Re: The 'Masuda Method' Lives On in Pokémon Sun and Moon

Piersen

@Yorumi Some people do care about aesthetics. I wanted to put Serperior into my team and like Serperior's shiny colors so decided to breed one. Only one I got in acceptable time of me watching Youtube while riding back and forth got me one with Overgrow instead of Contrary. Meanwhile, I have 3 completely legit shiny Roserades, because RNG. I'd much rather spend that time building/equipping a daycare and playing minigames with my Pokemon to get the few shinies I actually want.

Re: The 'Masuda Method' Lives On in Pokémon Sun and Moon

Piersen

How about a method of reliably getting shinies fast, if you know what you're doing? Like buying food for Pokemon and equipment for the Daycare that drastically rise the chances. Also, hatch eggs en masse with minigames. Riding a bike endlessly on a route is not my image of fun.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Pokémon Sun and Moon: Special Demo Version?

Piersen

It's a nice little tease, although I'm not sure if I would buy my first Pokemon game based on it, if I were a first time player.

I don't mind the leaks personally. When I first played Red, I too already more or less knew all the monsters, because of all the kids at school trading Pokemon cards and stickers + seeing the anime first.

Re: Square Enix Teases Bravely Default News As Original Game Turns Four

Piersen

I'd like to see a third game, just hoping they can make this a good franchise overall. I liked Second, but not as much as Default. Default had that fairy tale feeling for me. The "evil one" was an impactful and threatening villain, I personally liked Revo's music in Default more. Meanwhile, Second felt kinda like a direct to video Disney sequel. Also some of the puns almost caused me physical pain (madam Goldiga, Gho Ghettar, Swetti Tracksute...) :/

Re: Random: Mario Is Younger Than His Mighty Moustache Suggests

Piersen

He's still a cartoon character so the age doesn't change much.

It's a tiny miracle that Mario's design does not come across more weird or creepy. A blue collar mustached adult man drawn as a cute cartoon character is not exactly the first idea that comes to your mind if you were creating a kid-friendly mascot today. Cool how they rolled with the design originating from the technical limitations of the NES and can make it work even today.

Re: 2DS Relaunch Makes Decent Chart Debut in Japan as Persona 5 and PS4 Run Riot

Piersen

@Royalblues The silent protagonist fits Persona well because it's a game about forming bonds between the characters and you, the player. The stoic expression doesn't set anything in stone, the protagonist in both 3 and 4 has a plenty of silly dialogue choices. If anything, I'd welcome some slight customization. A protagonist like, let's say Shulk, would ruin it in my opinion.

Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017

Piersen

@AlexSora89 Yeah well, I was mostly talking about online, so it isn't immediately full of Scizor and Talonflame. It does kinda suck for taking away that option in single-player playthrough, for those who would want it that way right away. I don't mind it that much, since I want my first playthrough of Moon to be with the Pokemon available in the game as Gamefreak designed it (exploring the world as when I first played Red). Maybe sometime later I'll try it again with a pre-designed team (I did that in X with Delphox, Skarmory, Flygon, Togekiss, Galvantula and Mienshao)

Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017

Piersen

Good. This way we can have a fresh start and an authentic experience of everyone only using Pokemon native to Alola online for a few months.

I'm curious whether you will be able to use Pokemon caught in previous games on battle spot/competitions later. Not like XY, which required all the Pokemon to have that little blue pentagon on them. Otherwise, that would mean only the Kalos forms being usable.

Re: EA Had Plans To Create Its Own Pokémon Competitor

Piersen

@AlexSora89 I didn't ever have a Nintendo home console and none of my friends did either, so I only knew Crash racing games when I was a kid. The last one I played and enjoyed was Crash Tag Team Racing, if I remember correctly

Not sure how many people used to buy consoles because of these racing games, so either way, I wouldn't call them "killer" of each other, just similar titles.

Re: EA Had Plans To Create Its Own Pokémon Competitor

Piersen

@AlexSora89 You're right. We don't have to even have to stray too far from Pokemon. Many people like Yokai Watch, which is also a mon game aimed at kids. But... I can see how that style of game naturally fits the Level 5 style. There are enough differences from Pokemon. They also had some monster battling elements in Ni no Kuni and that worked well. Similarly, the Crash characters also lend themselves well to a crazy cart racing game.

I just think you can make a better game by doing your own thing and just looking at similar things for inspiration, instead of cynically trying to copy them because of what's popular and is currently making money. I don't think Crash Team Racing was supposed to be a "Mario Kart killer".

Re: Video: Check Out the Launch Trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

Piersen

@Mr_Zurkon @yannah21

Well, I'd recommend playing SMT4 before SMT4A, since Apocalypse is more of a direct sequel, seems to continue the story immediately after the events of 4 and previous characters remain as major players in the story. Plus, it's also on the 3DS.

Other than that, as someone who has yet to play Nocturne, I can say you don't need to play the games before it to understand anything.

Re: Video: Check Out the Launch Trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

Piersen

@MrSeitaro Dunno man, why would it be "forced"?

In SMT4, Walter and Jonathan were basically humanoid personifications of the Law and Chaos paths. I had major difficulty seeing them as actual characters, especially when compared to some other games from the franchise like Devil Survivor, not even mentioning Persona. From the promotional materials that I've seen so far, the characters in this one could be acting like actual characters, so at least the story should be more enjoyable.

The game should also be a bit less dreary, since it takes place after the events of the SMT4 Neutral path. The demons slaughtering people should now at least be taking place in daylight and in more color Each time I turned off SMT4, I felt like climbing out of a cellar.

Also, they improved the overworld.

Re: Pokémon GO Has Lost 79 Percent of its Paying Population

Piersen

Well yes, this is a natural phenomenon of what happens when something is released with enough mass exposure. There is an initial spike of users which then just as quickly dies down, but provided they provide a good service, the numbers can then keep steadily rising again, this time with more loyal user base.

(If anyone knows how this phenomenon is called, please remind me )

Re: Different Time Periods, New Pokémon and Snap-style Mode Confirmed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Piersen

I like the new Raticate, but since it's not an evolution or a mega evolution, it will probably be about as useful in multiplayer as a regular Raticate, which is not very much. As someone who would like for all Pokemon to be equally usable online against other players, this saddens me.

Also, Snap features in main games, yay.

The Type: Null thing reminds me of how I nickname my Reuniclus, Code:LILITH Sounds like a result of some experiment.

Time to wait for what the reviews have to say about Spirit of Justice and to dodge spoilers everywhere. Last time I accidentally got the Dual Destinies final villain spoiled for me, not wanna let that happen again.
