Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Switch Physical Version Requires Downloads

Pip_Pipston

@Aya-chan I haven't given the games a proper chance but I've always heard high praises for them. I wanted to give them a try, but after hearing about how they treated Hideo Kojima, the guy who made the games so great, I can't look at their logo without feeling some form of disgust. I was tempted when they were listing off all the stuff included, but it still doesn't sit well with me.

Re: Feature: The 10 Best Ace Attorney Cases, Ranked

Pip_Pipston

Bridge to the Turnabout, and the end of the third game in general, hit me unexpectedly hard. I didn't realize until the very end that almost every case resulted in capital punishment. It only clicked after seeing the drawing of all the characters after the last case, with Mia, Misty Fey and Godot being on the top page and Phoenix and friends being on the bottom. The one connection I could find was that everyone on the bottom page was alive. Since Misty was the victim of the case and Mia was killed in an earlier game, that implied Godot was dead too. Guess I didn't expect the semi-future of the Phoenix Wright universe to still have the death penalty.

Re: Soapbox: Paper Mario: Sticker Star Was When The Series Came Unstuck

Pip_Pipston

I actively try to forget Sticker Star ever existed. I pushed past all of my complaints on the game until I got to a point where I had to light up the basement of some building in the harbor in Toad Town. I remember finding the place much earlier in the game and thinking "Oh, I don't have the right Thing yet. I'll come back once I find it." Even at the later part in the story, I had no idea what to use. I had Matches but the game wouldn't accept that. I later learn that many levels back I missed a Lightbulb that took the place of a torch's flame in the middle of a tedious level. Most story-related Things were either obvious or you got them from another story event. And this one was on some random wall!?!

There was also the ghost mansion where I found that Kersti (or whatever her name was) was absolutely no help in finding the Boos or giving me any hints. After those two incidents, my frustration became too much and I refuse to touch it again.

Re: Nintendo Reassures Fans "More" N64 Games Will Be Added To Switch Online

Pip_Pipston

@HammerGalladeBro You sir have my respect. Some of the minigames you're forced to play for completion were seriously janky. And there's those races with that stupid beetle. I never really minded exploring everywhere with every character, but some of the other stuff was painful to get through. Still worth it to face one of the most entertaining final bosses of all time. And to willingly complete it 3 times in a row within a short amount of time must've taken a lot of skill and patience

Re: Developers Don't Take Kindly To EA's Single-Player Gag On Twitter

Pip_Pipston

Yikes. Talk about polarizing. I enjoy couch multiplayer games and have played a few online games before (Loving Fall Guys on the Switch), but I always go back to what games have always been for me: single player. It's the only way to truly immerse myself and embrace the escapism aspect of it. I will admit some games that are optionally co-op can be much more fun than the single player experience (Rayman Origins/Legends and Guacamelee, etc), but for the most part a game needs to have a single player aspect before I devote any money to it

Re: Poll: Has The Latest Trailer Convinced You To Buy Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Pip_Pipston

I think I'm through with mainline Pokemon games. My first was LeafGreen and I've played almost every game since. The last one I got was Sword, but I'll get Legends: Arceus in the future.

Sword left a bitter taste in my mouth. I loved the new pokemon designs and how they added more personality to the gym leaders, but the pacing was awful. Hop stopping you every three steps to spout tutorial tips and/or challenge you to ANOTHER battle really grated on me. He redeemed himself a bit at the end, but that didn't excuse how much of a drag he made the first part of the game.

Then there was the plot. Aside from the fact that Rose was afraid of an energy crisis that was only going to happen CENTURIES later, I then learned that in the DLC, where you meet his brother Peony, there exists Regileki, the electric Regi that could power all of Galar, SOLVING THE ENERGY CRISIS. So instead of messing with an apocalypse-causing dragon, all Rose had to do was talk to his brother to discover an easier and safer solution.

Also, I don't think I can ever go back to a game that I can't complete on my own. I get that in the past two different versions incentivized trading, but I think we're beyond the point of needing two full priced titles for essentially the exact same game. Another reason I want to play Arceus, since that won't be an issue.

I know now that I'm not the intended audience anymore. It's saddening, but I understand.

Re: Random: Jealous Husband Sells Wife's Harvest Moon Collection To Stop Her "Marrying Virtual Men"

Pip_Pipston

Unrelated but funny story: while I was playing Magical Melody a long time ago, one of the romantic events rolled around and I promised the Doctor I'd go with him. But then I was an idiot and exhausted myself that day, unintentionally skipping the event and waking up with the Doctor by my bedside telling me I need to take better care of myself. Though in my head cannon, it was more along the lines of "You could've just said no..." I felt so bad I restarted the game so as to not be an idiot and overwork myself

Re: Review: Rune Factory 5 - A Dependable Old Farmhand That Could Use A Spruce Up

Pip_Pipston

I wish I could get over the visuals, but I just can't. The last I played was RF4 and every one before it (except for Tides of Destiny), but I don't have much hope for the series anymore. There have been some rough spots in most of the games in the series (you couldn't even make almost any dungeon progress in RF2 until you married and had a kid), but I thought RF3 and RF4 were great games. The pseudo top down look allowed for the environment to look good despite not being in 3D or with a 3D camera. I want to love it, I really do, but unless there's a patch or I hear about some big plot twist or feature that changes my mind, I won't be picking this up.

Re: Tetris 99 Is Hosting A Pokémon Legends: Arceus Crossover Event Later This Month

Pip_Pipston

@Fizza Perhaps they meant that there is no filtration or options to play with others with similar skill levels? I know when I've played some of the events that I had very inconsistent games. Now I'm nowhere near good at the game, but there are some times where I make the top 20, and others where I get completely demolished before breaking #80. I know there's an option to target players who are struggling (the "wins" option), but more than one player targetting the same persom can make it feel pretty predatory to me T_T

Re: Random: Twitch Streamer Encounters Double Shiny In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Starter Battle

Pip_Pipston

I think the Let's Go games made finding a shiny the most exciting out of all the games, especially if you weren't even looking for one specifically. I remember I was trying to find Dratini/Dragonair near the Abandonned Factory where Zapdos is, when suddenly, in the tall grass spawned a shiny Nidorina! It took a second for my brain to even register it like "wait are they supposed to be that color? A glitch?" Then it started sparkling. I caught it after dodging the other spawned pokemon. I love her.

TL;DR- They should've kept shinies visible in the overworld. Another reason I think SWSD is BS

Re: EarthBound-Style Horror RPG OMORI Is Finally Coming To Switch After Skipping The 3DS

Pip_Pipston

Oh my god it's actually happening. I didn't think I'd see this get put onto the Switch, but here we are. This game has gripped me so hard. At first I was along for the neat gameplay and the cute but interesting story. Then kept playing to find out wtf was going on. I have never seen a story executed so well. Replaying the game makes you see just how interconnected everything is and makes it all that more impactful.

It's saddening to see that the Kickstarter issues still haven't been resolved, but I'll double dip just to support the creator. The game, and especially the last fight, is a masterpiece.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Says He Wants To Make An Okami Sequel "Someday"

Pip_Pipston

I'm surprised to see how many people have picked up Okami but not actually beaten it (I get like that for some games). I first played it on the Wii with the terrible motion controls (I was never able to use the Mirror teleport ability amongst other things). I got it again on the PS4 and platinum'd it. I also completed Okamiden but it didn't grab me nearly as much and felt much more constrained/linear.

One thing I do agree with other commenters is that the second half of Okami feels...disjointed? Everything that happens around Shinshu Field, the first open are, feels like it's all connected. The Canine Warriors connected Kusa Village, which was much farther away, to previous locations/characters. Sei'an City was neat but it's where things seemed to drift apart. Then suddenly we're in a snowy landscape out of nowhere

I would love a proper Okami sequel. I remember hoping that we would get further info on the Celestials and the technology they had (looking at Waka's HQ and how literally out of place it is). I adored Okami and didn't even mind the repeating bosses. I had just wished that there were more varieties of them (ex: Spider Queen and Bandit Spider). I know it's not likely, but another Okami would probably be a day 1 buy for me.

Re: Exp. Share Supposedly Can't Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

Pip_Pipston

The TM bit is the final nail in the coffin for me. As someone who would almost never use a TM before they were unlimited (what if I teach it to the wrong pokemon? What if it'll learn a better move later along the line? What if I accidentally overwrite the move?!?), making them unlimited was a great ease of mind. I think I've given up on Pokemon games. I'll play MH: Stories 2 instead

Re: Review: Monster Harvest - Poor Execution Of A Promising 'Stardew Valley X Pokémon' Premise

Pip_Pipston

@Meteoroid I know others have replied with great points, but I also believe that it became so beloved because of the large gap between console/non-mobile SoS/HM games. I enjoyed SoS, but I usually prefer to play on the TV.
Plus the usual gripes I'd have with other farm sim games (nothing to do but wait for crops to grow, having minimal field size at the beginning, ect) were almost nonexistent. I especially loved the effort put into the fishing and mining aspects. And while the other games had events and festivals, Stardew made each one feel unique and not just the seasonal contest/relationship event.
I made this a lot longer than I thought I would...
TL;DR- I can tell the developer poured his heart and soul into making this game. He was able to breathe some fresh air into a series that had long been stagnant. I still believe it's the best modern farming sim to date.
