Stability! Stability for all!
Man, this game is enjoyable as hell as is - any performance improvements on top are just cherry
Going to be getting this for the Switch on Friday. I thought the game performed well at 60fps already?
A slight res bump would be great, as long as it doesn't impact performance.
Do something for the resolution in handheld mode, please
I assume they mean image quality with this? It launched at flawless 60fps but at lower resolution than other versions. There are no improvements that can be made to the performance, only the graphics themselves. I may well be mistaken and there are some drops I missed though I guess.
@TheMadPolarBear It does lol I'm confused too
I am still on the fence about this game. Is it fun?
I tried using my remote controlled car to kick a tennis ball, it's not easy and definitely not fun.
@PorllM It does run at 60fps, but the resolution is 526p undocked and 720p docked.
@Nincompoop It is a LOT of fun. It has more floaty physics, so it's more fun than in real life😂 as for gameplay, it's a lot easier than it looks. Although be careful if you go online, people have been playing this game for YEARS so maybe turn cross play off for a while.
@Nincompoop I haven't spent a better 20$ on any other game ever. Must buy.
Performance is not flawless at all. There is noticeable input lag compared to what I'm used to playing on PC for so long. Any improvements on image quality would be welcome, but how the game feels is most important.
I do get the occasinal frame skip, so I hope they fix that. A resolution bump would be nice, too.
Has someone tried a 3 player matches, with player 1 having the pro controller and player 2 AND player 3 using a single horizontal joy-con?
I tried this at home and the player 2 joy-con was'nt recognized at all, and it ended with a 2 player match, but with the right half of the screen beeing splitted between a working player 3 car and a static player 2 car (impossible to control) even if in the switch menus it was connected.
My experience in that regard was a total mess at best.
@TheTetrisGuy Resolution doesn't come under performance though, resolution is the image quality. So unless it's now 65FPS or 120FPS (which is impossible) the performance hasn't been improved.
UNLESS it wasn't a perfect 60fps before, and some tiny drops have been removed. But I haven't heard of or noticed any drops previously, hence my confusion/question.
One thing.
The ps4 owner still never able to play together with Switch / xbox1 / pc players due to Stupid Cross Play Bans from Sony.
Can u play 2 players splitscreen online with this game? Like MK8D?
Input lag has nothing to do with framerate. The game can be a flawless 60fps( I am not sure if it is though) but with input lag being present a movement or button press doesn't translate to an instant action as it should.
Clearly needs more stables!
Shame I already bought the Xbox One version.
4k patch confirmed!
More res please! Or less fade-out, often times you can barely see the ball!
@geox30 input lag compared to Pc? Of course, it’s console! Feels very similar to ps4 in terms of input lag, I only play in handheld mode.
@Anti-Matter
We won't get that. But I think the purpose of cross play was primarily to have Switch players land into an installed community, which is the case with PC + Xbox owners.
@Jaredfrogman
What you say can only be true if playing on a TV with high latency (which is the majority of them). There is no excuse for the same to occur when in handheld mode. In this case, there is something not right with the game itself.
P. S If you want to put this to the test, try connecting your PS4 to a decent PC monitor, if you have one available and see if you can spot the difference.
I just came here to express my appreciation for the Alan Partridge reference in the subtitle. "He must have a foot like a traction engine."
He must have a foot like a traction engine!!
@geox30 If you change the deadzone to like .05 among other settings the controls feel much better.
@PorllM Have you ever tried going into the Eshop while this game is still open?It makes it lag really bad. The game is really pushing the processor and the RAM which, as well as affecting the Eshop is hammering the battery. RL is by far the biggest battery killer I've got. Play a 5 minute game online and it can take up to 7% off your battery.
Good news is, Psyonix and Panic Button know about it and last I heard they were looking into a fix. Hopefully that's what this is.
@Guovssohas yep
@OorWullie I admit I haven't noticed that! Maybe that's what they mean by fixing performance then!
@Anti-Matter don't worry. You can still play with Xbox pc owners.
I want better image quality, no doubt. A big boost to splitscreen would be huge.
Cross play is one of the best things to happen to gaming in a long time. Being able to set up private matches with my mate who's playing on his Xbox is just superb. We live on opposite sides of the world and for years have been forced to play mobile games with each other due to owning different consoles.Not any more. We can play each other at RL, Mantis Burn Racing and now Pinball FX3. It's a real game changer for me.
Love, love this game and am so glad it came to switch so I could play it!
I haven't noticed performance issues, but then I've only played it on Switch.
That said, improvements are always appreciated!
Cool news!
The way early releases can receive performance updates as the developer masters the hardware is a big draw for me about digital distribution.
Really just a handheld resolution boost would be fantastic. I'd like to see a locked 720p in handheld mode with 900p in docked mode.
I hadn’t played this much since I bought it but last night I was online with three friends playing Splatoon when the servers went down for maintenance and so we all switched over to Rocket League. Needless to say it was a blast and now I have a newfound appreciation for the game.
@ACK
I have made some adjustments there and although it is somewhat better,it does not remedy the actual problem. Maybe I am spoiled,Idk,but for this game in particular it just doesn't feel right.
@TheMadPolarBear It does. I guess they're making it 60 fps-er
@PorllM I heard that the frame rate dropped in the Switch version.
Was so looking forward to this game but I'll never own it ... Big shame
@thesilverbrick It takes some time and practice before you can get to being even an average player at RL, it's difficult to even connect with the ball let alone influence matches. See when you do get there though the true game reveals itself. Incredible stuff!
This is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played... but it's so fun that I want to keep getting better... hopefully they improve the menus... they are too small and impossible to read in splitscreen.
@OorWullie Yeah, I’m still garbage at the game, but I like that you can modify it to suit your experience. Turning the ball into a hockey puck (to stop it from bouncing so much) and adding super powers to the vehicles made it a lot more fun in a Mario Kart kind of way. I found myself improving at the matches went on and subsequently enjoying it much more. Something just clicks after a while. I’m sure I will like it even more as time goes on.
@NinNin Only time I have experienced frame rate issue during some of the goal explosions. Especially the popcorn one. Obviously this doesn't affect game-play so not a massive issue.
Hopefully a res boost, although that might be asking too much...
@Nincompoop As long as you enjoy competitive online play, Rocket League is an endless source of entertainment. I've been playing for over 2 years on PC, PS4 and now Switch. Other games come and go but Rocket League stays constant.
You people do realize they could increase the performance still, even if it is capped, we just won't see an effect from it. That just means that there's more room for them to improve the image quality in the future.
@OorWullie I grew up reading Oor Wullie comics so I just wanted to say thanks for the fact that your user name put a smile on my face after a rough day at work 🤗
Resolution
@Nickster076
My update is also only the 1.0.2
However this imho makes perfect sense, since the latest Switch build was only 1.0.1 whereas the ones for the other platforms surely got a higher numbering because they have been in development for years now.
(Also: they are not talking about 1.0.4 but about 1.40!)
Since the PS4, XBOX and PC releases are the ones that - due the way bigger user-base - are obviously in their main focus making this twitter announcement.
@geox30 I’ve wanted to do that test, but my monitor can’t conndct without an adapter. My tv is old... thinking about it handheld is better than ps4, when I double mash jump on ps4 sometimes it doesn’t register, haven’t had that problem on Switch.
I saw a huge improvement. Before, anything off in the distance beyond would be just a bunch of solid colored lines stacked on top of each other. Now it has been smoothed out. I don't notice much difference now between this and the XBox One version I used to play in the Pre-Switch days.
Shame the shadows are gone in docked mode, but love the crisper performance. Appreciate what they've done with the patch overall. If only they could patch some skill my way so I dont suck so much at it...
@ZombieGavinS Forgot to reply to you.Happy to see another Oor Wullie fan. I grew up reading him and The Broons myself. It used to be as much a part of Xmas as turkey and crackers.
So that's why there's a discount on the eShop...
I was interested in purchasing the game, it's very attractive and I've never owned it, but I would prefer to wait some months and get the game for $20 fully-polished, than to buy it with low resolution.
PS: I don't frequently play online amd I have no experience with the game, would you guys still recommend me to get it?
