This one I understand. Modding a Switch to play recent games for free should be illegal and they have every right to sue. 3DS or WiiU in their current states, not so much.
It would be great if they focused on cases like this, that cause actual harm to developers and publishers.
It would be weird to have a direct without a console announcement at this point. Nobody can pretend like it doesn’t exist anymore.
As for Switch games, the only thing I want is a Xenoblade X remaster that fixes some of its issues. I really, really want to play that game without a corny rapper in every battle. Or that woman in the home base who sounds like she’s had too much caffeine and has to use the restroom.
@the_beaver You’re right that at least it’s not a 10 like TotK. I didn’t need to play the game to understand that they took a regular Zelda game but every time you’d otherwise press a button to swing your sword, the flow has to be interrupted. I understand that it’s good, but I don’t understand all this blind adoration every time a 1st party Nintendo game comes out. As if everything they touch is somehow perfect, when it clearly isn’t.
So remind me again how this game deserved a 9/10 with frame rate issues and THIS travesty??
This is the first thing I was afraid of when I heard about the concept and it’s really inexcusable for me. I watched a friend play 15 minutes and it was already driving me crazy. Not playing 20+ hours of this flow killing mechanic. Where is the fun in this?
How to fix this? Stop making Zelda games revolve around gimmicks!!
I get it now. Someone had an idea for a Game Boy style pixelated building. But the architects had to turn those ideas into technical plans for a contractor to turn into a functioning building, and something got lost along the way.
Real translation: Victims of indoctrination panic when they see a human body because generation after generation has been taught to feel guilty about their bodily functions.
The problem is that we let these people win all the time.
I couldn’t care less about Mario and the Rabbids in those games, but the gameplay got me into strategy RPG’s where a lot had failed before. So I’m definitely hoping some of those strategic elements will still be in there somewhere.
Imagine how the internet would explode if SE announced Final Fantasy XVII directed by him and with some songs by Uematsu. Turn based battles of course.
They put ‘Studio Ghibli inspired’ in their own trailer?? They need to put some more effort into crafting the environments if they’re going to make that claim 😳
But.. silent Link also has dialogue options sometimes. This proves that the ‘blank slate’ thing is just a marketing story and it only has one real reason: saving money on voice acting. They can make the same amount of money by paying less people. That would be the Nintendo thing to do.
It would be great to see Zelda games experiment with branching storylines and multiple endings. Some things could be procedurally generated, according to the specific path you choose to take. If they’re looking for a new direction after the BotW universe, this might be a way. AI generated, but closely following predetermined (humanly written) plot points and adjusting them to the situation. Similar to how you could ‘do it your way’ with a handful of special powers in BotW/TotK, stories could adapt to your actions in an organic way.
Also: No Hyrule for a while. I want another island setting. Why haven’t we seen an entire game set on a single huge sky island?
And yes, sci-fi and a speaking Link. Time to stop using that lazy ‘blank slate’ excuse that has always really been a budget and storage space choice.
I’d like to see them move on to 3D games. They could still base it on a grid system. It worked fine for the 3D environments in Trials of Mana.
With a choice between turn based, strategic, or action RPG’s. There’s many conventions in those games that are already copy/paste.
The combat of Ys: VIII, Hyrule Warriors, and the Mana games isn’t all that different, with a few tweaks. It should be possible to make a user friendly framework around that as well.
I don’t even know why this needed a review, it’s not like anyone except privileged people will be able to buy this. They’re not asking this price because plastic is expensive. But because they know they can. The least you could have done is mentioned this ridiculous price as a con.
@CriticalGames I’d honestly consider disregarding the first game’s title and renaming this so it seems more than just a gimmick. It looks like a fully fleshed out world and the title doesn’t suggest that.
Can’t you see this as a spin-off? Like a Persona to your Megami Tensei?
The first game isn’t available on Switch, so you don’t get much brand recognition from that group anyway.
Regardless of the name, I’ll be playing this though
Second Zelda game in a row that I haven’t been looking forward to.
This feels so much like it was conceived as content for a specific target audience, and it’s not me.
It’s like they took Zelda games and deleted everything that made them exciting.
@Max_the_German No, they’re using all of this to promote the game. It’s not supposed to have spoilers. Many people go into these, expecting promo material. Not the full game and no locations left to discover.
A.I. In voice acting should only be used to enhance real actor’s abilities, like giving them perfect foreign accents etc. Cillian Murphy’s Dutch in Oppenheimer could certainly have used some A.I..
Probably going to be banished to the underworld for this, but I never liked the guy. He’s the first one at Nintendo who started addressing us as ‘consumers’ all the time, instead of ‘players’.

Japan has that warm and cosy vibe. But it’s still a party.

Oh yes, Nintendo, give me more reasons to boycott your next console.

Re: Feature: "I’m Going To Be A Grandfather Very Soon" - Is Neo Dimension Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Final Fantasian?
@garfreek It just needs a few tweaks but it’s one of my all time favourite jrpg’s. The story is just really good.

@Bonggon5 “limited frame of reference”

@garfreek But Lost Odyssey is one of my favourite Final Fantasy games!

Thanks for this : )

The space after ‘spoilers’ makes the text stand out even more and it’s so short that you automatically read it at a glance.
