@rayjt9 Thanks for the response. Whenever people quote mobile prices to complain about Switch pricing I ask "Have you ever considered that console pricing is fair and that mobile games are underpriced?" and have never gotten any response other than dismissal. Perhaps you'll have more luck.
@Cobalt Your argument that a phone provides better controls than a controller is silly. Your claim that I must be some sort of PR agent here to trick people into spending higher prices is insane. I mean that literally. You are inventing a conspiracy to explain what you perceive to be happening. That is textbook paranoia. I'll do my part and no longer trigger it.
@Cobalt I certainly hope it never ends. There are some utterly fantastic games on mobile that are there simply because of the economics of developing whose proper home is console. When they arrive they should be celebrated, not denigrated because of their origin.
@Razer When I said try again, I was referring to your claim that I'd laud God of War were it on Switch. That should have been clear.
I like this last response, though. I've never said anything about Mario (you can go through those comments you linked); that you're imagining I have means I've struck a nerve.
Bought Code of Princess physically. May get Iconoclasts, but probably not, since my backlog is already unmanageable and Flipping Death and State of Mind will be entering it soon.
@Heavyarms55 First of all, that's not what "beg the question" means. More to the point, and less pedantically, how is it a mistake for Nintendo to allow publishers to offer free-to-play which might actually be free? I assure you that once the service begins a portion of the IAPs will serve in lieu of the subscription fee, so that Nintendo will get paid either way, which, by the way, is a perfectly reasonable concept, remuneration for services rendered. It's just a different business model.
@deafswin37 I don't know how so. Heavyarms was obviously being ironic, mocking Nintendoomers, yet you clearly missed that, else you wouldn't have told him to get a life or that he hates Nintendo. How you missed it, I don't know.
@zool I get all of that (assuming I've correctly interpreted what the typos were intended to be), but it doesn't contradict my point, which is that between circumstance-- you bought a console that ended up flopping--and choice--limiting yourself to a single console and refusing an entire method of distribution--you are part of a vanishingly small demographic that no publisher in their right mind would target. Sales figures prove that people want Wii U ports on Switch, and it's obvious, to me at least, that they outnumber the people who don't want those ports, which means porting them is the only sound business decision. Catering to you would not, and while it is understandable that the situation doesn't suit you, it is ridiculous to complain that a corporation behaves like a corporation.
@zool You're a Wii U owner who doesn't have a second console and only buys physically? That description applies to about 37 people, hardly a market that's profitable in catering to. You might want to lower your expectations.
@Syrek24 Thanks for taking the time to make points that some of us just don't have the energy to do anymore. The library is thin only if you limit your count of first party games to non-ports and third party games to Western AAA games.
A good game is a good game. It's such a simple concept.
@Agramonte Care to give us the numbers for the rest of the year so we can compare markets more accurately, or are you just going to provide as little context as possible in the hopes that everyone accepts your reasoning unthinkingly?
Also, 3.5 billion dollars is a ton of money that's worth any publisher's attention, even if it isn't from the largest market out there.
@Cobalt But they're not the library. The Switch has some fantastic games unavailable on Wii U, but you keep making up reasons they don't count to support the hot-take narrative you've invented.
Splatoon 2: just Splatoon 1.5. Xenoblade 2: runs poorly. Super Mario Odyssey: you don't like it (which is an incredibly arrogant reason to give, suggesting everyone who loves it is simply wrong) Arms: you don't even give a reason, you just ignore it.
And stop with talking about deserving a reward from Nintendo. That's not how revenue-maximizing corporations work.
@Cobalt Bayonetta 2 is in my mind the finest action game ever developed. I've read, on more than one occasion, people claim the same status for Tropical Freeze among platformers. Captain Toad is just a pure joy to play. Nintendo also released them this year, and they make for outstanding additions to the library. Let's say it again so that maybe you'll begin to understand: Not everyone who buys a Switch owned a Wii U, so ports are new games for them. Not everyone who owned a Wii U bought every game, so ports are new games for them. And it would be an asinine business model for Nintendo to base its development around the thirty seven people who played every Wii U game instead of the millions, literally millions, of Switch owners who didn't.
@Cobalt You may never have written " if you like what I don't you're a moron", but the very first thing you wrote here was clearly meant to imply that a large number of games on the Switch are bad, and when there are people like me and many other people here who love a large number of games in the Switch library, you're implying we like bad games. There's far more subtext to comments than you realize, which means you're saying a lot more than you realize; you may not have used the word "moron", but it comes across to anyone who reads your (vast, vast number of) comments. That's why you get antagonistic responses; you're not some poor soul chosen at random.
@Stocksy "If we tailor our releases for the audience there instead of trying to shoehorn games for other audiences we'll make a lot of money" - informed 3rd party publishers.
@Cobalt Your ability to implicitly insult a large group of people is astounding. Let me ask you--am I the type of gamer who analyzes what he plays, or am I one of the mindless drones who just plays games unthinkingly?
@DragonbornRito It takes exactly zero mental gymnastics to see that Trump is a traitor. Trump is a fascist, and that isn't name-calling, it's identification of political identity.
Also, there is credible evidence that the NRA has laundered Russian money. That's one thing among many that aligns them with terrorists.
Also also you sure spent a lot of time typing about something that you claim isn't worth finger energy. It's almost as if the existence of your response belies its message...
@DragonbornRito Trump is a traitor and the NRA is a terrorist organization. And if you think me vitriolic for saying so, so be it; I don't feel like falling for the standard conservative trick of asking people to be silent in the name of decorum. After all, isn't speaking his mind one of the things Trumpkins love about him?
@AlexOlney I've seen plenty of articles that demonstrate that this site is in dire need of a copy editor, and the line that @djfuts quoted is, in fact, another one. Furthermore, your counter-trolling, while decently done, makes emendations to constructions that aren't grammatically incorrect. They may not be stylistically appropriate for a news article, but they're perfectly appropriate for Internet comments. Which you would know if NintendoLife would just hire a sodding copy editor.
@Wanjia Agreed. Since video games are inherently digital, there's no difference between physical and digital--it's all just code on a storage device. But half physical/half digital splits the code between two devices, and that's best avoided when possible.
@cfgk24 Kamiko, Pan-Pan, and the Dark Witch series immediately come to mind among games I've bought. The OPUS games are fantastic. VOEZ and Deemo are well regarded, though I've not played them. And those are just the games they've published in the west. If you include games that they publish in Japan their library is ridiculously good: SteamWorld Heist/Dig/Dig 2, Golf Story, Severed, Teslagrad, Rive, World of Goo, Gunman Clive, ...
I'll need more than just development footage before deciding whether to play or not, but it strikes me that one thing that was lost when FPSs overtook 3D platformers in popularity was inventiveness in game worlds. There's no reason for developers to limit themselves to mimicking the real world when the medium itself has no such limits.
@Cobalt No, I don't believe you'd commit arson. But with that attitude I do believe that if you had the power you'd prevent games you don't like from being produced. I'm thankful you lack the power.
@Cobalt If you dislike a genre and don't play it, fine. But hating a genre so much that you wish to destroy it, which implies you don't believe anyone else should play it either, is incredibly arrogant. You don't get to decide what I can play; I get to.
@Cobalt Let me guess...Bill says it's a port and that will allow you, who is obsessed with ports, to "prove" to everyone else that you're correct, another thing you're obsessed with.
@GrailUK Typing in a game's name is never exhausting, but it is quite difficult, impossible even, when you don't know what it is. Most people hear about games not at fan sites but when they visit the eShop, and when the eShop doesn't help discoverability, games aren't heard about.
You and I will hear all about every Nindie game. We're also 1% of 1% of their potential audience, which means we're not the ones they're trying to get the word out to.
@Cobalt Your obsession with whether or not a game appeared elsewhere first is mind-boggling. Can you explain to me how being an exclusive affects your experience of a game? Hint: you can't, because it doesn't. A good game is a good game, and brings value to every platform it appears on.
@Mortenb You sound like Trump saying there were very fine people on each side at Charlottesville. I don't have to treat transphobia like an opinion worthy of discussing seriously, because that's not what it is. It's hate, and deserves to be called such, not treated with civility in the name of reasonable discussion. Do you really not see the difference?

Re: Charming Single-Player Puzzle Game Red's Kingdom Hits Switch This Month
@Cobalt I need it on my Switch if I want proper controls and to use my 40" HDTV. Surely I should be allowed to do that, right?
Re: Charming Single-Player Puzzle Game Red's Kingdom Hits Switch This Month
@Cobalt So which is it--you shouldn't buy iOS games because they're bad, or you should buy iOS games because they're cheaper?
Seriously, you're arguing opposite points at the same time. Amazing.
