The Ace Attorney series may now be a download-only franchise in the West, but at the very least recent entries have still been localised. The rather intriguing The Great Ace Attorney (called Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken in Japan) is a recent exception, however, having stayed in Japan to date. A sequel was even announced for Japan last month, but we're still hoping for the original.
It's not hard to see why it's on some wishlists; it's set in Victorian England, and features an ancestor of Phoenix Wright who teams up with Sherlock Holmes. That is a setting that begs for localisation, though a little over a year ago Capcom France seemed to suggest it wouldn't happen.
Now, Capcom UK has either done a fun teaser or trolled eager followers of its social media account. The focus is on a tweet for a competition that happens to use music from The Great Ace Attorney. When quizzed on it the host of the video (the Capcom UK Monster Hunter Community Manager) simply says "Busted!"

We want to believe that this is a tease, but we're genuinely unsure. We suggest a policy of having hope that it's a pointer to an upcoming announcement, but don't invest too much emotion into it; it could just be a community manager being playful.
There's little doubt that plenty replying to the tweet hope it's a teaser; we shall wait and see.

they did say some time ago that there will be some good news for western AA fans at the end of the year...
Well I really hope they localize this, it looks really good and because it's set in the past they can do a lot of stuff that would not mess with the other games because it would have happened in the past. Also as far as I know there is little progress on a fan translation, although the other unlocalized game prosecutors path was fan translated

That doesn't look to me like they're hinting at a western release... the employee just said busted as in "you figured out I was using music from that game".
Maybe it doesn't prove much, but I hope many gaming sites will make a similar article, you know, just for show Capcom how many of us wants The Great Ace Attorney localized.
Sure, not that this strategy proved to work in the past, but maybe this time it will be different... or at least one can dream so, right? ^_^;

Seriously though, the 4th case of Spirit of Justice had me laughing hard. Is it me or does each installment try to deny the obvious Japanese setting harder and harder?

I would like for this to be localized, but in the same light I'm not getting my hopes up.

Ace attorney investigations 2 got a great fan translation that makes it playable in English. I don't understand Capcom... The game will make money, maybe not buckets and buckets of it, but it will still turn a profit and keep bringing in more and more fans...

With the NX looming, it might start to get a little too late for a release, much like AAI 2 was. I would hope for an NX release/port, but we've been hoping for a second trilogy collection including AAI 2 for years now....
@Piersen I mean, they seem to be trying to retcon it slowly, as Maya now like burgers AND ramen, and they claim Mystic Ami took spirit channeling to Japan and THEN to America. What are they supposed to do, have the characters suddenly be like, "wait a minute, we've been in Japan this whole time?"
@Piersen That was possibly the worst idea the localisation team (or their superiors?) ever had, but now we are stuck with Not-Japan.

@Bobb the great ace attorney takes place in london, they could just say that phoenix wright's ancestor is japanese. Even if he goes back to japan in the end, they could say Phoenix wright's mother or grandmother married an american and moved to the usa. A lot of people are descendants of immigrants (myself including) I think it's really stupid to say ‘we can't translate the game because of the setting’

I didn't say this game couldn't be localised for whatever reason, all I did say was that it was a bad idea to bring the games (the core series) to the west denying the fact it takes place in japan

I think there was something similar with the Miles Edgeworth 2 game some years ago. It had something to do with a tweet to see if people wanted the game, but nothing came out of it obviously. I still want that game more than anything.

This is the internet and so many things get easily and unnecessarily misunderstood so if it's not part of a true reveal, the CAPCOM UK staff member (didn't know there was a CAPCOM UK...) should issue an apology for getting peoples' hopes up. It's best to tell yourself it's not gonna happen. That way, when it does happen, you'll be pleasantly surprised and if it doesn't, then you've already accepted a loss and moved on. We should look at it as a positive that the tweet, at the very least, gained attention and a little buzz for the game.
@shonenjump86 Miles Edgeworth 2 is thankfully available albeit unofficially. Any form is better than no form, right? In terms of fan translations, you could do a lot worse.
@Bobb totally agree with you, I was thinking about capcom localization, and how stupid it is to deny that phoenix is japanese. But may be they don't localise it because it will cost to much to pay for the right to use sherlock holmes in all the countries like that article suggested a few months ago
