all the rumors. He asked why all the secrecy.... I had no answer for him. Why is there so much secrecy to finding out this years games lineup? I know Nintendo likes to keeps its cards close to its chest but this is getting ridiculous.

Re: Nintendo Scores Big In The 2017 EDGE Magazine Awards

PuppyToucher

Not to take anything away from Arms because I haven't played it, outside a few matches in the testpunch, but I am surprised it made the list over splatoon 2. I also understand mk8d and skyrim on switch were ports but they both added new things (better battle system and slight gameplay tweaks for kart and portability for skyrim) and I would have had both those games in the list as well.

Re: Soapbox: What The Upcoming Pokémon Switch RPG Can Learn From Recent Pokémon Games

PuppyToucher

@GoldenGamer88 I like the ideas you brought up a lot! I was fine with mega evolutions for the most part, but z moves and other additions did seem over the top. I'd also like more puzzle solving in my gyms, similar to the Lt. Surge and Sabrina gyms from red/blue. But yes please let us tackle gyms in any order and have roaming Pokémon similar to XC2. I'd also like to see gym leaders having a full squad of 6 Pokémon and making intelligent use of their movesets, items and switching out Pokémon.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

PuppyToucher

I think they have a valid point. We don't go around calling sports fans addicted and we don't label sports as addicting... yet we see people spend countless hours of their day being preoccupied with sports so much so that we have multiple 24hr sports news networks, fantasy leagues and shows about fantasy sports, season ticket holders, grudges and violence based on teams you like, and the list goes on and on.

Personally, I think an individual can be addicted to anything, but to go as far as to list it as a mental disorder I think does to some extent trivialize other mental disorders listed.

I don't understand how video games are listed but I have never heard of sports, movies, tv, etc. being considered as a mental disorder due to addiction. I do think this adds new consideration to loot box problem, specifically if video game addiction truly is a mental disorder then how much responsibility should companies hold when adding gambling like elements to their products?

Re: Nintendo Switch is Still Number One in the Japanese Charts

PuppyToucher

@JaxonH They can try to spin it as a success but in their own words they said they wanted more sales...

"Given the large development costs we had on the 3DS version, we would have liked to have even a little more sales than we did in the end. But that doesn't mean we saw it as a failure by any means."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-01-31-capcom-there-is-a-possibility-of-resident-evil-series-reboot

Edit: my initial point was that I hope monster hunter worlds doesn't sell too well so that we can get a switch port... this quote from capcom follows the same logic I used.

Re: Nintendo Switch is Still Number One in the Japanese Charts

PuppyToucher

@PorllM I disagree, resident evil revelations was a 3ds exclusive until poor sales forced it to other consoles and now it's on pretty much every system.

Edit: as corrected in a comment below, I should not have said poor sales, but instead said not high enough sales to justify development cost.

Re: Nintendo Switch is Still Number One in the Japanese Charts

PuppyToucher

@Ardisan eh it may be a little selfish but I didn't say I hope it bombs and doesn't sell a single copy... I just said I hope it doesn't do too hot, as in I hope it doesn't set the world ablaze with ridiculous amounts of sales. I don't think it's that wrong of a consumer to want games on their console of choice and that is made more likely if said game needs a sales boost. Also full disclosure I own a PS4 (and xb1, but that isn't the topic of convo I guess).
