Does the name Neymar Jr. mean anything to you? If it does, then don't be shocked or surprised – the Brazilian is only one of the most famous kickmen on the face of the planet right now. ESPN called him the world's fourth-most famous athlete in 2016, and a year later, he was included in Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
In fact, it's perhaps less likely that you haven't heard of the Paris Saint-Germain striker – but even if that is indeed the case, then prepare to get an education, because Epic Games is using Fortnite to expand Neymar's influence even further by adding him as a character skin. Why? Your guess is as good as ours at this stage, if we're honest.
Still, Neymar Jr. does at least fit neatly into the 'football kit' theme which has been part of Fortnite for a while now, although (and we could be wrong about this) his ability to transform into a muscular robot cat does seem to be in direct contravention of FIFA and UEFA rules.
We're still not sure what all of this means, but we can tell you that Neymar Jr. is free to anyone who has the current season's Battle Pass. You'll also be able to take part in special Neymar Jr. 'Quests', which will become available on April 27th – a date which also marks the arrival of Fortnite v16.30.

Never heard of the guy, props to his fans though.
One of his dance moves will be him theatrically diving to the floor with an exaggerated expression before rolling around an unnecessarily large area of the pitch, acting like he's been shot.
Another world famous footballer that was trainer in the ajax Netherlands youth training program.
The main reason ajax is super rich is because they keep training youth that go onto the best clubs in the world.
Is Fortnite still popular?
I can see him breaking away to form a European Fortnite Super League.
So one of those over-payed experts on kicking a ball is getting his little and undoubtedly expensive ego trip in Fornite? Another reason to stay away from that game.
I've only heard of him on occasion from when I saw or heard other people around me watch or talk about football. I'm not really that big into the sport myself but putting him into Fortnite is really random. Like, Shrek in Smash Bros random. And you either love it or hate it.
Or you just don't care because you don't play Fortnite.
@darkswabber That's not true at all, he was a player in Santos F.C. during his childood and teenage years. The same club as Pele.
Call me when Lewandowski is in. Actually, don't. It still wouldn't be enough to get me to play Fortnite.
@Felipevelloso welp google was a liar in that case, RIP.
@GrailUK
Are questions like this still relevant?
Never been a Neymar fan. Or Messi. Or Ronaldo. Or any of the so-called ‘best players’ to be honest. I’ll take someone like Efe Ambrose any day.
@darkswabber Ajax aren't super rich, maybe richer than other Dutch clubs but not in the grand scheme of things. Is a pity mind you, they are an incredibly historic club and former home of one of the best of all time in Cruyff.
He’s not even PSG’s best striker
@Kochambra One cannot make an argument for footballers being overpaid. Sports are an entertainment industry and every pound, euro or dollar spent on it comes entirely from the hands of private citizens or investors. There is no state ownership nor taxes spent on the wages of top-flight footballers. As a private citizen you can 100% choose not to contribute any of your money to the wages of entertainers.
As entertainers their wages are on par with actors. Keanu Reeves earned around $250m for the Matrix trilogy and nobody batted an eyelid. Paul McCartney made over £1Bn as a musician. How is that any different?
I’m not the biggest fan of the game but I can watch a match and find it entertaining. I can also see the good the sport does the world over outweighs the bad side of it.
He is somewhat controversial here in Brazil. Many like what he do inside the field, many don't.
Now whay he does outside the field is not controversial at all: everyone dislikes, it is unanimous.
Neymar Jr AKA Fall-Fall, an overpayed footballer. Wonder if his character in the game will trip as soon as an oponent is sighted.
Never heard of him. Only players I think I could name are Messai, Ronaldo and Beckham
Ah Neymar, he'll go down when the bullets miss and shoot past him.
I just saw where the American Football player Justin Jefferson will have his touchdown celebration dance featured in the game too.
@Zach777 Yeah, it's an honest question you probably read as being snarky coz the internet. I don't play it so I wouldn't know. But it was huge at one point. Just wondering if it's still that popular.
@GrailUK
In that case, yes it is still pretty popular.
I'm a gross, sweaty nerd whose sole hobby is video games and who never leaves the house. Of course I've never heard of this dude.
@RadioHedgeFund "One cannot make an argument for footballers being overpaid"
Oh, one definitely can. Haven't you heard that the biggest European clubs tried to form their own "super league" because those poor, poor presidents are barely managing to make ends meet? Those ball jugglers are getting payed more money than they are able to generate. The very definition of over-payed.
@RadioHedgeFund so are you suggesting that no worker in the private sector can be overpaid? I think when most people say someone's overpaid they mean that this person earns an astronomical wage that they feel cannot really be justified. Justified not in an economic sense but in an ethical sense. And I think most people pretending that about footballers would say the same thing about actors. People are just a little more dismissive of footballers as the industry is continually in the news for being very corrupt and unethical (see for example the hundreds of deaths in qatar)
@Ensemen I’m saying that nobody in entertainment can be overpaid because all the money that goes into that industry is directly from the fans. If the followers of a football club thought the players did not deserve their wages they would not buy tickets, TV rights or merchandising. Individual players can be overrated and not worth the wages the club applies for them, but this does not apply across the board as a flat judgement.
Nobody ever thought their favourite musician was overpayed for the music they might enjoy although they might argue an individual album is not worth the money. This is not equal to that. Footballers have bad games. Actors make bad films. Your favourite band have a few duff tracks you dislike. Heck, your favourite games developer doesn’t pump out constant AAA titles. Some are a bit rubbish. But they at least deserve compensation for their work.
Never heard of this guy and I won't use the skin lol. But I always think it's super funny when they add real life people as Fortnite skins; let's get Neymar Jr. in a gunfight with Travis Scott.
Oh how blessed are thee non-Brazilians, blissfully unaware of Menino Ney's many, many problematic behaviours, prejudices, tax evasions and ***** declarations.
I'm also jealous of how a lot of straight men can simply not like football overseas. Not liking football is basically the equivalent of coming out in Brazil (and not even then we're safe: there are gay football clubs, none of them official, but still).
@RadioHedgeFund I get what you are saying but i think you could apply that to every industry and therefore argue that no person could be overpaid. I mean the profit amazon does is also from sales and every dollar (don't quote me on that) they make is directly from customers (fans are customers too) so would you also argue that jeff bezos is not overpaid? My question is in what case is then someon overpaid by your rules?
I never said the artists should'nt be compensated for their work of course they should. The question is should someone be compensated with a million dollars or 100 million dollars, that's what people argue when they are talking about overpayment. And I can't speak for everyone but i do think that a lot of bands and musicians are "overpaid". I just can't justify in my mind that some person earns a thousand times more than an average worker beacause noone can work a thousand times harder than an average worker.
Maybe one additional aspect is the distribution within an industry. If managers in the UEFA would make a hundred times more than a professional player I think you would also argue that they are overpaid. And vice versa I am sure that there are people in the football industry that are severly underpaid (underpaid in the sense that they can't survive with that money) which one could make up for by paying professional players and managers less.
And no I am not arguing that it does economically not make sense, these wages are there for a reason (not always of course). I am merely saying that I think it's hard for me to justify ethically a person making that much more money than others.
@RadioHedgeFund if the followers of a football club thought the players didn't deserve the wages they would still buy tickets because football is about much more than the players on the pitch. People love their clubs and will go to games even when they hate the owners, the players and aren't even being entertained by what is happening on the pitch. Football is completely different to the film and music industry. To add to that, most of the revenue clubs generate in the top leagues is from TV rights which adds a whole new level to it and means people are paying for games and clubs they don't even want to see. It's much more complicated than "if they get paid it, it must be worth it".
Some odd replies above. I suppose in-keeping with this odd inclusion in Fortnite. Great footballer that never really attained quite the standing of previous Brazilian football legends, but he often goes down easily "like he's been shot". So maybe not so odd an inclusion.
@WillQuan If anything Football has more in common with the games industry. That tribal loyalty to a platform to a fault. That willingness to spend ridiculous amounts of money on must have items like an extra box. The arguments amongst fans when a formula feels stale and you want things shaken up.
There are cliches about gaming nerds and sporting nerds but in truth they are 2 sides of the same coin.
Would for example the early adopters argue the PS5 was overpriced?
