Re: Back Page: What's Your Pokéshape Star Sign?

Dogg now and forever. I'd like to think I'm the calm and thoughtful until someone expresses mutual interest in a hobby of mine, in which the bubbly hyper side comes out. As far as people go, how they treated me in the past is how I think of them now. For better or for worse

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

Pip_Pipston

I played it every day loyally for the first few months. Then it was around Halloween that I finally stopped. It just...empty. Like the shop would only stock like 10 different pieces of furniture. Every recipe I would get would be a duplicate (even though I wasn't even close to getting them all). And after looking at the updates and remembering all the cool villager interactions with the furniture in Pocket Camp, I accepted that I needn't blame myself. The game is beautiful and it was fun for a while, but it seems to put way too much focus on travelling to other people's islands and not enough on the game itself. Even thinking of the villagers simply flying a kite in PC gives me a smile, but the most interesting thing the villagers do in NH is take pictures of things.

The game was ambitious, but there were a lot of things that tipped the scales for me (Isabelle serving no purpose, my island getting horrible RNG for Celeste and Redd, etc)

I was going to bash the game for the blatancy indicated in the tagline, but just looking at the Steam page and the reviews so far makes it look promising. If it has as much polish and charm as Hades does, I may get it day 1.

Still it's a bit difficult to compare it to the game that got an Overly Positive (98%) rating on Steam with over 10,000 reviews before it was even out of early access

I agree with earlier comments when it comes to comparing the furniture in New Horizons to Pocket Camp. Perhaps that's another reason the game feels stagnant with Nooklings just rotating stock is that at least Pocket Camp has so much more furniture with so much more interactability for the villagers. And this from furniture you still have to craft (also, adjust the drop rate for unobtained recipes, dangit! I don't want to be forced to take a fifth golden toilet recipe!)

Also I want my Red Riding Hood wolf plushies in New Horizons. That alone would make me soooo happy

Lord, the comment on UGC made me wince. Such things are fine in Mario Maker and the like, but I bought the game as a single player experience. I've never done online island hopping. I've hosted a few people so I could give them the doubles of some of my recipes. I'm just very disappointed in that some of the stuff (like different styles/color variations) can only be gotten through island hopping.

I may just be an antisocial hermit, but most of my gaming time is solo. I hoped the online aspect wouldn't be as important as it is, but I got my hopes up too high for this day and age

@LatsaSpege I do agree with you on the timed stuff. Though I'd also like to add that it's a bit annoying that you can only get the last few holiday DIYs on that specific day. Because then the event is over. For a lot of them (ex: Bunny Day), I don't want to keep the decorations up for long past the holiday.

It might be just me, but I was very disappointed to learn that the best Halloween recipes could only be gotten that day. Decorating before an event is half the fun for me.

Re: Poll: Pokémon Sword And Shield Launched A Year Ago, Has Your Opinion On Them Changed?

Pip_Pipston

It's sad, because I LOVE most of the new Pokemon designs. The gym leaders were given a bit more personality. But everything else was terrible. Hop seeming to pop up around EVERY corner wanting to battle, the story sucked, and everything felt so lackluster.

Then there's the online stuff. Whoever designed that system needs to be demoted and to bring back a working system, at least to Gen 6.

Re: Video: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trailer Shows Us What's New In November

I used to play it every day since launch, but now it seems I barely touch it once a week. I've just found it so frustrating how the shop only cycles through a few items of little to no variety (I guess to encourage visiting other islands, but I like to keep my games single player).

That, and how my usual objective of collecting DIY recipes always ends up with me getting the same ones over and over again without even giving me the option when a villager gives me one. And I've given up trying to find Celeste every month. The zodiac furniture may be pretty, but RNG has made it far too much of a hassle.
