We quite liked Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp when we reviewed it recently, but it would seem that not everyone is pleased with Nintendo's latest mobile outing.
Model Chrissy Teigen, for example, has given up on the game because of the "jerks" which populate it and their increasingly selfish demands:
Harsh, but perhaps fair. What do you make of the game? Do you think these animals are all complete jerks? As ever, we'd like to know, so leave a comment.

Wow..
Imagine giving a crap about what she thinks..
Lol - Hissy Celebrity fit. .
Hopefully she’s joking
Loved the previous AC games, but the entire concept is based on materialism and debt so no surprise people don't resonate with the core themes sometimes...too close to reality. Now, where's that tree I need to shake?
It all sounds tongue-in-cheek to me. Looks like she's having fun with the game.
@Shellcore agreed. I'll pass on this game. It is a money grab. The joy that defines animal crossing isn't in it.
Haha, really? Did people actually think this was going to be a carbon copy of the main line games?
Of course you have to build these animals something to get them to come to your camp. If a real place doesn't have amenities or amenities you don't like, then you aren't going to go.
Yes it would be better if the villagers had more dialog, but have you looked into how much time it takes to translate all of that? Nintendo isn't going to use a triple a budget on a mobile game for man power in translation of dialog. AC has more dialog than any game I believe.
I had low expectations for this game. Now I'm enjoying it a good bit for a good 15 minutes a day.
As promised, I have yet to install it. And Ms. Super Model‘s opinions aren‘t winning me over to Pocket Camp either lol.
U mad, bro?
Well it certainly isn't news that the villagers in Animal Crossing are jerks.
ANYWAY, if you have a Nintendo Switch, I will hang out with you!!
Heard bad things about how heavily pay-to-play is in this. I know I'm in the minority here, but I preferred Mario Run's transparent and upfront model. Still play that on the commute after 7 months, so no regrets over whether the £9.99 was value for money or not.
Hahaha oh I see... It's a person looking way too deep into a light-hearted "videogame". This is what happens when someone expects cyber life to somehow function just like real life, or something absurd to that effect. Chill out, it's REALLY NOT that serious, lady...
@SoIDecidedTo A money grab game that I can download and play entirely for free? Wow, I must be doing something right Have not and will not spend real life money, mind, and still have spend a good chunk of real life time and enjoyed it
And whether this model is joking or not, a home does not equal a camp site - I do think people want certain things out of places they want to spend time in Although I do agree some of the requirements are quite a lot
who cares what she thinks, really.
I also have no idea who she is, so she really doesn't matter in my world
I think the internet needs less articles on her and gaming. She seems a dolt, and if she wasn't "attractive" no one would really care about her viewpoint on this game or her playing the Switch courtside at an NBA game.
I think she's being serious and I think it's hilarious!
She looks like she is copying resseti!!
Why does anyone follow a model on social media? Makes about as much sense as following your local butcher.
These are joke tweets, right? Please?
Sounds a bit like real life to me! People can be jerks!
Apparently she is a big fan of Animal Crossing and her criticisms are fairly accurate from my experiences so far. Basically the animals in Pocket Camp are "friends" in the way that I was "friends" with certain kids in school (i.e. they want me around when I can do something for them). Not only I have to do their collecting, I then have to redecorate my campsite to get them to lounge around all day at it?!?
There is virtually nothing to do outside feeding the unending consumerism of purchasing/building stuff (and managing an inventory system designed by Satan's accountants). It is like Tom Nook got a magic lamp and reshaped the Animal Crossing world into his Capitalistic Utopia.
Haha wow we have quite the delicate flower here dont we.
Player:"I'm gonna build a campground for all to enjoy"
Animal:"Hey I hope you don't mind but I only enjoy a certain style of campground"
Player:"F**K YOU!!!"
Animal:".....But your the one who invited me to this campground you made FOR US"
Player:".................F**CK YOU!!!"
anyone thinking that this Animal Crossing is the same as the full game ones are only deluding themselves. We all know mobile games are hot garbage, this is no different.
Some articles don't need to be made. This is one of them.
Eh, it's a funny little commentary on the game. Nothing more.
It's like how, in the first one on Gamecube, I would complain about having to criss-cross town so many times because Nosegay lent her Gameboy to Buck, but he gave it to Alli, who gave it to Eloise who probably ate it after dropping it in a bag of peanuts for all I know.
I don't hate that game, I love it. It's just fun to see how... weird these animals can be when trying to compare them to humans.
Guys! I think she was joking 😂. In a previous twitter post she said she didn’t like because it didn’t feel like a real animal crossing game. This was just a joke post, she wasn’t actually angry she just wasn’t enjoying the game that much.
Edit: This is what her tweet said: “pocket animal crossing might be okay for you AC newbies but for us tom nook loyalists it is merely a hit of the crack that is actual, real, animal crossing. It lacks the heart. The soul. It's a sandwich with no meat. A car without tires.”
I don't even know who she is.
Well she's verified so her opinion obviously matters.
@HipsterInkling she’s very obviously not serious here. If the post alone doesn’t give that away, she’s been an outspoken AC fan for a long time
Alternative headline:
Femoid Trolls Incels.
@Darknyht So she hates Pocket Camp, right? That's the narrative she's peddling.
Then how come she spends money on it? I like the app but haven't spent a penny on it.
The article ommitted to include this tweet that makes her look incredibly silly:
She does have a point... anyone who acts like the characters in AC in real life would be considered a jerk.
The bit about throwing money at fruit does seem a little over the top, but it can be really frustrating if you need just one more piece of fruit to complete a request, so I can sort of understand why she might have overreacted.
lol
I think it’s pretty obvious she’s just joking, people. Take a chill pill, as the youths would say.
2Jerky4Her
Pretty sure she's just pulling everyone's leg. Either way, it's definitely getting her some attention....I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
Idk Animal Crossing Pocket Camp just shows all the flaws with the series as a whole. Ironically all the anger for the pay for stuff, if compared to a real game in the series isn't that bad. Like three hours for fruit, isn't like three days in a real game? That is of course if no one time travels. Go make a furnature thing and it will take this many days. Instead of, welp Tom Nook didn't have it. Either I wait, time travel, or hack. Why would I play a game where everything is tied to waiting (If I don't time travel). Where it feels like I'm limited cause of luck. Thankfully online fixes a lot of those problems, till hacking screwed up the value of items. Man AC is kinda a bad series.
@PorllM It never fails to disappoint me to see how humor of any kind is completely lost on people on the internet. People become literalist robots when they go online. Kind of weird.
It's clear that she's joking.
@BAN Actually fix your joke radar.
It's pretty obvious that she's frustrated with the app. I've seen that sort of reaction to it since day one. And let me tell you, that reaction is no joke to them. It's serious business.
Heck, she said she would delete the app and yet keeps tweeting about it. She can't quit it.
@GC-161 Dude, she’s talking about a game with talking anthropomorphic animals that’s about collecting furniture that you buy with leaves. And she’s calling those fictional animal people “jerks” as though they’re real people or something. If you think she’s actually being serious, there’s something wrong with you. She may be frustrated with the game, but this is obviously tongue-in-cheek.
hhhhh she's joking, obviously. she might be ticked at the game enough to tweet about it, but she's not stabbing at people who are enjoying it. there is no actual reason to be offended, guys.
Lol this one made me laugh:)
Why are games journalists regurgitating this same article? This person appears to be someone most gamers don't seem to know or care about.
@JohnnyC
Didn't notice yet that it is p2p. Maybe when people think that this is a normal AC instead of a free version. And yes, when you will play hour after hour you need to pay but that's normal for a f2p game.
I really love this free AC and I will support Nintendo with spending some Euro's on this game.
Most played game on my iPad at the moment. I hope we will see a huge AC soon on the Switch.
@BAN So you're telling me that no one has EVER gotten frustrated playing games with cartooney looking characters or silly themes, right?
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
I think people today legitimately like getting triggered. Makes them feel empowered or something.
Wait, she's serious?
yawn ... Oh hey all I was dreaming about cake and milkshakes!
@GC-161 So she is simply what the mobile industry calls a "whale" or perhaps she foolishly thought there was something more that would eventually be unlocked.
Looks like someone wants attention.
Loser
I dislike Animal Crossing because of similar reasons but only because it's tedious. I don't care if they're jerks lol
Looks like Nintendo won't sign her on for as a spokesperson now.
1. She's joking. 2. She's a model and is married to John Legend.
I think she's obviously joking
Reminds me of how Yuu Watase had similar complaints about villager demands (right in the author's notes of a Fushigi Yugi volume). And that was about the GC title, or even the N64 one! Animal Crossing lives up to its longtime reputation of a nonchalantly trollish game. XD
That said, I'm more baffled by an adult asking "what is the game teaching us?" Only what you allow it to teach you, so if it teaches you anything unfortunate, it's on you. Accidental aeaops happen, but a gullible audience can be a curse for any fiction.
@Dezzy My girlfriend studies Fashion, so follows models for ideas and inspiration... Also, she likes to look at clothes.
I'd probably also follow my local butcher if he was on Twitter. Swell guy
I would like her to provide examples of animals being jerks. I don't get how can they be.
i dated her back in the day
i see she still blows things out of proportion
So...they ask you to put a couch in your camper and then there is a "montage of them sleeping on it"
I have no interest in Animal Crossing, but this sounds hilarious.
Someone should get her a squatty potty for Christmas. From that picture looks like she could really benefit from one.
The game teaches you that you should be nice to mean people even as they shamelessly use you as a tool for getting everything they want in life.
The really hilarious thing is that so many people here don't realise that she's joking. If you ever wondered why you have to write "jk" or "/sarcasm" when you're messing around on the Internet, just look at some of the responses to this.
@Kohaku Fair point and I know this has its fans alongside many other similar mobile games. I wasn't having a go at this, I'm not a fan of the entire freemium model where you can end up spending a significant amount of money. Mario Run is the only mobile game I play as that one cost was the only fee necessary to fully enjoy everything the game has to offer.
@imacdvguy We don't need a game to teach us that. That's what companies/customers/governments are for!
@NEStalgia you could even argue that that is what life is for!
@SoIDecidedTo Sadly, I fully expect this to be better monetized than Super Mario Run... and thus the FTP blueprint will be used by Nintendo going forward on mobile. This is why we can't have nice things.
@Damo soooo...I don’t wanna be a jerk like those animals the article is about, but I think you spelt her surname wrong twice.
If you look at her Twitter username, it’s Teigen, not Tiegen.
It genuinely amazes me nobody mentioned that in any of the 70+ comments; I guess coming from a language where you read (almost) 100% of the time exactly what is written letter by letter helps you notice these small typos
If this was supposed to be funny she did a great job. If not, which is what I fear, just wow.
Maybe NL should post all the tweets and not the 2 out of context so people with less than half a brain can realize she's joking? Like she' a big fan of AC and you make it seem like she's new to this and raging.
Also that picture choice is racist af and you should be ashamed.
Someone needs to chill.
This article goes to show how many people actually lack any sense of humor. I knew it was bad, but wow.
Was gonna put his usual "animals" line, but this seemed more appropriate.
@Dezzy
I'd like to think a butcher's thoughts on anything, might have more value than this.
She is joking, guys. Look at yourselves for getting triggered so easily when you call her unbelievable for getting "angry" at a mobile AC game lol. She's so much funnier than most of you :/ Not to mention, all her critics are true. What else has this game offered, other than keeping asking the player to spend leaf tickets and build new things? It gets boring really fast.
@JohnnyC it’s really not pay to play much at all. If you’ve played mainline AC none of the waiting feels like anything and there’s always something to do while the trees are refreshing and they only take a couple hours instead of a day like in the main games.
@MeloMan Well, I know for a fact from following her on Twitter that she is a gamer and a Nintendo one at that (She's tweeted quite a bit about playing Mario Odyssey). I wouldn't be surprised if she's played an Animal Crossing before and had different expectations
Jerk ?!
Calling those cute innocent anthromorphic animals jerk, joking or not, She is actually the female dog !!
Even i know Amiibo Festival was a big failure, i never condemn that game.
She has a point actually 😂 If someone pointed out specific things they needed before they could visit my campsite I’d be like WTF?
I honestly have no idea whatsoever who she is...
This is Animal Crossing.
Money controls everything!
Also arguably real life.
Unless you've hit the crafting material wall in pocket camp. Then crafting materials control everything.
TBH i dl'd the game & it took forever to load. Eventually got tired of waiting & just deleted the game off my tablet... Not impressed... 😪doesn't matter already played the other ac games & dl'd tablet game out of curiosity. 😀
Happy Gaming! 😊
She is scary ......
@GC-161 How old am I? Uhh... how old are YOU? The only people who think that's a relevant question are like twelve year olds and people that got dropped too many times as a baby, so nice job. Anyway, joking and frustration are not mutually exclusive. She might be actually frustrated with the game, but I guarantee you that Chrissy Teigan, a woman who's famous for things not at all gaming related, is not trying to provide an actual, useful, 100% sincere critique of this game. But I'm sure you know you that and are just arguing because you enjoy arguing with people here over trivial crap, it seems.
@GC-161 "So she hates Pocket Camp, right? That's the narrative she's peddling.
Then how come she spends money on it? I like the app but haven't spent a penny on it.
The article ommitted to include this tweet that makes her look incredibly silly:"
That tweet alone proves that she is joking. How do you not see that? It's like saying "Man, I hate McDonald's!.... that's why I spend $50 there every week."
@Anti-Matter You're defending fictional animals on the internet while in the process calling someone the B word. You need to calm down and think on what you're doing playboy. Making yourself look like a child.
Well, this generates an enormous amount of free publicity so there’s that, but on the other hand, I still think this game belongs on a dedicated gaming system and not on a mobile device. I’ve played it and I like it, but it feels like a snack cracker compared to a real animal crossing game. The fun wears off as it gets harder to obtain stuff. I don’t see myself playing it in the long term like the other AC games.
It's a joke people. She is an avid Nintendo fan and just messing about. Here's her husband the singer John Legend, giving her, her Nintendo switch which she left by accident at a hotel.
https://twitter.com/chrissyteigen/status/934479975180144641
@Anti-Matter Watch the language, dude...
@Joeynator3000
Oh, I'm really Sorry if that B words was Restricted in this site.
Butterface model has less than butter smooth rant on facebook about the nature of the game going back to 2001 that's now entirely optionally monetized. Boo hoo.
NintendoLife loving all this site traffic on a satire article.
Whoa... calm down. It’s just a game. It’s not teaching anything, it’s no different than half of the big smartphone games. I don’t mind it, playing it until I grow bored, I mean it’s closer to real AC than I expected at least...
@NintyNate Oh, sounds like a lovely dream!
@Dezzy it would make MORE sense to follow your local butcher as they may have some great offers on, unless your a vegan but they would already know your a vegan as you would have told them and blocked them, but a celebrity model will only advertise for others and virtue signal at you telling you how awfull you are unless you do as they say. ( not as they do )😴
She seems to have dozens of tweets about Nintendo, 3DS and Mario, including the new Switch game.
I like her take on the whole throwing money at fruit to make it grow. I didn’t even download the game, had thought about it, but not into that style, maybe later on. With the Nintendo Switch and the portability, If it wasn’t for ARG phone games, I’d probably go back to a Nokia tiny phone as I don’t do much other than surf the.web and text.
I would play this, Super Mario Run, and Pokémon Go, but sadly, my iPhone (a 4) is too old to even run the minimum required iOS that supports these games. And my Windows Phone doesn't even support these games at all.
So while everyone is enjoying these games, I'm missing out yet again, like I did with Pokémon back in the early 2000s. I wish I went for a new iPhone instead of a Windows Phone. Probably the only case of buyer's remorse that I've ever had.
@JasmineDragon I assumed so, but to be fair I wouldn't be so sure, since there's no way to assure this (at least with the information provided just here). It does happen that people say this kind of stuff seriously and it's also quite common... Still there's no reason to get triggered about it though.
@astrofan1993 How long have you had your windows phone? If you’re eligible for an upgrade, depending on your network/contract situation, just trade in your windows phone and your old iPhone and put the money towards a new one. Most carriers let you buy smartphones with zero down and you make payments each month for a certain amount of time.
If it’s a money issue, I’d recommend buying the iPhone SE. It has the same internals as the iPhone 6 with the body of a 5S, so you can run the current version of iOS but it’s significantly cheaper than both the iPhone 8 and 7. I think some carriers even give them away for free if you sign a contract.
There are probably cheap android phones you could get that play those games, too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
@MagicEmperor oh trust me it was! Haha
People are building jail cells in Animal Crossing.
http://mashable.com/2017/11/27/animal-crossing-pocket-camp-labor-prison-cult
Chrissy didn't offer me her hammock yet. That's why I am not her friend.
Common sense, research, and sarcasm detection seems to be lacking here on NL
Seriously though, who is this woman, and we should care because...?
@LinkSword Yeah it seems like she's just joking. (and even if she isn't, why care?)
Nothing to make a big deal over.
Who?
Even if they can be a little annoying sometimes, how could cute villagers be jerks? Also, this needs an "opinion" tag.
Well, Tom Nook is DEFINITELY a jerk, and a hustler as well...
@Curlynob 3. She's smoking hot, and 4. She's the all too funny co-host of Lip Sync Battle (next to LL Cool J, which will probably also not mean all that much to most of the youngsters on this site. Must be our age... ).
@tanookisuit Butterface? They say that you can't argue about taste, but unless you really don't like people of that ethnicity for whatever reason, then you can hardly say she's ugly.
She isn't a famous model for nothing: apparently the professionals seem to think she looks pretty decent as well...
I thought her comments were pretty funny. I'm enjoying the game for what it is, but it's closer to standard mobile fare than the level of quality and content we'd normally associate with Nintendo. Not a bad thing, as long as they keep their top-notch stuff on the Switch and 3DS.
@bezerker99
10 points sir
@BAN Is that's suppose to be a joke?
What you mentioned & what you implied she did is called being SARDONIC.
And that only happens if that person is immensely BITTER or is scornful about that which he/she is mocking.
So yeah... she's frustrated about the game. Like I said she was.
Thanks for confirming what I said. Dunno why you had trouble with that, tho. Must be hereditary.
@BAN I asked you how old you were because you've obviously not lived long enough to know what being SARDONIC is.
And it's hilarious because you're trying to explain to me that she can be joking and frustrated at the same time. Which is what being a sardonic ahole is.
The thing is, when a person is sardonic that only happens if said person's feelings were hurt. Like when you went about dropping babies on their lil' heads. That happened because I hurt your feelings or something. And you went all snowflakey on me.
Anyway, you can go back to fluffing couch pillows. G'wan.
Another unprofessional clickbait article, that doesn't even qualify as news. Thanks Damien McFerran! Why should I visit this site to read cheap rubbish like this?
@dezzy @ImagineerNik yeah my local butcher’s an absolutely hilarious guy. I’d follow him if I was on twitter and he was also on twitter.
@BAN I got my Windows Phone in August of 2015. Technically speaking, you're supposed to upgrade your phones every two years, so I'm probably eligible for an upgrade. I got my iPhone 4 in June of 2011, so I'm DEFINITELY eligible for an upgrade.
However, I do not plan on trading in my iPhone 4 until I know that the save data for my games will carry over to a new iPhone. I sunk a lot of hours into some city-builder games, and I would hate to have to start all over again once I got a new iPhone.
But even then, money is still an issue. Without a job, I cannot pay for a new phone, down payment or not. So until I get a job, I am stuck with my Windows Phone for the time being.
@Muddy_4_Ever this is exactly why we can't have nice things. I was really hoping for a full animal crossing experience on mobile. For me, the best way to earn money would have been a small fee to buy the game, like $5, and then with each month have an event (like when Pave comes). During this event, of you don't collect all of the furniture, you could buy any items you didn't get. And in some of the shops, there would be a new item each week you could buy with real cash. I'd be all in on that.
