Without really big technological leaps, it'd hard to get excited about these anymore. I'm playing FC24 a bit now and then, and its a good game, but I got it once it was heavily discounted, FC25 is heavily discounted now, and I'll probably get this on switch 2 when I get one, but probably when the next one after this is here or arriving soon and this one is heavily discounted.
@Sambuc the only sport you dislike? So you're well into polo, croquet, synchronised swimming, cross country skiing, curling, taekwondo, snooker, darts, cricket, kabaddi, pursuit cycling, horse racing, F1, crown Green bowling etc etc???
Must take some effort to stay across all that. I respect the effort.
Just to check, we're definitely not just thinking of the two biggest American sports as being ALL sports are we? No? Cool π
@splinters I'm 44, and buzzing for the news on here every day just now. The magic still gets me now. When Nintendo gets it right, nothing can touch it for me.
@nessisonett I vaguely remember someone doing a joke years ago, along the lines of....
"I've been playing a new video game recently, it's really good, you go round the city smashing stuff up, stealing cars, getting in fights, throwing women about, ah man it's great, I can't remember the name of it though, ehhhhhh....."
Guy shouts from crowd "Grand Theft Auto"!!!
"Nah its not that one mate... ah yes! Tiger Woods Golf!!!"
I'm glad it's not Fifa anymore and they get nothing from this now. EA was kind of the first time I've seen anyone challenge Fifa, stick to their guns, and they won and came out the better for it, so they earned some respect back for that. All the clubs are still in it officially licensed, because who wants to miss out on this level of free advertising? I don't think it's a coincidence that shortly after the split, Fifa charged on with its plans for the expanded 32 team club world cup, which is descending into farce already with the Club Leon fiasco.
I no longer have any big enthusiasm for these games, which is a shame, because I'm obsessed with football away from here. I only ever get one console each generation, and it's nearly always a Nintendo because I love Mario, but a good football game is a good bonus. I'll get an FC game, but unless it gets a 10/10 it probably won't be the first one.
The gamecube was the only system i ever had immediately on launch day. I got Super Monkey Ball and Rogue Squadron with it, and I was so excited and loved those games and that system so much. I'm definitely gonna get the Gamecube controller for Switch 2.
My kid wants to see this. So I'll be watching it too sometime soon. She does play Minecraft, but she isn't mega excited, she's more about the new Unicorn Academy. I'm not expecting to be dazzled.
I wanna go to a concert and whip out one of those old Victorian cameras where you had to put your head under a little curtain and it makes a big "DOOF" sound as it flashes.
@Momozinho been a while, here but just to update I did take your recommendation and get binding of isaac and got obsessed with it. I've played it nearly every day for 2 years now. It's easily my favourite game of all time. So cheers for that partner π
Jump King. I laugh at every big fall and it's deliberately meant to be frustrating, so kudos for that. But man it sucks every time you get a few screens up into a new area, then bodge it all with a fractionally misjudged jump.
@FishyS I want to play dragon Quest Treasures with the kid, but she's addicted to Minecraft just now and nothing else matters haha. I might just sneaky start it myself
Dang. I bought day one but haven't started it yet. I'll wait for the patch before starting, I have plenty more to keep me busy in the meantime anyway.
And American friends, call it soccer all you like, it won't change the reality for the other 95% of the world. It's cringe as well how American commentators have to shoehorn in terms from other sports to make it more palatable for domestic audiences. Dee-fence, offence, transition phase, etc, and useless stats nobody cares about. Like winback time average(?!?!?)... some teams know the opposition is more skillful than them and decide to play on the break. Jose Mourinho's teams would always have terrible stats on win back average, yet he's always been wildly successful.
The Binding of Isaac for me. Always fancied it, and I've played it nearly every day since getting it in February or March. Working my way through the challenges now.
The kid got Dragon Quest Treasures and Captain Toad. She loved the Captain Toad demo and was super excited when she seen the Treasures trailer, so she's keen to get cracking on those. Hopefully it'll keep her busy later when the football is on haha. She's also got Yoshi's Crafted World coming when she sees her Scottish gran in the Midlands. I picked myself up Sports Story, instant buy, I loved Golf Story, one of the first switch games I picked up when I first got it. Not started it yet, but it'll be a good ride I'm sure.
I've got this pre ordered for the kids Christmas. She was very excited when she seen the trailer. Sounds perfect for her. She gets a bit stressed with more intense games.
@Guitar_bard you know, that's what it's all about eh? Getting someone right on your wavelength that gets it. I play bluegrass banjo, traditional 5 string, and harmonica too. I wanna get a tenor banjo too, which is popular in Irish folk. I've cooled it recently, but damm I've spent some insane money on music. I've been to festivals all over the world too, I've got insane memories, been to some incredible parties, I regret nothing! π
@Guitar_bard my man! π I knew someone else here would be bang on my wavelength there π
I'll keep it brief, I have tonnes of obscure hip hop records, loads of signed stuff from the hundreds of gigs I've been to, photos with nearly all of my favourite rappers, people like Guilty Simpson, Oddisee, Jeru The Damaja, Brother Ali, Percee P... I love funk and soul too, I'm a James Brown fanatic, got almost everything he ever did. My absolute favourite thing I own though is a beautiful 40th anniversary edition of Superfly by Curtis Mayfield, it folds out with previously unseen artwork from the film, a whole album of session work from the recordings, notes from sound engineers, all top end nerd goodies. I just pull it out and look at it lovingly for 10 minutes sometimes. I don't know what it cost, my missus got me it for a present. That's probably what swung it for her, made me go "you're alright you are, might hang onto you" π₯°π
A cool older neighbour let me have his atari 2600 when he upgraded. It had about 20 games, I loved Frogger, so it was probably that. This was around 85.

@Mynameishello omg wow you're so amazing and fascinating and we're all so glad you shared all of that. We'd all love to hear more about how awesome you are. It isn't tedious at all.
I've really not played anything for a whole week, the Ukraine crisis has had my undivided attention. I could do with a break from that, I'm going to the beach with a few pals this afternoon. I did buy Hollow Knight yesterday, fancied it for ages and it's half price, so boom. I got Tales Of Vesperia as well and haven't started that. One of those next.
When PES originally came along and played better than fifa of the time, it didn't take long for a lot of us to switch, despite them not being officially licensed to more than a handful of clubs. I wouldn't over estimate fifa's brand power, or anyone's true loyalty to it. We only go to them now for lack of a superior competitor.
I had a little blast on FIFA 20 last night and enjoyed it, but I'm gone in a heartbeat if something better comes along.
@StefanN I respect your ethics there, and you're entirely right. I don't like we've given Qatar the World Cup at all, the voting was rigged and bought, sold by officials since convicted of corruption, there's also their appalling human rights record, draconian laws regarding everything, not to mention the numerous Asian slaves used to build the stadiums who have died to barely a shrug of the shoulders from FIFA, etc etc... But then again, there's potentially a couple of million dollars to be made, so, you know.....ehhhhhhh, what you gonna do??? π€·
@TMG44 yes I immediately clocked it was the Germany squad. The Joachim LΓΆw figure isn't very realistic though, he is neither scratching his knackers nor sniffing his fingers.
